  1. Code Red was an interesting era. The album was riddled with other producers (all good...but why not use Jazzy since A Touch of Jazz was becoming more established). Jazzy was creating the music in Philly and then sending them to FP in California. They promoted the album themselves pretty well. They did award shows and other performance shows plus interviews...together and separate. Jive did an okay job promoting (tho' they certainly didn't bend over backward for JJ+FP). It was really the Dr. Dre/Snoop Doggy Dogg dominated video and radio that didn't support them much. EVERYONE was releasing albums with explicit lyric stickers on them and recording with a harder edge. Some legit music and some phony studio-gangsta mess. Both of them were dedicated for JJ+FP but also distracted with their individual careers finally blossoming. Not to mention The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. FP was starting a family while heading towards divorce.
  2. They whole thing is ridiculous. If they did in fact want a DJ to play a bunch of Lil' Wayne and Drake garbage, they should have gotten a top 40 DJ. We all know Jazzy spins all kinds of stuff from all era which rarely touch on what is currently "hot." But even if you put him in a box you would expect him to play true school and old school Hip-Hop. If the event was a charity, it's for a cause much greater than entertainment so who has the right to be picky about what is being play PLUS pull a Hip-Hop legend off of a stage?! The whole thing is just stupid. Things like this should happen to obnoxious, explicit "entertainers"...not a down-to-earth legend.
  3. This is ridiculous. It makes you wonder what he was playing. I'm assuming they wanted him to spin top 40 garbage. I'm sure the crowd was enjoying themselves too. This is a charity for God's sake! During a tribute!! -------------------------------------------------------------- DJ Jazzy Jeff Booted Off Stage Mid-Set During DJ AM Tribute Legendary party-rocker DJ Jazzy Jeff was stopped mid-performance in Las Vegas last night while DJing a charity event in honor of his former partner, the late DJ AM. According to reports, the management at Surrender nightclub were "unhappy" with the musical selections Jeff was playing and made the decision to pull him mid-set. Jeff later tweeted about the incident, saying "Funny when people r having a good time but management isn't..can u say...The Right Party at the Wrong Place...F--- it...AM Lives." Known for being both one of the most universally respected and beloved DJ's, Jeff was donating his time in honor of his late friend, who held a DJing residency at Rain nightclub in Vegas prior to his death. Unfortunately this is not the first time that Jeff has been forcibly removed from the stage while DJing. Jeff was similarly disrespected during the Kansas City stop on the Bacardi B-Live tour in June of 2009 when event organizers complained about his hype man Skillz' alleged usage of "gang signs" while Jeff played Biz Markie's unrequited love anthem "Just a Friend." Jeff has yet to comment about the incident (beyond his tweet).
  4. You know what, he is getting better. His voice and the way he uses it is much better. The beat is really good too. He's definitely developing as an artist. Unless FP drops a rap tho' I'm still not picking this up. And I'm definitely still annoyed that he keeps using the Fresh Prince name. Sure, that's your uncle...but that's not u.
  5. Check it out... http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=106344815#pm_cmp=vid_OEV_P_P
  6. YO YO - You Don't Try To Play Me Out Make Way For the Motherload (1991) This is taking me back...
  7. I was just looking around online and stumbled upon this amateur remixer/producer. If you go to his website he has TONS of remixes and blends that he's done. I've listened to nearly every song on his site and he syncs up every song perfectly...to the point that u think the artist is singinging/rapping their song right over the instrumental. What's even better is that when he creates collabos he'll take songs that have a similar meaning when it comes to the subject matter. I think alot of you will like this guy. Check him out... http://www.djxtreme.co.uk/
  8. AALIYAH - Time (Unreleased) (Originally recorded but never finished for her self-titled album) (2001) It was 9 years yesterday that she left us. R.I.P.
  9. RICH CRONIN - Hey Radio Billion Dollar Sound (2008)
  10. Visqo, I'm talking about Usher's "Versus"...a 9 track album that came out yesterday. It features JUST the bonus trax off the new deluxe version of Raymond V Raymond. 1 or 2 of them are good. The rest are trendy, radio-ready urban pop. The only good thing about it is his voice. I've never been so disappointed in one of my favorite artists like this. MC LYTE - Ice Cream Dream Mo' Money Soundtrack (1992) The Mo' Money Soundtrack is one of my top favorite soundtracks of all time. MC Lyte over a new jack swing beat with R-N-B vocals on the hook. Early 90's perfection.
  11. MC LYTE - Everyday Bad As I Wanna B (1996) This album was always one of my favorites. Jermaine Dupri brings out the best in people....which is why Usher's new EP is trash.
  12. MC Lyte is a legend. Most of you know that and those who don't have the chance to download a free mixtape from her. The mixtape features new and recent music from her that's unreleased or scarce. Real Hip-Hop by an emcee with skillz!! Don't pass this up!! http://www.duboseent.com/duboseMusic.html
  13. MC LYTE - Exposure MC Lyte Mixtape (2010) Every log onto your Myspace. MC Lyte just gave out a free download to a mixtape containing trax she's recorded over the past few years. If she isn't already a Friend, add her so u don't miss out on this.
  14. I really like hearing her with that kind of sound.
  15. KATY PERRY - Teenage Dream Teenage Dream (2010) I haven't been this excited for a pop album in forever. I'm gonna go pick this up before I really start my day.
  16. I like that you chose this song. But agree, something is off just a little. I think the vocals need to be a bit louder in comparison with the production. She has a whispery singing delivery so I'm not sure how easy that is to match up. The beat fits really well for most of the song. She does some interesting things with how she sings on this so that has to prove a little bit of a challenge. Do u plan to rework this or should I download this now?
  17. I like that better than half the songs on Exit 13 but that track still isn't very inspired. Exit 13 was his worst album in my opinion. UMC'S - Time To Set It Straight Unleashed (1993) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJAWbkqR8UU
  18. BROWNSTONE - If You Love Me From The Bottom Up (1994) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0C5Nb_BJC88&feature=fvst
  19. Here's something for R-N-B fans. I'm so happy they are back. Brownstone is one of the best to ever do it. I love reading how Brownstone is back, TLC wants to do a new album, SWV is back together, En Vogue is touring with Dawn back in place. 90's R-N-B is in demand for the grown and sexy. Some of these new R-N-B guys are alright but they are missing the love and romance that 90's R-N-B mastered. ------------------------------------ http://www.bvbuzz.com/2009/10/01/michael-jackson-proteges-brownstone-return/ Back In Stride: Michael Jackson Proteges Brownstone Return By Jawn Murray on Oct 1st 2009 7:11AM Filed under: Exclusives, Interviews, Music Best known for hits like 'If You Love Me,' 'Grapevine' and '5 Miles To Empty,' 90s R&B trio Brownstone is back together and performing again. With founding members Nicci Gilbert and Maxee Maxwell and a new member, Teisha Brown, the group has began performing spot dates and is in the studio recording new music. "I'm very excited because I know the fans are very happy. I'm excited to see our fans again because we missed them terribly," said Maxwell. Gilbert added: "It's a tremendous blessing to still be relevant after not having a record out in over ten years!" Brownstone recently performed at the Afr'Am Festival in Norfolk, Virginia along with Salt-N-Pepa, Keith Sweat and Bell Biv Devoe. They also opened for Maze featuring Frankie Beverly in Chattanooga, Tenn. In addition, Brownstone has performed recent dates in Chicago, Illinois and Mobile, Alabama and Maxwell said the crowd response has been overwhelming. "The fan reaction is very positive! They are welcoming towards us, which is so nice to see and feel. It lets us know we were very well missed, which is a blessing in my eyes," she expressed. Newcomer Brown said joining the respected R&B collective has been a dream come true for her. "I am beyond elated to be a part of a group that I absolutely adored from the very beginning of their career. It is a surreal feeling to know that I am sharing my craft and my gift with a group that I was a huge fan of," she shared. Neither founding member Mimi Doby (who left the group in 1995) and nor her replacement Kina Casper (who is now a rock singer) wanted to participate in the Brownstone reunion. Regardless, Gilbert emphasized that Brown has been the perfect addition to the group. "Teisha brings so much to the group! She's a Detroit girl straight from the church, so we will be sangin' during these shows and on this record for sure," said Gilbert. Brownstone Making their debut in 1995 on Michael Jackson's MMJ Music record label via Sony, the group's first CD 'From the Bottom Up' sold one million copies. The group released two other CDs 'Still Climbing' and 'All For Love' before breaking up in 2000. Brownstone intends to release a single before Valentine's Day and a new CD early next year. "We are also working on some other exciting projects in the near future," Gilbert closed. ------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.bvbuzz.com/2010/08/19/brownstone-singer-nicci-gilbert-married/?icid=main|main|dl2|link4|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bvbuzz.com%2F2010%2F08%2F19%2Fbrownstone-singer-nicci-gilbert-married%2F Newlyweds: Brownstone Singer Nicci Gilbert Gets Married By Jawn Murray on Aug 19th 2010 12:00PM Newlyweds: Brownstone Singer Nicci Gilbert Gets Married Brownstone lead vocalist Nicci Gilbert got married on July 10, 2010 and BV Buzz is the first to obtain these exclusive images of the R&B star and her husband, retired boxer Leonard M. 20. I just listened to the album online. I do like it over all but I wouldn't call it a classic. I mean, when is the last time we heard and album in Hip-Hop that was a classic in recent years? The beats are above average. I didn't listen to the lyrics to closely but over all I would call it "a good rap album"...especially to today's commercial standards. He also seems to balance himself between was is credible Hip-Hop and was is popular rap music. I only buy certain albums brand new. I'll probably pick this one up used online when it's a few month old and cheap...lol. I'm glad u posted this because after "Make It Rain" being a huge pile of garbage I wasn't going out of my way to give Fat Joe another listen.
  21. Yeah, I'd love to hear him do the same. It'd be interesting to see how different their opinions would be on their own music.
  22. I'm sure that when they look at their own albums, they are thinking about much more than the music. They are thinking about the process and what they were going thru' personally. I recently got this book that has vague album reviews in it. The gave many of the JJ+FP albums rating a bit lower than how I view them. But they gave Code Red one star. I have no idea what they were thinking. In most cases the album stars represented the success of the album and nothing more.
  23. Yeah, I was hoping he'd at least talk about Willennium and Lost + Found. Maybe Floetry's 1st album too.
  24. Ahhhh...I actually clicked the link. I thought u meant just the 2 paragraphs u cut and pasted...lol. Yeah, this article is excellent.
  25. ROSARIO DAWSON + ADAM PASCAL - Without You RENT (1996/Movie 2005) I love this song. Even if musicals aren't your thing, I recommend watching RENT...the movie or the final broadway performance. It'll change your life.
