DJ Premier swears no electro music on Kanye's album

This is nice to see Kanye realising that what he's been doing the past few years hasn't been that hot compared to what he did on his first couple albums:

Hip-Hop pioneer DJ Premier has promised that the upcoming Kanye West album, Good A** Job, will not feature any experimental or electro music.

According to Premier, West has emphasized the importance of returning to his hip-hop roots.

"I'm working with Kanye. He reached out to me like, 'Yo, you at the studio?,'" Premier said in an interview. "He came by at 8 p.m. and didn't leave until three in the morning. We were drinking Grey Goose and just bugging out. It was me, Kanye and Showbiz, from Showbiz & AG talking about the whole industry...He told me how he wanted this album to be really boom-bap, hard, hard beats. He said, 'No electro Preem, I swear no electro [Laughs].' Ye is still that crazy dude he's always been. He's really focused on making this album raw. So I gave him a banger and he said he wanted two more on top of that one. I'm giving him two more this week." (VIBE)
Premier recently hinted at the project being more raw than past efforts.

"Well, first of all, if you look at all of Kanye West's output, he actually did a lot to bring back sampling and make it cool again, even though he's more of a mainstream artist" Premier explained. "But his new album is strictly hard beats and rhyme. He's totally done with electro. You're gonna be surprised what you hear." (Amajanese)
Fellow hip-hop pioneer Pete Rock recently confirmed being in the studio with Ye.

"I mean, I'm working with him," Rock told radio host Peter Rosenberg. "That's all I can say is that I'm working with him. I went out [to Hawaii.] It's beautiful man, like, he just feels like a little brother to me. You know what I'm saying? Like, my little brother that's doing it. And we got along just fine. He's definitely hip-hop, his roots, I was testing him on joints...He takes it to another level which is dope. He had these musicians and this song, they played around my little raggedy beat and made it real [big]. I love the way he works -- he goes from one room, writing rhymes then goes to another beat and goes to another room and does something else -- I love what he's done, I always thought he was clever. I used to bug out over the ego thing but once you get to know him, it's like 'Oh, okay, he's a sweetheart.' [laughs] We got along just well." (Noisemakers)
Rap veteran Q-Tip also revealed his involvement on West's album.

"I just try to work with people who I admire or whom I think has got it," he revealed in an interview. "So right now I'm working on Nas' sh*t, about to work with Kanye on his sh*t. Just trying to keep up my momentum. I'm about to work with Talib [Kweli] on his project. I been trying to work with [Jay-Z] for a while so hopefully he'll realize the heat I got and come with it [laughs]." (Brooklyn Bodega)

Reading this sparks my interest a bit. I still think he's voice, flow, and lyrics are average when their at their best. His ego and maturity that has displayed over the past few years is ridiculous. I just don't have much respect for him at all. With Pete Rock, Q-Tip, and DJ Premier working on the project, I'll give it a listen. I'm glad he's done with the sound of his last studio album. That was straight garbage.

Yeah you compare Kanye to all the great rappers and he does come out average, in fact the best thing about his first couple albums were the guest appearances, and I think the only reason why he's had so much success is 'cause most mainstream rappers have been weak and he's been able to benefit off of that but I think with better rappers emerging as of late he's gonna have a harder time staying popular if he don't step his game up...

I'm real excited for this new album! I need some new Kanye badly...his last album was good in my opinion (Paranoid, Heartless...etc) but you really need to be in the mood for it because there is a serious contrast from Graduation (uplifting and happy) to 808s (depressed..etc) considering he did make the album based on his depression from his gf dumping him. Call me crazy, but I'd def put Kanye in my top 20..hes a great rapper, producer...etc.

I saw this same article too a couple days ago, Premo, Q-Tip and Pete Rock are some great people to work with. Bye bye autotune and take it back to the essence. I guess every rapper needs to make an experiential album to release their creative juices and 808 was good but not up to par with his prior 3 albums.

I used to think Kanye was a dope producer. About 2005 he started getting really inconsistent. He's sound started branching out and with that the over all quality went down. He's voice, flow, and lyrics are already lacking. Once u take away the dope beats and substitute them with average or weak beats, there's nothing to help u forget all of the immature and stupid things that he says and does on a regular basis. U can fix bad production...u can't fix stupid.

Drake? I never thought he was good. Like...ever.

Yeah, I saw him as a breath of fresh air when he first dropped. His ego has totally thrown a wrench in my interest gears though.

Boom-Bap, premo, pete rock and q-tip.. I don't care how poor is rapping is I'm gonna be checking this album.. Kanye definitely brought back sampling which was good.. and this sounds like a return to hip hop cica 1993.. and thats my era..

There's a difference between Kanye coming into the game...and him STAYING in the game....lol. One things is for sure, I'd love for there to be an instrumental release of this album.
