Hey Jeff, I just wanted to say thanks for continuing to inject soul into hip hop. Every track I get my hands on from the new album just feels more and more like a feel-good album, something that I miss. There's a place for serious talk, but times you just need fun and the music behind the lyrics is one-of-a-kind when you're on the track. So now that you've "Returned" you should be here to stay and get albums out as often as possible :-) I'm just kidding; good luck with the sales but I know in the end you make good music for good music's sake, and as long as that idea lives, hip hop will too. Best Wishes, Bob N.

Shame on NBC for only Facilitating a killer's intentions...
Bob replied to Bob's topic in Caught in the Middle
Alot of psycho-analysis of the two boys who killed at Columbine points to one thing that could have made the copycats worse: them getting their story, their way, at the reporters before the authorities took control. Alot of kids who are troubled can see someone who seems almost heroic in his infamous profile all over the TV's. I believe the video will only inspire as he wished. They should have at least gave some time to let emotions simmer, for the simple sake of the families. And in response to AJ, I strongly doubt the right person in the authorities made the call because they really have protocol (as spelled out after Columbine) to not release documents so early, so to quell the sensationalism. I really do feel that a disturbed individual on this platform can only ignite the possibility of copycats. I think no harm would have been done in concealing the tape for some time, allowing families to view, and maybe in a few years releasing the footage. I mean why do we hear so little of the 20-some school shootings since Columbine? I believe the authorities have done a good job in not giving the offenders the platform they so desparately seak. -
I posted this on my facebook and felt it was worth re-posting here, just my thoughts: So we all are trying to cope/help others cope with the events of Monday at Virginia Tech. And yes, our curiosity is one that would want to consume any information about the killer and his motives. We naturally have an urge to "solve the case" on our own. Yet, someone at NBC should have shown discretion with what they released to the public. And by discretion I mean let the authorities decide what would be permissible to share with the public. The killer sent NBC headquarters a video/photo/letter package that described his motives in an attempt to portray himself as a martyr for the socially oppressed. As in he meticulously compiled something he wanted the general public to see. As in NBC did exactly what he wanted by sharing the contents of his package to the general public. ....? Yes, NBC did give the authorities the original contents, but only after they made a copy and let the public see it. Why? Ratings? Stupidity? The killer even references the two boys who committed the Columbine attacks. He spoke of them as legends. He did this to "create a new generation" of sorts of followers. He says so himself. This man, who knew exactly what he was doing enough so to premeditate the whole thing, wanted, wished, hoped, and obviously expected that the need to get the scoop, get the ratings would lead NBC to releasing this package to the public. He did what the two boys at Columbine never could, which was releasing his story, his way, to the public immediately. The authorities who covered the Columbine Massacre purposely took time to release documents so as not to add fuel to the flame of sensationalists. The two boys at Columbine wanted copycats but the instances were staggered thankfully to smart moves by the authorities as to not raise these kids to a higher status so quickly. Now the probability of a copycat is so much more likely than ever before. NBC has only enlarged the problem, as now those who need help will see a figure of infamy to latch onto. I am personally going to send a letter to NBC and I do not know what else but I urge you to show your contempt with their decision to only facilitate the killer's intentions. I believe firmly in my heart that NBC's lack of discretion will directly result in a family's loss some point within the near future. It's sad because we are talking about business professionals who made the completely immoral decision to release the documents almost immediately. And for those who say we have a right to information, yes I agree, but there are cases in emergencies where the government must make the decision to not allow a sensitive situation only become more dangerous. Eventually, over time, as it becomes easier to step back from the situation, yes, the package should be open to the public. And what about the families, the friends who just lost a loved one? Now they see a killer get his wish, an infamous picture of his devilish profile all over the news and no filter to stop vulnerable, depressed young adults from absorbing his deceptive diction and following his ways. The prospect of this fame and the knowledge now that the media will allow for such hype to follow in its wake uninhibited only becomes a greater attraction to anyone who identifies with the killer's thoughts. It upsets me that a company with such power, the power of communication, would not realize its social responsibility to not exacerbate a very volatile and upsetting situation.

Assuming what you're saying is true... I'd like to know where he sees himself in ten years. Does he think about when he will retire or does Jeff just go album by album? Does he expect to keep producing until he sees otherwise or does he want a grand exit similar to that of what Jay-Z intended (where everyone gets hyped for the final album)? Would there be any possibility of Jeff and Will trying to figure out when they'd both be satisfied with their music careers and end each's discography collections the same way they started...one more Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince album? What are Jeff's feelings on possibly working with new artists, in that does he have any bias or resentment expressed by guys like Nas or Redman? Does the south movement appeal to Jeff or would he want a stronger implementation of the DJ scratches and less strings?

that is true, but I think its actually not being printed. I have seen He's the DJ a lot lately, especially at Virgin Records at Union Square, as well as copied of homebase at times, however I've never seen And in this corner or Code red, unless I special order them. yes, I know this is off topic, but yes...welcome to the forum once again, ha ha. I've seen And in this Corner and Code Red...more than one copy too..at Virgin Records in Times Square but no luck with Rock the House...I asked an attendant and she immediately said "That's way too far back.." and I was just stunned. "Late 1980's is too far back?" :wtf: (frustration) :wtf: I've heard of soo many bad stories regarding ebay that it just has me I guess a little paranoid lol. Someday I definitely want to get those last 5 tracks to my collection, but I'm holding out for some kind of re-release? or it appearing on a shelf of a local cd shop...
-
i did/sometimes rarely still do feel similar...but like everyone is up to helping you out with stuff (from getting used to the forum set up, to hearing the tracks you only heard of before lol) now that I think of it, when I say "sometimes rarely still do," it's more to the frustration that not even Virgin Records in NYC has Rock The House :shakehead: and although I heard most of the songs from it that you can't get on the greatest hits or whatnot are forgettable (supposedly Guys aint nothin but trouble?), I still would want to complete my selection without risking Ebay.

I had a copy of Shock Value about a week early and I was just appalled. It really reminded me of Press Play by Diddy...alot of inventive, but convoluted beats along with no theme in how the album was "shaped." At least Diddy took somewhat of a direction in who his album would appeal to. Timbaland just seemed to do too little with too much. Also, Timbaland attacking Scott Storch pissed me off because I think although Timbaland is great for the singles, an artist can really make an album off of Storch-produced beats. I think secretly Timbaland realized this, and that's why his album is so all-over-the-place so as to not just have 16 singles instead of an album. Well, I think he failed and only made a bunch of songs that just butt-heads with each other.

In just 3 years time this decade will be over with
Bob replied to analogue's topic in Caught in the Middle
a decade is 10 years and 3 years comprises a full third and change of those ten years..... i mean its like if i got a 70 on a test out of 100....it's not that close I don't know, I just think it's a matter of realizing that its really over a thousand days until the new decade...that's a long time relatively speaking... i don't mean to be cynical or anything.. -
hilarious...i love the pause...JEFF...DJ JAZZY JEFF. ah man i just keep thinking that after this cd the next one out will be a full cd reunion...i wish :1-say-yes:

i had mentioned this in my previous post... ya production was eh but i do like it...as long as he doesn't dilute his talent to just get the money...which i feel bump this..and maybe this song...are leading to...
-
even the best dj's can't do it... if you hear the juelz santana and lil wayne version of black republicans...the dj had to reverse the one part to make a swishing sound so he could mesh it into a repeating, somewhat good instrumental for them to rap over

MTV's Mixtape Mondays has a section called 'Hood's Heavy Rotation: Bubbling Below The Radar and it listed ~DJ Jazzy Jeff (featuring Peedi Crakk) - "Brand New Funk 2K7"~ so I searched for it and found that link! here's the MTV page if you wanna see the mention: http://www.mtv.com/bands/m/mixtape_monday/031907/ it also mentioned of a song by ll cool j and 50 cent "Don't take it Personal"...altho after some searching I found a stream of it titled "Don't take this personal" on hiphopdx.com...it also has the brand new funk 2k7 in stream form, but i'd thought this be better since its an mp3 you can save..

true, that's why i said "I'm partial" so i really can't comment on it....as I mentioned.... :smartass:
-
i'm partial b/c one of the first things i saw of Tupac was him (in a video i think?) mocking Biggie about takin his girl.. put a sour taste in my mouth..altho i have listened to much of his stuff and acknowledge his greatness...it's one of those things that stick in the back of your mind..
-
i loved the song when it came out...i remember watching the making of the music video alot.. idk why people hate on it for sure, but i could guess it was kinda separated in style from the rest of the album, and the rock theme was an experiment that i guess some people were not fond of

Bob replied to bart5's topic in Caught in the Middle
i took a minute to listen and i have to say the beat is very niceee the tempo's are just a little off, but props on the use of the cymbals during the verses to match the pace set by the vocals
