Anybody pull an April fool's joke today?
JumpinJack AJ replied to Jazzy Julie's topic in Caught in the Middle
Call in a few bomb threats....pull a few fire alarms...u know, the usual. Ha ha...jus' playin.' I work all day and we are gonna be crazy busy so i doubt i'll do anything elaborate. Whatever comes off the top of my head. Wasn't like 2 years ago when Jim posted a fake article about FP saying that from then on, his albums would be JJ+FP albums and that they were gonna released thru' ATOJ? Man, that made a few of us mad...ha ha. -
Thanx...this song is dope. It's definitly from the Aftermath era...but i doubt it's Dr. Dre who produced it. Unless he really stretched himself on this one. It just doesn't have that Dre sound.

Ace of Spades...don't be stupid. 2Pac is gone...Rest In Peace. Back on topic. When i said it's 2006, not 1996. I waz refuring 2 the changes. Back in 1996, Snoop waz on Deathrow and gangsta rap waz huge. On top of that, he waz releasing his 2nd album and had that murder case. Snoop waz still a freshman in the rap game. So if this happened 10 years ago, i'd understand. It's 2006. Snoop has cleaned up his life. Most of his music isn't as menacing anymore (example...singles like "Beautiful.") He's now viewed as a long-time entertainer. He's been doing his thing for over a decade. I just think it's stupid the way they are handling it.

PUBLIC ENEMY - Can't Truss It (Almighty Raw 125th Street Bootleg Mix) CD Single / Apocalypse '91, The Enemy Strikes Black (1991)

I just got some disturbing news 2day. One of the people who works for my company...but at another store, got a call from her mother 2day, saying she found her (my kinda co-worker's) husband slumped over dead in his car. They are thinking it may be related 2 a drug overdose. Details are schetchy, but i can't imagin what she's going thru.' So i definitly wanna gather some prayer shoulders 2 give understanding and comfort 2 the family.

KRS-ONE and Marley Marl Record Album Together
JumpinJack AJ replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
Wow, this is gonna be good!! But the whole point of the album is really silly. "Kids" aren't gonna know they are. Either way, this is definitly a project worth checking out. We got the best of both worlds from the old school on the same record. That's amazing. I wish MC Shan would jump on a track. -
PUBLIC ENEMY + PARIS - REBIRTH OF A NATION
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Caught in the Middle
I'm not keeping score...bottom line, it's just not PE. Which is disappointing 2 me. And i'm actually fine with Prof. Griff not being that involved. He just never stood out 2 me. I'm missing so many PE albums tho' that i should just suck it up and pick up the ones i've missed. -
It looks okay 2 me. By the trailor, it could go either way. I like that he's supporting a Hollywood sized hood flick tho.' I doubt he would back a movie that waz really bad. It's gonna be hard 2 stomach seeing T.I. in it tho.' I don't know if i'll see it in theaters or not...but that would be some money in FP's pocket...so i probably will.
-
Dr. Dre is also a sell out tho.' I like alot of his music...but he's phoney. U don't go around for 2 years saying gangsta rap is wack and that it's dead, talk about making music without all the cussing, and then after your compilation album drops...go back 2 the gangsta style...which also returned him 2 a higher level of fame. On top of that, he then started being the musical force behind alot of 2day's most poisoning artists. Beastie Boys do whatever they want, when they want. And they also have their following supporting them. When Dre tried 2 change the game, his wanna-be gangsta fans ignored him...then embraced him when he did it again.

Let me start off by saying this is NOT "Public Enemy featuring Paris"...it's Paris featuring Public Enemy. I have Paris' 1st album...and "Days of Old" is one of my favorite songs. Otherwise, i think he's pretty average and i haven't cared 2 follow his stuff since. His production on this album is good...but i think the sound is 2 clean for PE. PE typically has something in the rough in their beats. With New Whirl Oder, u get the PE sound...but i don't think Paris provides PE with the right sound. It's not commerical, it's just 2 clean in my opinion (if that makes sense). Like recent PE albums, Flavour Flav kinda takes the back seat on the project. I wish he was on the album more. Chuck D isn't even on every track. And the guests on the album are more from Paris' connections...not PE's. I've always thought Kam waz dope...but if Paris put him on the album just cuz he's cool with him, it makes me wonder how much control PE had on this album. The thing that really killed it 4 me is that Paris wrote most of the lyrics. Come on!! Chuck D is one of the most intellegent and vocal emcees of all time but Paris waz writing his rhymes!?!?!?! That's the stupidest thing ever. Chuck D only wrote 4 of the trax on the album...at least that's what the album credits say. Is the album good...yes. Is it a PE album...not totally. Paris proudced the whole thing, put on the guests he wanted, and wrote almost all of the album. In my opinion, get New While Oder b4 u pick this up. I gotta say that i'm kinda disappointed witht his project.

PUBLIC ENEMY - Invisible Man Rebirth of A Nation (2006) I'm kinda disappoited with this album...expect a review.

My dad has some medical tests. So some prayer back up would be nice. I also have some things going on with the transition of me taking over my store, a show i'm working on and trying 2 get off the ground, and i have a friend who is having some problems. I'll keep it all general...but some prayers on all of this is greatly appricated...none of it is 2 serious.

LL COOL J - I Make My Own Rules (Promo) (1997)

T.I. is trash 2 me. Don't get my started on him. I'll give Ghoseface's new one a listen. I like a few random songs i've heard by him in the past...but i don't think i've really identified with anyone from Wu-Tang. I thought their 1st album waz amazing...but since then, it's all been average at best...the group albums and solo albums.

PEBBLES - Giving You The Benifit Always (1990)

This is Dave Chapelle's project. Artists didn't ask 2 be a part of it...he went after them 2 put this thing 2gether. This whole post is silly. FP is STILL making music and doing movies. He's been doing it for years and he's still going strong. He's a household name all over the world, he has countless awards and nominations, and his TV show that ended almost exactly 10 years ago is still in heavy sindication. How can he be doing anything wrong. Who cares what young kids think who don't know much about him. Hip-Hop heads know his name and give him crazy respect. And he has a loyal fanbase that stretches all color lines and ages...this message board is the perfect example. Nuff said.

LISA STANSFIELD - Never Gonna Fall (self-titled) (1997)
-
I just gotta say i waz more than pleased with this EP. I've been a fan of BEP since 1998. They are just a totally creative and positive group that have never tryed 2 be something they aren't. While i waz taken back for a minute when they dropped Elephunk, i still love them 2 death. Well, for those of u who don't like the way they altered their style back in 2003...this EP takes it a few steps closer 2 their original style. This album is dope...hands down. Check this... LIKE THAT - This is on their album Monkey Business. It's just a crazy upbeat joint with a dash of jazz. Not 2 mention all the talent that joins BEP on this one...Q-Tip, Talib Kwelie, John Legend, and Cee-Lo. Unfortunatly the video 4 this one didn't blow up like their others. U can check the video on my myspace profile (i've started adding the crew from this board back on as my friends again). BA BUMP (ERICK SERMON REMIX) - Erick Sermon does what he dose the best on the boards...he brings the funk. This remix takes the BEP's back 2 where they came from. They just ride this beat 2 death...Erick Sermon shows up on the track as well, tho' he doesn't really drop a rhyme. I dare u not 2 nod your head 2 this. MY STYLE (DJ PREMIER REMIX) - I'm surprised DJ Premier desided 2 remix this joint out of all the trax they did 4 the current album. Premo takes this track back down 2 earth with a retro kinda feel and the synths. I waz surprised that it didn't sound like your typical Premo stuff tho.' BEP again feel right at home on this joint. THEY DON'T WANT MUSIC (PETE ROCK REMIX) - I definitly like this one better than the album version. While the sound doesn't exactly have Pete Rock written all over it, Pete takes this song 2 the next level. I fills the sound out and makes it thicker. Just dope. FEEL IT (JAZZY JEFF SOULFUL REMIX) - Man, i loved this joint already. It waz definitly in my top 4 trax off Monkey Business...and it's dope that Jeff re-did this one. He starts it off with an old school feel, then smooths it out a bit. It's not R-N-Bish at all...straight Hip-Hop. He scratches on the trax and plays with the vocals a lil' bit. I can't say enough good things about this one. This makes me wonder if A Touch of Jazz really exists as a production company anymore since it's credited as "Remixed by Jeff Towns for J Town Music." "George Glass" mixed it...ha ha. And DJ Jazzy Jeff scratches on it (how many names does Jeff have?!?). Another thing, i know Jeff relocated 2 Delaware, but it says it waz recorded at "Jeff's Joint." Dose ATOJ exist AT ALL?? AUDIO DELITE - This track shows up on Monkey Business also. I like it, but it's not a stand out fav in my opinion. It fits in with the rest of the trax on this album tho.' DISCO CLUB (LARGE PRO PEAS REMIX) - This song has alot more energy with this remix. I don't think it's as good as the rest...but a good remix none the less. I'm not sure it waz the best song 2 remix in the 1st place. All in all, if u like BEP or creative, positive Hip-Hop...check the album. At $6.99, u can't go wrong. BEP are one of Hip-Hop stand-out acts...and with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock, Erick Sermon, and Large Professor on the boards, how can u pass it up. This album shines right now and would do the same in the 90's since it avoids all the current trends.

BLACK EYED PEAS + DJ JAZZY JEFF - Feel It (Jazzy Jeff Soulful Remix) Renegotiations: The Remixes (2006)
-
That's kinda weird. I think it's cool that MJ is relaxing and regrouping...and i like that he has his ear 2 other music. But G-Unit is the worst thing he could do. We'll see. I wouldn't use much respect for MJ...he's just doing his thing and making moves very carefully.

Rev. Run Talks 'Words Of Wisdom', New Projects
JumpinJack AJ replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
Ahhh!! Thanx 4 this. I've been kinda following the new book, but i didn't know it waz out. Run is all over the place. It's good seeing a pioneer out there still doing this thing and helping balance out the crap people associate with the word "Rap" and "Hip-Hop." I can't wait 2 hear this remix...i'm totally hyped. I like Run's album, but i really want some more contemporary stuff. JD's work with Run-DMC waz always good....so i'll be checkin' 4 this remix. It's time 2 push the album further. -
This remix is dope....i'm gonna post a review on the off topic board.
