I got it in the mail the other day and I finally have time to write about it. Playlist: The Very Best of DJ Jazzy Jeff + The Fresh Prince is a collection for the fans. Many of you are underwhelmed because this collection is so similar to 2006's The Very Best of DJ Jazzy Jeff + The Fresh Prince, but I suggest you get over it and be happy that a widely released compilation is coming out in 2015, prior to their return. First off, the songs are REMASTERED for 2015, and as you know, there is no better sound quality than what you can get on a modern CD. Musically, it's more more rare offerings are the 1986 original version of "Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble" which was previously available on the 1986's original single release, 1986's Mr. Magic's Rap Attack Volume 2 (on CD), and 2006's The Very Best of JJ+FP. and the Hula Radio Remix of "The Things That U Do," and "Jazzy's Groove (Grover's Groove), which were previously only available on various cassette, vinyl and CD singles and the 2006 compilation. For US fans, this is the first time the T.L.A.C Remix of "Lovely Daze" is being released (as it was previously only in singles released overseas. It takes the original 1992 and tweaks it a bit for it's 1998 release on Jive's 1998 JJ+FP Greatest Hits. The highlight, of course, is the "Brand New Funk (Live At Nassau Coliseum)," which is the version they used for the video. This is the FIRST TIME it's being released on CD!! Previously it was only available on the 1988 vinyl single. While I converted it from vinyl to CD years ago, hearing it remastered on CD, blasting loud in my car for the first time, I may have peed myself a little bit. At such a great/low price, y'all should stop complaining about the greatest hits package featuring the greatest hits that we've already heard and get this CD for that reason alone. I do miss the presence of "The Magnificent Jazzy Jeff" and "I Wanna Rock." Since "U Saw My Blinker" was only ever performed live and not a true video/single, I can live with it missing. There's a nice briefing of their career in the notes, as well as the credits and chart positions. While I had looked at the chart position of their singles before, I never realized that And In This Corner...'s singles performed better than Rock The House's, even though many consider And In This Corner... to be their weakest performing album. I also noticed for the first time that "A Touch of Jazz" positioned higher than "Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble," which was interesting. Lastly, another thing that makes this release great is the photography included. Some of it we've seen. Some of it we've seen on a rare occasion, and some we've never seen. Check the pix below... As Playlist always does, they include the album or source that the song is from. They are always accurate when they do this. You'll notice the yellow sticker that comes on the plastic. Check out that Rock The House pic on the back! I've never seen it before! Check the pick on the back of the insert. The only time I've seen this Code Red pic before is when Jive flipped it and made it really blurry for the 1998 Greatest Hits insert and on the JJ+FP Greatest Hits Megamix CD and vinyl promo pressing.

Janet Jackson Is Back! New Music and World Tour Coming in 2015by Sophie Schillaci and Meredith B. Kile 9:27 PM PDT, May 15, 2015 Getty ImagesShe's back! Janet Jackson announced Friday that she'll be debuting new music and embarking on a world tour in 2015. NEWS: Janet Jackson Missing? Singer Responds to Flyer Claiming She's Disappeared "I promised you’d hear it from my lips and now you will. This year, new music, new world tour, a new movement. I’ve been listening. Let’s keep the conversation going," Jackson says in the announcement video posted late Friday evening, a day before her 49th birthday. The announcement comes less than one year after the 25th anniversary of the performer's iconic Rhythm Nation 1814 album. Since Jackson's last studio album, 2008's Discipline, was released, there has been much chatter about what's next for the singer. Just last month, Jackson cheekily responded to a fan's missing persons flyer that had made its way around the web. Twitter user @myvelvetrope mocked up a poster declaring that Jackson was "missing" from the entertainment industry, and that "We NEED you back." The image was shared by Jackson's frequent collaborator Jimmy Jam, while the superstar responded: "LOL. Too funny, too sweet." NEWS: Surprise! Janet Jackson Makes First Red Carpet Appearance in a Year Meanwhile, rumors about a comeback had been swirling, spurred on by an uncredited photo of upcoming releases purported that Jackson would have a new offering via Atlantic Records out in July. A rep for the label denied the image's validity, confirming to several media outlets that Ms. Jackson would not be releasing an album with them this summer. Days later, Styleite reported that Spotify had allegedly spilled the beans on a July 28 tour date at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Ariz., though the venue reportedly remained tight-lipped about its validity. Most recently, Jackson's official website shared an item from EST.1997 titled, "Is Janet Jackson Readying a Modern-Day Rhythm Nation?" pointing to the frequent use of #ConversationsinaCafe on social media. Details on what the new music will be have yet to be revealed, though Jackson's announcement tweet included the #ConversationsinaCafe hashtag. Perhaps a potential album title? http://www.etonline.com/music/164659_janet_jackson_is_back_new_music_world_tour_coming_2015/

Ice Cube Speaks On “AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted's” Social & Political Relevanceby Danielle Harling posted Friday May 15, 2015 at 01:15PM PDT | 4 comments Ice Cube says rappers shouldn’t be pressured into rapping about issues “they’re really not equipped or concerned to take on.” Among the topics discussed during Ice Cube’s recent interview with XXL magazine was the upcoming 25th anniversary of his AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted album, and the ways in which the project is still relevant today. The former N.W.A rapper was specifically asked how he feels about the themes on the album, from political issues to issues with police, being relevant 25 years later. According to Cube, the country remains under “a pyramid system of capitalism” and will only change if people keep fighting “the good fight.” “It just lets me know what I’ve always thought; the powers that be don’t want it to change,” Ice Cube said. “They want the status quo. Nobody wants to give up power. People will give up money but nobody wants to give up power. I just think that’s really what it is. And America, the system now that we’re under and that we use, is a pyramid system of capitalism. You’ve got the bottom and you’ve got the top. Somebody has to be relegated to the bottom of the pyramid, it just happened to be the minorities in this country who have been relegated to the bottom. And you have to fight your way to climb up that pyramid. And that’s really, to me, the issue and why it can’t change…I think that if people keeping fighting the good fight then things will change. If people sit back and be complacent and not really care then it’ll stay the same. Or not care until there’s an incident, a killing or a shooting. You gotta care when when something’s not going on.” In regards to rappers speaking up on current issues, Ice Cube revealed that rappers shouldn’t be forced to speak out on an issue they’re not passionate about. “…Artists should have the freedom to do what they feel,” he said. “So if they don’t feel like talking about it, they shouldn’t. They shouldn’t pretend to be something they’re not. They shouldn’t take on issues that they’re really not equipped or concerned to take on. Just to satisfy who? I don’t care how many records you put out about what’s happening in the world today, they still gonna play the booty records in the club. The radio station who wants to be so positive, all they play is booty records, they don’t play nothin’ positive. They want us to stop rapping about it, but they won’t even play it if we did. It’s crazy. It’s hypocrisy. Rappers shouldn’t deal with hypocrisy. Rappers should just be as real as you feel. That’s what it’s all about.” Lastly, Cube spoke on the lessons he learned while in the process of creating AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted. He says he learned about the technicalities of creating a record through Chuck D and was encouraged by The Bomb Squad to go through crates of records to find samples for his album. “Chuck D really taught me a lot about sequencing a record, how to put an album together,” the rapper said. “Because before, I would go into the studio with Dre, I would have a few ideas, but Dre would really mix that **** up, you know what I mean? Throw our ideas on top of what he doin’ and voila. But with the Bomb Squad it was like, our first lesson was, when we went to their studio in Long Island they had a shelf full of records, it was records everywhere. They just walked out of there with two old-school milk crates. ‘Here’s a turntable, listen to these records, find your album.’ I was like, ‘What?’ ‘Listen to these records and find your album. When you fill up these two crates with the **** you wanna do then we’ll start working.’ It took us 10 days to fill up the crates. So once we filled them up, then we went to Greene Street [Studios] and Eric Sadler started saying, ‘Okay, what y’all want to do with this?’ We had to write down everything we wanted to use, where it appeared in the record and the sample information. It was homework. Homework.” http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.33872/title.ice-cube-speaks-on-amerikkkas-most-wanteds-social-political-relevance

I tried to post the news this morning but my computer was acting up. I only have a couple of his albums, but he's undoubtedly a legend. Here's one of my favorites. 2 legends. 1 song.

XSCAPE TO STAGE REUNION TOUR!
JumpinJack AJ replied to JumpinJack AJ's topic in Caught in the Middle
Xscape is one of my favorite groups. I'm just as hyped about this as I was when Jodeci first announced a new album and tour. The 90's are coming back in a big way. I hope a new album follows and that they keep things together this time. -
Xscape To Stage Reunion Tour?Kandi Burruss is ready to “kick it” with her former bandmates again… Justin Dwayne Joseph POSTED: 05/11/2015 11:18 AM EDTXSCAPE is officially working on staging a reunion tour! Two years after Kandi Burruss announced that she would never participate in a reunion performance with the R&B group because of drama with one of her former bandmates, it seems she has had a change of heart. Sources tell popular Atlanta-based blogger Funky Dineva, that Burruss, and her bandmates LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott, and Tameka "Tiny" Harris recently met with Michael Mauldin, their former manager and the father of So So Def label head Jermaine Dupri, to discuss a tour. Burruss, who is now the star of BRAVO’s hit reality show Real Housewives of Atlanta, publicly vowed to not join her bandmates for any reunion performances, until Tamika Scott publicly apologized for telling the media that Kandi broke up the group by sleeping with Dupri. Reportedly, Scott’s apology was taped for an upcoming episode of TV One’s Unsung, on which the group’s history will be chronicled. The group, best known for its hits "Just Kickin' It", "Understanding" and "Who Can I Run To?" disbanded in 1998. This doesn't contain any real news on JJ+FP, so I didn't posted on the JJ+FP board. Andy Mineo posted this video this morning, so I felt compelled to share. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=995867867104998 If you wanna peep his style, he's the white guy close to the end. I'm not always a fan of his production, but he usually brings the lyrics.

I just thought this was cool. The nostalgia of looking at the list instantly took me back to specific times in life over the past 30 years (especially starting in 1990). A few of the singles came the Spring before or the Fall after, but overall this is legit. Kenya Moore Fires Back At Janet Hubert's ClaimsMoore: 'When it comes to my business I don't play.' Camille Travis POSTED: 05/07/2015 01:15 PM EDTFiled Under Celebrity Feuds, Celebrity News, Janet Hubert, Kenya MooreIf there's one thing Kenya Moore will fight for, it's her business. Just days after Janet Hubert revealed she was taking legal action against the "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star, Moore has come forward to address the issue at hand. Hubert alleges she was never paid for her work on Moore's sitcom pilot "Life Twirls On" and claims she's filed criminal fraud charges. But Moore is telling a different story. On Thursday, she wrote on Instagram: "I don't fight dirty and when it comes to my business I don't play. There have been numerous false allegations made from Janet Hubert regarding non-payment for her work on the TV pilot Life Twirls On and most recently criminal activity. Although Miss Hubert had been issued a total of 4 checks for her work since November 2014, SAG/AFTRA has officially determined that Moore Vision Media does not owe Miss Hubert any additional payment and all claims have been settled. We regret Miss Hubert felt it necessary to make relentless personal attacks by slandering the producers, however, we echo the sentiment of the producers of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and wish Miss Hubert well in her future endeavors. Life Twirls On premieres tomorrow Friday, May 8, 2015 at 8pm. Please go to Facebook.com/thekenyamoore or KenyaMoore.com to watch. Network premiere TBA." Such a convenient time for Moore to respond. But hey, you've got to take advantage of press-- good, bad or otherwise-- when there's something to promote. thekenyamoore7 hours ago I don't fight dirty and when it comes to my business I don't play. Will Smith Premieres His Deadshot Costume – to Resounding Groans By James St. James on April 30, 2015 10:18 am Find more: DC comics, Suicide squad, upcoming movies, Will Smith, wtf Gotta say, I’m getting a little worried about Suicide Squad. Not only is it falling victim to over-casting (with everybody in Hollywood getting a part), but we’re beginning to see some massive missteps in the costuming department. Just look at this mess. Will Smith as Deadshot is already a stretch. But THIS? WTF is going on here? Since when was Deadshot in Shaft? Where’s the red jumpsuit, wrist-mounted guns, and cool-as-**** metal face plate with the targeting device? Even OUT OF COSTUME, there’s no way Ffloyd Lawton would dress like a reject from the Wild, Wild West. I feel like the Powers that Be have been letting Will influence the character’s look (like when nobody had the nerve to tell Johnny Depp the Big Bad Wolf shouldn’t be in a zoot suit) – NEVER A GOOD THING. Get it together, DC. You ALMOST had me excited by Jared Leto‘s Joker reveal, then I remembered it was JARED LETO playing THE JOKER and went back to being skeptical. http://worldofwonder.net/will-smith-premieres-his-deadshot-costume-to-resounding-groans/

Have you donated yet? Time is running out!! De La Soul Defends Kickstarter Album: “This Is Not About Pocketing Money”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5VslWglQrMLast week, De La Soul released “God It,” the Nas-assisted, presumed first single from their upcoming eighth studio album, reportedly called, And The Anonymous Nobody. For Hip-Hop fans, this is a benchmark album before Heads press play, due to the fact it is the largest crowd-funded album in the Rap genre to date. One month ago, the Long Island, New York Hip-Hop trio offered fans an array of thank-you gifts and packages, aiming to raise $110,000 for the LP. Astonishingly, it took only nine hours to reach the goal, with the Native Tongues co-founders now approaching $500,000 in funds from fans. The costs of the album are associated with a nostalgic analog recording studio and materials, along with mechanical royalties for the 26-year veterans to sample their own past catalog, much of which is on their former label, Tommy Boy Records. Speaking with Vlad TV, the trio defended their practice in asking fans for dollars. All three De La Soul members (Posdnous, Maseo, Dave) spoke candidly, in addressing perceptions that they are either broke, or wealthy artists asking loyal fans for even more than usual. The trio never addresses their thank-you gifts (including memorabilia, tour passes, and extensive interactions with fans). Instead, the Da.I.S.Y. crew wave off notions that “Kickstarter is the new Koch” (as presented by DJ Vlad). They explain that they are over-stepping labels, and simply serving their base, with the kind of music and relationship that all artists dream of. At the 10:00 mark, Dave accuses the music industry’s decline as “cheap people, and free music” (something he also addressed on “God It”). The MC formerly known as Trugoy also adds that if De La were stingy, why did they give away their music for free last year? At 12:00, Maseo breaks some more news on that, alluding to the possibility that De La Soul was sued by their former label(s). “The server cracks and then you get a letter from a lawyer.” As groups like Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest, and N.W.A. have gone on hiatus due—in part—to label woes, is crowd-funding the wave of the future to break out the “slavery” system (as Dave calls it), and work directly with the fans who made them stars? Should De La have to defend themselves, when the numbers/results show the response?
