  1. Wow man, that's a dick thing to do. Not only did I not disagree with you in this thread, I was actually disagreeing with the same person as you. As to our other discussion in a separate thread, I haven't ducked any of your "arguments". I did, however, go to work, study, and take care of my son between your last post and now. You'll have to pardon how I prioritize my time. lol what? I wanst talking about you. i was talking about aj ducking, and you bringin arguments. Fair enough You are absolutely right. What really makes me sad is that my boy isn't posting yet. I'll be having a talk with him in the near future.
  2. Even on his music from before he was shot, such as How To Rob and Ghetto Qu'ran , he mumbled. In 88 and 90, there where not a lot of rappers who had a better flow than Hammer. Even today, his delivery on a lot of his tracks hold up.

  4. You folks are making me very tired... But "I dont think that you can judge an Mc on how he was back in the day, not if he's still releasing records" is just silly. By that logic I shouldn't listen to The Beatles because of Wings. But Beatles' records still hold up as melodically complex and lyrically on point... and were often greater than what the Wings made... My point in that quote was not about comparing old to new, my point was that "judge an Mc on how he was back in the day, not if he's still releasing records" is a ridiculous statement. Whether or not a musician is still working in no way alters the quality if his or her previous works. Going back to the original quote: In my opinion, that's flat wrong, rapping was one of Hammer's strengths. Actually performing his songs, making sounds with his mouth. His ability to rap was FAR better than 50 cents mumbling crap. His delivery was very good.
  5. I don't disagree that Hammer isn't good these days. I don't listen to anything new by him, so I don't really know, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's not that skilled any more. But "I dont think that you can judge an Mc on how he was back in the day, not if he's still releasing records" is just silly. By that logic I shouldn't listen to The Beatles because of Wings.
  6. Hey Brakes, when's the album coming out?
  7. Musicians, rappers included, are frequently more than their lyrics. Otherwise they'd be poets, perhaps spoken word performers. For a rapper, style, flow, and general delivery are important to their quality and success. Performance abilities, especially videos, are very important for a musician. There's a reason why video killed the radio. Michael Jackson wouldn't have been nearly as huge if he wasn't an excellent dancer and had killer videos. Etc... And, for the time period, Hammer's lyrics weren't as bad as you're saying. In 1989, rhyme patterns, by and large, weren't overly complex. Hammer definitely wasn't pushing the envelope, I'd say his structure was similar to Run DMC, solid if a little old school. His topics where pretty good for the day, he had several dance hits, but he also made a lot of heal the world type of songs, including a pretty strong single called Pray, not your standard fair for the time. You really don't seem to be appreciating the history or evolution or rap. You want it to have sprung fully developed instead of growing into what it is today. I suspect you'd also say that Chuck Berry sucks because he wasn't as socially conscious as The Beatles where. I have a lot more to say, but I need to go tell some kids to get off my lawn.
  8. That was awesome! I loved Freddy doing the running man! Wasn't that from the opening to You Saw My Blinker?
  9. Ahahahahahahaha, may I point out: Newt Gingrich had multiple affairs Mark Foley attempted to seduce multiple teenage boys Glen Murphy Jr raped another man Ken Calvert was arrested for having sex with a prostitute Bob Allen, that charmer, offered a guy money to allow Bob to "perform" on him, and then tried to cover it up with a racist remark. And let's not forget Strom Thurmond
  10. Ya'll need to stop with that MC Hammer ish. For real, ya'll need to read his lyrics.. Its really not good in any way at all (Which is amazing caus half of it he actulay payed for). 50 could outrap him if he'd get back to his old days (not saying he was good, but atleast he was lirlcly better than Hammer). Speaking as someone who actually lived through that time period, you have no idea. Hammer was HUGE. The fame and success he received from his second and third albums, at the time, was insane. To put this in context, this is the same time that De La Soul came out, JJFP won for Parents, Slick Rick put out The Great Adventures, and NWA was breaking up. To try and look at his lyrics in the context of modern rap is silly, and actually beside the point. Hammer was a performer and a hell of a performer at that. His dancing was phenomenal, his delivery was smooth, his energy was insane, and his persona had mothers wanting to adopt him. Now, I find it hilarious and enjoy mocking him routinely for going broke. I think entertainers are massively over paid and I have no heart ache for them going broke, but to say he wasn't something important to rap is to not fully understand how hot he was and what made him that hot.
  11. I agree with you there. Of course, he turns them out like mad, I think that's his core base. But then again, didn't young people (my gen) win it for Bill Clinton?
  12. Optimists are cool and Chief is ugly.
  13. The very last paragraph of the two page article contains a pretty important statement: "There is no mention of Obama in the Rezko indictment."
  14. Woot indeed! This is an outstanding and historic day! If anyone hasn't seen any of Obama's speeches, I highly recommend watching one or twelve of them. This man is amazing and has every potential to be the best president of any of our lifetimes. Words Matter: youtube link Much like Eric B & Rakim, Obama can move the crowd: youtube link The Race Speech: youtube link A most excellent song: youtube link And his stance on issues: his issues website Obama went to Harvard Law School and was a community organizer in Chicago. He was raised all over the globe being exposed to different ways of life, different belief systems and different standards of living. Right now, at this moment, Obama's victory is headline news all over the world, and a lot of that world is hopeful about what may be the beginning of a new America.
  15. And I'm about two months late to the discussion, but... So you say that The Godfather would also reflect poorly on Francis Ford Coppola? I reject the premise that gangster rap is a negative effect on society. Society is the bummer. There have been gangster movies since there have been movies. There have been assaults since there have been guns. The first drive by was on a horse. Read some Shakespeare, he wrote more than comedies. Billy The Kid was idealized long before Snoop was having his albums crushed. The Greeks where actually slaughtering and being slaughtered a few millenia before there was a movie about it. And I can't put my finger on it, but I think something bad happened in the late 30's and early 40's. There's violence in the world, there's violence in the media. Teach the difference between fake violence and real violence, don't get mad that fake violence exists, get mad that the real violence exists. There's a reason why kids used have fun playing "Cowboys and Indians" and there's also a reason why they would get punished if they got into a fight.
  16. Thanks man, my own personal candy store!
  17. :yeahthat: Wow, who'd a thunk it, Kentucky still houses some racists. :paperbag:
  18. I agree, Code Red was a masterpiece for what it was, but so was Homebase and He's the DJ. But of course, Code Red is, was, and always shall be the best of the best. :)
  19. Thanks everyone! Two weeks in and so far fatherhood is great! Sorry to ruin your fantasies man, I know you have so little.
  20. I just wanted to share that earlier today, my wife gave birth to a very handsome boy. My son, Jazz Anthony. I thought ya'll would get a kick out of the name. My father gave me a very unique name, which I love, so I wanted to do the same for my son, and Jazz seemed to fit the bill. :)
