  2. I took a minute to process the incident and the night in general before posting on here, it hit home for personal reasons, that I’ll explain, and it also took me a while to try and understand what developed and why. After deliberation, obviously violence is never the answer. It’s inexcusable, but, it’s also understandable based on what has been revealed to us in recent months and years. I saw a broken man, at his breaking point, that’s lived pretty much flawlessly over nearly four decades in the public eye. After reading WILL, it opened my eyes to that lack of acceptance Will has always had, and his strive to ‘put right’ what he got wrong as a kid. Namely, his inaction when his father would abuse his mother, both physically and mentally. I believe this played a part in the spur of the moment decision to act when he felt his wife was attacked. Another thing that came to mind is his obsession to not fail, think back to when Sheree divorced Will, and he refused because ‘I don’t get divorced’. He was willing to stay in a marriage he wasn’t happy in because of his commitment to the decision he made. Fast forward to the ‘Entanglement’ and we have a carbon copy of the fight to save his marriage, that got turned into memes and internet trends, namely of Will crying when emotional speaking of his wife’s affair with someone he’d brought into his home to help. I also believe Will becomes so engrossed in roles that he wants to embody what Richard Williams stands for in terms of defence towards his wife and children, and with them all being women, it’s overlapped into Wills personal life. Not just with Jada and his kids, but with the cast and crew of the movie, also. Now, you’re Will Smith, you’ve made the decision to stand by your wife and forgive her sleeping with another man, almost having the acceptance because she was facing her own demons. I do have my opinion on Jada and what damage she may be causing to Will, but in this instance, you have to take it at face value that he chose to forgive and move on, so we should to. You get to a point when Jada opens up about her autoimmune disease that results in Alopecia, and in her darkest moments dealing with her hair loss, she had suicidal thoughts and intentions, but managed to pluck up the courage to eventually embrace the situation and use it as fuel to encourage other sufferers of the disease. It’s important to remember that it goes much further than just simple vanity. As a husband myself, and being married to a woman that suffers with mental health, namely Agoraphobia, I’ve witnessed the lows that nobody else sees, I’ve witnessed the brave face that everybody else thinks is natural, and I’ve also seen the small innocuous comments, that the majority would brush off, bring her entire world crashing down faster than what seems imaginable. But it happens. Now, put yourself in the shoes of Will, sweeping the awards season, a favourite to achieve his first Oscar, an award he’s been openly chasing for two decades since his first nomination. You’re on top of the world, embracing the moment. This is the best your career could ever be, the pinnacle. Someone then makes a joke in poor taste, about the women you love, on what’s supposed to be the biggest night of your career, and you glance over to your wife and she isn’t impressed. I believe Will unlocked some inner demons he’d buried writing WILL, I believe he’s reeling from being humiliated about the ‘Entanglement’, I believe he’s bitten his tongue on many occasion when the names of his wife and children got dragged through the dirt in front of millions. In that moment, I believe Will thought, it doesn’t matter what I do in my career, I’ll always be that scared little boy that didn’t stop his Mother from getting beat. And he said, no more. As a side note, it’s important to understand what triggers are when it comes to mental health, and what you’re husband may know will be damaging to you, even though it seemed an innocent off the cuff comment. I’m sure Chris Rock was unaware, and Will could have handled in a more calm and well matured manner than resorting to violence, especially as it’s completely overshadowed what was a richly deserved and overdue Oscar victory for what was a phenomenal performance. I congratulate Will on his Oscar win, and I really hope if he is struggling with his life and is overwhelmed by what’s being asked of him, or what he feels is being asked of him, that he seeks the help to recover and get back to being himself. It was difficult to watch someone I’ve admired for so long hit rock bottom on the same night he reached his highest point, but it was also a stark reminder that we expect superhuman actions out of people who are just as human as the people they entertain. Sorry it dragged on LOL

  3. Wills Instagram post is great. Using comedy to test the water. Glad to see 99% positive comments, fans telling him they love him and come back. Great to see. Hopefully he feels comfortable easing back into the public eye now.

  4. Honestly, as much as i hate the situation, the memes are pretty funny. But yeah, the media need to take it easy now, they are interviewing every celebrity about it to try and get another headline. I'm disappointed in some celebrity takes on it. Amy schumer said it was really upsetting to see Will slap Chris Rock, then ive seen another story saying one of her jokes about the Alec Baldwin shooting accident wasn't allowed. Why does she think a joke about someone getting killed can be ok? Anyway, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Will made a mistake, we all make mistakes, let it go.

  5. I agree with a lot of opinions here. I don't think Will is doing good mentally. It was like a bi-polar moment for him. He's seen laughing at the joke to then slapping Chris and shouting at him. Next he gets the win and then cries and says something that he's a "vessel of love" and "love makes you do crazy things". Dude - you just slapped the host of the show because Jada wasn't having it. Listen, I get defending your wife but that was such an instant response to Jada. It was uncalled for. The joke wasn't even that bad. It's comedy. So now if we go to comedy shows and don't like a joke we can slap the comedian? It's bizarre. I get that it's an isolated incident but I think it was trigger by some deep wounds and toxicity in his life. He needs some help and healing. I haven't read the book but it seems like their are some deep rooted issues. We're obviously all people on the outside watching but part of me thinks their marriage has run it's course. He was humiliated on the RTT with Jada where she justified her actions in front of the world to make a private matter turn into public display of marriage therapy in which she profited off of it. She had an affair with their son's friend. That's crazy. So because the traditional definition of marriage doesn't apply to their "open marriage" makes what she did okay? And now they're going to have another episode that they're going to profit from from all the views. I could do without the pomp and circumstance. Honestly, I'm just turned off by Will and have been for a few years now. Maybe at his core he's still the guy we all grew up loving from JJFP, FPOBA to the early 2000s but he doesn't have the same appeal to me. He's a business and a brand and the one thing I want from him - he doesn't sell anymore - which is music. I'm not into Will Smith the character, the box office star and hollywood elite. He's just not relatable. I feel the same way about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson too. I dont care and never cared about: his movies his marriage and how open it is his kids his snapchat his instagram his book (well maybe some parts of it) bel-air reboot hollywood life his politics his youtube channel his motivation advice his workout routine selling me products (bel-air merch, JUST water...etc) ...etc Anything with music - count me in.

Yeah, I want new music to be a tightly contained project. I'm not saying his family isn't musically talented. Obviously they are, but I have no desire to hear them on a new album.

  13. I think the reason for this is that Will's actions are directly related to the Oscars. They want to save face. The dealings of those other people, while vile and long term, aren't directly related to the Oscars. No one is associating their behavior with the Oscars like they are Will's. That's just my guess at reasoning.

  14. He's definitely got some great content, it would also be a great way for him to vent. Everyone is talking about him right now (MIB was playing in my local supermarket) so i think people would be more interested in what he has to say right now. Its the whole, no publicity is bad publicity thing. It would be great for him to spend time with Jeff, JL and Charlie etc. From the book, those guys seem to of always been such a positive impact on his life. He was like his old self when he did that zoom thing with them in lockdown.

  15. Jim, I get everything you are saying and I think a lot of people feel the same way. I think it is worth getting the audiobook of Will though - the first 10 chapters are all about the formation and success of JJFP and a lot of stuff we never knew about - I think as a music fan you would really enjoy that section of the book at least. Behind the scenes of summertime - the making of And in this corner etc, the return with Men In Black.

  25. I’m glad he did this on his own Instagram on his own terms. Apologetic and not acting like a victim. He looks hurt but I actually expected him to be worse to be honest. Sounds like he’s trying to heal. The internet seem to of mostly taken it well, still the odd person overreacting but hopefully he can move on now and start getting his career back.

  26. https://blackamericaweb.com/2022/04/14/sony-bad-boys-film-believed-not-successful-black-lead-actors/?fbclid=IwAR3Rf9apgjkmCycUMColWcEuX74iHbNmK3OWeEWAZqR-21Fgbmj8QQlpv3c ‘Bad Boys’ Director Says Sony “Had No Faith” In The Film’s Success With Two Black Stars Keenan "HIGz" Higgins Even though Will Smith is going through a career crisis of sorts for infamously slapping fellow veteran actor Chris Rock at this year’s Academy Awards, there’s no denying his existing roster of hit leading roles in Hollywood. For many, the standout of those is his third-ever feature film, Bad Boys, which co-stars comedic legend Martin Lawrence. Over 25 years and two successful sequels later, with a fourth currently in pre-production, director Michael Bay says the $840 million franchise’s longtime distributor Sony Pictures originally didn’t think it would even be a success with two Black actors in the lead roles. While promoting his new film Ambulance, Bay spoke to Entertainment Weekly briefly about his directorial debut with Bad Boys. He was asked about his now-signature “hero shot” that dramatically circles the characters at a prominent climax in the movie. Bay said Bad Boys is where it started, and the inspiration was fueled by Sony’s doubt and disrespect for them during principal photography. “Sony didn’t believe in the movie, because two Black actors don’t sell overseas,” he said of their apprehensions, going to add, “And they shut me down, literally. They shut the power off. That’s how rude they were on this movie.” Take a look below at how one shot and a determination to prove Sony wrong led Michael Bay to success with Bad Boys and one of the most imitated cinematic scenes in action film history, via EW: “So I remember we’re driving our van. The line producer, he didn’t like me. I don’t think he liked anybody. I said, ‘Stop the car! Stop the van.’ And he’s coming up to me, the line producer, saying, ‘What are you doing, Michael? We don’t have time for this.’ I’m like, ‘This is going to be the trailer shot.’ For some reason, I just came up with this shot as we’re driving. And I said, ‘Where’s the circle trolley? Get the circle trolley.’ And we made this round move and you guys rise up and it became a very famous shot. People try to imitate it, but it was a seminal moment. ‘Bad Boys’ literally changed the game on Black actors. It’s the first movie that really traveled overseas.” As we now know, Bad Boys would go on to make $141.4 million at the box office on a $19 million budget and solidify both Smith and Lawrence as certified Black leading males in Hollywood. We bet Sony is glad they didn’t go with their initial bias!

  31. Yeah, do something that's fun. Something that we'll want to watch over and over again. Don't get me wrong, I love Ali and King Richard, but I watch them ever couple years. Movies like Bad Boys, Hitch, Men In Black, Enemy of the State, ID4, etc....I can watch them frequently. On another note, it would be kinda gangsta to put out a movie or two during this time that would result in him being nominated even if he can't be there. At the same, would will he have a prejudice against him for being nominated or winning because of all this?

  32. Yoooo, this article is actually quite sad. It's the opinion of comedian Earthquake. It makes you think. I don't recall any actions from Jada in the past decade that I'd translate to real love and affection. If anyone should be mad at Will, it should be comedians, but Earthquake is showing nothing but love for Will and seems to be talking a lot of sense. https://blacksportsonline.com/2022/04/comedian-earthquake-says-jada-pinkett-doesnt-love-will-smith-has-done-nothing-to-protect-him-and-only-embarrasses-him/?fbclid=IwAR3fDXDP3OddOZCZeTC79U6LVzkuR10ownKglihxc8JNAXC8gu1PbKzrEf8 BSO ENTERTAINMENT Comedian Earthquake Says Jada Pinkett Doesn’t Love Will Smith, Has Done Nothing To Protect Him And Only Embarrasses Him By Samuel-Clement Comedian Earthquake has also shared his two cents on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars and according to him, Will Smith loves Jada but she, on the other hand, doesn’t love him. That’s sad! Earthquake says Jada Pinkett should have stopped Will Smith from walking up the stage to slap Chris Rock for joking about a woman who doesn’t love him as he does via Yahoo Entertainment; Can you find any? 36. I'm still trying to process this whole thing. If a week ago someone would of said this has happened, i wouldn't believe it. I think my main concern is Wills mental health. He's a celebrity so none of us here truly know him. But most of us here have followed him for 20+ years, we've listened to his music which is his soul and read his book which he spoke so much truth. I feel like i know him well enough to know this isn't him. This is Kanye West type ****. Its especially not him to do this on the most public stage in the world. I want to know what lead him to react like that, is there something we don't know. I'm not saying theres any conspiracy here, it just has to be more than defending his wife from a joke. I didn't really know what it meant to be a part of the academy. Turns out its like Visqo said, he just can't vote etc. He can still technically win oscars, however i don't think he will win anymore (he may even have his current one removed). I don't think this is career ending, but i think its career damaging. The other guys that got removed from the academy where sex offenders, Will slapped someone. Theres a big difference there! Theres people on social media that are very loud to criticise but most people i know in real life love Will. I think the fact that hes so well loved and that this is his first major mistake in his 30 year career means he can recover from this. I'm sure its gonna take time. Most peoples take on this is to get a funny meme or a tiktok out of it. I don't think many people are truly offended by what he did, just shocked as its out of character. I don't want him to do the red table talk, that show has damaged his reputation already. He needs to stay quiet a bit, reflect on why he did this and slowly build his career back.

  37. I'm excited they have 40 pages of the script done - which probably leaves about 20 to go. I'm just not sure we need a Bad Boys 4 tho? - I think Bad Boys 4 life kind of wrapped up the series for me - I'd rather it end on a high.

  38. I've kinda given up hope on music at this point. I'm sick of the half-ass attempts over the last few years with these weirdo songs. He does a song with DJ Khaled a few years ago and it's for the kids? I mean c'mon. Get Lit was another weird song. The best thing he did was that freestyle video on Youtube but of course that was like 1-2 minutes long and never released as a song. Oh and that Joyner remix that he jumped on. Will has such a team around him when it comes to video production and getting quick ad money off of Youtube clicks that I wish the same energy was there for music. I agree with AJ - nobody wants to hear new Will Smith with modern music production. If he's gonna return to music - he's gotta actually write and rap bars. Don't do it for record sales or awards - rap because it's who you really are (as opposed to being an actor and pretending to be a character) and you have plenty to say.

  39. Maybe I’m naive, but that looks to me like Jada didn’t think it was serious at first either.

  40. I think Will needs to get help. And I don't think going public (Whether it's Red Table Talk or some other media outlet) is the answer. I think he needs to work on himself and get help privately. I don't think he's in the right state of mind to be going in front of cameras right now.

  41. The Academy just released a statement: The fact that Will was asked to leave and refused is very bad. I have a feeling he is going to be expelled from the Academy and this could signal the end of Will's movie career. How many people in Hollywood would want to work with him now?

  42. Jada using Will's mental breakdown for some views on her red table talk I find extremely unsavoury. Wasn't the entanglement episode of that enough humiliation for Will? And now she is going to do it again with more of her psycho-babble? Not happy about this at all. Will get away from that toxicity and get back to being yourself.

  44. Firstly, hi everyone, sad we couldn't be meeting under better circumstances. I've been unsure what to think of this all day and I've been looking at everyone's opinions. Firstly i was really dissapointed for me to wake up at 6am and look at my phone to see if he'd won his first Oscar and it took me 5 mins to find out because it was so overshadowed with what he did. When i first saw the clip i didn't actually get Chris Rocks joke because im not familiar with GI Jane. As much as dislike Jada at the moment, that joke was uncalled for. I've certainly heard worse but we don't know what shes been through and if Will has seen her really upset with the struggle with her hair. Will should not of slapped Chris though, especially live on television at the biggest award show in the world. These days you can get cancelled for that kind of crap, i'm surprised its actually 50/50 on peoples thoughts on him. The main thing i feel about this, i'm worried for Will. It mostly started seeing him in tears on the red table talk when they spoke about entanglement, that had to be hard. The public humiliation hes had since must be rough, especially when hes spent his career being so loved. Then he clearly had issues when i read his book, it just goes to show peoples lives aren't as perfect as they look. I think this was the straw that broke the camels back and i really hope he isnt stripped of his oscar over this. And i hope he gets help for his mental health, this reminds me of Britney shaving her head kind of moment. Its out of character for him to break his "Mr Fluffy" persona so publicly. Anyway, congratulations to him i suppose, King Richard was a great film.

  45. Well, if nothing else, it’s brought us all back together again! I remember when I first joined the board over 20 years ago, Ali was being released. On the old Sony willsmith.net BBS there was a lot of hype amongst the Willennium-era fans that the role could land Will Smith his first Oscar. Of course it wasn’t to be, and nor were various future film roles that seemed sometimes almost deliberately chosen by WS to try and achieve his desired yet elusive Oscar success. In the end I (and probably most of you) got a bit bored of that endless pursuit. The irony, then, is that something that WS has worked fairly relentlessly for over 20 years or more to obtain - and which he should now be able to consider one of the greatest achievements of his life - will now forever be tainted in his mind and ours by the Chris Rock debacle. And he had his mother and other friends/family watching the whole spectacle from home as he came to pieces before them in the most public of environments. I don’t entirely know what I feel about the incident - I don’t necessarily disrespect it, but it’s confusing to process, which leads me to wonder if there’s not some sort of recent undercurrent between the two that we are unaware of. What is clear though are the following points. Chris was completely wrong to make these insensitive remarks about WS’s wife and her health, and he should never have made them before the world on that stage. WS’s temper flashed and I’ll bet he didn’t entirely know what he’d done until after he did it. Perhaps his ability to handle such situations is changing with age. He is entirely right to stand up for her, but he is entirely wrong to do it in the manner that he did. I’m sad for him because what should have been one of the true high points of his career will now forever be connected to an ugly low. He will have to live with that. It’s one thing to defend your family, but he should left the public swinging behind in the Ali days, 20 years ago. And Jaden’s “And that’s how we do it” Twitter remark isn’t exactly a good look for the family either.
