  1. Tim, I've never heard of that guy. The beat is one of the best I've heard in YEARS!! Subject matter is average but over a dope song. NEW EDITION - Hit Me Off Home Again (1996) From one of my favorite R-N-B albums ever. They need to do another album. They are at their best with all 6 of them.
  2. I'm certainly not going to tell people what to like. I've been a close follower of Pink since 1999 and I'm not going going to challenge opinion but I will challenge something that's not correct. I think back to MC Lyte's line from "TRG"..."An emcee that last is an emcee that's clever." Speaking of all of music (going beyond Hip-Hop), someone who can balance a career successfully for a long time is either very clever or a huge sell out. Pink is one of the realest and most honest artists out there. I can say for sure that most of the artists right on the radio will not be around 10 years from now. Pink is likely to be one of the only ones. JOHN REUBEN - Do Not Are We There Yet (2000)
  3. Fabolous Sued for Assault by Atlanta Busboy Fabolous is in trouble. The New York rapper, who made a recent trip down to Georgia, has been sued by an Atlanta busboy named Octavious Butler, who claims that the 'Body Ya' MC assaulted him with a glass bottle at ATL's Fox Sports Grill. While working at the restaurant, Butler, who filed the lawsuit on Jan. 31 in Fulton County Superior Court, alleges that the Brooklyn native hit him with not only a glass bottle, but with his fist. He claims that Fab joined another attacker and assaulted him unprovoked. The financial terms of the lawsuit have not been disclosed. This isn't the first time that the 31-year-old rapper has gotten into trouble. Back in October 2006, he was arrested for carrying an unlicensed weapon after getting shot in the leg, and the following year, he was suspected to have been involved in the fatal stabbing of a childhood friend. In February 2009, police discovered 500 pounds of weed on his tour bus, though he dodged charges since he wasn't aboard at the time. Fabolous and Def Jam have yet to comment on the incident and lawsuit. The rapper is currently focusing on recording his upcoming mixtape 'The S.O.U.L. Tape,' set for release later this month.
  4. I simply can't see that. Especially from someone who thinks Nicki Minaj is talented/good/relevant. Sure, Pink's sound changed after her 1st album, but other than that, she's always had a broad variety of subject matter (serious, funny, vulnerable, empowering, etc). Her sense of humor and style has always been consistent due to the fact that it's always been so eclectic. Before she released her R-N-B album, she was in a punk band. She's always had a style that was impossible to put inside a box. Pink sets trends...she doesn't follow them. and "Dear Mr. President" was a video that got aired in the US. Pink hasn't had an official physical CD single released in the US since 2003. P!NK - Dear Diary Misundastood (2001) One of my favs...I'm pretty sure Dallas Austin produced this one.
  5. P!NK - Perfect Greatest Hits...So Far (2010) Pink is one of the greatest things to happy to music in the past 10 years.
  6. NAUGHTY BY NATURE - O.P.P. (self-titled) (1992)
  7. By the way, that was me...no idea how I got logged out.
  8. MC LYTE + ALMOST SEPTEMBER - The Best Day THE AS EP (2009) After searching for a physical copy of the MC Lyte/Almost September album for over 2 years...I OWN IT!!! This is some of MC Lyte's best work ever...and easily some of the best Hip-Hop music made in the past 15 years. How do classics slip thru' cracks like this?!
  9. I did watch til the end. I felt like a kick to the crotch was more appropriate.
  10. I don't know. I just feel like there the end should have had an extra push of comedy. I'm not saying it's bad at all. The actor in me was just feeling that the end could have had something more to it that popped.
  11. "Just look around you. There's weather everywhere." "The best place to meet foreigners are airports and other countries." Those are my favorite lines. I like this. I just feel like it's missing a button at the end.
  12. Play may not have been the most lyrical emcee ever but he's definitely one of the smoothest. Plus he has the best fashion sense of anyone in Hip-Hop.
  13. THE BEATNUTS - Let Off A Couple (self-titled) (1994) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9RyGM6CVkw I just got this album 2nite. Other than some average subject matter, this album is dope.
  14. I have never watched an episode of Glee. Everyone says I'd love it since I perform in musicals. My thing is, it's a bunch of corny kids watering down songs and never doing them justice. That annoys my too bad. Why would they need 2 touch an Eminem song. I've seen them butcher stuff by MC Hammer, Young MC, and Color Me Bad.
  15. Thank God! ---------------------------------------- Eminem Too Expensive for 'Glee' Hit musical comedy 'Glee' may be one of the most successful shows on television, but they're not big enough for Eminem. The Fox series, which has built itself into a $500 million dollar brand, has featured performances of popular songs like Rihanna's 'Take a Bow,' Cee-Lo's ubiquitious 'F--- You' and several Billy Joel standards, but Slim Shady's music was reportedly too expensive for the show. In a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy explained that they had planned to perform Em's '8 Mile' anthem 'Lose Yourself' on the show, but were unable to afford the license, which would have cost them a whopping $200,000. "We couldn't do it because the episode would've been so over budget," Murphy revealed. In the meantime, fans can look forward to an upcoming re-enactment of Michael Jackson's epic 'Thriller' when 'Glee' makes its highly anticipated return on Feb. 6. Eminem released his seventh studio album 'Recovery' in June of 2010. The album sold 741,000 copies in its first week and is up for ten Grammys this year, including Best Rap Album and Album of the Year. Despite the album's success Eminem has taken a backseat to touring, only performing half a dozen concerts last year.
  16. LAURYN HILL - Zion The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998)
  17. I think Motown music is pretty much perfect in every way. Without Motown, who knows what music would be like today.
  18. This is their biggest hit... THE MARVELETTES - Mr. Postman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nuEY6fQgzk
  19. Check out this pic of JJ+FP and K'NP. The article based on this pic is kinda silly but I figured I'd share. Check it out. http://www.funnyordie.com/articles/bf1eda4af4/michael-jordan-kid-n-play-fresh-prince-picture?playlist=featured_pictures_and_words
  20. I consider ANYONE on Motown during that time a legend. R.I.P. ---------------------------------------------- Gladys Horton of the Marvelettes Dead at 66 Gladys Horton, the powerful soul singer who co-founded the all-female Motown ensemble the Marvelettes, died late Wednesday in a nursing home outside of Los Angeles. The 66-year-old's cause of death is unknown, though she was recovering from complications due to a stroke she suffered last year, her son told the Associated Press. Horton was born in 1944 in a suburb of Detroit and raised by foster parents. She joined a glee club in high school and almost immediately recruited four club members, including Georgia Dobbins, to create the modestly named the Casinyets (as in, can't sing yet). The group's big break came in 1961 with an audition for Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson of the then-startup label Motown. They weren't originally given the opportunity -- they had placed fourth in their high school's talent show, with the top three receiving auditions -- but were granted an exception. The quartet wowed the label with a second audition, performing what would become their first hit single, 'Please Mr. Postman,' co-written with Dobbins' friend and songwriter William Garrett. They settled on a new band name, the Marvelettes, and recorded the song with the famous Funk Brothers backing them. The song and its eponymous album skyrocketed to the top of the charts. While the group released several records over the next six years, with successful singles such as 'Playboy' and 'Don't Mess With Bill,' they failed to reach the top of the charts again. During that time, one member, Juanita Cowart, had a nervous breakdown and quit. Another, Georgeanna Tillman, was diagnosed with lupus and left. At the same time, Motown began to shift its focus to newer artists better positioned to compete with suddenly popular English rock bands like the Beatles. Horton left the group in 1967 to get married, and never returned fully to music. She devoted herself to taking care of her handicapped son, and largely stayed out of the public eye, even during the controversy that surfaced when the Marvelettes chose to continue performing with no original members. She performed only occasionally in the ensuing decades with no apparent interest in launching a solo career, billing herself simply as "Gladys Horton from the Marvelettes." "My mother died peacefully," Horton's son, Vaughn Thornton, said Thursday morning in a statement released by the Motown Alumni Association. "She fought as long as she could." She is survived by Vaughn and another son. Funeral arrangements are pending.
  21. This guy has skillz!! I wouldn't label it as a "history" in Hip-Hop but it's definitely a crazy mix. I'm gonna have 2 share this!!
  22. MARY J. BLIGE - Sweet Thing What's The 411? (1992)
  23. Matter of opinion. Craig Mack had a lot stronger presence in his music. His subject matter had a lot more variety. Craig's beats were also much doper. I always thought Biggie was average at best. MARY J. BLIGE + HEAVY D - My Love (Remix) What's The 411? Remix Album (1993) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT-v-CwZVd0 Uptown Records was one of the greatest labels ever. It actually set the blueprint for Bad Boy Records...except Bad Boy wasn't as picky with actually signing more talent.
  24. CRAIG MACK - Flava In Ya Ear Project: Funk The World (1993) The best album Bad Boy ever put out....and it didn't really have anything to do with Bad Boy...lol.
