Men In Black 3 offends Chinese government censors

BEIJING - Men In Black 3 stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are shown doing battle with 'aliens' in a Chinatown restaurant in one of the many scenes deleted from the Chinese version of the film.

All in all censors in Beijing cut the latest Hollywood blockbuster, Men In Black 3, by 13 minutes to remove all Chinese baddies from the film.

The makers of the film might not have realised that setting parts of the movie in New York's Chinatown would cause offence on the other side of the world, reported The Daily Telegraph.

But the Chinese government apparently saw plenty of political resonance in one scene where Will Smith, playing a US secret agent, erases the memories of a group of Chinese bystanders.

"This could have been a hint on the use of Internet censorship to maintain social stability," commented China's Southern Daily newspaper.

Meanwhile two other scenes, including this one, where unsavoury aliens disguise themselves as Chinese restaurant workers, were also judged to have cast China in a bad light. AGENCIES

They stopped promoting it. I think that for the second week they should have gotten out and about to make this movie a lil bit more interesting for the audience out there who obviously didnt go to see it on the first weekend..

I was checking out some old Will Smith interviews and some of the ones now for MIB3 and I noticed that Will has steered away from talking about work ethic, how to be successful, and almost all the advise he used to give out whenever he got to speak. Now he was all about the kids and repetitive jokes.. He is shying away from that type of talk because of the controversy about the Scientology stuff or what?

Nah i think it all depends on what movie hes promoting, he was like that for MIB2, hes more fun and jokey but his more serious roles he talks about acheiving your goals, working hard etc. It also depends what the interviewer asks, they are more likely to ask silly questions for a comedy. Will isnt gonna shy away from stuff like that, he lives by it. It has nothing to do with scientology, i follow Wills rules for life and im certainly not a scientologist.
