  1. I realize this but I'm holding out that there would be some involvement.
  2. The only "Hip-Hop" and R-N-B radio stations we get in MD play Lil' Wayne, Lil' Jon, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Black Eyed Peas non-stop. Don't get me wrong, I like BEP (mostly the older stuff, and I don't mind alot of Jay-Z's stuff, but 90% of the emcees/rappers that get play on the local stations are awful. Does ANYONE have a radio station that plays artists like Common Sense, KRS-One, Talib Kweli, Queen Latifah, Mos Def, etc all day long? I don't like Peedi...but I would gladly listen 2 his stuff over the likes of Lil' Wayne. That's all I was saying. I listen 2 CDs...almost never the radio. And if I do listen 2 the radio, it's a mix station when I'm in the mood for a little be of anything (except hard rock and country).
  3. EN VOGUE - Too Gone, Too Long EV3 (1997) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qle9X1TS4As Something about cleaning to older music just feels good...ha ha.
  4. STACIE ORRICO - I'm Not Missing You (Jason Nevins Remix) Promo (2005?) I was expecting a club mix...this is a Hip-Hop/R-N-B/Pop mix.
  5. You could say that KRS-One is "far from reality" ...but I would only agree on that with the unfortunate reality that Rap on the radio is far from Hip-Hop.
  6. This isn't my favorite vibe when it comes to Hip-Hop but I definitely like this. After hearing "Shutterbug" I'm definitely thinking I'll like the album.
  7. Yeah, I'm never gonna get over that. Jeff should have never recorded it unless it's was strictly gonna be JJ+FP. I don't think it would be appropriate for anyone else 2 even be on the track with the. His annoying voice is the main reason I'm not into him but I also can't remember any lyrics by him that were ever above average. I would gladly swap him for getting airplay over pretty much anyone else on the radio right now tho.'
  8. KRS-One Leads Boycott Against National Hip-Hop Museum KRS-OneAlways one to battle, KRS-One took to the podium at an April 8 launch event for the National Museum of Hip-Hop in the Bronx and shocked audiences with a message to boycott the museum because it did not pay proper respect to hip-hop's forefathers. "The reason that it's not going to happen is because Afrika Bambaataa has said this event is illegitimate and should not happen," said an angry KRS-One. "None of the pioneers are in support of this event. None of them will be here tonight. I am here on behalf of the temple of hip-hop as an observer. We are observing." KRS-One was apparently included in the initial planning and organization stages of the museum, but has spoken out against recent changes in direction. He claims that him and Bambaataa have been working on an accurate, celebratory museum for over two decades, but the people in charge didn't respect hip-hop history enough. "In closing, what you are getting, actually, is a real dose of hip-hop's culture," he continued. "Here is what we are dealing with, ladies and gentleman. We have been trying to start a hip-hop museum for over 20 years. In fact, it was Afrika Bambaataa that came up with the idea. However, most of the people who have been behind the hip-hop museum idea seem to always create groups without addressing the pioneers themselves." Watch KRS-One's tirade below.
  9. I'm looking forward to this. More than half of the artists are great. I have both of his other collaboration albums though it's been awhile. I used 2 listen 2 Q's Juke Joint often.
  10. Good for him, but I don't really think he's any good. I'd rather Jeff work with a higher caliber of emcee.
  11. This doesn't have anything 2 do with Jeff...but it seems like the news should still be posted here. It's from AOL's News. ------------------------------------------------------ Jill Scott: Countersues Record Company By Jawn Murray on Apr 8th 2010 2:40PM Jill Scott: Countersues Record Company That Sued Her Neo-soul siren Jill Scott is fighting back against her longtime record company Hidden Beach Records. BV Buzz reported, back in February, that the boutique music label -- founded by Steve McKeever (pictured with Scott in 2007), filed a suit against Scott claiming that she had "breached her contract." (Read: 'Soul Suit: Jill Scott Being Sued By Record Label.') Now the Philly-bred singer has countersued the label, filing paperwork first discovered by RadarOnline.com, claiming that Hidden Beach cost her millions of dollars. Additionally, the 38-year-old vocalist and actress claims that she was mismanaged by the Epic Records-affiliated recording imprint and that executives broke contractual promises to her. Having released six CDs for Hidden Beach, Scott alleges in legal docs that she lost "millions of dollars in damagJill Scottes as a result of Hidden Beach's mismanagement of her career." She is also upset that the record company is unlawfully using her name in the digital realm. The cross complaint stated: "In a bizarre and unlawful attempt to hold on to Ms. Scott's name...Hidden Beach has launched and continues to operate a "Jill Scott" website, a "Jill Scott" Facebook page, and a "Jill Scott" MySpace page." Her attorneys are requesting that the label "stop misusing her name on internet sites." The singer, who is currently featured in Tyler Perry's 'Why Did I Get Married Too?,' is asking for a jury trial. After BV Buzz's original report, Scott released a statement about Hidden Beach's lawsuit against her. "The lawsuit filed on February 3, 2010 by Hidden Beach Recordings against Jill Scott has no legal merit and misrepresents the history of Ms. Scott's relationship with the label. Jill Scott has the legal right to terminate her recording contract with Hidden Beach Recordings under California's 7-year rule, where she had been a recording artist for more than 10 years. During her time at Hidden Beach Recordings, she released several highly successful albums. At this time, with many creative projects in the works which include music, film and television roles and product development, Ms. Scott looks forward to continuing to further her artistry and building the Jill Scott brand in other creative environments."
  12. Are there any performances that they haven't executed perfectly? I'm serious. I've never seen a bad performance by them ever.
  13. Yeah, I love DMX, but I seriously thing he's bipolar to some extent. He's a complicated mix of character traits. With all the problems that he's created for himself and not really fixing his life up, I can understand why it would drive his wife away. Maybe it's this that will turn him around. He really is one of the best when it comes to legit, gritty, street Hip-Hop. After the 1st few years of his career, his stayed lyrically sharp, but his production when down hill...and fast. His sound has never recovered. The amount of problems he had 10 years ago are the same these days. The ratio of them being problems he's caused for himself are still high.
  14. O'So Krispie is the girl who won the competition on the show R U The Girl With T-Boz + Chilli to record a song with them. All these people freaked out because they thought they were trying to replace Left Eye even tho' the made it clear they were just giving someone the chance to record with them. It's annoying because when TLC was new to music, they'd have all these Radio Edit's w/o Rap so they'd get more play on Top 40 stations. But now rap (even really bad rap) is so accepted they don't really do that anymore...so I'm stuck with this version featuring some annoying rapper. ADAM LAMBERT - What Do You Want From Me? (Unplugged) (2010) I don't really like Adam Lambert at all. The performances and videos I've seen by him are all stupid and annoying. But I keep seeing this unplugged performance being aired on VH-1 and I actually like it.
  15. Why would u think it's lip synced when the vocals are clearly coming from them and they are having all those extra adlibs.?! :boggled:
  16. Bigted! That Montell Jordan album is one of my R-N-B favorites! TLC w/ O'So Krispie - I Bet R U The Girl with T-Boz + Chilli (2005) Man, I wish they had a radio edit w/o rap version....
  17. I'm sure it'll sell well since people have waited so long. The quality of the album is a total guessing game to me. He's probably gonna be talking about guns, weed, and sex in more than half of the song, which is fake and silly. I'm sure he'll squeeze in a couple really good songs. The final cut for the album will include Fresh Prince + Eminem "My Buddy 2010."
  18. It's a shame he was overlooked. But at the same time, he's known more as a DJ than anything else. Jeff hasn't always been the most consistent producer either. At least as fans, we go thru' phases where we get alot of stuff he produces and then we'll go a couple years where we don't hear hardly anything he produces. There's A LOT of people who aren't getting credit at Vibe when it comes to producing. Does Quincy Jones own Vibe again?
  19. Ice Cube Denies Dr. Dre Diss in 'Drink the Kool-Aid'Post Ice Cube has generated a lot of controversy as he pieces together his new record 'I Am the West,' particularly on a track called 'Drink the Kool-Aid' where he airs out a lot of his music industry hatreds. Yet one big relationship on the mend is between Cube and former NWA partner Dr. Dre. In a report from the studio last night, Ice Cube talked about getting it in with the legendary producer, jumping on Dre's 'Detox' and getting Dre to work on his new record. "I met Dr. Dre in the studio last night," wrote Ice Cube. "When I got there Snoop was in the booth laying the finishing touches on another classic from the dynamic duo. He played me some tracks set for the up and coming 'Detox' record and we talked about me jumping on board the project. Of course I talked about him doing s--- on my record and he said he'd bless the album. The Game came through ready to spit but Dre just wanted every[body] to vibe. It felt like old times when me and Dre would work on s--- in Eazy's cold ass garage." Apparently, Dre asked Cube if 'Drink the Kool-Aid' was supposed to be a diss towards him. On that track, Cube raps, "I ain't the doctor/ This ain't the patient/ This ain't that n---- always on vacation," but he was careful to explain that those lines weren't a reference to Dre at all. "He asked me did I diss him during the 'Paid Dues' show last Saturday," Cube said of playing the track in question.. I told Dre that I'd never diss the man that got me started." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DMX's Wife Plotting Divorce Things for DMX just keep getting worse and worse. Aside from his very public mounting legal woes and alleged drug addiction, the Yonker's born rapper's wife Tasheera Simmons is planning to file for divorce. The former couple, who were together for two decades and have four children, have since gone their separate ways. "I haven't filed [for divorce] yet but we are separated," Simmons said in an interview. Simmons is also writing a book about her life as a mother and wife to one of hip-hop's most notable figures. "It's not a tell-all, I want to clear that up," she said. "It's a memoir about our life. My life and his life together because I feel in his book he didn't really get into detail to better understand it. With all the drama and everything going on now, I think my book explains everything. It's just our story I just don't like the 'tell-all' because it's a positive 'tell-all' I guess I'll say that." In regards to whether or not she'll be spilling the beans on details surrounding X's fall from grace and decent into a lifestyle that includes one arrest after another, Simmons declined. "I'm more classier than that. I definitely wouldn't go there. I'm going to let people judge for themselves. I'm going to tell the whole story but not in a dissing way." As previously reported X, born Earl Simmons, is serving a six-month sentence for probation violation. In a desperate attempt to save his client, X's lawyer Gary Jenkins requested the assistance of addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinksy by way of the reality show 'Celebrity Rehab.' The show chronicles celebs' recovery process during treatment at the Pasadena Recovery Center. Pinksy also wrote a letter to the judge asking that X be admitted to the rehab facility. No word yet on whether or not X will appear on the show. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kelis' 'Fleshtone' Set for a July Release PostBack in December Kelis inked a new deal with Interscope Records via Will.I.Am's Music Group imprint, and now the 'Milkshake' singer is ready to unleash her fifth studio album this summer. 'Flesh Tone' will hit stores in North America on July 6, while international fans can expect to get their hands on the album more than a month earlier, on May 17. For her new LP -- the first since 2006's 'Kelis Was Here' -- Kelis teamed up with several high-profile and experimental producers, including Will.I.Am, David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Free School and Boys Noise to create an eclectic mix of dance music. Her current single 'Acapella' has enjoyed a successful run at No. 1 on the Billboard dance/club chart and in a recent interview Will.I.Am explained that he saw big things for Kelis in the coming months, "I would like Kelis to show she's an international sensation," he said. "She can be big. A lot of people think big is being on the radio or that being big is having a show in London, France and sometimes Japan. But that ain't international...that's just three countries. The Black Eyed Peas are big; the Black Eyed Peas are international. I think Kelis can be that big. As big as the Peas." Will.I.Am has been actively promoting the new album right alongside Kelis. The two appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night (April 7) for a performance of 'Acapella.' Check out the footage after the jump.
  20. PRISCILLA RENEA - Bacon 'N Eggs Jukebox (2009) My work played this song. I'd never heard of her until then. I really like her vibe.
  21. I loooooove the new jack swing sound. I'm not sure if this can make a good movie...but it has my attention... Teddy Riley is Bringing New Jack Swing Back? By: kmurphy Posted 3-11-2010 8:55 pm Fans of New Jack Swing will soon see the influential ‘80s R&B and rap music era immortalized on the big screen. According to legendary producer and New Jack Swing creator Teddy Riley, the film will detail the rise and cultural and commercial explosion of the groove-heavy, keyboard-driven sound kicked off by Keith Sweat’s 1987 landmark album Make It Last Forever. Riley’s swinging production style instantly dominated R&B and hip hop music and eventually pop with Michael Jackson. “We are getting ready to do a movie chronicling the early New Jack Swing era,” Riley told VIBE. “It’s going to be the new millineum Krush Groove and Boyz In The Hood all rolled up in one. New Jack City (the classic 1991 street film starring Wesley Snipes) was just scratching the surface. Barry Michael Cooper, the same writer who wrote New Jack City, originally gave my music the name New Jack Swing. So Barry and I put our heads together to do this film.” While the movie is still being developed, Riley promises an insightful look inside the New Jack Swing scene as well as the artists and industry people who made it all happen. “We are starting the film in the ‘80s, so part 1 will be before Michael Jackson. We are covering everything from Guy and Bobby Brown to modern R&B’s first beef, which was between Guy and New Edition. It’s going to be written by Barry Michael Cooper, with input from myself and Jeff Dyson, who was New Edition’s security. The truth shall be revealed.” However, Riley says he won’t be handling any acting duties. He’s going to leave such thespian pursuits to the professionals. “There will be someone playing Teddy Riley, but I’ll be narrating the film,” he explains. “The [characters] of the movie are the people who helped create the movement. The real actual people won’t be in it. We’ll have some great actors to come in and play people like Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, and Guy. This is my time to really think outside of the box. I’m doing what I never got the chance to do which is to show how important a movement New Jack Swing really was.” —Keith Murphy
  22. Nothing too big hear...just nice to hear/see something new with him in it. http://www.vibe.com/mt/2009/09/v-exclusive-tupac-shakur----the-lost-footage-pt-i
  23.
