  14. My Interview w/ rapcommunity.de in english Hello, Da Ace. first of all, thank you for taking some time for this interview! Can you introduce yourself to those who don't know you? No problem, it’s a pleasure doing the interview with you. Well for those unaware of who I am, I am DaAce... a 20 year old UNSIGNED, underground, conscious, positive MC from TX. just trying to show the world my music. What made you start rapping and what motivated you to become a MC? See I’ve always been impressed with the art of rhyming and the way certain hip hop musicians would bless the mic but I never considered becoming an MC cause I was just a fan of the art form and my main focus at the time was basketball. As time went on in high school it came across me a couple times to experiment with the microphone to see what I could do but it basically died out but then one time on a basketball road trip coming back from a game everyone in the back of the bus would cipher up and it was almost mandatory that you freestyle whether you were wack or not. So it came around to me and I didn’t do to bad but everyone was impressed cause it was my first time ever freestyling. So now I was comfortable with freestyling and I would then take part in hallway ciphers at school and anywhere people were rhyming. I then bought me a $10 microphone and I began recording little mixtape flows and freestyles here and there and I'd let my friends get the tape and they would just spread it out and I slowly started getting a buzz due to all the positive feedback I was receiving. So I continued to record more and more flows and freestyles and my name just started to expand from my high school to other schools in the city. My motivation to continue doing this is for the pioneers who paved the way for so many musicians such as myself because too many times in this day in age they are overlooked and unrecognized for their contributions to hip hop. Who influenced you? And who were your idols? I have many influences ranging from Rock N Roll to Jazz to R&B to Hip Hop. I'll keep the list short though. Let's see.... Curtis Mayfield, Lauryn Hill, Jimi Hendrix, Earth Wind & Fire, The Temptations, Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis and John Coltrane cover all my influences outside of Hip Hop. In Hip Hop I'd say KRS-ONE, Public Enemy, Big L (r.i.p.), The Juice Crew (every member), Arrested Development, Brand Nubian, Nas, Grandmaster Caz and Melle Mel. My idols in music are Curtis Mayfield, Lauryn Hill and KRS-ONE. Curtis Mayfield was beyond talented and I still don’t believe that we are even recognizing how truly great he was. Lauryn Hill is flat out phenomenal from her MC skills to her vocal range to her lyrics to her guitar play. You just can't run out of compliments to how skilled and talented she is. Now onto KRS-ONE aka The Blastmaster aka The Teacher. What he's done over his career is remarkable. His intelligence on the mic is unmatched and his style will never be duplicated. He has influenced me so much and I can not even explain how much education I have taken from him. I mean who would you run to if you’re a student of hip hop looking for answers and guidance... The Teacher. Your new mixtape just came out! Please, tell us a little something about it! Well it’s titled "One Day It Will Come" in reference to my dreams of becoming a global MC who will spread a positive message to the world. The mixtape itself is 21 written flows and 2 freestyles making it 23 tracks over some classic 90's and 2000 hip hop beats. It’s basically an internet release and it’s free to everyone. I made the decision to make it free so everyone can access it because I’m just looking to expand my name across the world with the music I provide. Will you be releasing an album sometime in the near future? And what are your goals for this year? My album is currently in the works and let me be the first one to tell you... it’s looking fantastic. It’s coming along a lot better than I ever anticipated. Its going to be ranging from 18-20 tracks all produced by me and its like a blend and mixture of all my musical influences and my self interpretations on life and hip hop put into one. There is no set date for the release of it but I am hoping that it will be completed by spring around late March to mid April. The title of my cd will be named T.R.I.P(the righteous intellectual poet). Trip is my nickname since birth and all my friends acknowledge me by "Trip" and I gave it a meaning so I could use it in a musical reference. Haha It’s funny that you ask about my goals for this year because no more than a few weeks ago I wrote down that my goal for 06 was to push my music and get it heard by the world and I've accomplished that within the month. So I will say that my goal now is to perform to the world cause Im really looking forward to seeing how my music will progress in a global aspect and to hopefully get signed by a label who supports and understands real hip hop. In your track 'Pet vs. Owner' you dissed Bow Wow because he claimed that Will Smith isn't 'real'! At the same time though you said 'I'm not down with the whole beef/diss stuff'! So, what made you come out with this track and stand up for Will Smith? Well first off I have the up most respect for Will Smith for what he's accomplished not just musically but as a person. The diss came about after I read Bow Wow's comments towards Will and they were very unacceptable to me. I asked myself how can someone so young disrespect a man who's paved the way for him. It’s like biting the hand that feeds you. Another thing is, I mention in the diss "rule #1 never diss a pioneer who paved the way for so many years as the mc..." and that statement to me was to clarify the rules of hip hop so that everyone can get an understanding as to why I’m doing this. So I’m taking a stand not just for my personal interest but for Hip Hop. Many will agree with me that the game has evolved so negative and money oriented over the past 5 years that’s its downright ugly as of now. So I’m not seeking a beef with Bow Wow it just so happens that he was the one that broke a rule of Hip Hop and I wasn’t going to allow it from an MC's standpoint. What is your point of view on today's Hip Hop Scene and all the beef that's going on? Today’s Hip Hop scene is terrible in my eyes. There's no positive hit records, no unity, no peace, it’s just a lot of trends that are being overloaded into people head's. Don’t get me wrong, there’s room for all types of music but when a certain type is being publicized and played 24/7 the imbalance of music causes many problems. Hip Hop has gone from having fun, stop the violence, unity, eliminate drugs, get your education to bragging about violence, selling drugs, and material items that have no value. To me the quality of music has fallen off so much and the beef's these rappers engage in is nonsense. The ego's and individualism amongst these rappers is insane. If you have a beef with a certain individual the best thing is to meet man to man, discuss why you hold a grudge against one another and come out to a reasonable solution. These 2, 3, 4 year long disses and vendetta's with these rappers is only hurting the game more than anything. Ok, let's get back to you! Who would you want to work with? Whether production-wise or working with a rapper? Oh man this is a good question. Id love to make a track or even an album with DJ Premier behind the production. Other producers I'd like to work with are 9th Wonder (of Little Brother) Stoupe (of Jedi Mind Tricks), Pete Rock and Jazzy Jeff. Now as of musicians Id love to work with, KRS-ONE, The Roots, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Lord Finesse, Nas and Del The Funkee Homosapien to keep the list short. And now some simple questions! Here's a few and all you gotta do is tell us what pops up into your mind! Greatest Goal: Achieving My Dreams Fans: The Backbone of Music USA: Too Rich and Powerful for Its own good Fav. Rapper: KRS-ONE Girls: aint nothing but trouble... haha naw id say... Beautifull Thanks a million for the interview! And I hope that sometime we'll be able to interview you again! Do you have any last words for the people of Rapcommunity.de? Oh no problem, anytime. And people all over the world... my mixtape "One Day It Will Come" is FREE, don’t be afraid to listen to it or spread it to your friends and family. I am open for offers from labels because I’m unsigned and I can be contacted at http://www.myspace.com/daaceakatrip (recommended) and www.pimpdaddypoint.com on the message board’s thank you!
