1. I thought so...but with the way alot of us have been disagreeing on stuff, i wanted 2 make sure. That waz hilarious.
2. I waz surprised that they had so many artists that deserve 2 be considered amounst the best. It looks like the best of best are getting the least amounts of the votes. When i saw the list, it waz obvious who got my vote....none other than the microphone fiend. I live Vibe alot. So many people they they are a bit mainstream when it comes 2 Hip-Hop and R-N-B, but the truth is, they are featuring more artists that deserve that attention compared 2 other magazines.
3. :bowrofl: Please tell me i'm laffing at this cuz i'm supposed 2. :bowrofl:
4. THANX!!! That waz great. Jeff is a Hip-Hop prophet.
5. I don't really like Biggie but if P. Diddy and Will are cool, i'm sure he could use a recycled rap if he wanted 2. I don't think it would make much sense tho'...Biggie didn't write stuff that would go along with anything Will writes about. I would love a 2Pac colabo tho'. I could totally see a track like "Afro Angel" being put 2gether. Since Will isnt' gonna allow any explict lyrics on his album, 2Pac could be possible since he did write music without cussing occasionally. Will and 2Pac were friends while he waz alive and 2Pac like 2 stir things up when he recorded trax, so if he waz never murdered, they may have worked 2gether in the future. 2Pac actually recorded 2 or 3 trax with M.C. Hammer back in 1996 that were never released...i've been hoping they'd come out forever. The murders of 2Pac and Biggie are actually what inspired Will 2 come back out. Hip-Hop and Rap fans were ready 4 some lighter, more fun stuff.
6. Hip-Hop is the only culture that musically has no rules...which is why i love it. U can be any color, age, sex, or from any location. Of course Hip-Hop waz born in the US, so the culture started out here...leading 2 the music. But the culture has spread worldwide and branched off in all kinds of different ways. 2 me, the things that make a true emcee is someone who can write good lyrics, develop their own flow, be themselves in their music (and in front of the cameras), and simply know how 2 perform.
7.
Depends on whether its a double LP or not
Who said anything about a double LP?!? :bowrofl:
8. The cool thing about Will getting on a good label is that we'll probably hear alot more music (better music). When he waz on Columbia, i don't think he had much of a drive 2 do music simply cuz they had 2 much control and were way 2 much about the business, money, and fame. Of course Will dosen't mind that either, but Columbia didn't care about his art...only his sales. With the right label, we could see alot more music from Will without such huge gaps between albums...not 2 mention more cameos on other people's trax.
9. I used 2 diss NSYNC so bad...but some of his newer solo stuff dosen't bug me 2 much. I wouldn't call myself a fan of his tho.' I've always like Usher...since 1993...YEARS b4 most of his fanbase formed. I love all of his albums tho'...i think they are all amoungst the best of the albums out at their times.
10. I think it would be cool for Will 2 sign 2 a label overseas. I think the US music industry is just 2 commericalized, controling, and money-driven. It's hard 2 wanna be creative and artistic when u are so limited by your label...ESPECIALLY in Hip-Hop and Rap. I know the music industry is pretty shady everywhere...but it's probably the worst here in the US. I think signing 2 a label overseas is a good idea. However, if their focus isn't done mostly 4 the US, i think it won't make much sense.
11. There isn't any way 2 make an educated guess. All we know is that they worked 2gether. How many trax are on the album vs. what direction Will wanted 2 take vs. ALOT of things just make this impossible 2 guess. I'll definitly ask Jeff the next time i get a chance 2 get a hold of him.
12. It'll probably take awhile 4 the old board 2 go down....after all, the old old WS board didn't go down until last year. I wish they would just take it down tho' so all there would be less places 4 fans 2 go. I don't think anyone expected a new WS board from Sony...afterall, he hasn't been signed 2 them 4 over a year.
13. Well, Mase has changed his life....if he's making music without all that explict garbage, i totally support, tho' i can't promise i'll like the music. I didn't know KRS-One became a minister...where's u read that at? I know he dropped that Spiritual Minded album awhile ago which i wanted but havn't gotten yet.
14. Yeah, Will came from a strong freestyling background. He must have been incredible cuz back then, u had 2 have skillz and talent 2 be considered good. These days people don't know what's good, they just but what the major labels pump out. I wazn't there, so i can't say, but i'm sure that Will + Wyclef freestyle thing waz more 4 fun and not a battle. I doubt they were out 2 conqor the other. Will said in an interview not long ago that he waz all about challenging Eminem, but that it might be a bad idea since he's writing, recording, and performing all the time. Will just has 2 much going on 2 totally submerge himself in Hip-Hop...which isn't a bad thing considering movie carreer and more importantly his family. Will is a legend and dosen't need 2 prove himself or lower himself 2 the level of defending himself...but i would have loved 2 see him get down and dirty and put that obnoxious, whiny white boy in his place...ha ha. I'm sure non-believers would be like "ahhhh...i didn't know he had it in him!!"
15. Thanx!! At least we know that he seems ready 2 put it out. It's very cool that he is calling it "ready" and that he did all of the work b4 looking 4 a label (total control, baby!). Since he's going out of his way 2 find a label now, we know the wait won't be 2 incredibly long. I think it's funny they talked about a "mega rap career" on Sony. BWS waz huge, Willennium did well, and B2R waz ignored...ha ha. I'm pretty sure Will has still sold more units w/ JJ+FP than he has as a solo artist. Of course the press wouldn't wanna talk about that. I don't know why people keep suggesting ATOJ. Yes, he would have total freedom and control, but it's just not a smart move unless he wants 2 be that kinda artist. Will just isn't the kinda artist 2 be on an independent label that can't back him in a multi-million dollar way.
16. This is really interesting!! I saw Blue Streak years ago and loved it (one of my fav movies). For those of u who havn't seen this Martin Lawrence movie from 1999, it features the actor who played Chet in Bad Boys as one of the bad guys in the movie. Anyways, here's the real newz...i finally got this movie on DVD. I went 2 peep the trailors, which only had Blue Streak and Bad Boys on it. Of course i couldn't resist 2 watch the Bad Boys one. For those of u who listened 2 the commentary on the Bad Boys DVD, they talk about a scene that contrasts Martin's wakeing up scene. Will's deleted scene had Will wakeing up with two latino honeys. Anyways, in this version of that Bad Boys trailor (one of the early ones...with cinamatic music under the whole thing...which takes away from the comedy of the funny parts), it actually shows quick part o that scene with Will and the 2 girls....i cracked up. Rent or buy Blue Streak on DVD cuz it's a dope movie...and 2 see that short clip from that deleted scene.
17. THANX!!! Those are hilarious. I think it's safe 2 say that's the 1st time a rapper has ever straddled an inflatable shark. Funny promotion idea. I wish i could have just saw Will's face when someone sat down with him and said "Will, i want u 2 ride an inflateable shark 2 promote this movie." Of course the fact that Will says he can't swim makes this funnier. I guess decisions like that are easier 2 make when u are gonna have a honey holding on 2 u. If only Jack Black waz riding right behind him (reminds me of that car scene in MIIB).
18. I always used 2 say Mase had down syndrom...ha ha...that waz kinda ignorant. I thought his music waz the wackest stuff back in the late 90's. However, when i look back on those videos and some of the songs, i like it alot better than the commercial successes of 2day (50 Cent, Eminem, Ludacris) cuz Mase waz kinda goofy...always dancin' and smilin'...he wazn't always trying 2 be this fake-thug like the people above. That joint he did with BLACKstreet in 1999 waz pretty good...but that Harlem World album waz staight garbage.
19. Yeah, freestyling takes the back seat in my opinion compared 2 making real music. Writing a song and freestyling are 2 different things. Freestyling is cool 4 what it is, but writing a song that means something and that can stir somebody's emotions and thoughts is what it's really all about. U can only freestyle 4 so long...good music is what keeps an artist and artist. After being an artist 4 so long, freestyling dosen't really mean anything anymore. That's why alot of legends don't do it...cuz there isn't really anybody for people like Run or Fresh Prince 2 compete with. They would be insulting themselves by challenging a new person who isn't on their level. Freestyling as a professional recording artist is a way 2 get attention...but not a way of keeping it. There are also different definitions 2 freestyling. The main meaning is simply flowing off the top of your head over any beat. But u can also consider being able 2 rap any rap over any beat. For instance, if Will lays down the rap from "Summertime" over 2Pac's "I Wonda If Heaven Got A Ghetto" instrumental...that can be considered freestyling. Some people consider any pre-written rap that isn't on any song a freestyle also.
20. What do ya know...now it's down here...ha ha. Here's a quick lesson 4 those who don't understand message board common sense. If the topic is related 2 JJ+FP, JJ/FP on TV, or Will's movies, then it goes on one of those boards....if your post has nothing 2 do with them, then check the off-topic message boards at the bottom.
21. "Soul Survivor" is a good album, but a few of the trax don't stand out the way they should production-wise on a Pete Rock album. Alot of the guest emcees are forgettable and not worthy 2 spit over his beats, but it's still a good album. Take Your Time, Da Two, and #1 Soul Brother are probably my fav trax.
22. Man, i couldn't stand Mase. He's probably pulling a Run...i'm sure he's still practicing his faith, but he's also recording again. I heard he waz probably coming back soon from some TV interview with another rapper. What's the song like? Is it his typical stuff of did he step up his craft? I'm interested in hearing his new song but i have a feeling i won't exactly be supporting him. Those who were around the WS board back in 98ish/99ish may remember who i used diss Mase back then...ha ha.
23. WHY IN GOD'S NAME IS THIS ON THIS BOARD?!?!? OFF-TOPIC MESSAGE BOARD PEOPLE!! p.s. Usher has been in the game since 1993, the answer is eazy.
24. Yeah, i waz just lookin' at it online the other day. Can't wait 2 hear the new stuff...espeically the stuff with C.L. I never got the Petestrumentals album either...i need 2 catch up.
25. That thing about Any Given Sunday is funny....if he wouldn't have done the movie, then him and L.L. Cool J would have never gotten in 2 that beef. I never saw that movie...really want 2 tho.' It's funny Puffy didn't get the part...then in Fed Up, Jamie tells the one boy in the movie that he is Puffy...ha ha. Jamie has his own studio and in a Daily Show interview from a few weeks ago, he said he waz gonna do another album.
