New Springville woman says she was denied service at nail salon because she is black By JOHN ANNESE STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE A New Springville woman charges that an employee of a Great Kills nail salon last night refused to do her nails because she is black. Ironically, the incident occurred on the birthday of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The alleged victim, Eliza J. Lincoln, 21, said last night she was made to wait at the Hylan Nail Inc. salon at 4014 Hylan Blvd. for more than two hours, then was refused service by the male employee whom she was waiting for. After the employee serviced other customers, she confronted him, and he allegedly told her, “Look around you, you see your people here?” Police from the 122nd Precinct were called to the scene to investigate. Cops said they are not treating the incident as a bias crime, according to a police spokesman. “Basically, it’s a dispute between one of the workers and the customer,” Det. Eric Crisafi, the police spokesman, said. “He didn’t want to serve her. We don’t know why he didn’t want to serve her.” A law enforcement source said other customers in the store backed Mrs. Lincoln’s account. “I understand what the cops said, there isn’t a criminal bias,” Mrs. Lincoln said, noting that the police suggested she go to an agency like the Better Business Bureau. Mrs. Lincoln who said her husband, Lorenzo, is serving in Iraq, said she was “satisfied” that the police had done their job, but nonetheless, plans to “take it as far as I have to take it.” Mrs. Lincoln said she would discuss the incident with officials from the NAACP. Mrs. Lincoln said the worker — an Asian man who customers identified only as Eddie — came recommended by colleagues, but after he made her wait, he told her he was “really tired” and couldn’t do the rest of the article I can't get but you understand what happened.

Will Smith Gives Up Hotel Development Plan PHILADELPHIA -- The Fresh Prince has given up on plans to develop a hotel in his hometown. Philadelphia-born actor and rapper Will Smith had won preliminary city approval several years ago to build a hotel and retail complex on a derelict property in the city's centuries-old Society Hill section. The luxury hotel would have had views of the Delaware River and been within walking distance of tourist attractions like South Street and Independence Hall. The city had pledged $9 million in tax incentives to help the development take place. But the project stalled in recent years as the hotel market softened, and Smith and his brother have now sold the vacant lot where the complex was to have been built. The sale price was $10.5 million, about three times what the family paid for the parcel five years ago. The new owners, Sant Properties, have a plan to build condominiums. Before its demolition in 2002, the site was formerly home to a complex of shops and restaurants known as the NewMarket. The site had fallen into disrepair before it was bought by the Smiths. Smith's real-estate company, Treyball Development, has invested millions of dollars in buildings around the city. They have included a former furniture company, a small office building and a funeral home.

I read about this a while back in the free new york newspaper AM new york. They had a article about these guys that actually did free styles that have humor and didn't insult the other person and actually one time it got so wild that one of the guys actually blurted out his password for his cell phone!!!!
