FABOLOUS "WILL SMITH" FREESTYLE
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince
I'm not really a fan of Fabolous. Lyrically, to me, he's about as average as they come. I haven't listened to all of his stuff, but I don't really remember him recording anything very powerful or meaningful. I feel like the only Fabolous songs I really love are the ones with good guest artists, or a producer who gave him a nice mainstream, Hip-Hop sound. His monotone voice and delivery is boring to me. He sounds so uninteresting on his records that I don't even think he's interested in what he's saying.- 4 replies

Kanye West Feat. Paul Mccartney "Only One"
JumpinJack AJ replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
The video has been removed. I saw that the song had come out but never gave it a listen simply because of one fact (okay, it's really my opinion): Kanye simply doesn't make good music anymore. Secondly (and this is a fact): he's an absolute douche bag, with a horrible voice, who hasn't written a good lyric in at least 6 or 7 years. I'll give it a listen the next time I come across the track since you give it praise...but I'm not going out of my way to look for it...lol. -
MACKLEMORE - WHITE PRIVILEGE IN HIP-HOP
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Caught in the Middle

I think racism is one of the stupidest things the human race has ever created. The amount of racism we see in the news/media/music these days is astounding. At the same time, I like the exposure it's getting for people to check themselves. I actually reminds me of the racial tension of the early 90's and how they lead to some walls being torn down. Hopefully all this nonsense leads to love. Any way, I though this article was really good. I haven't watched the video yet, but I'm going to watch it shortly... ---------------------------------------------------------------- Macklemore Participates in an Honest Conversation About Race and White Privilege in Hip-Hop By Jesse David Fox Earlier this month, Azealia Banks was on Hot 97's “Ebro in the Morning.” There, she discussed her issues with Iggy Azalea and the appropriation of hip-hop. It has since resulted in a heated exchange between Banks and Azalea, and a dialogue about race in rap music. To continue the conversation, “Ebro in the Morning” had Macklemore on the program earlier this week. The conversation is both candid and enlightening. Macklemore speaks as one of a select group: white rappers who have achieved mainstream success. When asked if he felt his race contributed to his being embraced by white radio and fans, he says, “Yes, absolutely.” He elaborates with a stirring string of questions (around the 12-minute mark): Why am I safe? Why can I cuss on a record, have a parental advisory sticker on the cover of my album, yet parents are still like, ‘You are the only rap I let my kids listen to? ... Why can I wear a hoodie and not be labeled a thug? Why can I sag my pants and not be a gang banger? Why am I on Ellen’s couch? Why am I on Good Morning America? If I was black, what would my drug addiction look like? He summarizes his point by saying, “The privilege that exists in the music industry is just a symptom of the privilege exists in America.” The entire conversation is a must-listen: passionate, thoughtful, frank. Macklemore goes as far as to literally break down how his music was promoted to radio, admitting that he went to alternative radio first as opposed to hip-hop stations. Though he refrains from discussing the beef between Azalea and Banks specifically, Macklemore does weigh in on what is at the root of Banks’s problem with Azalea (around the 35-minute mark), saying, “To me what it comes down is you need to know your place in your culture. Are you contributing or are you taking? Are you using it for your own advantage or are you contributing to the culture?” Watch below and try to ignore Macklemore’s hat. I NEED YOUR GUYS' HELP - BROADWAY WORLD
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Caught in the Middle
Thank you! Voting ends tomorrow. If anyone else willing to do it, I appreciate it. It's frustrating, because as I see my play approaching the number one spot, someone from the other theater gets the competition pushed up higher. I saw the show, it was good, by mine was much better. It sucks when the art goes out the door for voting games. -
LL Cool J To Release New CD "GOAT 2"
JumpinJack AJ replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
I don't care if J. Cole or Dayne Jordan are newer to the game; their albums are by far superior to the GOAT 2 stuff. It all boils down to the music, and right now, LL is NOT holding up his end of the bargain as an artist. -
LL Cool J To Release New CD "GOAT 2"

Rap-Up TV: LL Cool J Reveals Eminem Collaboration on ‘G.O.A.T. 2’ The G.O.A.T. and Slim Shady are joining forces for one epic collaboration. LL Cool J has revealed that Eminem will be featured on his upcoming album G.O.A.T. 2. In an exclusive interview with Rap-Up TV, LL made the big announcement. “Me and Em have a song. He just recently let me hear his verse and it’s crazy. He’s chainsawing ****,” he said. “I think people are gonna be pleasantly surprised when they hear me and him on a record together.” Em, who has been vocal about LL’s influence on his career, performed a tribute to the Queens icon at 2009’s “VH1 Hip Hop Honors,” but this marks their first collaboration. “It’s our first time we ever did something together,” said LL. “This is a record that I think people are gonna be excited [about]. To miss out on this G.O.A.T. 2 album would be a travesty for hip-hop. You can’t miss this ****.” G.O.A.T. 2, which arrives 15 years after the original G.O.A.T., will also include collaborations with OGs like Raekwon (“I’m Nice”) and T.I. “We just got together, talkin’ and vibin’,” he said of working with Tip. “He had an idea that he wanted to send me and I thought it was a crazy idea, and we collaborated and put something together that I think people are gonna bug out on. It’s gonna be trippy.” The 46-year-old rapper has kept his ear to the streets and tapped some fresh talent including Fred the Godson and Troy Ave (“You Already”). “I got a lot of young gunners on this album. People that are hungry and wanna make the best music,” he said. “It’s about the beat and the bars and the rhymes. It’s about it being current and fresh and riveting, not a bunch of old, tired ’95 nugget ring bull****. It’s newness. It’s fresh.” -

LL Cool J To Release New CD "GOAT 2"
JumpinJack AJ replied to bigted's topic in Caught in the Middle
LL is one of my favorite emcees and always has been, but there's no reason NOT to harshly criticize this material. While he's kept a nice presence vocally, SOME of the subject matter is weak and unnecessary. The real issue though, is the production. It's wack on most of these songs. It's borderline un-listenable. Sure, it might be better than what on the radio, but real Hip-Hop isn't played on the radio at all. Unless he scraps most of these songs like he did with Authentic Hip-Hop, this album is going to be very disappointing. The kids aren't going to be checking for this because he's not Kanye, but the Hip-Hop heads aren't going to check it either because the sound is so weak. LL should be ashamed. Period. It looks like these J. Cole and Dayne Jordan albums are going to have to hold me over for awhile. -

Horrible production. I like his delivery, but none of that matters when the production is this terrible. Only two of the songs we've heard so far are worthy of being an album titled GOAT 2. -
LOL I was WAITING for it!

I kind of hope they pull this off. Raz-B has been an over-angered idiot over the years. Omarion has gotten more musically sloppy/common. Other than Omarion, none of them have had any real solo success. The reality show they did years ago (that you can find on YouTube) never made it to television. Truth is, these guys had a lot of good R-N-B song in their time. Immature and Chris Stokes made a lot of their stuff great, so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with without them. With Omarion messing with idiots like Rick Ross and the two rappers thugging out some of their individual stuff, and Raz B acting crazy, it'll be interesting to see if they can achieve a legit sound that isn't trying to separate them from the stuff they did when they are younger. For those of you who frown upon B2K because of how annoying their fans were on the Sony boards, they actually did have some good songs...lol --------------------------------------------------- CentricTV.com | B2K Staging A Reunion in 2015? B2K Staging A Reunion in 2015? Could Omarion, Fizz, J Boog and Raz B be gearing up for a reunion album in the new year? Justin Dwayne Joseph Posted: 12/25/2014 01:15 PM EST B2K is reuniting?! Last week, when group members Omarion, Fizz and J Boog posted a picture of their mini reunion at a Los Angeles-area restaurant, rumors of the group's comeback began to churn in the mill. But it seems those rumors have been confirmed by a very unlikely source: Raz B. The group's estranged member re-posted the photo accompanied by the caption: " I Got The Call. We'll see what's in God's will...I've been pushing this for years..." NEW MUSIC: OMARION FT. RICK ROSS - BOSS Things between Raz B and his bandmates became strained after he stepped forward with sexual assault allegations against their manager and label chief Chris Stokes in 2007. Disbanded since 2004, each member has gone on to focus on solo pursuits, the most successful of them being Omarion who has charted a string of successful hits and is currently is the star of VH1's hit reality show Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood. During their run, the R&B quartet released two albums, the last being 2002's gold-certified Pandemonium!

I don't know if any of you voted, but there's four days left for voting. We are second in many categories, so if you haven't voted, and are wiling to take five minutes to do so, it can push us to the number one spot in many of these categories. Personally, I just want to see my show, Barefoot In The Park, win for best play. I'd also like to find myself hitting closer numbers in the best actor in a musical. Please consider voting in a next day or two. Thanks to everyone who votes! -
I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Let's celebrate hope, peace, family, acts of kindness, and for those that believe, the birth of Jesus. And yes, I'm replying to an old thread rather than starting new one.

Maybe I missed this news, or maybe I just forgot about it. I think we all know The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is based off of Benny Medina's life, and I know he worked with FP, but I don't remember the exact terms. I was on Madame Noir's website and came across this. It's interesting... Before Benny Medina outed himself, Will Smith caught wind that Benny was about to get himself caught up in a scandal involving accusations of sex with an under-aged boy. Will supposedly didn’t want his name in that mess so he fired Benny quick, fast and in a hurry. But in the end, things turned out pretty well for Mr. Medina. This is what an industry insider had to say about the situation: “Will fired Benny abruptly because a rumor was pointing to Benny as a man about to catch an case for sex with an underage boy. Allegedly the case remained under wraps because Benny handled it outside of the legal system. Benny was going to get exposed so he decided to come out the closet. Benny wasn’t happy when he dated Beverly Johnson, Beverly was his beard. Benny appeared relieved when he came out the closet, dude had a huge coming out party. It was like a gay parade, men dressed in dresses and Isht, Benny was wearing a wig that night and red lipstick. Jacky, when these guys come out the closet, they’re the happiness people you’ve ever seen.”

LL Cool J and Canibus Reunite after 17 Year Fued
JumpinJack AJ replied to Da Brakes's topic in Caught in the Middle
I was JUST gonna share this! LL Cool J And Canibus Squash Beef, Perform “4, 3, 2, 1″ At Barclays Dec 21st, '14by C. Vernon Coleman This year seemed to be the year of the squashed beef and with only days left in 2014 another deaded rift can be added to the ledger. LL Cool J and Canibus ended their long-time feud. Cool James performed at Hot 97′s XMAS Show Friday (Dec. 19) night, and brought out his one-time nemesis to perform the song “4,3,2,1,” which is ironically the track that sparked the genesis of their beef in the late ’90s. As legend has it, in 1997 Canibus penned a verse for the song that started with the line “Yo L, Is that a mic on your arm? Let me borrow that.” LL took offense and jabbed at the young upstart in his verse which lead to the beef that produced two of the dopest diss records in hip-hop history, “Second Round K.O.” and “The Ripper Strikes Back.” Now, all is well. -
Well, when I first read about this, I thought Fabolous was giving props to FP, but it's actually just a standard freestyle that doesn't say too much. It opens with FP's lines from Pursuit of Happyness and ends with a really weak metaphor. BUT, for those who care... http://www.xxlmag.com/rap-music/new-music/2014/12/fabolous-will-smith-freestyle/
