  2. I got the album...it's good. I think i posted a review in that album review post. I definitely think it's worth a listen.
  3. Testimony: Lumidee Young Dance Star Recounts Her Fight with Rheumatoid Arthritis As told to Angela Bronner, AOL Black Voices Testimony: Lumidee TVT Records Lumidee's new album drops April 17th. Many know Lumidee (nee Lumidee Cedeno) from her 2003 mega hit, 'Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh),' the infectious anthem she dropped at the tender age of 19. What many didn't know was that Lumidee had just had two hip replacements because of Rheumatoid Arthritis, which was diagnosed when she was 14. RA, an autoimmune disorder, is the leading cause of disability in the country. The Spanish Harlem native, whose latest album, 'Unexpected' debuts April 17, is Youth Ambassador of the 2007 Arthritis Walk. She shares her Testimony with Black Voices. It was definitely tough for me. I was starting high school. I did like the first three months of high school but I couldn't take it because it started taking a toll on me really quick. I had gotten a rash on my legs. It was like little patches; almost like an irritation from a detergent. Then my wrist was a little bit cramped up and my ankles. But I didn't really think much of it. I went to the doctor to find out about the rash and didn't mention I was cramped up. So they said, maybe this is just an allergic reaction. But my bones started hurting me and I started to get cramped up, so I went back and told them about it. They thought it was lupus because the rash and the symptoms were like Lupus. I did the test and it came back negative. As more time passed they realized it was Rheumatoid Arthritis. Being that I was so young, I really didn't know much about it and my family didn't believe me, so they thought I was trying to get out of school. My grandmother -- she's old school -- she thought I was lying because it was something they couldn't physically see. [They began to believe me when] they started seeing my body getting swelled up and the joints changing. And they had to believe it. I went through that with my family, so it was pretty tough. When I was younger, I was pretty naïve. I didn't have money, my family didn't have money and my medication was like $400 a month and even more. Basically I was living off of social security benefits from my deceased father, and I would just blow it on clothes and sneakers. I was young, and I wasn't worried about medication. And that's what made it worse for me. It was because of that, I had to get the hip replacements early -- four and half years after I was diagnosed, so I was turning 19. Basically, I'm telling my story now because I think it's important; because it had a lot to do with my career. Because when I was diagnosed with it, I was so depressed. I was home for like a year straight. I didn't really go outside. It was physically hard for me to move around. And being so young, and being so used to hanging out, I felt embarrassed. The way I was walking and I couldn't even open my hands. They were cramped up almost like a claw. I walked really badly. I was basically homebound for a while. Having the home instruction for three years and not being able to hang out and be active, I started writing poetry. And from my writing poetry, and writing my feelings down, I started writing songs. And I had nothing else to do but dream. I had this goal. I'm writing my songs. I always wanted to do music, but once I realized I had the writing talent, I knew I could go all the way with this. So that's basically what got me through it, having that goal. I think it's an inspirational story for people because sometimes it makes you want to give up. Having Rheumatoid Arthritis or having any sickness or disease that you have no control over, [you can't] let it put a stop to what you're doing. Don't be a prisoner to it. You can still have goals and reach them. It doesn't matter how big your goals are. A lot of people don't realize that young people have this. People are actually being born with this. It's something that people should know about and the awareness should be set because I had to struggle with my family believing me. I had to hide it my first time around and I don't want to hide nothing now. When I first came out, they thought it would scare off the labels or I'd be sick or that I wouldn't be able to make it to shows. So in the beginning, they just gave me a little story: 'If they ask you why you walk like that, it's because you fell off a motorcycle. You had an accident.' I really wasn't comfortable with it, but I really didn't know what was expected of me and if this is what it takes me to do my music, then fine. But I wound up telling them in the end, that I'm not perfect and you don't have to be perfect.

  7. This is pretty disturbing...but it only makes sense the way the human race seems 2 work. Scientists Offer Frightening Forecast By Ker Than and Andrea Thompson (April 22) -- Our planet's prospects for environmental stability are bleaker than ever as the world celebrates Earth Day on Sunday. Global warming is widely accepted as a reality by scientists and even by previously doubtful government and industrial leaders. And according to a recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), there is a 90 percent likelihood that humans are contributing to the change. Dire Predictions for Earth The international panel of scientists predicts the global average temperature could increase by 2 to 11 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100 and that sea levels could rise by up to 2 feet. Scientists have even speculated that a slight increase in Earth's rotation rate could result, along with other changes. Glaciers, already receding, will disappear. Epic floods will hit some areas while intense drought will strike others. Humans will face widespread water shortages. Famine and disease will increase. Earth’s landscape will transform radically, with a quarter of plants and animals at risk of extinction. While putting specific dates on these traumatic potential events is challenging, this timeline paints the big picture and details Earth's future based on several recent studies and the longer scientific version of the IPCC report, which was made available to LiveScience. 2007 More of the world's population now lives in cities than in rural areas, changing patterns of land use. The world population surpasses 6.6 billion. (Peter Crane, Royal Botanic Gardens, UK, Science; UN World Urbanization Prospectus: The 2003 Revision; U.S. Census Bureau) 2008 Global oil production peaks sometime between 2008 and 2018, according to a model by one Swedish physicist. Others say this turning point, known as “Hubbert’s Peak,” won’t occur until after 2020. Once Hubbert’s Peak is reached, global oil production will begin an irreversible decline, possibly triggering a global recession, food shortages and conflict between nations over dwindling oil supplies. (doctoral dissertation of Frederik Robelius, University of Uppsala, Sweden; report by Robert Hirsch of the Science Applications International Corporation) 2020 Flash floods will very likely increase across all parts of Europe. (IPCC) Less rainfall could reduce agriculture yields by up to 50 percent in some parts of the world. (IPCC) World population will reach 7.6 billion people. (U.S. Census Bureau) The Global Warming Threat 2030 Diarrhea-related diseases will likely increase by up to 5 percent in low-income parts of the world. (IPCC) Up to 18 percent of the world’s coral reefs will likely be lost as a result of climate change and other environmental stresses. In Asian coastal waters, the coral loss could reach 30 percent. (IPCC) World population will reach 8.3 billion people. (U.S. Census Bureau) Warming temperatures will cause temperate glaciers on equatorial mountains in Africa to disappear. (Richard Taylor, University College London, Geophysical Research Letters:) In developing countries, the urban population will more than double to about 4 billion people, packing more people onto a given city's land area. The urban populations of developed countries may also increase by as much as 20 percent. (World Bank: The Dynamics of Global Urban Expansion) 2040 The Arctic Sea could be ice-free in the summer, and winter ice depth may shrink drastically. Other scientists say the region will still have summer ice up to 2060 and 2105. (Marika Holland, NCAR, Geophysical Research Letters) 2050 Small alpine glaciers will very likely disappear completely, and large glaciers will shrink by 30 to 70 percent. Austrian scientist Roland Psenner of the University of Innsbruck says this is a conservative estimate, and the small alpine glaciers could be gone as soon as 2037. (IPCC) In Australia, there will likely be an additional 3,200 to 5,200 heat-related deaths per year. The hardest hit will be people over the age of 65. An extra 500 to 1,000 people will die of heat-related deaths in New York City per year. In the United Kingdom, the opposite will occur, and cold-related deaths will outpace heat-related ones. (IPCC) World population reaches 9.4 billion people. (U.S. Census Bureau) Crop yields could increase by up to 20 percent in East and Southeast Asia, while decreasing by up to 30 percent in Central and South Asia. Similar shifts in crop yields could occur on other continents. (IPCC) As biodiversity hotspots are more threatened, a quarter of the world’s plant and vertebrate animal species could face extinction. (Jay Malcolm, University of Toronto, Conservation Biology) 2070 As glaciers disappear and areas affected by drought increase, electricity production for the world’s existing hydropower stations will decrease. Hardest hit will be Europe, where hydropower potential is expected to decline on average by 6 percent; around the Mediterranean, the decrease could be up to 50 percent. (IPCC) Warmer, drier conditions will lead to more frequent and longer droughts, as well as longer fire-seasons, increased fire risks, and more frequent heat waves, especially in Mediterranean regions. (IPCC) 2080 While some parts of the world dry out, others will be inundated. Scientists predict up to 20 percent of the world’s populations live in river basins likely to be affected by increased flood hazards. Up to 100 million people could experience coastal flooding each year. Most at risk are densely populated and low-lying areas that are less able to adapt to rising sea levels and areas which already face other challenges such as tropical storms. (IPCC) Coastal population could balloon to 5 billion people, up from 1.2 billion in 1990. (IPCC) Between 1.1 and 3.2 billion people will experience water shortages and up to 600 million will go hungry. (IPCC) Sea levels could rise around New York City by more than three feet, potentially flooding the Rockaways, Coney Island, much of southern Brooklyn and Queens, portions of Long Island City, Astoria, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, lower Manhattan and eastern Staten Island from Great Kills Harbor north to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. (NASA GISS) 2085 The risk of dengue fever from climate change is estimated to increase to 3.5 billion people. (IPCC) 2100 A combination of global warming and other factors will push many ecosystems to the limit, forcing them to exceed their natural ability to adapt to climate change. (IPCC) Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels will be much higher than anytime during the past 650,000 years. (IPCC) Ocean pH levels will very likely decrease by as much as 0.5 pH units, the lowest it’s been in the last 20 million years. The ability of marine organisms such as corals, crabs and oysters to form shells or exoskeletons could be impaired. (IPCC) Thawing permafrost and other factors will make Earth’s land a net source of carbon emissions, meaning it will emit more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than it absorbs. (IPCC) Roughly 20 to 30 percent of species assessed as of 2007 could be extinct by 2100 if global mean temperatures exceed 2 to 3 degrees of pre-industrial levels. (IPCC) New climate zones appear on up to 39 percent of the world’s land surface, radically transforming the planet. (Jack Williams, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) A quarter of all species of plants and land animals—more than a million total—could be driven to extinction. The IPCC reports warn that current “conservation practices are generally ill-prepared for climate change and effective adaptation responses are likely to be costly to implement.” (IPCC) Increased droughts could significantly reduce moisture levels in the American Southwest, northern Mexico and possibly parts of Europe, Africa and the Middle East, effectively recreating the “Dust Bowl” environments of the 1930s in the United States. (Richard Seager, Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, Science) 2200 An Earth day will be 0.12 milliseconds shorter, as rising temperatures cause oceans to expand away from the equator and toward the poles, one model predicts. One reason water will be shifted toward the poles is most of the expansion will take place in the North Atlantic Ocean, near the North Pole. The poles are closer to the Earth’s axis of rotation, so having more mass there should speed up the planet’s rotation. (Felix Landerer, Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Geophysical Research Letters)
  8. It's always been one of my favorites 2. I remember being 11 and this song just standing out 2 me. I identified with the song back then and i identify with it now. The Hip-Hop meets the clubs style beat is great 2. The remixes are great and the video is one of their best.
  9. Hip Hop I love the timeless beat on this one. Great intro and start 2 the album. Twone Gabs is nice on the mic. There's a bar or 2 that i'm not a big fan of due 2 the tasteless line here and there, but this is my 1st time hearing him. He's definitely got potential 2 do big things. I love the way this beat is layered and topped off with Jazzy's scratches. Beats like this are an emcee's dream come true. 8/10 Let Me Hear You Clap Lovin' this joint. It actually feels like it could be on any of the De La albums. Pos comes with his usual rhymes sceme and flow...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Jazzy's beat has a looping piano sample over a steady soul-clap Hip-Hop beat. 10/10 Run That Back Wow!! In the dictionary under the word "flawless" is a pic of this song being created in the studio. Amazing! The steady but chunky beat is soooooo good. The mellow vibes kinda remind me of some Tribe Called Quest joints. Excellent vocals on the track 2. I just love the solid sound 2 this one. 10/10 The Definition Hip-Hop is alive and well...just ask Jazzy + Kel. Kel sounds right at home over the summery, pianoy, breezy, beat. Much better than some of the more agressive stuff he's rapped over the past. And lyrics for lyric, he's broken Hip-Hop down 2 a science. This track is untouchable. 10/10 Touch Me With Your Hands Jazzy gets grown and sexy on this one. Chinah Blac sounds great but lyrically she isn't saying much that wasn't said by many over-sexed 90's R-N-B artists. The neo-soul track also isn't breaking any new ground...but it doesn't matter cuz it's so good. I'm wondering if this is the same singer that opened up for Musiq a few years ago under the same name. 8/10 Jeff N Fess This comes across as the track intended 2 grab some of the more commercial fans...tho' i would never call this track "commerical Hip-Hop." I love the energy of the beat, tho' it left me wanting just a bit more. Rhymefest is good...but i also didn't feel the explict lyrics 2 much. They just seemed kinda outta place. To me, this is my 2nd least favorite track. It kinda reminds me of "The Magnificent" tho'...and it's always nice when an artists does something that kinda pulls from a previous project. 7/10 Practice Wooo-we!! Another dope one. The straight Hip-Hop sound just doesn't get old. Probably cuz peeps like me have been deprived of it 4 so long. I love that J-Live is on the joint 2. Other than being a dope emcee, he's the only cat who waz on the 1st album...so he kinda helps tie the project down. Man, this is another one i'll be playing loud all summer. 10/10 Supa Jean I've only remotely familiar with Jean Grae but from what i've heard, i like her style. And i like her on this joint. This is another beat 2 keep things hype, nicely contrasting the smoother stuff on the album. Just straight rhymes and a classic sound. It's not a stand-out joint, but good none the less. 7/10 The Garden Heavy. I love this. BDK needed 2 do something and he needed the proper oulet 2 do it just right. Jazzy's album is that perfect outlet. The beat is heavy and kinda unique. It's also got that solid, warm feel. 10/10 She Was So Flyy I love the retro feel on this one. I'm not totally feeling the vocals, but the lyrics are dope. I don't have alot 2 say abou this track...i think i need 2 listen 2 it some more. 7/10 Hold it Down Back in the 90's, if u told me that DJ Jazzy Jeff and Method Man were gonna do a song 2gether. I would be hesitant 2 believe it, but if i did, i would think the song would be just like this. It's a mix of the street and soul. The uptempo sound is perfect and Meth just flow right with the beat. 9/10 All I Know I've had the EP since it came out and this song is still amazing 2 me. The mellow synth-heavy sound mixed with C.L's classic and slick vocals is just dope. Kinda the JJ+Mef joint....if u told me Jazzy Jeff + C.L. were doing a track 2gether, i would assume it'd come out just like this. It's the perfect mix of their styles and personalities. 10/10 Go See The Doctor 2K7 Crazy. Old school is alive and well. The humor and fun approach 2 a message like this just doesn't happen anymore. The beat is good, but a little light weight compared 2 the others...then again, it follows "All I Know." I love the hook on this song. 9/10 My Soul Ain’t For Sale Perfect. Hip-Hop meets Soul. Grown and intellegent. Slick and smooth. So many great things can be said about this song. The vibe of this song will make any bad day get brighter. Raheem is the man. He needs Jeff 2 handel his next album. I love that this joint is getting spins on "adult contemporary soul" radio. 10/10 Come On Heavy but not preachy. Dave Ghetto is the truth. The smooth beat and the Marvin Gaye/Tammy Terrell sample is the what Hip-Hop is all about. Only Jazzy can take a sample that's been used 100 times and make it interesting. Great song. 10/10 Brand New Funk 2K7 Ummm...hmmm. I'm just disappointed with this Peedie is the weakest artist on the album and i think he's rhymes are average and occiasionally lacking taste. It's just not right. Why waste the time and effort recording this and finishing the album off with this track. I'll never know. 6/10 I actually agree with Tim on nearly everything...that's why alot of my reviews were short and sweet. There are a few samples on the album that have been used so many times. But instead of being boring and unoriginal, Jeff has masterminded these samples in a way that is totally fresh and actually makes a true Hip-Hop head feel at home...remembering a time when alot of music this good was coming out. Jeff has become one of the best producers of all time. The fact that he single handedly produced the album is great cuz the album just fits 2gether. These days we are so used 2 albums where every song has a different producer, which isn't always a bad thing, but often is and keeps the sound of the "album" everywhere. While 1 or 2 of the artists are clearly weaker than the rest, the talent on the album is all pretty strong if not amoungst the best. Jeff's scratching is on point and all over the album. I love that he didn't let this be mostly a production album and kept DJing 1st and foremost. The interludes are entertaining 2...tho' i'm sure a few months down the road i'll be making a copy of the album with just the songs 2 cram on an extra track or 2 of the EP. Compared 2 The Magnificent, the new album is definitely better, stronger, and all part of the evolution. I do wish that V, Paul Yamz, Baby Blak, Chef Word, and a few others were on this album, but maybe next time. The sound over all has definitely strengthened and will draw lots of attention to Jeff's overlooked talent as a producer. Overall the album is amazing. It could be considered for the best Hip-Hop album released in the last 10 years. No lie. It's imporant that us fans go out and get this album. The music industry sucks. The commercial state of Hip-Hop is litereally 99% pure trash. Record sales are slacking. Go out and buy this album in the music stores the day it drops or i will personally kill u.
  10. DJ JAZZY JEFF + DAVE GHETTO - Come On The Return of The Magnificent (2007)
  11. Sending them Private Messages should give them a heads up thru' their regular e-mail. Unless they don't get online or changed their e-mail, that should bring a few of them back.
  12. PUFFY + KEYSHIA COLE - Last Night Press Play (2006) ...playing on VH-1 Keyshia drops amazing vocals as usual...but then something awful happened, they laid her amazing vocals over this garbage beat. 2 further the destruction, they did the only other thing that could further ruin the song...they let Puffy sing on it.
  13. Killer's Family Feels 'Helpless and Lost' Virginia Tech Holds Day of Mourning for Victims By ALLEN G. BREED and AARON BEARD AP BLACKSBURG, Va. (April 20) - The family of Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho told The Associated Press on Friday that they feel "hopeless, helpless and lost," and "never could have envisioned that he was capable of so much violence." "He has made the world weep. We are living a nightmare," said a statement issued by Cho's sister, Sun-Kyung Cho, on the family's behalf. It was the Chos' first public comment since the 23-year-old student killed 32 people and committed suicide Monday in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history. Raleigh, N.C., lawyer Wade Smith provided the statement to the AP after the Cho family reached out to him. Smith said the family would not answer any questions, and neither would he. "Our family is so very sorry for my brother's unspeakable actions. It is a terrible tragedy for all of us," said Sun-Kyung Cho, a 2004 Princeton University graduate who works as a contractor for a State Department office that oversees American aid for Iraq . "We pray for their families and loved ones who are experiencing so much excruciating grief. And we pray for those who were injured and for those whose lives are changed forever because of what they witnessed and experienced," she said. "Each of these people had so much love, talent and gifts to offer, and their lives were cut short by a horrible and senseless act." Authorities are in frequent contact with Cho's family, but have not placed them in protective custody, said Assistant FBI Director Joe Persichini, who oversees the bureau's local Washington office. Authorities believe they remain in the Washington area, but are staying with friends and relatives. Sources: AP, cnn.com, nytimes.com, washingtonpost.com Persichini said the FBI and Fairfax County Police have assured Cho's parents that they will investigate any hate crimes directed at the family if and when they ever return to their Centreville home. The family statement was issued during a statewide day of mourning for the victims. Silence fell across the Virginia Tech campus at noon and bells tolled in churches nationwide in memory of the victims. "We are humbled by this darkness. We feel hopeless, helpless and lost. This is someone that I grew up with and loved. Now I feel like I didn't know this person," Cho's sister said. "We have always been a close, peaceful and loving family. My brother was quiet and reserved, yet struggled to fit in. We never could have envisioned that he was capable of so much violence." She said her family will cooperate fully and "do whatever we can to help authorities understand why these senseless acts happened. We have many unanswered questions as well." Wendy Adams, whose niece, Leslie Sherman, was killed in the massacre, said of the family's statement: "I'm not so generous to be able to forgive him for what he did. But I do feel for the family. I do feel sorry for them." "I do believe they're living a nightmare," she added. Robert Jeffers of Idaho Falls, Idaho, a friend of slain 25-year-old student Brian Bluhm, said: "I hope people can see that the right action to take from all of this is love, not hate." "Based on this sorrowful statement, it is apparent that the family grieves with everyone in the world," Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker said. Cho's name was given as "Cho Seung-Hui " by police and school officials earlier this week. But the the South Korean immigrant family said their preference was "Seung-Hui Cho." Many Asian immigrant families Americanize their names by reversing them and putting their surnames last. While Cho clearly was seething and had been taken to a psychiatric hospital more than a year as threat to himself, investigators are still trying to establish exactly what set him off, why he chose a dormitory and a classroom building for the rampage and how he selected his victims. Panel to Probe Massacre Gov. Tim Kaine has named an independent panel to review the events surrounding the deadly rampage at Virginia Tech. "The why and the how are the crux of the investigation," Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. "The why may never be determined because the person responsible is deceased." During the campus memorial, hundreds of somber students and area residents, most wearing the school's maroon and orange, stood with heads bowed on the parade ground in front of Norris Hall, the classrooom building where all but two of the victims died. Along with the bouquets and candles was a sign reading, "Never forgotten." "It's good to feel the love of people around you," said Alice Lo, a Virginia Tech graduate and friend of Jocelyne Couture-Nowak, a French instructor killed in the rampage. "With this evil, there is still goodness." The mourners gathered in front of stone memorials, each adorned with a basket of tulips and an American flag. There were 33 stones - one for each victim and Cho. "His family is suffering just as much as the other families," said Elizabeth Lineberry, who will be a freshman at Virginia Tech in the fall. In a city park in Frederick, Md., student Claire Moblard rang a 3,400-pound bell once for each of the slain. Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland asked state residents to observe a moment of silence. And in Baltimore, Mayor Sheila Dixon and about 100 city employees paused silently at City Hall while bells tolled at Zion Lutheran Church and the Baltimore Basilica. Near Richmond, Va., a dozen Tech alumni gathered at dawn at an intersection, waving school flags and banners and holding signs asking motorists to honk. The blare of car horns was deafening, and some drivers lowered their windows and raised their arms in a thumbs-up or V-for-victory salute. President Bush wore an orange and maroon tie in a show of support. The White House said he also asked top officials at the Justice, Health and Human Services and Education Departments to travel the country, talk to educators, mental health experts and others and compile a report on how to prevent similar tragedies. Seven people hurt in the rampage remained hospitalized, at least one in serious condition.
  14. This is the dumbest thing i've ever seen...the "rapper" that is... ------------------------- Philly Police Want Rapping Firefighter Fired AP PHILADELPHIA (April 17) - Police union officials have called for the immediate firing of a city firefighter and aspiring rapper who wrote anti-police lyrics about turning "pigs into bacon bits." The Fraternal Order of Police on Monday demanded the dismissal of Rodney Jean-Jacques, who raps under the name Cal Akbar. "I got a surprise for them cops," Jean-Jacques raps, as sounds of gunfire erupt in the background. "I hope the news is taping this, 'cause I'm gonna turn pigs into bacon bits." The untitled song surfaced last week on a Web site promoting Jean-Jacques' record "Sin City Vol. 1" and his record company, the Larsiny Family. Bob Eddis, president of the local FOP chapter, said he gave Jean-Jacques a deadline of midnight Sunday to provide a written apology that the police union could post on its Web site, but none came. "I think at first it might have been a mistake of the head," Eddis said. "But now I believe it's a mistake of the heart. It's a disgrace. He is a city employee and he should be held accountable for making these statements." Brian McBride, head of the Philadelphia Fire Fighters Union Local 22, said officials were hoping Jean-Jacques would issue an apology soon and that he was trying to get Jean-Jacques to do so. "Naturally, I condemn and strongly disagree with any song that recommends any kind of violence towards our brothers and sisters in blue in the police department," McBride said. Jean-Jacques told the Philadelphia Daily News via e-mail: "Mum's the word. I want to tell my side of the story but I can't just yet. I have to clear it with my superiors." Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers would not comment other than to say the matter is under investigation. Joe Grace, spokesman for Mayor John Street, said union officials and the police and fire commissioners were discussing the issue and "all parties are taking it very seriously." Jean-Jacques' music received positive notice in 2005, when he wrote and performed "Take It Outside," a song encouraging fire safety. The song was promoted by the Fire Department and was shown during the broadcast of a football game between the Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys.
  15. Notorious B.I.G.'s Family Sues Los Angeles AP LOS ANGELES (April 19) -- The family of slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. has filed a second wrongful-death lawsuit against the city, alleging that rogue police officers killed him 10 years ago. The suit, filed Tuesday, seeks unspecified damages on behalf of the widow, mother and two children of the rapper. B.I.G., whose given name was Christopher Wallace, was 24 when he was gunned down March 9, 1997, while leaving a party at a Los Angeles museum. The New York rapper, also known as Biggie Smalls, was an influential hip-hop artist in the 1990s. The lawsuit was filed Monday in Superior Court. In addition to the city, it names former Los Angeles police officer Rafael Perez and his ex-partner, Nino Durden. The suit contends that Perez, Durden and other police agents conspired to murder Wallace and that the police department covered up their involvement. The suit also alleges that at the time, Perez was working for Death Row Records, the rap music company owned by Marion "Suge" Knight, who has denied any involvement in the killing. Perez and Durden were at the heart of an LAPD scandal involving abuses by members of a Rampart Division anti-gang squad. They have never been charged in connection with the Wallace killing. Perez, who now goes by the name Ray Lopez, has denied any involvement. An attorney for Durden could not be located Tuesday. There was no telephone listing for Durden in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department did not have any immediate comment about the suit. "We don't comment on lawsuits that are in litigation," Officer April Harding said Tuesday. The rapper's family filed a similar lawsuit in federal court. That suit ended in a mistrial in 2005 when it was discovered that a police detective intentionally hid statements by a jailhouse informant linking the killing to Perez and former officer David Mack, who also has denied involvement. A judge previously ordered the city to pay $1.1 million in legal fees and other expenses to the rapper's family.

  18. He made a comment months ago that dropping records might be a "thing of the past." But alot of the interviews and actions since then have pointed 2 more music and more touring in the future. It's just important 2 keep supporting his music 2 the fullest so that he doesn't get the feeling that the fans are tired of it.
  19. It's time they bury the hatchet and do something 2gether as a trio again. It would only be right. Whether he's on 2 or 3 tracks or actually touring with them. It's just time 2 end the drama. It's become a stain on JJ+FP's history.

  22. The Aftermath... Student Arrested After Talking About Gunman Remarks Deemed Sympathetic to Virginia Tech Killer AP BOULDER, Colo. (April 19) - A University of Colorado student was arrested after making comments that classmates deemed sympathetic toward the gunman blamed for killing 32 students and himself at Virginia Tech , authorities said. During a class discussion of Monday's massacre at Virginia Tech, the student "made comments about understanding how someone could kill 32 people," university police Cmdr. Brad Wiesley said. Several witnesses told investigators the student said he was "angry about all kinds of things from the fluorescent light bulbs to the unpainted walls, and it made him angry enough to kill people," according to a police report. Witnesses "said they were afraid of him and afraid to come to class with him," Wiesley said. The student, identified by police as Max Karson of Denver, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of interfering with staff, faculty or students of an education institution. He had a court appearance set for Wednesday afternoon. His father, Michael Karson, told the Camera newspaper that the comments may have been misinterpreted and questioned whether his son's free speech rights had been violated. "I would have hoped that state officials would know their First Amendment better than they seem to," he said. University spokesman Bronson Hilliard said privacy laws prevented him from releasing personal information about the student. At Oregon's Lewis & Clark College, another student was detained by campus police Wednesday shortly before a vigil for the Virginia Tech victims when he was spotted wearing an ammunition belt. Portland police later determined that it was "a fashion accessory" made of spent ammunition, and said the man did not have a weapon. The belt was confiscated.
