Sup Trac!! I'm glad 2 see u found your way over here. U have no idea how surprised i waz 2 hear from u last week. Hope 2 see ya around from time 2 time. I know u'll have 2 visit again when u pick up the new album.

One thing i think that is really cool about FP's (and JJ's) fanbase is that there are alot of guys and we are all from different ages and different places all over the world. When u go 2 other rappers' message boards, they tend 2 be mostly from the US or they tend 2 be between the ages of 13 and 18, or they tend 2 be almost all females. I think that shows that his/their music relates 2 us 4 real. While i don't really like Eminem or Jay-Z, i'll relate 2 a lil' bit of their stuff, but i don't feel any heart in their music. When i listen 2 FP's, i can releated 2 pretty much all of it and i can tell when he really put himself in2 a song. FP talks like i talk, he thinks like i think, he feels like i feel...know what i mean. There isn't 2 many other emcees/rappers out there who represent ME!! Can i get a witness?!? :shaketheroom:

Will Smith working with Kanye West?
JumpinJack AJ replied to Vipa's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I don't like Jay-Z much either...u are fooling yourself if u are tyring 2 put him and Fresh Prince in the same category. Jay-Z's subject matter is very limited...FP's isn't. Jay's only been commerically in the game for 10 years...FP is approaching 20. Jay insults his listeners...FP respects nearly everyone. Jay' acts like a Hip-Hop/Rap has no history while FP reminds us that it dose and that he helped pioneer it. -
I don't think anybody here waz mixing that up.
-
If FP and Eminem ever do battle...they should do it in the nude...Eminem would probably be laffed at so hard he wouldn't even have time 2 try and redeem himself with his lyrics.

That pic is actually HUGE and nearly lifesize. I have the magazine that featuring that picture. It came out sometime between 1997 and 1999.

Canibus' lyrics never really stuck me or my friends. In 1997/1998, we heard some of his stuff and it waz average 2 boring 4 us including "Second Round K.O." When we heard "The Ripper Stikes Back" nearly every other line left us laughing or reacting.

Jeff's aborted LP for Columbia Records---
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hypestyle's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
"When To Stand Up (Go To Hell)" waz the only track that leaked. There's a line in it that finishes off saying something when Jeff + Will were still friends (like they stopped). The song's pretty avearage tho'...the stuff on The Magnificent is far better than that track. Eminem waz just getting big when they recorded the track but it waz b4 all the gimmicks of The Marshall Mathers LP kicked in. Remember, Jeff came Eminem a break by putting "Bonnie & Clyde '97" on his "The Vibe I'm On" mixtape a year b4 he blew up. Jeff worked with FP, King Britt, and De La Soul for his album on Columbia but they were so focused on making it kinda like Big Willie Style that after a few months, their deal feel thru'. That's when he started all over, making what became The Magnificent. -
Who notes Eminem as the "best rapper lyracist today"?!?! :eek4: Magazines don't say that and Hip-Hop heads don't say that. I've only every heart white teenagers say that who know nothing about real Hip-Hop (making their opinion irrelevant 2 me). And nobody takes him seriously either. He abused his power 2 hold a mic by saying ignorant stuff. Nobody takes anything he says 2 heart cuz they know he spent much of his career just dissing people and trying 2 make people mad at him as a pathetic gimmick 4 sales. Fresh Prince waz smart 2 not answer 2 him since Eminem didn't really attack him. I think that if his lyrics were more offensive than mocking, then FP would have retalitated and shown alot of people what he's capable of...making Eminem look foolish. U are living in a dream world if u think Eminem is amoungst the best out of all the emcees out there, especially if u think people take him seriously.

Yeah, ever since his comeback in 1997, he's said that. But most people who have never heard him say that don't believe me when i tell them.

Jazzy Jeff's Starter commercials
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hypestyle's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I wore Starter gear back in the day...that brand used 2 be HUGE. I never did see the commercials but i do remember a hanging Starter display with Jazzy Jeff on it and asking 4 it...but never getting it. U can find Starter geat in Wal-Mart now. I got like 4 Starter shirts there last year and they still carry their stuff. -
Will, busta rhymes & dizzee rascal?
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hero1's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I've been waiting for a Fresh Prince / Busta Rhymes calbo for YEARS!! I think they'd be a great combination 4 a hyped up party track (kinda like L.L.'s + Busta's "Starsky + Hutch"...that track is insane!!). I waz a fan of Leaders of The New School back in the day so maybe Busta should right those wrongs between them and do a posse cut: JJ+FP + L.O.N.S. -
the Born to Reign LP-- reviews?
JumpinJack AJ replied to Hypestyle's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I think the album is definitly worth getting despite the way Will experimented leaving some of us wanting more. I think the stand-out trax are... Act Like You Know Block Party How Da Beat Goes Give Me Tonite -
I didn't watch this clip...but i know that thru' out it u can see me. I'm really bright...blue floppy fisherman hat, bright green shirt and bright orange shorts...haha. When JJ+FP went in 2 "Summertime," it waz literally a dream come true. The 1st few seconds left me totally speechless and in shock. Remember at this waz the summer of 2002 and this waz one of the 1st times they performed it since 1991. During the summer of 2002 and now as he's performing, they are always doing "Summertime" but this taping/performance waz their 1st time doing it in YEARS. "Summertime" had been my favorite song of all time by my favorite group of all time so 2 see them do it in the summer of 2002 waz totally a dream come true. After my initial reaction of going in2 shock...i just went wild. When i saw Musiq the other day, my girlfriend say "remember when we saw Will and u nearly started crying when they did "Summertime?"

I don't like Shyne at all. I just don't think he's any good as an artist and his wack rap on Usher's "Confessions Part III" remix ruined the song.
-
Yeah, he rocked the glasses....ha ha. He would take them off 2 dry his face off and often had his eyes closed (but who dryes off their face with their eyes open...ha ha). I thought he waz trying 2 cover up the lazy eye but near the end he took them off while talking 2 the audience. It's only lazy once in awhile...ha ha. Who cares about that tho'....he's a modern musical savior and while i've loved his music for years, i realized just how much i've been underestimating him. He's is one a nicest and down 2 earth guys in the industry. I can't say anything bad about Musiq and i hope this tour is successfull resulting in more sales for Soulstar. He did perform his best songs tho'...he didn't nearly every track on a compilation CD i did by him.
-
I think that if Jeff scraches on the track...he'll definitly be in the video. If he's not musically involved, i guess it'll depend on how the video is shot. Jeff scratched on "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" but he wazn't in the video. He waz on all the Willennium singles and waz in all the videos 2.
-
Since Will is no longer on Columbia and he seems much more serious about music now, i think it's safe 2 say no soundtrack songs will pop up on the album. Movie references should remain minimal in the music 2 me...i know what he's doing on the big screen and i could care less. When i hear the music, i wanna hear what's on his mind.
-
I think the lyrics 2 all his soundtrack songs are clever and witty. It's just hard 2 think of them that way since they are heavily tied 2 the movies he's done. I love the soundtrack songs when they are on the radio...but once i see them on his albums, i hate them.

Will Smith wants a London dig!
JumpinJack AJ replied to Da Brakes's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
Don't get 2 excited...this could be just like when Will and the family were definitly gonna live in Africa 4 a few years. Note 2 FP, if u wanna keep something a secret...don't share it with the press. -
What happened with Code Red?
JumpinJack AJ replied to DevilsJim89's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
he really just uses his voice like that becouse in I wanna rock he uses his normal voice.
I like the fact that FP switched up his flow a lil' bit on Code Red. Not ever song calls 4 the same flow. Imagin FP using his normal energetic voice and flow on "Just Kickin' It"...it just wouldn't make sense. -
I'm hoping VH-1 airs their Behind The Music special on him cuz the way he turned his life aroudn waz really impressive 2 me. 2 many young kids are runnin' around thinkin' they knew about Rick James from Dave Chappelle's skits and stuff...and that's embarrasing 2 me and i doubt Rick himself wants 2 bronzed in2 people's minds that way. Here's another article... Funk Music Star Rick James Dies LOS ANGELES (Aug. 6) - Funk legend Rick James, best known for the 1981 hit "Super Freak'' before his career collapsed in a cloud of violent drug charges, died Friday. He was 56. James died in his sleep at his residence near Universal City, apparently of natural causes, said his publicist, Sujata Murthy. James lived alone and was found dead by his personal assistant, who notified police, she said. The exact cause was not immediately known. "There'll be an autopsy and we'll find that out shortly,'' Murthy said. With long hair elaborately styled in braids or Jheri curls, James was one of the biggest R&B stars of the 1980s, composing danceable rhythms and passionate ballads that gained a wide following. Aside from "Super Freak'' - which MC Hammer used a decade later as the backing track for his rap smash "U Can't Touch This'' - James' hits included "Mary Jane,'' "Ebony Eyes'' and "Fire and Desire,'' a stirring duet with Teena Marie. "He was really fantastic, he was a creator,'' singer Little Richard told MSNBC. Toward the end of the '80s, James' fame began to fade as he became embroiled in drugs, legal problems and health troubles. In 1993 he was convicted in two separate cases of assaulting women. The first case occurred in 1991, when prosecutors said James and his girlfriend tied a woman to a chair, burned her with a hot crack pipe and forced her to perform sex acts during a cocaine binge at his West Hollywood home. James was free on bail when the second assault occurred in 1992 in James' hotel room. He served more than two years in Folsom Prison. In 1997 he released a new album, but a year later he suffered a stroke while performing at Denver's Mammoth Events Center, derailing a comeback tour. In 1998 he also underwent hip replacement surgery. James was not married and names of survivors were not immediately available, Murthy said. Funeral arrangements were being planned.

Man, 3Cookies just gave me the newz...here it is. Rest In Peace. Funk Legend Rick James Found Dead 08.06.2004 3:24 PM EDT Rick James (file) Photo: Kevin Winter Funk legend Rick James was found dead at his home in Hollywood by his live-in housekeeper on Friday, according to an officer and spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. The LAPD was notified of James' passing at 9:45 a.m. PT. James' physician signed off on his death certificate, explaining that he passed away from an existing medical condition. James suffered a stroke in 1998 after a blood vessel broke in the back of his neck during a performance in Denver. Best known for his 1980s hits "Super Freak" and "Give It to Me Baby," James, who hadn't released a studio album since 1997's Urban Rhapsody, experienced a surge in popularity this year when Dave Chappelle impersonated him on his "Chappelle's Show." James' phrases like "It's a celebration" and "I'm Rick James, bitch!" were reintroduced into pop culture through the show. "I've always been able to laugh at myself, the character Rick James," James told MTV News in May. "I created it, that extroverted part of James Johnson. I was able to laugh at myself 'cause that's what it's meant for, it's meant to have fun with" (see "Dave Chappelle: The Reason Grandmas Know Who Lil Jon Is"). James was born James Johnson Jr. on February 1, 1948 in Buffalo, New York. His hugely successful 1981 album, Street Songs, went triple platinum and solidified his position at the forefront of the funk genre. He joined the Navy at 15 and fled to Canada shortly after, founding his first group in Toronto, the Mynah Birds, which included members Neil Young, Bruce Palmer (who later formed Buffalo Springfield) and Goldie McJohn (who later joined Steppenwolf). The group signed to Motown in the mid-1960s and recorded a few tracks, though none were ever released. In the early 1980s, James began working with the Temptations, who had recently returned to the Motown label. James toured earlier this year with Teena Marie, and had hoped to hit the road for his own tour early next year. He was also working on an autobiography. The singer spoke with MTV News in May, and seemed at ease with his larger-than-life reputation. "I'm just now in control of the persona," James said. "I don't have to go out to clubs every night, and I don't have to have 10 women in my bed when I wake up. There's a lot of things I don't have to do anymore because it's passe, you know? It's redundant. I'm just concentrating on my kids, and I'm just working more towards the future and Rick James happiness within himself." "I'm in a great new part of my life," James added. "I got a great new album coming out, I'm on tour and I'm happy. Me and Teena are back together; that may end tomorrow but right now it's fine." —MTV News staff report

I saw Musiq live last nite. It waz great...here's how the nite went (4 those who care)... Me and my girlfriend got in line an hour b4 the doors opened. We were like the 5th people in line. About a half hour later the line waz wrapping around the corner and i thought 2 myself "gee....i think me and my girlfriend are the only white people here." We finally get 2 go in as the check IDs (not checking 4 cameras or bootleging devices...i'll keep that in mind 4 future shows at this place). We had 2 walk thru' the bar/grill area 2 get 2 the stage where waz weird. Me and the 1st few people in line got lost as we 1st almost went in2 the VIP section...then later 2 the kitchen. We just kinda laffed and kept looking around and were finally directed thru' the backdoor. After handing the tickets and being taken out the backdoor, i had the strange feeling i waz being ripped off...but that wazn't the case. We go inside the "theater" and it's a medium sized standing room/stage/bar and we were right next 2 the stage. A local DJ named Sparkles (who waz pretty cute) waz spinning (and occaisionally showing off). Poet Black Ice, who is the 1st poet signed 2 Def Jam and the 1st poet givin a Hip-Hop Quotable in The Source, waz the host 4 the nite. He brought out a group called The Collective feat. Chynah Blac which is kinda like a soul meets aggressive rock kinda group. They were preetty good. Chynah Blac herself can whale on the mic. The band waz dope 2. Then Black Ice came back and recited some stuff which waz real good. As i waz watching, Will's grandmother's point waz totally proven. In 2 of his peices, he waz reciting some powerful stuff but the cussing laced thru' out it just didn't make him sound as smart as this cat actually waz. Still dope tho'. In between all this, DJ Sparkles waz spinning and 1st this white girl and asian girl came out in these K-Mart rack dresses with looks that matched them. They danced 2 like 2 songs and they just kinda sucked. It waz like "why are they doing this." It just didn't make any sense and their dancing didn't fit the music at all. I know alot of professionaly trained girls that dance and even if i didnt know them, i would have known that these girl were just jokes. The 2nd set came out after The Collective and it waz 2 black girls who were 100 times better. The one waz actually insanely fine and really really good. I don't know what her motivation waz...but she danced right in front of me the whole time. If left me tempted 2 say 2 my girlfriend "i think we should see other people" JUST PLAYIN.' After that they had some people hand out posters and t-shirts (i made my girlfriend get a poster). Then the time had come. Musiq's band came out (a keyboard, bass player, guitar player, drummer, DJ, and 2 HUGE background singers. The got everyone hyped...the soul music's littlest man comes running out. The crowd went wild as he went in2 "Soulstar." Musiq had on a red Phillies hat cocked up and 2 the side, trademark shades, a blue Phillies jersey, white kicks and the coolest jeans i'd ever seen. The jeans were crazy with beltloops and tags down by the ankle, a back pocket on the front, pokets upside down on the bag legs. They looked like the biggest malfunction a jean-making machine ever had (i gotta find a pair of these). He later shed the jersey and went on with just a white shirt...later getting rid of that 4 a red wife beater. He performed all the essentials...Halfcrazy, Dontchange, Previouscats, Marygoround, Love, whoknows and finished up with Justfriends (Sunny) and Forthenight. Here performed ALOT more than that...but it waz basically all his singles/videos and the best non-single trax off his albums. It waz just a good time. No crazy light efx, no background dancers...just good R-N-B/Soul music and a tight vibe. Since the crowd waz 21 and up, there waz just a good positive vibe going on the whole nite. During one of the songs, there waz a few dramatic music bits where Musiq waz doing all these crazy poses which waz hilarious. He talked 2 the crowd a decent bit, did some goofy dances, and gave all the ladies love by reaching out 2 them when they reached 4 him. He didn't take any breaks by letting the band just play or anything...he pushed on singing, sweating, (at one point it actually dripped on me...ha ha) and just rockin' a great show. I knew Musiq waz a talented guy, but seeing him live is believing the hype. He can hit these insane high notes and knows how 2 show the crowd a good time. I got everything i expected and more. It's kinda crazy that he just started touring with this album (it waz his 1st show 4 his latest album) since it came out in December. But with this touring, it'll boost his album sales at least a lil' bit.

AJ is just my nickname from my 1st and middle name. "JumpinJack" is just fun 2 say. When i waz really little, i used 2 dance around and i always called it doing jumping jacks. My family would always make fun of my and correct me. When i finally got my own personal access 2 the internet in my late teens i just used it as my screenname stemming from my using it as an artist name when i'd write and rap alot. There are/were 2 many TV and radio personalities with the name AJ so i had 2 tack something on the front.
