1.
Hey AJ it was shocking that "3D" only sold a million copies but to say that they're underrated would be like saying Boyz II Men is underrated they're the highest selling groups of all time, they sold more records than JJFP, they're not underrated! You can't mention BBD without mentioning Guy who actually came out before BBD with that new jack swing hip-hop style in r&b, that's not a diss to BBD 'cause I love them too, but Guy never really got their props record sales wise, they could eat groups like B2K alive now! Craig Mack seemed to be another one of those mcs that helped made P.Diddy rich but then got ****ted on by him, Black Rob, Shyne, and G Dep are also prime examples of this, they would all ghost write rhymes for P.Diddy too, P. Diddy is just an ass kisser who can't do anything for himself. And yes it seems that people have forgotten about Q-Tip and A Tribe Called Quest, G Unit will never have anything on them and Q-Tip could beat 50 Cent in a freestyle battle 'cause he's an incredible lyricist, I would pay to see that battle! :switch:
I would still say TLC is underrated. Sure, they had all that success, but since the last album waz ignored, they were definitly done wrong. They deserved so much more respect then they got last time around. Guy is another good choice. Dope group!! However, even tho' their last album didn't meet expectations, it waz really good. I listen 2 it about once a year. I think Guy and BBD are very different tho'. They both masterminded mixing Hip-Hop and R-N-B in a fly way. Without what they did, alot of other groups wouldn't be around or sounding the way they do. Craig Mack actually desided 2 leave Bad Boy on his own. He just said they were nothing like what they used 2 be when they 1st started out, so he left. He's one of the only artists who stayed true 2 himself while on Bad Boy. Q-Tip tho'...i dont' know how i would have felt about that jazz album, but i still really wanted 2 hear it. I understand why Tribe isnt' talked about tho'...since they retired. I'm just happy 2 hear they are coming back 2 show people what real Hip-Hop music is.
2. Shanice - I Love Your Smile I waz listening 2 a late nite old skool mixshow on my way home and they played Shanice's "I Love Your Smile." I lost my freakin' mind!! That waz one of my favorite songs in 1991!! It went in2 some Soul II Soul after that. About Dru Hill's "In My Bed"...during the summer of 1997, they released the So So Def Remix and video which featured Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat. It waz just as huge as the original from months b4!! U can find it on the EP "So So Def: This Is The Remix" or the single.
3. Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't mind if FP did some guest spots on people's albums...it just depends on with who and what kinda song is waz. I don't like the idea of him working with half of the people on Willennium (Lil' Kim 4 example)...but with people like Biz Markie, Slick Rick, and MC Lyte, i think that would be right up his ally. I don't know how i feel about newer artists tho'...most of them simply aren't good and i don't think he needs 2 tarnish his image by working with them (Ludacris...Petey Pablo...WHY?!?!?). I wouldn't even want him working with Kanye West...at least not side by side on the mic, production would be okay. Kanye is definitly outshining most of the new cats cuz he dose have skillz but i also think he's a lil' overrated. I don't see 2 many people fitting 2 the kinda artist that deserves 2 work with him. I'd love 2 hear old skool collabos. Back when u had JJ+FP, Whodini, Run-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa, Heavy D + The Boyz, Eric B. + Rakim, MC Lyte, LL Cool J, EPMD, MC Hammer, Queen Latifah, Young MC, Public Enemy, Doug E. Fresh, and Digital Underground as Hip-Hop's main playas. All of those artists are dope and i wish collaborations were more popular back then cuz they would have been great. These days, the people on the top of the rap charts simply can't touch that late 80's and early 90's era. They make music that is average to bad and their lack of talent is only half the reason. If i waz a successful artist, i wouldn't have much inspiration 2 work with anyone cuz nobody has talent or originality these days.
4. Yeah, i wonder if SoulShock + Karlin actually used that sample becuz of Gang Starr's hit with "U Know My Steez" or if it waz just coincidence. "U Know My Steez" came out in late-fall/early winter...JJ+FP "Greatest Hits" came out in May.
5. If the next album is a big hit, it could happen. Think about it, Jive probably would have never dropped the JJ+FP Greatest Hits album if Big Willie Style hadn't done so well. If the next album is huge and they recieve a few of those letters, it could happen. Shortly after BWS came out, Jive pumped out alot of the old JJ+FP albums 4 the new skool fans and they were in alot of stores.
6. The thing is, not all of us have the same style. So it'll be hard 2 please everyone...especially picky people like myself. On top of that, not 2 many girls like 2 dress like guys these days...females' shirts are fitted so we gotta consider that as well.
7. The last year i've been a HUGE fan of Talib Kweli even tho' i started listening 2 him in 1998. I'm hopin' 2 get this new album 2morrow.
8. The Fresh Prince won't just collaborate with anyone which i think is very cool. Look at Ludacris and Ja-Rule...even if they had real talent, they work with so many people, i'd label them as cameo whores. By the time their albums come out, u are already sick of them cuz they work with all the other commerical artists and they get on every soundtrack they can. I think all that is good exposer...but there IS such thing as OVERKILL.
9. Not bad. I don't like website shirts tho.' I almost never wear long-sleeves either. That's just me tho.' I want that Code Red JJ+FP logo on it really bad.
10. That's not a bad idea...i waz always hoping we'd see a remastered box set. I'll definitly send a request if everyone else agrees 2 do it as well. It's also a great oppertunity 2 request a Greatest Hits DVD featuring the stuff the VHS never did.
11.
i think the song is funny rap is supposed to be about relaxing, having fun and just in em's own words losing it so it is a good song in that regard
U don't relax 2 a song like that...u relax 2 a song like "Just Cruisin'." Either way, it dosen't make the song good...they really scrapped the bottom of the toilet 2 find that beat and those lyrics.
12. E-40 definitly is overlooked. He's made alot of good songs over the years tho' i don't like all of them. Not 2 much of his slang has gone past his own albums tho'...he has like 9 words for any word...at 1st it waz cool....not it makes u wonder if he just doesn't know how 2 come up with rhymes.
13. TLC - Man, these girls accomplished so much for Hip-Hop, R-N-B, and females in general. They tackled struggle after struggle and still came out on top. However, after the loss of Left Eye, millions of fans turned their back on them. Their album 3D only sold just over a million copies. That's messed up. Another case of sell-out fans and self-centered record labels. Q-Tip - After being the main attraction to A Tribe Called Quest, then dropping 2 huge solo singles and one of the better albums of the late 90's...his label wouldn't support his 2nd solo album becuz it waz heavily jazzed up and not 2 much like his 1st. Craig Mack - one of the better emcees 2 rise 2 fame in the 90's. However, it seemed like the flashy, jiggy, less talented rappers kept their fame while he kinda faded away. Bell Biv DeVoe - They started a revolution of mixing Hip-Hop with R-N-B (rapping over R-N-B beats, and singing over Hip-Hop beats, and so on). These days it's a common thing, but these guys really put it on the map (and did it the right way). When they came back in 2001, i waz mad 2 see them ignored.
14. I waz highly upset (from what i saw). It waz literally like 10 second interview bits that were supposed 2 be funny but they just sucked. I waz taping it in the other room and so i could fast forward and watch it all later but the tape apparently ran outta room. Either way, i'm sure i didn't miss much.
15. If this is true, i wouldn't call it good newz or bad newz. However, Interscope hasn't had any big players since the mid-90's. They've turned in2 a label that only distributes smaller labels. Nothing special about Interscope at all. If they just distribute Overbrook, and FP stays as an Overbrook artist, that would be cool.
16. Welcome 2 the board!! As a new member, we'll 4give u for asking about the new single. "Switch" is the planned new single from his album slated 2 drop in January. "Got To Be Real" is the new song he did with Mary J. Blige on the Shark Tale soundtrack.
17. I think the site would be mentioned on the shirt...but i think it should take a backseat 2 JJ+FP. If i wore a JJ+FP shirt, i would wear it cuz it would be a fly JJ+FP shirt...i don't wanna be a walking advertisment 4 the site...know what i mean. I definitly think the shirt would look best in black. The Code Red JJ+FP logo would look great huge on the back or small on the front or sleeve(s). If there were an actual picture of them on it, i think it should be really modern but not 2 candid. The only problem is, there hasn't been any studio pictures of them taking since 1993/1994.
18. Yeah, Heavy D + The Boyz' "The Lover's Got What You Need" is the 1st song that comes 2 mind when i think of that sample. The beat is definitly much better than "Freakin' It." I can't think of any songs off the top of my head that use it, but i know i've heard it (or various versions of it) over and over again. The only song i can think of that is sampled more would be "Lovely Day."
19. Definitly. People post all the news articles in the forums above anyway. These days i struggle 2 find time 2 visit the board and with so many different forums, i think a few of them could be combinded. I only visit 4 of them on a regular basis so i think it would be more organized 2 combine some of them and it'll also save the time of those who got lives 2 live. I think it would make sense 2 combine the audio forums as well.
20. I waz hoping so. I don't VHS's are gonna fade for quite sometime tho.' DVD is taking over but i think VHS will still be relevant 4 awhile. Anybody still have Beta?
