As of March 10, 2005: Domestic Box Office: $140.3 million Overseas Box Office: $29.8 million Total Box Office: $170.1 million There is an outside chance that Hitch could top the $150 million mark this weekend. It will need to pull in about $9 million over the weekend for that to happen. Either way, Hitch continues to pull in strong numbers.

here's my proof. rapping about sex, girls, ice, cars, drugs and hood activities are ignorant. we all know that this stuff goes on in the hood. i'm from the south side of chicago where i see this on a daily basis. it's one thing to talk about that kind of stuff but what about offering solutions to it. rappers who rap about this garbage are doing absolutely nothing to edify hip-hop or to put positive images in the minds of impressionable young kids. the last thing kids need to hear after seeing negative images all day is hearing more trash from cats like 50. the hood lifestyle is not glamorous. innocent people are harmed by the hood lifestyle. my best friend was killed by a meaningless robbery attempt. as i said before, cats can like 50, g-unit and others. but please, don't insult my intelligence by telling me it's real. if you want to be real, offer some solutions. if you want to be real, tell kids to stay in the books. if you want to be real, tell young people to be active in the church and the political process. being fake is "teach you how to stunt." and that's what real!

lambert, are you serious? "do you watch cribs?" you do know that most of those houses you see on cribs are rented don't you? let me break down the music biz for a second. most artists are not the big ballers they claim to be. as far as record sales go this is how it works: let's say an artist sells a million copies and at $15 a pop that's $15 million. before the record company sees the return the government comes in and takes its tax which is about 45%. so now that $15 million is almost cut in half right off the top. the record label then gets their piece, followed by the manufacturers, producers, writers, studio techs., etc. before it ever gets to the artist. after everyone gets their cut, the artist may be left with $1-2 million of those sales and since a lot of artists don't have basic business sense, then they end up burning the money before the check comes. even tours and endorsements can be tricky. the record label you're under gets a piece whatever you do. tours can be profitable even after you pay the label, concert promoter, various venues, and other employees but again you have to be smart with your money. the fact is that most of these artists are "fronting" when you see them. puffy, jay-z, eminem, dr. dre, ll, fp and a few others are actual ballers. it's actually better to be a producer or a writer in the music biz. i think a lot of people believe that these videos are how rappers really live and that's just not the case. 50 cent may to really check his finances because he may not have the money he thinks he has. all that being said, .99 cents for a single is cheap. i'd rather do that than dish out $15 for a cd that has only 1 or 2 good songs. itunes, napster, and others are great!

What artists/tracks you feelin' lately?
TopDawg14 replied to DevilsJim89's topic in Caught in the Middle
Here's what I'm feelin right now: Phanatik - The Incredible Walk. He's a Christian MC who justs rips the mic. He's in a group called The Cross Movement. The album is off the chain. He's got a song called "Hip-Hop Music" in which he justs breaks it down and exposes the trash that is rap music today. You can go to Cross Movement Records to learn more about him and his crew. Oh by the way, they're from Philly! :thumb: -
I like the original but the reggae remix to me is rugged and grimey and I love that. So my vote goes to the reggae remix at #1, the original #2 and the r&b remix at #3. Maybe it's just me but I'm not really feelin' the r&b remix.
-
It's ok. I'm not really feeling it. I loved the reggae remix and the original much better. I hope they release the reggae remix in the U.S.
-
I like the original and the remix. The remix is hot. Thanks for hooking up the family!
-
I can record it as a .wav file so you can listen to it whenever you want. Shall I record it? YES, PLEASE RECORD IT! THE REMIX IS HOT!

Trey: Why you all up in my grill, yo?!?

They tend to do that in a lot of movies. The trailers are made sometimes before the movie is even finished. Directors tend to cut out scenes after the movie is completed but the trailers are already being played in theatres. You'll probably see that scene and others in the DVD version.

As I said before, these are grown @$$ folks. It's really none of our concerns, or our business. That being said, I'm sure Big Will knows what he's doing. I'm also sure Jada gave him the thumbs-up to pull these stunts on the red carpet. Damn, I'm jealous. He gets to kiss Eva Mendes at these events and then go home to Jada. Damn, Damn, DAMN!!!!!!

is there anyway for me to save this? it's kinda hot. i'm feeling it.

Switch #28 on the American Top 40
TopDawg14 replied to cataboy3's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I feel you AJ. I've only heard Switch on the radio 3 times(and it was on the "pop" station) and have seen the video only 3 times. The "hip-hop" radio stations haven't played it once. It's kind of hard to get hyped about Switch when you don't hear it or see it. I thought they were supposed to release the remixes of Switch to radio. Maybe the remixes could generate some heat. -
Heading into this weekend, Hitch has now grossed over $125 million and another $6 million overseas. Before its run finally comes to an end, Hitch could smooch its way to the $150 million mark in the U.S. Congratulations, Will on another box office smash!!! :thumb:

I think the reason 50 is selling is because of these beefs. As I said before, 50 Cent is not interested in anything but record sales. It's not about the music - it's about making money. I get the feeling that he doesn't love the music. He doesn't love hip-hop. It's all about the gimmick with G-Unit. It's about beats, hooks, marketing and hype. There's no question that cats like Common, The Roots, Talib Kweli and De La Soul are far superior rappers than G-Unit. The reason that they don't sell is not because they suck but rather they don't resort to beats, hooks and hype. The general public are being spoon-fed beats and hype and for the most part, they're eating it up. If cats like 50 then more power to them but there are people(a rapidly growing number of people by the way) who think that cats like 50 Cent are exactly what's wrong with rap today. A lot of today's rap(and that includes 50 Cent) is water-downed and without real lyricism. Listen to a song like Grandmaster Flash's "The Message". That's hip-hop. That song was made almost 25 years ago and it's still relevant today. "Disco Inferno" is not relevant. It's got a beat produced by Dre and that's all that most people care about - if the beat is tight.
-
LOL! That's some funny stuff. Could you imagine Will looking at some girl going, "Girl, cover your t*****s! Your man is over there watching you act a fool." :lolsign: :hilarious:
-
I always thought 50 Cent was complete garbage. This dude never cared about hip-hop. He just wanted to fatten his pockets and blow up. 50 is the poster child of all that is wrong with hip-hop today. I heard Fat Joe say on an interview that 50 Cent is becoming like Nino Brown from New Jack City. 50's ego is way out of control now and I wouldn't be surprised if he started dissing Dr. Dre or Eminem. He's dissed just about everybody else in the rap game including Will(and Will never said anything about 50). The reason he kicked The Game out of G-Unit is because Game did a track with R. Kelly and wouldn't join 50 on a diss track. 50 is basically going around barking orders and Game didn't jump when 50 said so. Don't worry, 50's time on the rap scene is just... about... up.

Chuck D. is saying what I've been saying for years. In the pursuit of the almighty dollars, a lot of rappers will rap about anything to get paid. Rap music to them is a hustle. Do you really think cats like 50 Cent really care about the art form? As long as he can make records that make money then it's all good in his mind. Rappers have sold their souls for money. These rappers don't believe that doing real hip-hop music sells. They figure " if I try and I don't sell, then the label's gonna drop me. I've got to do whatever I can to sell records. This is my hustle." The tripped out thing is everytime you get rid of a wack rapper, another rises. Ja Rule rises & falls and who's there to take his place - 50 Cent. IT'S ABOUT THE MONEY! Money is what drives rap music now. That's why real hip-hop acts can't get signed to major labels. These labels are about money and real hip-hop heads(FP, De La, Queen Latifah, etc.) aren't going to rap about just any old thing and sell their souls. 50 Cent will and that's what he does.

Will freestyling over the "How We Do" beat
TopDawg14 replied to Hitch203's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
The beat with Will rapping over it is sick. The beat with 50 & Game rapping on it makes it suck. It's all in the lyrics for me. I really don't care how hot the beat is you still have to say something. That one verse Will kick over "How We Do" is 10 times better than the entire song 50 & Game recorded. -
The "I Bet Lost and Found will Sell..."-Thread
TopDawg14 replied to J-2-K's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I think Lost & Found will do 1.3 million in the U.S. and a little over 4 million overseas. I think that fans here in America are very fickled. An album like L&F should do 3-5 million in the U.S. but since everyone is so blinded by slick production and hype it'll be hard for people to recognize real hip-hop. That's why people like 50 Cent, G-Unit and others sell - people buy into hype and nonsense.
