  1. I think the Hip-Hop Honors purposely try 2 pick Hip-Hop acts from all eras so it's not just mid-80's artists or early 90's artists, which i think it a good idea. There are a lot of other artists that are better and more consistant then Missy and Snoop but i still think they deserve their shine. Missy is one of Hip-Hop's biggest fans. She loves the old school and incoporates that in her new music. Snoop is the same way. He mixes it with the gangsta stuff he helped put on the map, but the heart of true Hip-Hop is mixed in with his West Coast hood tales. The longer this board holds on2 the idea that JJ+FP will be honored, the longer the wait is gonna be. They'll be honored one year, but realize their are hundreds of acts 2 choose and scheduling conflicts for the biggest boxoffice draw in the world. This might be the show i look forward 2 the most every year. I can't wait.
  2. THE ROOTS - Ital (The Universal Side) Illadelph Halflife (1996) Man, why did The Roots flip their style. Their new stuff is good (4 the most part)...but this early stuff is classic.
  3. THE ROOTS - Section Illadelph Halflife (1996)
  4. Heck yes!! I shamelessly love Quad City!! MC LYTE - When In Love Act Like You Know (1991)
  5. Shakur Estate Moves Against Songs' Sale AP Posted: 2007-07-24 08:23:27 LOS ANGELES (AP) - Tupac Shakur's mother is seeking to prevent his former label, Death Row Records Inc., from selling the late rapper's unreleased recordings as part of a bankruptcy settlement. Afeni Shakur sought an injunction in federal bankruptcy court Friday claiming Death Row was attempting to sell Shakur material that belonged to the rapper's estate. Unreleased recordings should have been turned over to the estate as part of a 1997 agreement with the record label, said attorney Donald N. David, who represents the estate. But during Death Row's bankruptcy proceedings, "it was revealed that an album's worth of unreleased Tupac material was being advertised to potential buyers as the jewel in the crown of the Death Row assets," David said. Afeni Shakur and the company she established, Amur Entertainment, requested an injunction after the label failed to confirm the songs would not be included in the bankruptcy settlement, David said. The court was expected to consider the request within a month when it decides whether to permit the label to release an album with the unreleased tracks to help pay off its debts, David said. A call to Ronald L. Leibow, an attorney representing Death Row in bankruptcy proceedings, was not immediately returned Monday. In the 1990s, Death Row was home to superstar rappers such as Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, as well as Shakur. The label's fortunes - and those of its owner, Marion "Suge" Knight - started to slide when Shakur was shot and killed in 1996 while riding in the passenger seat of Knight's car. The shooting took place after the pair were involved in a fight in a Las Vegas hotel. The attack resulted in Knight being sent to prison for violating his parole. After Shakur's death, Death Row and the rapper's family settled for an undisclosed sum amid allegations that the label had defrauded Shakur, David said. Knight sought bankruptcy protection for himself and the company in April 2006. He claimed debts of more than $100 million in each filing. At the time, Knight estimated personal assets of zero to $50,000. Last month, the rap mogul placed his seven-bedroom, 9 1/2-bath home on the market for $6.2 million as part of his financial overhaul. --------------------------------- Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony to Tour Together TUESDAY JULY 24, 2007 08:00 AM EDT By Caris Davis Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony will co-headline their first tour together this fall. The occasion will mark Lopez's first-ever live concert road trip. The couple, both 38, will perform separate sets of their own material and will also duet together, and each set will include songs in English and Spanish, according to representatives for the duo. Lopez – who was paid more than $1.2 million to perform a 40-minute set at a Russian millionaire's birthday party in April – and Anthony also plan to use their live musical debut together to highlight the problem of childhood obesity in the Latino community. "When I was a kid, we spent most of our time outside visiting in the neighborhood with friends. This is the first generation of kids who are so sedentary and the first whose parents might outlive them," Lopez said in a statement. "We really need to be active in encouraging healthy eating and the joys and fun of exercising." The headliners will donate one dollar from every ticket sold to the ING Run For Something Better, a kids' fitness program that aims to reduce childhood obesity by introducing youngsters to the benefits of running, physical fitness, and healthy lifestyle choices. --------------------------------------------- Kelly Clarkson Apologizes to Clive Davis AP Posted: 2007-07-23 17:14:03 Filed Under: Music NEW YORK (July 23) - Kelly Clarkson has done a lot of talking about reports of a feud with Clive Davis over the direction of her new album, "My December." Now, she's apologizing. Kelly Clarkson's new album, 'My December,' caused tension with her label boss, Clive Davis. The legendary label man is said to have had problems with the rock-heavy songs, which were all co-written by Clarkson. "I want to set the record straight on this by saying that I want my band, my advisors, those close to me and my record label to be one big, tightly knit family," the 25-year-old singer said Monday in a statement posted on her Web site. "Like any family we will disagree and argue sometimes but, in the end, it's respect and admiration that will keep us together." For months, Clarkson has weathered - and also fueled in candid interviews - reports of a battle with Davis, who oversees her record label, RCA, over the direction of "My December," which was released June 26. "A lot has been made in the press about my relationship with Clive," the former "American Idol" said in her statement. "Much of this has been blown way out of proportion and out of context." "Contrary to recent characterizations in the press, I'm well aware that Clive is one of the great record men of all time," her statement said. "He has been a key advisor and has been an important force in my success to date." ------------------------ Britney's Shopping Trip Turns Chaotic -- Cops Called Posted Jul 23rd 2007 6:27PM by TMZ Staff Filed under: Celebrity Justice, Train Wrecks, Britney Spears There was pushing, there was shoving, there was flower crushing -- all because of Britney Spears. Moments ago, all hell broke loose outside of Lisa Kline clothing store in Beverly Hills, as Britney's bodyguard desperately tried to clear a path from her car to the store. According to several on-scene witnesses, a gang of overzealous photogs went wild trying to score a shot of Spears as she bobbed, and, ahem, weaved her way into the place. Witnesses claim that the bodyguard and sea of photogs violently pushed back and forth as Britney and her new assistant tried to dash inside. TMZ was told that LAPD was called, but the crazy scene had already calmed down before they arrived. Cops checked in with Spears at her next stop. No one was reported injured, but there were definitely a few pricey casualties -- including a $4,000 flower bed in front of the store, which was crushed during the melee, and the bodyguard's shirt was torn. Inside the store, Britney didn't seem to be bothered by the mess. Sources told us that she was, "a delight ... she was very sweet." Afterward, the chaos continued as Britney tried to get back to her car. Brit's massive bodyguard plowed a path to her Benz, while the gargantuan beast roared for snappers to move. They did.
  6. "This is the LAST time i let Jada leave the house without checking if she remembered her shoes!! Married life ain't nothing but trouble."
  7. I waz going in2 6th grade. I waz staying at my cousins and we were staying up late watching Hip-Hop music videos shows on basic TV, sneaking out of the house, and playing video games. Life waz good...ha ha. We already loved JJ+FP but when we 1st saw "Summertime" on that Hip-Hop music video show, we were mind-blowin.' From that moment on, JJ+FP waz my favorite Hip-Hop group of all time. That song is still my favorite song and they are still my favorite group. Homebase is the 1st JJ+FP album i got that waz "new." I've been saying for years that Jive needs 2 remaster and re-release all the JJ+FP albums with bonus remixes and b-sides along with more pictures...including a double disc of "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" with the full versions of the songs.
  8. Ha ha...yes. Going by memory, i think this is one of the songs JJ+FP might have been up against when they won either a Grammy or American Music Award for "Summertime." 4give my memory...i waz 12 back then...ha ha.
  9. TRIN-I-TEE 5 : 7 - Listen T57 (2007) Gospel meets clubbanger. Someone could slightly slow down the vocals on "Switch" over this beat. Album drops September 18th!!
  10. LFO - Summergirls (Live) Z100's Jingle Ball '99: All Access Live (1999)
  11. I still need 2 see this. I can't say i waz originally excited 2 see it but EVERYONE i've talked 2 said it waz really good or one of the best movies they've seen in awhile.
  12. I had no desire 2 see Knocked Up. I'm sure i'd laugh at some of it but the style of the humor looked ultimatly distasteful. I can't wait 2 see Chuck + Larry tho.' I'm a HUGE Adam Sandler fan so i'm totally biased on that. I have seen Licensed To Wed and LOVED that movie. I laughed the whole way thru' it and even considered seeing it again b4 it leaves theaters. I've also become a big fan of Mandy Moore's movie...even the ones that are girlly...but don't tell anyone.
  13. That's a good one! BOB MARLEY + GURU - Johnny Was Chant Down Babylon (1999) This album never gets old....a classic.
  14. Yeah, the comedy vibe and the "i'm gonna do the kinda music i wanna do" attitude is probably why i feel flashes of JJ+FP when i listen 2 them.
  15. Ha ha...well, if u look at it that way.... The "It Takes Two" whoo's and yeahs are in "I Wanna Rock" and the original version of "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It." "It's All Good" and "U Saw My Blinker" also share a sample.
  16. FORT MINOR - Where'd You Go (Big Boy Remix) Where'd You Go (Australia CD Single) (2006) I still love this song...the lryics mean even more 2 me now.
  17. I understand why an artist and his team would do this...because official sites can taint the image of an artist and have it look official since a site looks very professional. After all, FP had 2 do it. But at the same time, it seems like this kinda thing would losely be protected by "freedom of speech." Anyways, here's the article from TMZ thru' AOL... --- Usher F**ks With the Wrong Fan Posted Jul 19th 2007 5:27PM by TMZ Staff Filed under: Celebrity Justice, Music Usher Raymond is determined to sanitize all the Usher news around, even if he's got to strong-arm his biggest fan site with legal action in order to keep it that way. But the webmaster of the site tells TMZ she's willing to slug it out in court with her fave R&B star, just to make her point. Erika Jackson, webmaster of usherforever.com, tells TMZ that she's been hit with a full-scale legal blitz from a tag-team of both Usher's personal lawyer and his label's lawyers, and claims that the trouble started earlier this year when she refused to turn her site -- the self-proclaimed "biggest Usher site" on the Internet -- into a sanitized official site. (The legal threats were first reported by the New York Daily News.) Not long after, says Jackson, the lawyers tried to bring the hammer down on her, demanding that she "assign the url usherforever.com" to LaFace Records, Usher's label, because it might confuse fans into thinking that it had an affiliation to Usher. Jackson points out that other sites -- like Usher.net and UsherRaymond.org -- that are closer in name to the singer -- haven't been accused of being "confusing." Usher attacked the media and even fans last week in an open letter to People, saying that speculation about his relationship with fiancee Tameka Foster and the reported firing of his mom as manager were "disturbing." A defiant Jackson says that she won't lay down and that she's prepared to go to court with Usher. Neither Usher's label rep nor his lawyer responded to requests for comment.
  18. I can't agree with that. The bug gets him for a while, then it's back 2 movies...he'll get the bug soon if he isn't already feeling it. I'm actually happy FP isn't gonna be in the video. The fact that a remake exists with a wack emcee on it with weak lyrics is blaphemy. A cameo by the 'Prince would be ever more insulting. It's good 2 see some support coming out 4 the video.
  19. K-OS - Mushaboom (K-Os Mix) Collected (2007)
  20. I have every right to hate music that i think sucks. That doesn't make me a hater. I've heard a few of her singles and cameos and i think she's awful. The regular clashing of our music tastes will have me pass on peeping a link. Thanx tho.' I posted this for those who actually liked her...nothing more, nothing less.
  21. QUEEN LATIFAH - Blonde And Beautiful Harispray Soundtrack (2007) I can't wait 2 see this. My Hip-Hop background loves Queen Latifah and my acting background loves the musical.
  22. I'm surprised the no samples thing is such a big deal 2 so many people here. THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX!! I heard this news recently and i'm glad 2 see it in print. I'm also glad 2 hear he's going for a laidback sound like that and not "The Building Ain't Big Enough." I've always felt that Kel rarely got the proper beats 2 showcase his talent and lryics. But when i heard stuff like "The Definition," he seems right at home.
  23. I just think she's one of the worst female rappers ever. I could care less.
  24. Here's some news i got from AOL on the garbage female rapper. I had no idea her life choices were as bad as her music. -------------------------------------------------------------------- REMY MA UPDATE: Catching A Bad Rap? Posted Jul 15th 2007 10:10PM by Karu F. Daniels Filed under: Entertainment Newswire By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices Remy Ma, who reported to police Saturday evening and was arrested on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, pleaded not guilty on Sunday to attempted murder and other counts in the shooting of 23-year-old galpal Makeda Barnes-Joseph. At her arraignment, a judge granted the prosecution's request for bail to be set at $250,000 for the Grammy Award nominated hardcore rap vixen, who was reportedly in custody at New York's notorious Rikers Island on Sunday morning. According to the 'New York Daily News,' she was released on Sunday after her manager, who identified himself as Big Joe of New Era Management, put up his home as collateral to satisfy a $250,000 bond. Several other reports indicated that Smith and Barnes-Joseph had a violent altercation - resulting in the latter being shot twice in the midsection - after a pizza party early Saturday in which the thick-thighed lyricist accused the young woman of stealing $3000 from her purse. "What hurts me is that when she shot me she went over and dumped the bag," Barnes-Joseph told the paper from her St. Vincen'ts Hospital bed. "She didn't even say, 'Oh, my God, I just shot her.' That's what hurt me so much." She said she had been a close friend of the rapper's for more than a decade. "The fact she would think I would steal from her," said Barnes-Joseph, "it hurts me because I thought she was a friend of mine." The former Terror Squad frontwoman is expected in court next month. Yesterday, the bleached-blonde bang rapper, maintained her innocence. "I didn't shoot my friend!" she reportedly hollered at reporters from the second-floor window of her "modest Cliffside Park, N.J., home," the 'Daily News' reported. "I didn't shoot nobody!" And now her criminal past is coming to light. In 2003, the Grammy Award nominated vixen was charged with threatening Alvin Lewis with a gun in the Bronx building where she used to live. Accusing him of abusing women, she reportedly fired the gun close to his head, but missed. She pleaded guilty in that case to misdemeanor assault, court papers show. Last month, she was arrested in Queens for driving without a license. She has until next month to pay the $75 fine.
