  1. I got this from AOL Newz... --- Latifah Gets Welfare, First-Look Deals Posted Apr 12th 2006 5:08PM by Martha Fischer Did you know that Queen Latifah has co-owned her own production company for 17 years? You did? Oh. Well, it's news to me. Flavor Unit, which started out in music management but has since produced films including Bringing Down the House and Beauty Shop, has signed a first-look deal with Rogue Pictures, the incredibly active genre arm of Focus Features. According to the terms of the deal, Flavor Unit will produce films (with "modest" budgets) through both Focus and Rogue, with the goal of making about three every year; already on the table for the company are Welfare Queen, Reality Sucks (yes, that's a parody of reality TV), and the obviously awesome Horror in the Hamptons which, according to Latifah, is "about a bunch of 16-year-olds chopping each other up." Oh hell yes! The first product of the collaboration will be the aforementioned Welfare Queen, a based-on-a-true-story drama about a woman named Dorothy Woods, who "scammed the welfare system out of a fortune." The film will star Latifah as Woods, and the script is current being written.
  2. LL Cool J is truely one of the greatests of time. He's pioneered Hip-Hop and influenced nearly anyone who's ever touched a mic. He's adapted over the years and always picked the peices shortly after a time where some say he may have dropped the ball. In the days where commerical success often means u have 2 be phoney and untalented...and where old schoolers have either given up or struggled 2 keep on with jacked up (or no) record deals...LL still outshines nearly everyone. The new album has a retro kinda feel 2 it. Some of it is a bit of old with the new...other trax have a 90's feel 2 them. And while there are alot of guests on the album, they rarely take attention from LL would can hold any album on his own. When u are tired of the music that lacks intellegence (Lil' Jon), music that is only being made 2 make money (Jay-Z) and music that is tasteless and disrespectful (Eminem)...LL always offers an alternative. Let's break it down... IT'S LL AND SANTANA - This high energy joint brings the old with the new. LL's presence on the track is dripping with swagga. Just classic aggresive LL. Juelz Santana is on the higher end of 2day's commercial rappers. So this bridges the younger and radio fans over 2 the Living Legend. CONTROL MYSELF - The beat is straight old school presented in a new school kinda way. Thank Jermaine Dupri (who's old school roots are always overlooked) for that. The fact that he revisists his "Going Back To Cali" flow is genious. Jennifer Lopez supplys the addictive hook. This is LL reaching out 2 the ladies in the club. Y'all have heard this...movin' on. FAVORITE FLAVOR - This definitly has a mid-90's feel 2 it. It sounds alot like that Mary J. Blige 'My Life' kinda vibe. LL is laidback on this one. Just a R-N-B heavy love joint. Just dope. They gotta release this 4 the summertime!! FREEZE - This is the first time LL has dipped in 2 soul on this level. Some people may not like the slow tempo...but it's a totally new thing 4 me. I love it. The slow beat mixed with LL's slightly rushed raps is just cool 2 me. Lyfe brings that southern soul brotha vibe. Another love joint. It grew on me quick. BEST DRESS - It looks like LL and Jamie Foxx mended their wounds. Just 5 years ago they were beefing after doing Any Given Sunday. We'll, this Neptunes joint is a classy retro-heavy song. Another one 4 the ladies. It has LL persuading a female 2 leave her man who isn't treating her right. PRESERVE THE SEXY - This b-level joint has some fire 2 it. Teairra Mari hasn't really proven herself when it comes 2 music...but she kinda takes on the role that LeShawn would be if she waz on the album. As the song goes on, she sings a lil' more instead of the rap/sung style. This song is just about being on top of your game. LL is right at home when it comes 2 his flow on this one. WHAT YOU WANT - Man, i don't like Freeway at all. But i love this song. Lots of energy on this one. This track brings out classic LL. Another joint 2 help u remember who is the king. The interaction with Freeway is cool...but so many more emcees deserve 2 be lyrically beside him instead. I'VE CHANGED - Man, this one is dope. Trackmasters came out of the woodwork 2 give us a real good beat on this. It's got some tension 2 it that fits perfect with the lyrics. LL talks about losing his girl and how he tries 2 get her back even tho' he's got some obsticals in the way. Ryan Toby (of City High...and from the Big Willie Style album) is on the hook. This isn't his typical appearance tho'...he has this old school soul kinda touch 2 his vocals. I can totally relate 2 this song...it's just dope. OOH WEE - LL gets Ginuwine 2 back him up here. The beat is really smooth and Ginuwine just takes it 2 the next level. This might be another love song...but i can't say that i'm getting tired of them at all. Just dope. This kinda sounds like a late 90's track 2 me. #1 FAN - This kinda has a late 90's feel 2. It's a slick Hip-Hop beat with a dash of a latin style thrown in2 the mix. LL's delievery is a sing-song-rap kinda style. I love it. DOWN THE AISLE - OOooooohhhhh weeeeee!!!! This is so smooth. It's a slick R-N-B beat with a mellow tempo groove. The lyrics are very deep and personal. Half of this album is about love, and each love song has a different approach 2 it. This is the climax of it all. How many emcees and rappers can pour their heart out about getting married. 112 puts their best foot forward. Over the years, i've kinda outgrown them, but this is a step back 2 where they should be. Just amazing. WE'RE GONNA MAKE IT - I love this song. If u are gonna do a fly Hip-Hop/Gospel track...there's only a few people u can get on board 2 keep it contemporary...and Mary Mary would be one of those groups. LL comes with straight 2 the point inspirational lyrics. Every bar has more heart and experience in it that what most rappers put in their entire albums....or their entire library of music. Dope...period. SO SICK (REMIX) - I love the original...and even tho' they abandon all the things that made the original song dope, they do it justice. It took me a few listens 2 realize this. It has a early/mid 90's vibe 2 it Rough, yet a lil' smooth. Just a good remix. All in all, i love this album. Yes, i am bias. I've grown up on LL and love every album he's ever done. Of course i'm gonna favor him since he's bring positive lyrics and dosen't cuss (anymore). And i'm also madly in love with someone in my life right now...so that dosen't hurt either. But even if that wazn't the case. The sound and vibe of the album is unlike any other album released in years. Every lyric is dope and LL is flawless on the mic. Do yourself a favor and check the album. Most places still have it for $9.99 and $11.99 this week.
  3. NE-YO + LL COOL J - So Sick (Remix) Todd Smith (2006)
  4. Jay-Z annoyes the crap outta me. 2 this day, i can't respect or grasp the fact that he's heading Def Jam. When u think Def Jam, u think of the legends like LL Cool J and Public Enemy. Jay-Z has only done like 15 good songs since his 1st album. How is this overrated commercial rapper gonna knock people like Chuck D, LL, and FP just cuz they are getting up in their years. They are still in the limelight and doing their thing on different levels. They paved the way so Jay-Z's lazy, uncreative butt could do what he's doing right now. LL needs 2 rip him ina diss track...but that'll never happen since he's staying away from battling and since Jay-Z is running things at Def Jam. What a joke. About the album, i think it's better than The DEFinition. The production is slightly better and had a retro feel. He still brings up upbeat stuff 4 the clubs, but he's much mellower on this album. The DEFinition had way 2 many beats that were just tossed 2gether. These beats aren't as thick as i'd like, but they are still good, none the less. There is a lil' more 2 them than what The DEFinition had. It's far better than any other Hip-Hop or Rap albums coming out at the moment...and when u released an album just a year and a half ago, it dosen't always have 2 be up 2 parr. That's how Nelly and Jay-Z have built their careers. If u release an album nearly ever year, it dosen't have 2 be that strong cuz u live strictly off the hype.
  5. The Millenium Collection The Very Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers Craig David Born To Do It $4.99(Used) (Reccomended) - i don't have this...but i almost bought it last week. Bob Marley is a legend. Westside Connection Terrorist Threats - I passed on this one. I like Ice Cube....but until i find this CD for like $2 i wont' be checkin' 4 it. Marques Houston MH - I love this album...every single song is dope. LL Cool J G.OA.T. - I like the masculine energy on this one. He cusses a bit more than i want from LL, but still a dope album. It got me thru' alot when it 1st came out. I'm listening 2 his new album now...u should have gotten that instead. I don't know if i'd say it's better or not...but it's good. The worse thing u can do is listen 2 other people's opinions...make up your own. Will Smith Big Willie Style - A dope album. Just straight rappin'...a dope comeback. I couldn't get this CD outta my stereo forever. I can't believe it too, u this long 2 get it (almost 9 years!!) Master P MP Da Last Don - Master P has never been good. I never even considered picking up any of his stuff. Ice Cube Greatest Hits - I've been putting off getting this album 4ever. Mostly cuz i have most of the trax on it. When it come 2 hardcore Hip-Hop...Ice Cube is amoungst the best. 6. I waz 13 or 14 when this 1st aired. I taped it and watched it over and over and over and over again. Classic JJ+FP. They've always been in their prime.
  7. Happy Easter!! I got 2 spend tyme with the family...and watch my Alvin + The Chipmunks video with one of my friends...ha ha. It waz nice, chill kinda day. Even better, the girl i like (alot) texted me 2day and said a lil' something that's a really good sign...ha ha.
  8. I can't believe Lost + Found has the lead...but this is the board speaking i guess.
  9. RUN-DMC - Hollis Crew (Krush-Groove 2) (self-titled) (1984)
  10. I could feel some of the energy u had just readin' that. Very cool stuff.
  11. Good 2 see someone else checkin' L.O.N.S. CYPRESS HILL - Never Know Till Death Do Us Part (2004)
  12. Very cool. I like 2 see emcees pull attention 2 stuff like this. They have so much power and most of them don't use is properly or know what they have going 4 them. People in Hip-Hop have eyes on them at all times, u think more of them would shed light on issues like violence, drugs, AIDS, homelessness, etc. Idiots like G-Unit glorify it stuff like guns and add 2 the problem...but people like Pras address issues like homelessness and offer inspiration and solutions. Props 2 him 4 that.
  13. DANIEL POWTER - Bad Day (self titled) (2006)
  14. MARIAH CAREY - Don't Forget About Us (Quentin Shelter Anthem Mix) Import CD Single - Emancipation (2005) p.s. Jonny + Brakes...i love those songs!!
  15. That's what i'm talking about. When i say stuff like that, some people on this board say i'm living in a dream world and being way 2 picky...and stuck in the days of old. But those same people are gonna read this and agree with it. Wake up...commerical Rap music is mostly empty trash filled with talk that is just poison 2 the soul. All this gun-carrying, ego maniacs need 2 realize they suck and fans need 2 demand more from who they listen 2.
  16. HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! I hate when people do that!! I'm glad 2 hear i'm not the only person who has this happen 2 them. For awhile i waz thinking that the universe waz playing a sick joke on me cuz this happens on my answering machine regularly.
  17. Who knows tho'...i bet alot of those artists could have boxsets being released...or even remastered albums. Either way, u can find that stuff online and in used record stores. I edited the list 2 the stuff i need and printed it out 4 when i got CD digging.
  18. I love Nick Cannon...ha ha. I'm just a big fan of straigh Hip-Hop...not 2 street...not 2 pop. That's kinda where Nick Cannon fits in. People like FP and LL fit in it as well, but Nick Cannon is closer 2 my age. So 2 see someone who loves Hip-Hop, acting, and just being goofy...i totally identify with him. I love that in this sleazy business of selling out and gimmicks, he just makes music how he wants 2. I love his sound and his lyrics. So anyone who likes feel good music without cussing and negativity should give him a chance.
  19. I used 2 watch the show once in awhile...i liked it, but i never made a point 2 watch every episode. For awhile Fox waz showing reruns at night during the summer and i'd watch it while checking e-mail and the board.
  20. I waz gonna write a review on the album. I'm crazy busy...but i might try 2 do it 2nite. I like the album...i could see where most people on this board would like it without thinkin' it's amazing. People who don't follow LL probably won't feel it...but that's not who the album is 4 anyway.
  21. I don't care WHEN they do MIIIB...i just care that it gets done...and gets done right.
  22. Uhhh....many of his solo singles did better than "Summertime." I'm not saying those songs were better than "Summertime"...but they did better commercially. After all, "Men In Black" broke a record for how much airplay a Hip-Hop or Rap song ever received. I think it's been broken since tho.'
  23. Musically? He easily could. It just depends on how often he wants 2 release music, what vibe he's on while creating albums, and how he and his label wants 2 commit 2 it.
  24. Ash trey...u live in a disillusional world. The word "dope emcee" could never be associated D12. Anyone who carrys a gun and fires it in a public place or in a way 2 threaten someone...is a coward and gets no respect from me. Not that Proof ever got any from me. I say "Rest In Peace" ...and i feel for his family...but it gets no deeper than that.
