  1. The madness continues... Dawn Robinson posted this on her personal Facebook. I don't wish anything bad to anyone, but it seems like Terry and Cindy kinda deserved this after they've been so destructive to Maxine's career. En Vogue Sued for Millions After Label FlipBy Marc Schneider | February 13, 2015 9:41 AM EST Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images Rufftown Entertainment is suing two original members of En Vogue for over $300 million, claiming the R&B group violated an exclusive recording contract by signing with another label after recent comeback efforts fizzled. The suit, filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges breach of contract, negligence, interference and fraud. Rufftown owner René Moore says that he paid Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis and then-member Maxine Jones approximately $190,000 in 2010 in a deal that was to include two albums and touring. The advance included $40,000, plus travel costs, and $150,000 in studio fees. After the comeback stalled, Jones was replaced in 2012 and they later signed with Pyramid Records. The plaintiffs allege that in July 2014 the current members of En Vogue conspired to sign the new contract with Pyramid, in violation of the terms of the exclusive pact with Moore and Rufftown. Fraudulent and illegal documents were used to promulgate the contract, according to the filing. The lawsuit lists En Vogue Enterprises, Herron, Ellis, new member Rhonda Bennett, lawyer Allen Jacobi and Pyramid among the defendants. Jones is spared from the suit because she has "substantially performed her obligation under the agreement" except for elements that are impossible because of the "conduct of En Vogue." Moore is seeking more than $310 million in damages. TMZ first reported on the breach of contract lawsuit. Jones and another original member of the group, Dawn Robinson, briefly formed a new En Vogue in 2012 before a judge ruled that Heron and Ellis owned exclusive rights to the name. Since then Robinson joined the reality show R&B Divas: L.A. and Jones has embarked on a solo career, though legal problems forced her to file for bankruptcy in 2014. Formed in 1989 in Oakland, the group scored a number of hits in the 1990s including "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," "Free Your Mind" and "Whatta Man."

  3. I'll have to look around and see if there are any promo 12"s that have it. My 12" promo only has the Jason Nevins "Live On South Beach Dub" and Studio 54 Jason Nevins Remix. My CD promo only has the instrumental and callout hooks. It's not on any of my imports either.
  4. That's easily one of my favorite Babyface songs. Mariah's back-ups add the perfect sound. RICKY BELL feat. RON DEVOE - Have Your Cake Recardo Campana (2000)
  5. SKRILLEX, DIPLO, + JUSTIN BIEBER - Where Are You (2015) I freaking love this song. The video is sick!

  7. Apparently Jaden went to the San Diego Comic Con and went un-noticed....lol http://www.mtv.com/news/2205208/celebrity-secret-cosplay/ Jaden Smith Sometimes you don’t even need to be at a convention to rock your best secret cosplay. Sometimes, a hangout sesh with Kendall Jenner is all one needs to bring out their inner Tony Stark.
  8. Will And Jada Pinkett Smith Had Very, Very Different Ways Of Wishing Jaden A Happy Birthday Guess we know which parent Jaden gets his philosophical musings from. by Madeline Roth 7/8/2015 Even Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s famous, outlandish family isn’t an exception to the universal rule: on a teenager’s birthday, it’s your parents’ duty to shower you with praise, love, and tons of embarrassment. So when the admirably authentic Smith son, Jaden, turned 17 on Wednesday (July 8), his folks dutifully posted birthday messages for him on Facebook — but they did so with very, very different approaches. We Turned Jaden Smith Tweets Into Birthday Cards For His Birthday Mama Smith randomly decided to share a three-pic collage of Jaden being hugged by Drake (?!), and accompanied it with a lengthy, loving, totally Jaden-esque message to her son. Jada Pinkett Smith Facebook“To my son, Today you are 17,” she wrote. “It was on this day a tremendous gift was delivered to me. A baby boy, whose existence reflected back to me all the passion, curiosity, love and beauty that only a child could collect from the deepest recesses of his mother’s secret heart and breath it into the world. You have made the beauty I could only feel within myself… absolutely tangible. You were not only born from my body… but born from my soul. You are a light of my heart and a light from my deepest wishes. I am so grateful for you…” So, yes, now we know where Jaden gets his penchant for philosophical musings. Papa Smith, on the other hand, opted for a more laid-back b-day wish. He shared an adorable throwback pic of toddler Jaden perched in what appears to be a birdcage, which we’re sure present-day Jaden would now turn into some elaborate, pensive metaphor about being “free to fly” or some s—t. Will Smith FacebookWill captioned the pic, “Jaden is 17 years old today. I’m just glad he stopped eating paste!” Not to be outdone, Jaden’s sister Willow shared a cool illustration of her big bro on Instagram, which she simply captioned, “CameIntoThisWorld Day.” Oh, the Smith fam — a little artsy, a little sentimental, and a pinch of relatable silliness to boot. Anyway, those messages are great and all, but we still think Jaden’s own tweets make the best kind of b-day wishes. http://www.mtv.com/news/2207869/jaden-smith-family-birthday-messages/
  9. He's put out one the songs. It's good, but it's not on the level of his mid-90's stuff. If you liked the 213 album they released just over 10 years ago, you'll like this; that's around the time this sounds like it was recorded. https://bop.fm/z/soundcloud-213978735?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=www.vibe.com Warren G Debuts “My House” Single With Nate Dogg From ‘Regulate…G Funk Era Pt. II’ EP 38714000NewsBy: VIBE / July 10, 2015 Warren G is coming back to give fans another dose of G-Funk with the upcoming release of Regulate…G Funk Era Pt. II. The Regulator’s follow up EP to his debut project will drop worldwide on Aug. 6. “I feel real good that I am getting the chance to let people hear a lot of that sound that has been missing [in] hip-hop,” Warren G told Billboard. “I finally have records that I had in the archives that I put together to let the world hear some of that G Funk that they’ve been missing and wanting to hear for long time.” (via Billboard) Warren also dropped the first single, “My House,” featuring the late Nate Dogg. Fans can also expect to see E-40, Too $hort, Young Jeezy, Bun B on the project. http://www.vibe.com/2015/07/warren-g-debuts-my-house-single-with-nate-dogg-from-regulate-g-funk-era-pt-ii-ep/?utm_source=sc-fb&utm_medium=ref&utm_campaign=warreng
  10. On the 4th of July, I posted "I'm Looking For The One (To Be With Me)" on a New Jack Swing Facebook group. I did it as a way to celebrate Big Willie Weekend/Independence Day. The video post currently has over 35 likes and a lot of people are showing love to the song. Since the single didn't do incredibly well, I didn't expect so many people to be aware of it and to show so much love for it. New Jack Swing fans don't play around though. They are truly down for New Jack Swing and anything Teddy Riley has done. Anyway, I'm posting this because one of the group members has a list of Teddy Riley's work, and he said that the instrumental was originally intended for Wreckx-N-Effect and that their title for the song was "Summer Jam." It was done in 1991 and 1992. When they didn't use the song on Hard Or Smooth, the song ended up in JJ+FP's hands and it gave way to "I'm Looking For The One To Be With Me." I imagine that the whole "Summer" vibe is where the connection came from. They compared the song to W-N-E's "Tell Me How You Feel" and "New Jack Swing: Part II (Smooth Version)" that did make the album that have a similar vibe. Perhaps they didn't wanna overload the album with the smoothed out R&B songs. I've never heard the Smooth Version of "New Jack Swing: Part II." It's not on their albums or any of the singles that I have. I just wanted to share this. I'm sure a handful of you would find it interesting: https://www.facebook.com/groups/261205563932904/854357377951050/?notif_t=like
  11. PAPA'S CULTURE - Swim Papa's Culture But... (1993)
  12. I'm really excited about this. As long as he makes it a proper sequel by having the sound heavily lean towards the mid-90's classic, I'll be pleased. Even though I like a few of the guest artists, they are the only thing I'm a little stand-offish about. Between all of the Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and other West Coast classics from the early-mid 90's, Warren G's "Regulate...G Funk Era" is probably my favorite album of them all. I like its production the best and that fact that Warren G didn't really go gangsta with most of his lyrics. He's much more relate-able than the rest.
  13. Warren G Announces Regulate...G Funk Era Sequel, Featuring Nate Dogg RecordingsAlso features Young Jeezy, E-40, Too $hort, and Bun BByJazz Monroeon July 9, 2015 at 8:48 a.m. EDT On August 6, Warren G will release the EP Regulate...G Funk Era Part II, the sequel to his 1994 debut. Billboard reports that the EP, Warren G's first project since 2009's The G Files, will feature unreleased recordings by the late Nate Dogg, as well as songs with Young Jeezy, E-40, Too $hort, and Bun B. Discussing the Nate Dogg songs, Warren G said, "[Fans] have been asking for years; ever since he passed away and even before he passed away, they wanted music from me and him. It was a lot to work on records with one of your buddies, one of your best friends who's not with you anymore." To promote the EP, he'll play shows at New York City's Highline Ballroom (August 9) and L.A.'s El Rey Theater (August 13). 14. I don't see how it could ever be viewed as their "worst" album. TORI KELLY - Should've Been Us Unbreakable Smile (2015)
  15. ONYX - F*** Da Law Against All Authorities (2015)
  16. I like this. It's funny, I always think that I know virtually every Hip-Hop artist/group that released music from the late 90's to the early 2000's, but from time to time I'll come across or be introduced to music I've never heard. I often buy albums from used music stores just based on the song titles, credits, or the art work. Sometimes it's garbage, sometimes it's dope, and sometimes it's somewhere in between. I don't recall hearing these guys before, but I'll recognize their name if I see them in a store now.
  17. Jaden kickin' it with Speech from Arrested Development. Speech has mad respect for JJ+FP. I hope Jaden caught a performance and was impacted. After all, he has influence on FP's music....and AD is on that level.
  18. I just feel that those artist mean he's doing a pop album. I could stomach it if it were a two disc album where one disc was classic Hip-Hop and the other a pop, radio-ready. I just don't want the album to mediocre in case he waits a long time to drop an album again. Classic artists are coming out of the woodwork and they seem to get praise when they do what they do best. When they try to do too much that's new, the fans aren't satisfied.
  19. I read this and rolled my eyes so hard that it took them 20 minutes to get all the way around. I know it's all a matter of opinion, but working with Kanye West, Drake, and Calvin Harris is just annoying to me. I understand that artistic instincts make someone want to explore, but I don't want crazy experimentation. I was a classic Hip-Hop record. Kanye, Drake, and Calvin cannot help him deliver that.

  22. Maxine Jones Loses Appeal For 'En Vogue' Rights; Banned From Using The Name The former member of the R&B quartet loses the rights to use the name to bandmates POSTED: 07/02/2015 12:44 PM EDTFiled Under En Vogue, Maxine Jones, Cindy Herron, Music News, Dawn Robinson, Rhona Bennett, Terry Ellis, Music, EntertainmentThings just got a little more funkier for the "Funky Divas"... theJasmineBRAND.com is reporting that a judge has rejected the appeal of Maxine Jones, former member of the R&B quartet En Vogue, as she tried to regain rights to use the group's name for professional purposes. ARTICLE: Maxine Jones On En Vogue: "I Can't Work With Those Chicks"; Calls Dawn Robinson "Looney" Jones as been involved in a multi-year battle with her former bandmates Terry Ellis and Cindy Herron, who filed a $1 million dollar federal lawsuit against Jones back in 2012 for "illegally using" the En Vogue name to book shows. Both Ellis and Herron co-own the trademark. ARTICLE: En Vogue Facing $100 Million Lawsuit For 'Failed' Comeback Album Handed down on June 22, 2015, the court's ruling states that Maxine can never use the band name again to promote herself or any performances. The case was then closed the same day. Formed in 1989, the quartet featured Jones, alongside Terry, Cindy, and Dawn Robinson, who officially left the group in 1997. Both Ellis and Herron continue performing under the En Vogue name as a trio with new member Rhona Bennett. http://www.centrictv.com/entertainment/music/articles/2015/07/02/maxine-jones-loses-appeal-for-en-vogue-rights-banned-from-using-the-name.html I think this is messed up. I understand the legal side of things, but she should AT LEAST be able to bill her appearances as "MAXINE JONES formally of En Vogue." It's amazing how hateful the girls are towards each other. Some fans just aren't going to know/remember their names, so that little extra billing holds a lot of power. They need to be realistic, very few people will be supporting the girls when they aren't all together. Dawn Robinson is the only one who might have a little more pull all by herself.
  23. Quincy Jones: Honey, we have no music industryby Michal Lev-Ram July 1, 2015, 12:30 PM EDT Taylor Swift isn’t the only outspoken skeptic in the music industry. As legendary producer Quincy Jones tells it, the record biz is broken—though not beyond repair Before Apple and Taylor Swift and even the Moog synthesizer were born, there was Quincy Jones. Over the last six decades, the legendary composer and former record company exec has amassed 79 Grammy nominations (winning 27 actual awards) and produced hit albums like Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Today, he is involved with several projects. One of his latest? An online music-learning tool called Playground Sessions, which recently kicked off a fundraising campaign via Crowdfunder. But his role as co-creator of the self-proclaimed “Rosetta Stone” of music doesn’t mean he believes the Internet has had a positive affect on the record industry—a topic he remains as opinionated as ever about. Fortune caught up with Jones to ask for his take on new digital music distribution models and why he got involved with Playground Sessions. Read below for an excerpt of the recent conversation. FORTUNE: Is the music industry better or worse than it was 50 years ago? Jones: Honey, we have no music industry. There’s 90% piracy everywhere in the world. They take everything. At the recent South by Southwest [an annual music festival in Austin], they had over 1,900 musicians, but fans didn’t know where to go. You can’t get an album out because nobody buys an album anymore. What about some of the newer, online distribution models. Doesn’t that give artists more ways to get music to fans? That doesn’t mean anything. They sell 4.5 million albums and they think it’s a hit record. It’s a joke. We used to do that [sell 4.5 million records] every weekend in the 80s. Today, you don’t get paid. Why did you help create Playground Sessions? You want to see kids getting into music instead of shooting each other. I’m very frustrated with America. After being creators of jazz and blues, we’re the only country in the world without a minister of culture. Americans don’t know the sources of their own music, from bebop to doo-wop to hip-hop. We have only 12 notes. From Beethoven all the way to Bo Diddley, all of them had just 12 notes. That’s all we have and Playground Sessions is the perfect platform for teaching what we want to do with them. Do you remember learning music? Of course. I started at age 13 in Seattle, and met Ray Charles when he was 17. He was an amazing musician. It was never about money or fame back then. We just thought about what gave us goosebumps. You must get requests from various music startups and projects. How do you decide which ones to pick? I just go with Malcolm Gladwell’s book—Blink. And I’m not one of those “back in the days” kind of guys. I think when it all pools together it [the music industry] will be twice as good. And Playground Sessions will help bring it all together, it’s all there. https://fortune.com/2015/07/01/quincy-jones-music-qa/
  24. We've known it, but most people don't know it. They haven't heard the interviews where JJ or FP addressed it, so I thought it was cool that he said it, even though it's swallowed up in the quirkiness of the interview.
  25. I kinda don't like that they didn't edit out the profanity in this episode. It taints the fun, feel good vibe of the show a little.
