1. Not sure I feel about this. I like and respect Mad Skillz, though I only ever got his 1st album. I wanted his other albums but with money being tight and other releases that were biggin my eyes, I just haven't gotten around to getting the others. Does this mean he won't tour with Jazzy anymore?
2. Hmmm...one would assume that it'd be one of those 10-12 track "Best of" albums that may or may not consist of all hits (like the Icon series). I assume it going to be available exclusively through WalMart, at least at first. I've hope there's some rare and unreleased trax or pictures tied to the "project." Better yet, maybe it can be something FP's camp has partnered with them on so there's a reason to pick it up. Good find! We'll have to keep our eyes open on this.
3. I don't know how I feel about reading that. LOL
4. I like that Gershwin tune...but I can't say I'm crazy about this version. I was in the musical Crazy For You back in the 90's and that's how I was introduced to it. CIARA - And I Goodies (2004) Ciara is one of those artists who is talented but more than half of her music is "eh"....but once in awhile, she gets it right. This is one of those moments.
5. This is adorable. It makes wanna be a parent...which is not something I often want to be at this phase in my life...LOL
6. IMMATURE - I Wanna Know You That Way On Our Worst Behavior (1992) I busted out Immature first album for the 1st time in a long time. I didn't even know they made a video for this song!!
7. Really? I like Letterman and Kimmel but I almost never watch them. I'm not a fan of Leno or Fallon. I put Craig Ferguson in the middle of those clumps but Letterman is the only I'd go out of my way to watch. It'll be interesting to see how much of Arsenio's original formula will be in the new show. He's outspoken and spontaneous. That's a given. I'm just curious if we can expect some of the silly skits, unannouonced surprises, the Dog Pound with their crappy seats, french kissing Diana Ross, etc...lol. He had a wide variety of guests but also give Hip-Hop and black personalities a mainstream stage that they weren't going to find anywhere else. The difference is, back then, entertainment (for the most part) was better. Seeing JJ+FP, LL, Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, Das EFX, Naughty, Tribe, Fu-Shcnicks, Latifah, Hammer, PE, Lyte, KRS-One, S-N-P, 2Pac, TLC, BIIM, En Vogue is completely different from seeing Niki Minaj, Waka Flaka, etc. Hopefully he'll put a Monique spin on things and support non-mainstream legends just as much as the current entertainers.
8. I've been waiting on this news since I was 14. To me, Arsenio is the best to ever do it. His ability to be crazy and spontaneous is 2nd to none. He pushes the envelope without going too far. He has something that none of the stuffy or cheezy late night hosts have. Just YouTube his stuff and you'll realize he's nothing like Letterman, Kimmel, Fallon, Leno, etc. Plus, he single handedly brought Hip-Hop culture to late night TV. Without him, Hip-Hop, R-N-B, and black entertainers would have NEVER gotten the shine they did on such a mainstream platform. I can't wait to see his return!
9. He's been doing this all year. I currently can't get pix up on my computer so I haven't been able to post any on Thursdays...which sucks. I actually took a "collection picture" 2 but the rules once stated you had to be in the pic. I tried setting the time on my camera and couldn't get me and all of my collection in at once....LOL. I need to get back into this contest! CONGRATS!!
10. The movie has definetly done it's job and put FP back on top. With his performances, his new "Summertime" rap, and MIB3, things just feel good at the moment.
11. Brakes, this is HILARIOUS. Nice work!! I laughed out loud quite a few times. I also like that the kind of comedy you put in there also also funny to those who are'nt aware of your music. Truly funny. Don't rush the applesauce!
12. "I Need Love" just reminded me how Marky channeled LL for his own joint... MARKY MARK + THE FUNKY BUNCH - Make Me Say Ooh Music For The People (1991) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWVZZt9ieZU
13. LL COOL J - I Need Love Bigger And Deffer (1987) I'm listening to Bigger And Deffer for the 1st time in awhile. Such a classic...
14. I was never in to Canibus so I could be wrong, but wasn't he a freestyler in his prime? He's known best for battling LL which made me think he was an emcee who was no stanger to battling. This video didn't really show that? What was his strength? It's cool 2 know your strength and excell at that, but lets remember that back in the 80's, FP made dope music, was a freestyling beast PLUS he brought comedy. The standards and flexibility simply isn't what it used 2 be.
15. I've always been a fan of battling over a beat so watching this was a little painful. I had to skip around because it didn't keep my attention. I've never been a Canibus fan but I wanted him to win just because I knew his name and only ever heard of the Dizaster. Canibus just had no flow. it was like choppy spoken word. Some of his shots should have come AFTER hearing Dizaster rhyme. Dizaster has some flow. I like his mid range but when he starts screaming in his upper range he sounded like a girl. He definitely came with it on some of those shots. It seems like Canibus' lyrics fit on an album, not a battle.
16. Ahhh, it's good to see an old but familar name on the board. Welcome back!
17. JUSTIN YOUNG w/ COLBIE CALLIAT - Puzzel Pieces ? (2012) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yupXf0nDbzM&feature=g-all-u I love this song. It's amazing when a couple can come up with a song this beautiful and it be a natural thing. Sorry Beyonce and Jay-Z, your collabos have nothing on this...lol
18. ANNIE - Tomorrow Annie: The 30th Anniversary Cast Recording (2007) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_dBep_55mI I'm getting read for rehearsal. And no, I'm not playing Annie. This time!
19. DJ JAZZY JEFF + FRESH PRINCE - Jazzy's Groove And In This Corner... (1989) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zGtIopwiYc
20. Back in 1991, the Fresh Prince contributed a bar to a humanitarian song for the troops serving in dessert storm. The song was composed by musical legend David Foster. It features Fresh Prince, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Luther Vandross, Brenda Russell, Little Richard, Pointer Sisters, Celine Dion, Peter Cetera, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Nelson, Kathy Mattea, Warrant, Warren Wiebe, Garth Brooks, and Randy Travis. To the best of my knowledge, the song was written while these artists and other celebrities came together for the recording. However, The Fresh Prince wrote his own bar for the song, as there are different sung lyrics on the demo version sang by Warren Wiebe. FP wasn't on set for the video but shot his own part separately that got spliced in the video. I figured that the song is unknown by most people and forgotten by the rest. I wanted to dig it back up for everyone. Once again, the 'Prince is doing something huge for Hip-Hop by being the first emcee to have solo vocals on a pop colaboration like this. I could be wrong, but I can't think of anything like this that featured an emcee. Here's the video. Hang in there, you'll see him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRrAzDbYc68
21. Heck!Freakin'!Yes! A time when Hip-Hop was dope and most of the artists making music had skillz. Even the ones I didn't like so much back in the day, I like them a bit more now as I go back and revisit their stuff. Yo! MTV Raps was a huge part of my growing up. The reason shows like that don't exist anymore is because true school Hip-Hop almost never breaks its way to the mainstream. I can't wait to watch this!
22. Maybe if you promise to mail people free slices of pizza if they like your page, it will increase the activity on the page.
23. I just about lost it when I saw the news. I was just dying to get 2 the board!! http://globalgrind.com/music/will-smith-dj-jazzy-jeff-summertime-remix-new-music 10 Artists Who Love To Talk That Talk (LIST) Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff "Summertime (Remix)" (NEW MUSIC) Posted 10 hours 23 min ago by Brittany Lewis for Global Grind Staff Advertisement It's almost officially summer summer summertime, and Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff have remixed their seasonal classic 21 years later. Will Smith kicks off the new track with the same classic intro, but switches it up by noting, "Here it is the groove slightly transformed." The groove is slightly transformed, but the most noticeable difference is Will Smith's voice. Two decades later, Will's voice is filled with much more bass and definitely smoother than it was in 1991. The remix is off Jazzy Jeff and Mike Boogie's new mixtape Summertime 3. The "Summertime (Remix)" will be available for download Monday, June 11. So in the meantime, sit back, relax and enjoy, because it's summertime! Take a listen to the remix below and tell us what you think! Read more: http://globalgrind.com/music/will-smith-dj-jazzy-jeff-summertime-remix-new-music#ixzz1xFFGbI12
