  1. Good topic. It's kind of hard for me because I really become a big fan of Jay until The Black Album. I like some of his older songs but I think I'm gonna go with one of his more recent albums. I guess my favorite album of Jay's is.... American Gangster.
  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AJ!!!!!!! :yeah: :2thumbs: :clap2: :clap2: :wickedwisdom: We're all getting older... and for most of us wiser. LOL!!! Hope you have a great birthday man!!!
  3. Man they've been talking about a reunion album for almost 5 years now. I love ATCQ but I'll believe it when I see it.
  4. :yeahthat: I'm really only interested in Indy 4 & Hancock this summer. I might go see Dark Knight, Pineapple Express and maybe Step Brothers.
  5. Turntable, I like the idea... HOWEVER.... the song... IS TRASH!!!!
  6. Actually Jay-Z's math is a little off considering all the back-end money Will gets from producing the movies he stars in. So in essence Will would only need to be 2-3 movies to get to $150 million.
  7. In a light-hearted moment, Jay-Z recorded a diss track responding to Washington Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson saying that Cleveland Cavaliers forward/guard LeBron James was "overrated." In this quick 2 minute clip, he makes a reference to box-office king Will Smith: Jay-Z Disses DeShawn Stevenson Personally, I don't think he was dissing Will but I could see how some might imply that he was.
  8. For some reason I wasn't feeling it. KRS-One was good but to me it seemed like LL was lacking a bit. I liked Meth's verse but that was about it. The beat was average at best and Jim Jones & Lil' Kim nearly destroyed the track. This is one of those "acquired taste" kind of songs.
  9. I was wondering when Will would turn up on Wild-N-Out. He would destroy the entire red squad with one verse. I hope that this rumor is true.
  10. You know what the truth really is when it came to 50's dumb-a$$ comments? If what he was saying had any merit, he wouldn't have to defend it all the time. They know what they're doing is poison but they do it anyway just for the sake of making money. As I've said before, these rappers are pimping hip-hop and are being pimped by this record industry. There is no redeeming value in "gangsta rap". It's dehumanizing garbage. Everybody knows what's going on in the urban neighborhoods today so stop using the excuse of "I'm just trying to show what life is like out there." Stop hiding behind the "freedom of speech" argument. And instead of glorifying the garbage that you spew, how about trying to teach young people how not to make the mistake you made. Teach them that education is power. Teach them to respect life. Teach young men how not to objectify women. Teach young women to have respect for themselves and their bodies.
  11. This is the whole problem with these rappers today. Whether or not you agree with Alicia's comments, she has the right to make those comments and express her opinions. 50 makes himself look real stupid with his comments. I'm so sick of these rappers talking about "I'm just trying to talk about what I experienced." B.S. You're "hustling" hip-hop to make money. You're putting out trash and filth. You're corrupting the minds of young people and I'm sick of him and all of these other trash rappers out there. IT'S NOT HIP-HOP!!!!! Hip-hop is about and has always been about an art form that discusses a myriad of subjects. This is why people are getting sick of these rappers. They make garbage and then hide behind the curtain of "freedom of speech" and "it's a lifestyle" and other b.s. excuses. :shakehead: :shakehead: :shakehead:
  12. Tim you hit the nail right on the head. I think the loudest chorus of boos are coming from hip-hop fans who experienced the Golden Age. I'm 32 and I remember RUN-DMC's "Peter Piper". I remember going to the movies to see Beat Street. I remember the first time I heard Eric B. & Rakim's "I Ain't No Joke." I remember artists like Main Source, Del The Funky Homosapien, Poor Righteous Teachers, etc. So yeah it's becoming impossible for me to digest this garbage when I remember just how great & diverse the music was in the 80's and early 90's
  13. That whole "30 is the new 20" came from Jay-Z's song "30-Something". So yeah, 40 is the new 30. He's basically saying at even though he's in his 30(he's 38 by the way) that he's still as hot as he was in his 20's. It's become my theme song since I turn 33 next month.
  14. It's not just rap that's in a state of dysfunction. R&B is in the same state because it basically mirrors what the rappers are doing. There are only select R&B and hip-hop artists that I look for now. For me, I began looking toward other genres of music when I entered college. It's only intensified as rap and R&B have continued to decline. I find myself looking for more jazz, rock & pop these days then I do rap and R&B. That being said, I still love hip-hop and '07 was a banner year for "real" hip-hop. I just think that music(or more so the industry) in general is in a state of chaos. I've been saying this and I will continue to say this - artists need to leave these labels and go independent. In today's age with the internet, digital music, MySpace, YouTube and other outlets, there is no need for a label. Today's music industry is archaic. It is no longer needed and it must be destroyed to truly give control of the music back to the artists and their fans.
  15. Updated Numbers with DVD Home Sales/Rentals Final Domestic: $256.3 million Final Overseas: $327.5 million Final Worldwide: $583.8 million DVD Sales/Rentals: $116.7 million Total B.O./Sales: $700.5 million
  16. Q-Tip makes some valid points but I have to disagree with a him a little. Common, Kanye and Lupe(CHI represent!!!!) dropped great albums that were also commercially acceptable. Add in Talib Kweli, Nas, Jazzy Jeff and '07 was probably one of the better years for hip-hop. I am hopeful that hip-hop can turn it around despite the garbage that continues to get put out. And what's happening now is that a lot of this garbage is not selling and sounds like good news to me.
  17. Here are my predictions for the '08 season: AL Central: Cleveland Indians AL East: Boston Red Sox AL West: L.A. Angels AL Wild Card: Detroit Tigers NL Central: Chicago Cubs NL East: N.Y. Mets NL West: Arizona Diamondbacks NL Wild Card: Atlanta Braves ALCS: Boston Red Sox over Cleveland Indians NLCS: N.Y. Mets over Chicago Cubs World Series: Boston Red Sox over N.Y. Mets
  18. Keep doing what you're doing Kel. We need more real emcees like you in the game. Your music is definitely needed in the game right now.
  19. Connery was the best James Bond. End of thread.
  20. Tom can't seem to stop laughing. LOL. Leave the Scientology alone, Tom!!!!! LOL.
  21. My favorite line was "You not even supposed to be drivin, yo!! You not even supposed to drive!!!!" :lolsign:  This was obviously a publicity stunt from a group that has no more relevance in the music industry. It's tough and I guess they figured they had to do something to get some press. Either way, they have supplied me with another clip that I can play over & over again. Classic comedy.
  22. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX!!!!! Have a great birthdday!!!
