I Am Legend Box Office Predictions?!
TopDawg14 replied to Da Fresh Prince's topic in Will Smith Movies
I expect I Am Legend to do around $45-50 million in the first week and probably finish around $170 million total in the U.S. and over $300 million worldwide. Indpendence Day did $308 million followed by Men In Black which did a little over $250 million. -
My hatred of the Patriots will not lead to say that Brady is the best therefore my vote goes to #18

I think Will is at a crossroads in his life. I think he wants to be the next "Denzel" and that's driving him right now. Plus, the music scene is in a bit of a crisis mode right now. I still think he loves music but I don't think it's his passion right now(and maybe the passion is gone for good). Let's look at his career musically. He's got 4 platinum albums(3 of them went multi-platinum), 5 gold albums and 4 Grammys. Not many other rappers can boast those kind of stats. Those stats are hall-of-fame type stats. In his mind, he doesn't have anything else to prove musically. On the acting side, he's racked up over $4 billion in worldwide box-office sales. He's got 3 Golden Globe and 2 Oscar nominations. I think he won't rest until he wins an Oscar and becomes the biggest movie star of all-time. I think that is what is driving him right now.

AMERICAN GANGSTER: THE OFFICIAL REVIEW Less than one year after what some people say was a less-than-stellar album, Jay-Z returns with American Gangster. The album was loosely based after the Denzel Washington/Russell Crowe hit movie of the same name. Unlike Kingdom Come when Jay focused on other issues, Hov returns to his roots - rhymes about the hustle lifestyle. But this time around, you get the feeling that Jay is conflicted about the lifestyle whereas before he seemed to delight in it. Pray = 8.5/10; A haunting tale of a young hustler wanting success. Backed over a haunting beat and chorus, Jay shines on this track. American Dreamin' = 9/10; using a Marvin Gaye track, Jay rips seamlessly through this lush beat. Hello Brooklyn 2.0 = 0/10; quite possibly the worst Jay-Z track.... EVER. Lil' Wayne does more to destroy the song than the awful beat could ever do. No Hook = 9/10; I like how Jay flows over this apocolyptic beat. Roc Boys = 9.5/10; The horns are what draw me in; Jay's flow is brilliant yet effortless Sweet = 8.5/10; Another track with a 70's type feel to it. I thought Jay could have come a bit harder but pretty good nonetheless. I Know = 8/10; This track has radio play written all over it; another Pharrell-produced track that grows on you; most of his beat will do that to you. Party Life = 7/10; O.K. track; sounds like a filler-track that's still better than most songs out today. Ignorant Sh** = 8/10; Not that much a Beanie Siegel fan but he brings it on this track(using a Isley Bros. track). Say Hello = 8/10; Another breezy 70's type track mixed with a Down South feel; another effortless yet effective flow from Jay. Success = 10/10; The organ over the beat is fire; Jay is at his best on this track; Nas further fans the flames on this heat-seeker. Fallin' = 10/10; Best track on the album Blue Magic = 9.5/10; Another Pharrell track that grows on you and grows on you quick American Gangster = 10/10; Just Blaze brings the hot beat(eerily similar to Show Me What You Got on Kingdom Come) while Jay knocks it out the park. Overall Grade = B+ The album's strength are the last 4 tracks. Would have been an "A" if not for Brooklyn 2.0

OK so as I was listening to American Gangster last night I began wondering if it was better than Kingdom Come. On the whole, I really like American Gangster. The only track that is just unbearable is Hello Brooklyn(feat. Lil Wayne). The beat on Hello Brooklyn was garbage to me and Wayne's verse made it even worse. I skip that selection every time I listen to it. The standout tracks are Pray, American Dreamain', Roc Boys, Success(feat. Nas), Fallin', Blue Magic and American Gangster. Grade = B+ With all of that being said, am I the only one who likes Kingdom Come more than American Gangster?

I thought Jeff sold more but it's cool. I'd rather have creativity and control over the music I make than be a yes-man for some label just so you can sell some records. I'm just waiting for the day when artists give the industry/record labels the finger and do it themselves. You don't need much to make an album and promote it these days with the technology we have today.

THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE THAT.....

I agree that's it's a private thing but that's what happens when you're a superstar. They(the media) did the same thing to Michael Jordan when his sons were playing basketball. This is the life of a superstar. You'll never have private moments once you step outside your home. It's the price of fame. I'm sure Will was cool with it.... he didn't slap any papparazi, did he? LOL.

Here is my concern with the new LL album. I'm beginning to wonder if LL is like that athlete you love that's been in the game too long. You hope that the game hasn't passed him by. I don't think that is the case with LL but the fact that he's even working with 50 suggest that he is reaching.

JAY-Z AMERICAN GANGSTER CONFERENCE CALL!
TopDawg14 replied to DevilsJim89's topic in Caught in the Middle
At first I was kinda so-so on Blue Magic but after a few listens I really like it. Roc Boys drew me in when I heard the horns. -
Advantage: Jigga I don't care what anybody says, Kool Moe Dee murdered LL in their famous battle. LL was the more popular cat at that time so it "appeared" that he won. Moe Dee's verse on "Let's Go" where he dissed LL with "lower, level, lack-luster....". That verse alone won the battle for me but because LL was more popular and had longevity, it was assumed that he won. There are some people who believe that Moe Dee actually won but it didn't appear that way. I give the advantage to Jigga because he's more popular right now... and the fact that he's the better emcee(and this is coming from a dude who's a big LL fan).

It's not that people can't stand to see other people succeed; it has more to do with the fact that 50 Cent has done nothing to uplift the art form. Instead of selling drugs as his hustle, he chose making rap songs as his hustle. It's not about hip-hop(and the culture) for him. It's about making money. I don't have a problem with people wanting to make money but I do have a problem with making money and not having any regard for the music or for the young people. And don't give me this crap about "well he gives money away to charitable organizations". So do drug dealers and money-stealing CEOs but doesn't make the wrongs they do right. Bottom line is that 50's music is not good music. It is full of violence, misogyny, and poison. Lost is when you hide behind the freedom of speech/ Well sure you're free to do it , but what it mean to do it/ Did you need to do it; Did you mean to do it/ Do you take time to think 'bout the seeds you ruined - Will Smith, Lost & Found As far as I'm concerned, 50 is lost.

I have to disagree with that strongly. A Tribe Called Quest and Whodini deserve to be honored. Tribe is one the five greatest hip-hop groups of all time. I'm not sure about Snoop since he's still making records and Missy definitely should not be honored right now.
