  1. Oh man! This is so good. Janet just put out her new song "No Sleep." It's so dope. It's not dancey. It doesn't have a garbage commercial rapper on it. Just a laidback R&B groove. I love it!
  2. 90's Hip-Hop is cut throat. You can't write this stuff... And here's a bonus...
  3. I saw that LL and Jeff performed at the same event within the past week, but I did read anything about them doing a tour. It really would be the perfect combo. Two legends who are still active and get crazy pull when it comes to an audience.
  4. Good interview. I would love to hear the stuff they did. "Got That" is the title of one of the unreleased tracks they did for Lost + Found.
  5. I love Kenny's new album, but haven't listened to it in a couple weeks. I'll be popping it in soon. MONTELL JORDAN + COOLIO - Payback This Is How We Do It (1995)
  6. THE TONY RICH PROJECT - Like A Woman Words (1996)
  7. CHRIS SMITH - Pray For Love (2015) This is dope. I really wanted Kris Kross to reunite, but Chris Smith's solo stuff is dope. It makes me wonder if they would have effortlessly reunited, or if they would both hold on to their individual styles and struggle. Chris Kelly's stuff was Hip-Hop meets Rap. Chris Smith stuff's is eclectic, funky, and original.
  8. One of my friends sent this to me in a Facebook message. They definitely made it their own.
  9. TLC - Shout FanMail (1999) EDIT: Adding the album version because I always thought the vocals were out a key with the remix...lol
  10. I've always liked this album, though I every fully pulled it apart. I'd listen to it frequently, but never fully got to know it. I never understood why some people didn't consider one of their best. Perhaps it was ahead of its time? I felt that it was the first PE album that came out at an age where I could truly appreciate it as a mature music fan. I still have the "Give It Up" cassette single. It's probably the most fun PE music video with Chuck D taking the lead. One of my favorites was "I Stand Accused." I love how they mock the current environment and address The Source giving them a poor review. I'll definitely listen to this album again soon.
  11. As I think about it, I'm not aware of many people using music streaming services. I feel like most of them aren't using one, but it's possible that it just doesn't get brought up in conversation. With streaming, you are paying for a service. I'm old school and just prefer to own the music. I wish the board wasn't so quite and passive. I'd love to know what others are doing.
  12. Streaming has never interested me. I'll always buy CD's for good music and purchase digital downloads for one-off silly/guilty pleasure songs. Older CDs aren't made as often, but there will always be some sort of new releases. With Kickstarters popping up and exclusive purchases being done directly though an artists' websites, it's just a different way to get music
  13. Wreckx-N-Effect Are Back, New Album & TourJune 4, 2015 by Houston Williams (@AllHipHopcom)Wreckx-N-Effect, the popular rap act of the 90’s, is back and ready to take it to the Hip-Hop game again. The duo of Markell Riley and Aqil Davidson had hit songs with “New Jack Swing” and “Rump Shaker,” the big booty anthem that still gets played. And now they are about to hit the studio and the road. Aqil states, “To see such an endearing response from the people and to ignore it – shame on us. We have to give back to that energy.” During the spring, Wreckx made a successful appearance on Tom Joyner’s Fantastic Voyage Cruise to a warm response. “Our bond goes way back,” said Aqil “A-Plus” Davidson. An unnamed album is expected this summer. http://allhiphop.com/2015/06/04/wreckx-n-effect-are-back-new-album-tour/
  14. This is dope. I was just thinking yesterday that LL is probably regrouping for the next album, which is good. It's been months since we've heard anything about the new album. Of everything we've previously heard, only two or three of the songs were actually on the proper LL. This production is great. The featured artists water it down, but at least this is the kind of song I'd listen over and over again.
  15. Here is the album cover. I'm not crazy about it. There's nothing wrong with it, it just looks old and stuffy. Here's a snippet of the unreleased song: Hidden Beach's Jill Scott Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/whoisjillscott?fref=tsJill Scott's official Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/missjillscott?fref=ts
  16. Jill Scott Releases "I Adore You" from New Greatest Hits Album 'Golden Moments'by Erika Benton-Martin Jun 5, 2015 22:01 PM EDT Jill Scott (Photo : Getty Images)Jill Scott is gearing up to release her new greatest hits album Golden Moments. She put out a ballad entitled "I Adore You" from her vault of previously unreleased music. Produced by Carvin & Ivan, the track finds Scott serenading about an overwhelming love. Take a listen below. As noted by Vibe, Scott's forthcoming release will cover her decade with the Hidden Beach music label (2000–2009) and celebrate the 15-year anniversary of her debut album, Who is Jill Scott. The sixteen track compilation will also feature digitally remastered fan favorites, including "Gettin' in the Way" and "Jilltro." Her last album, 2011's The Light of the Sun, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In May, Scott announced her 25-date headline tour, which kicks off on July 13 in Pittsburgh. "Fans have patiently waited four years for new music. When they hear Jill perform live this summer ... it'll be worth the wait," Shawn Gee, Scott's longtime business partner, said in a statement. 17. Awesome gifts! When it comes to their albums, I only have the the original version of Rock The House on vinyl. I mostly got the singles for the remixes and alternate tracks that didn't make it to CD singles/promos. I've meant to get He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper on vinyl for ages. The extended versions are on the cassette release too, which is what I grew up on, so when I finally got it on CD when I was 18, I was bummed about the shortened versions. I didn't know And In This Corner... didn't have all of the tracks on the vinyl version. The US vinyl single for "I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson" has "Jeff Waz On The Beat Box" on it...the extended version and the instrumental. :)
  18. Pictures from the release party just went up on her website; http://www.BriaMarie.com The only one that has surfaced with us both looking at the same camera is this one...I look so goofy in this...lol Both of these pix were snapped by Carvin.
  19. I just wanted to encourage the board to consider checking her out. As an artist, I really believe in her and can identify with her songs. She balances the R&B and Hip-Hop sensibilities perfectly. She has heart, wit, and talent. She just might make you fall in love with R&B again. She has a total appreciation for the 90's and old school/classic music. This week she was bouncing back and forth between Philly, DC, and Columbia performing and making appearance on TV. I was fortunate to attend her performance and album release party last night. She's become one of my favorite artists over the years, so I was hyped. I showed up to the restaurant that the album release party was happening early. BriaMarie showed up right after me, but I wasn't going to bug her. She was waiting for her crew to show up. After doing dinner with a friend and securing a good seat, she actually tapped me on the shoulder and called me by name. This actually meant A LOT to me as one of her supporters. Since my name is currently AJ on Facebook and since she couldn't see my face from straight-on, I was surprised she called me Adam. We briefly talked and she said she know I had all of her music. I'm guessing she was involved packaging all of the pre-orders of her album (I got the bundle for the new album, the EP, and her signed poster). She also said how they were pushing the table I was setting at back so they could dance. She broke into a dance move as she said, which made me laugh. The set started late. As they were getting things set up, they played Fresh Prince's "Big Willie Style." Yes, the entire album. It was dope. The crowd was grooving to it to...even the album (non-single) tracks. During the set-up, I saw that Carvin was there too, which was cool. One thing I love about the sound check, was that she did with songs she wasn't performing. If you watch the YouTube videos on her's and Ethical Music's YouTube channels, you'll learn that she doesn't like doing sound check in front of the crowd. She was just rocking denim, an Adidas jacket, and hoop earrings as she sang Alicia Keys' "Fallin'" and her own song "Respect." As they tweaked things, she joked with the crowd some. She and her crew (the Beam Team) were getting changed and prepared, her DJ played the album, listening party-style. Two of the children who sung on the chorus of "#L2LU" were at the party, as were her parents and other friends and family. The performance was dope! The speakers pumped the songs and the lighting added a nice ambiance. She was backed by her DJ, DJ Geek, a drummer, two background vocalists, and two dancers. The started the set with Laruyn Hill's "Doo Wop." They were GOING HARD in terms of the choreography and energy. She went on to perform Love The Way We Argue, Ex Factor, #L2LU (Learn To Love You), and Tell The DJ. Hearing her sing "#L2LU" and hit that high note while it was just her playing the keyboard was amazing. Afterward, her and her crew hung out in the restaurant where her team was selling CD's, posters, and T-shirts. Afterward I talked to her for a little bit. She just has a beautiful spirit and I wished we'd be able to have a convo without all the hype going on around us. We snapped a pic, but unfortunately I look horrible in it...lol. My old contacts had my eyes looking crazy. I was (and still am) exhausted from how little sleep I've gotten lately. Multiple cameras were going off, so we were focusing on different cameras at different times. It was during this time I also got to talk to Carvin. He was taking pictures during her performance hanging out all night, just making sure the night went smoothly. I shared some words with him and let him know I was a fan and had been following his work since A Touch of Jazz. He was appreciative and thanked me for the support multiple times. I think I was the only person who got a picture with him...lol.
  20. Just this week she released her first full length album, titled FRESHMAN. You can currently buy a physical copy (as well as her self-titled EP, and posters). The first single is a 90's throwback titled "Tell The DJ." I actually posted about this awhile ago because the single cover is A Tribe Called Quest/Midnight Marauders inspired and features Jeff's face.
  21. As you listen to her music and watch her YouTube videos, you'll see that this girl has such a positive, bright energy. She's classy, funny, and serious when it comes to her music. She dropped a digital EP that features a remix of "French Fries and Apple Pies," which still features DJ Jazzy Jeff here: http://www.amazon.com/Proud-American-BriaMarie-Fresh-Princess/dp/B00A504KL0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433566257&sr=8-1&keywords=briamarie Her first big (CD) release was her self-titled EP. http://www.amazon.com/Briamarie/dp/B00HG0F2J6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1433566257&sr=8-2&keywords=briamarie
  22. A few of you might be like "why is this being posted on the DJ Jazzy Jeff board?" Well, I suppose it COULD go on the Caught In The Middle board, but since she is part of the JJ+FP family tree, I felt it was best to put it here. For those who aren't familiar with her, she's a R&B singer/rapper/humanitarian who comes from Columbia, Maryland who moved to Philly (at least for school). There she connected with Carvin Haggins, the 19-times Grammy nominated producer who spent many years working with Jeff at A Touch of Jazz turning out classics. Carvin, who owns the Ethical Music indie label signed her as his premier artist. The dope thing about Ethical Music, is that not only is he holding high standards for the quality of the music, but they'll be doing it without all the common sex/violence/drug talk. BriaMarie's debut single features the one an only DJ Jazzy Jeff. You can download the song for FREE here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/clwq77dg1zz9zvx/French+Fries+%26+Apple+Pies.aif You can download, Leader of the New School, her first EP, mixtape, whatever you wanna call it, here for FREE through Ethical Music's Soundcloud:
