  1. That's an oxymoron...New England...and Sports Fans? HAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHaHAHHAHAHA
  2. I don't know what's more upsetting: This random ridiculous buying of an OK album at best.... or the fact radio stations are playing EVERY song from his album. HELLO, WHEN DID THEY EVER PLAY MORE THAN THE SINGLE OUT FROM AN ARTIST???? SO MANY AMAZING SONGS NEVER WENT ON THE RADIO BY NAS, JAY Z, RAKIM, WILL SMITH, ETC AND YET THIS KID HAS EVERY LAST OF THIS CD ON THE RADIO CONSTANTLY ugh.
  3. Will Smith, you make me mad. The Lakers vs the Celtics. First, the Lakers: Hollywood's team with an adulturer who has no class but loves to talk himself up. Oh and the kid cries when Philly boos him for selling out. Back to the Lakers as a team: The same team that stabbed the city of Philly, YOUR city, in the heart in 2001. Second, THE CELTICS. ARE YOU KIDDING ME WILLARD?????? THE CELTICS ARE THE MOST HATED BASKETBALL TEAM BY PHILADELPHIANS. The legendary rivalry is an obvious one that makes any true Philadelphian cringe seeing the Celtics in the Finals. The Celtics, Cowboys, Devils, and Mets are the core scum of the earth...at least in the mind of a true Philadelphian.
  4. I just listened to it...and then checked here...good look. It's awesome!
  5. I apologize first and foremost for over-hyping Nas the past week. With that out of the way, I had no intention of doing a mixtape review, but for the first time in 3 full years, I can say: The MIXTAPE IS BACK!!!! Green Lantern and Nas must have been living under a rock, because in today's hip hop you NEVER: 1.) Weave a mixtape together with pertinent skits (aka No YELLING "ITDISI GOINGSK DOWNS WEORDS HOMIES") 2.) Treat the mixtape as an album in the material produced 3.) Give out some of your best material that had only been heard as snippets before 4.) Spit more than 1 verse (if that) of new material DJ Green Lantern used his trademark scratches and slogans very lightly, giving this mixtape an actual fluidity. He tied comedic skits from famous standup acts and did it very well. Green Lantern also went way beyond his usual by being fresh with his production selection for the mixtape songs he produced. As for Nas, he let us hear a couple songs that had yet to been fully released and he spit new lines on a bunch of songs solely for the mixtape! So, back by popular (Hey Visqo!) demand....THE REVIEW: 1. Intro- Skit using the racial slur in a comedic sense while defining its meaning. 2. Gangsta Rap Remix--Nas went in with his remix to Ice Cube's song...an extension of Nas' previous lyrics to the remix released a few months ago...decent. 3. Cops Keep Firing produced by Green Lantern--- Nas goes in with TWO grade A freestyle sets of versus...exclusive to this mixtape!!! YOU KIDDING ME??? Plus Lantern flips a classic and gets a Jay-Z verse and Nas verse as the hook...creative! 4. Hero feat Keri Hilson....Great scratches in such an anticipated song....Good intro flip from "Classic 07" from Kanye. We all know this song is Grade A!!!!! 5. Black President.....Starts off with a question from a political commentator: "Do you really think America's ready for a black president?" and that just leads even more in to the song that is freakin awesome!!! ....note: I realized I am at a stan/loretta level now. If you expect this to decrease/stay-the-same, you are sadly mistaken... 6. Association ft. STIC MAN FROM DEAD PREZ.....I'm pretty sure both versus from both guys are very obscure ones....and it's a good setup for their actual collab on Nas' upcoming album.... 7. LEGENDARY (MIKE TYSON) prod. by Salaam Remi....Nas LIFTS a FRESH PRINCE theme...the intro is the ring announcer introducing Mike Tyson and Nas...the Beat is so OLD SCHOOL AND FRESH!!! It's from his album and had yet to be released before this mixtape!! Great stuff... 8. Ghetto (Remix) ft. Joell Ortiz....Another less heard gem by Nas ripping apart the Rich Boy song...sweet...Joell is ok on this...better elsewhere... 9. Seen it all---Green puts together a spooky funky beat and lifts Nas' verses from that "Everthing I love" song by diddy from the forgettable press play album... 10. ESCO LET'S GO prod by DJ Khalil..... ........The HOTTEST BEAT. .......NAS goes way in...like 19 feet deep. SICKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!! ...again, this is another song that never was out (at best, snippets were available) 11. N.I.G.G.E.R prod. by DJ Toomp....... Ok, so I've avoided this long enough. If I'm going to push NAS like crazy..I can't ignore the theme of the album (and former title)....so after listening to this continuously...I have to say this is very good...... It's smooth, and Nas makes it clear that there is no natural difference between any person. He makes it clear we can't let "black" "white" or any label be their definition. 12. Be a N----- Too Remix---it's interesting soul sampling....the lyrics are creative...I still do have a problem with hook...other than that, both this, and the remix are good. 13. Surviving the Times (Original Cool And Dre Production)-- Terrible beat. I found out Cool and Dre do this constantly..."We made it" by Busta Rhymes and Linkin Park was initially done by Cool and Dre...of course Linkin Park took over the production.... Anyway, whatever, fun keyboard work...but dumb. 14. Nas Timeline---A mix narrated by Nas about his first days as an MC to Hip Hop is Dead.... very fun to listen to!!! He talked pretty candidly and was really introspective in this discussion...great stuff. 15. Outro---Richard Pryor....the amazing end of the standup by Pryor regarding the N-word. .... So, DJ Green Lantern really worked hard with Nas to get his gems many have not heard in preparation for his album...he got ahold of some of the dopest tracks Nas had made in a long time... (Hero, Esco lets Go)... And he got Nas to do an introspective piece while using comedic relief to tie it all together. In an era where mixtapes don't exist, this is a true gem of a tape. DJ Green Lantern and Nas together put an "album-ified" mixtape.....and a great one at that. I'd put this mixtape up against some of the prime mixtapes back when they were all over the place. As a mixtape: A+++++++ :wickedwisdom: Now, time to hide from all those who think I totally STAN'd it up :paperbag:
  6. :::::::::::::::::::::EDIT:::::::::::::::::::::: Here's the video for Nas's video, it's 9 minutes and it's "Be a N------ Too" http://videos.onsmash.com/v/Tg1IdHiVCqp3W3D8 ^I personally have to watch this more than once to decide if I support it. The artistic filming and piano would make me say yes, but I do feel it's too much of the slur for me to hear. And here's the download for the Green Lantern/Nas Mixtape "The N----- Tape" http://www.zshare.net/download/13361286e0c73433/ ^ I have yet to hear it...so I'll wait on commenting.... :::::::::::::DONE EDIT:::::::::::::::::::::: So first off, this is a snippet I found..."Fried Chicken" featuring Busta Rhymes and produced by Mark Ronson (who is talking over it, scared to death he shouldn't have leaked it). http://www.zshare.net/audio/132945681cee08b6/ Second, the article from Hiphopdx. A synopsis: The new Nas album is called "Untitled" and will be released July 15. He will release a mixtape with DJ Green Lantern called the "N***er Tape." Anyway, here's the article: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.7092...ts-release-date
  7. The album will come out well before november 1....July 15th!
  8. increased echo, delayed reverb? It's prob just an ambience setting to give a resonating sound.
  9. Ya, you know because if you like hiphop...you can only be a democrat..... .... .. ?
  10. haha same! i go over friend's houses and pull it up for all to listen haha
  11. http://www.zshare.net/audio/132252685ad19d2e/ Although the beginning feels too crowded, the instrumental through-and-through is hot!!! The hook seems too much, but the verses are tight. First set of verses are real on point.... I'm listening to the second set....Polow da Don changes up the beat. Cool synths...heavy drums (808's?) ^ Definitely a radio song...Not a bad one, but obviously that drops some of the intellect/complexity of the song... Overall Grade: A- ---As much as the hook feels overdone, he comes smart on the first set of verses...changes up some of the rhythm in flow on the second set....and I think he got a good mix of popular and smart...so it will get some commercial success without detracting from the message. Peep it!!! :wickedwisdom:
  12. AMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAZZING SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you all questioned if Nas was gonna show up on this album????? Seriously, doubts are aside. He not only talks in support of Obama, but in the second verse, offers up questions about Obama and if he's the right choice. Below is the song link: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/audio/id.499...black-president Here's the article: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1588694/index.jhtml It's no surprise that the thought-provoking Nas would be the first hip-hop artist to drop a song about Obama's run for the presidency. MTV News has a received a new song by the mic savant called "Black President." (Check out the song right here!) The record conveys Nas' hopes for Obama, should he win the election, and touches on some of the hardships he could face along the way. The cut, produced by DJ Green Lantern, starts with Obama being introduced as the next president of the United States. It then goes into Obama's speech from Tuesday night. The track builds with a sample of Tupac Shakur's voice: "Although it seems heaven-sent, we ain't ready to have a black president." Optimism then prevails with a man singing, "Yes, we can change the world." That's emphasized with a sample of Obama yelling, "Change the world!" Nas' first verse is almost like an open letter to the country: "They forgot us on the block/ Got us in the box/ Solitary confinement, how violent are these cops?" He ends his verse pointing the finger at some members of the black community. "A president's needed," he reiterates. "These colored folks and Negroes hate to see one of their own succeeding/ America: Surprise us, and let a black man guide us." When the second verse commences, Nas wonders what Obama might be thinking on election night. "Is it, 'How can I protect my wife, protect my life, protect my rights?' " Nas himself then expresses the slight misgivings he has about Obama: "I'm thinking, 'I can trust this brother, but will he keep it way real?' " "I was making the song for the Barack Obama mixtape, and Nas heard the song and called, like, 'Yo, I need that for my album,' " Green Lantern explained of how the song came about. "I said, 'Of course, but it's gotta come out now, 'cause it's so timely.' With his album dropping July 1st, it worked out. I think he does it justice. He not only supports the idea of Obama being the president, he actually questions it in the second verse in true Nas fashion. He's positive, uplifting, but critical at the same time." Earlier this month, Nas told MTV News that Obama's rise to prominence actually got him interested in politics again. The Queensbridge native did say that he had a very specific agenda he wanted Obama to address if he made it to office — especially in the wake of the Sean Bell case. "There never been a president to address the slaughter of young black people by this country's police," Nas fumed. "When your government's police are killing one section of people, that's genocide. There's never been a president to even acknowledge it. You don't acknowledge that? That's a big thing President Obama has to recognize when he gets in office. "I'm five presidents in ... and I ain't seen nothing happen to stop the police murders on young, black people," he added. "Why would I believe in the system? With that being said, I think Barack can cure that disease and help cure the country. Not just in that area with us blacks, but also with all Americans. Women are getting treated like dogs. You know how hard it is for a woman to prove she was raped? The system is warped. They throw young guys — who's starving — in jail just trying to survive on the streets. Throw them in jail forever. Young kids, 18 years old, executed in Texas. Yet, child predators get to come home and do it again. I think it's so much our president can do. [Obama] seems like a human being. I say that because a lot of presidents don't seem like human beings. They seem like straight-up businessmen who care about nothing but the business. Nah, you gotta care about the people." "Black President" is slated to appear on Nas' forthcoming untitled LP (due next month) as well as his new street CD. The latter, a collaboration between the MC and DJ Green Lantern, will be released toward the end of this week. The mixtape has two covers: One depicting Nas with his mouth taped shut, the other with a photo of police brutality.
  13. There was a post I made a months back where I outlined exactly, regarding talent and performance, I think Lupe is extremely overrated. You can look back. I talk of his flow that seems to run into itself at the end of a line, and much more.
  14. Do you think I'm supporting Lil Wayne? I'm saying in his album, there were terrible songs, and a few gems. Lupe in a completely different way has songs I can't stand, and a few ones I think are good (from his first album almost exclusively). The reason why I confronted Lupe so much is because the "backpack" crowd accepts him, when I don't think he comes close to any of the talibs, mos defs, or others. Lil Wayne is a garbage rapper...and I made that clear...but on his album, to be honest, there were a few songs worth listening to.
  15. BLAH. God Blessa! For such a big head on your icon...soo little is.... Anyway, I said "worth the listen"...for those songs. and they are. What's really good on that album? Mr. Carter and Dr. Carter, Definitely Juelz's verse on Nothin on me, and shoot me down has one of the most attention-clenching instrumentals I've heard in a long time. Listen to Dr. Carter and Mr. Carter...you can't say it isn't creative rhyming. And Jay-Z does an awesome verse. Oh, and Nothing on me was on a mixtape...and Juelz killed it then and now! But it's ok: Oh, and here we go with Lupe: I'm gonna talk about hamburgers, think I'm one of the best (as in his interview with MTV), and then I'm going to mess up a Tribe called Quest in a tribute and defend it by saying I never listen to them! PLEASE! NOthing but LOVE!
  16. It took me about 5 minutes to believe you that she signed to "The Inc." Wow. decent. Although looking nice in the video, she looks TERRIBLE in the wikipedia entry. She's still got a nice voice.
  17. He is seriously going to make it 3 in a row for MVP's from the Phillies......
  18. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Nina Simone Both Common's "Misunderstood" (2007) and Lil Wayne's "Misunderstood" (2008) flip it. Anyway, i forgot to mention that Lil Wayne's "I got money" and it's remix have officially qualified for static-noise/audio pollution...they are awful songs.
  19. I listened to the whole album through a couple of spins. 50% is garbage, 25% is ok, and 25% is real good. dr. carter, mr. carter, shoot me down, nothin on me are worth the listen beat build and comfortable are ok If You want to slice your ears out: Milli, Phone home, Lolipop (remix version), la la (even with busta on it), and misunderstood Misunderstood just makes me mad because he flips that sample that common used for the same hook a year ago, and common of course was conscious with it...while wayne tried conscious and then went right around that
  20. SWEET you're my..... it's too easy and probably overplayed with your username, so i'll refrain. thanks though!
