  1. This was fun to watch. Truth be told I don't ever recall "Freakin' It" playing on the radio, and only recall seeing the music video played two or three times. I kind of wish the waited to release The Will Smith Video collection so that it included this video. "Freakin' It" was intended to be the first single off of the album. I remember seeing traces of it being prepared before Willennium was fully announced. Timing the Y2K craze resulted in "Will 2K" being the first single. "Freakin' It" was easily a Columbia choice. They wanted a pop hit in the form of "Jiggy", but they messed it up since nearly every song on the album is better than it. Willennium was a great time. A Touch of Jazz was all over the album and Will spent more time in Philly for it's creating and promotion.
  2. I was just about to post the B.E.P. video. I think it's kinda strange that the film doesn't come out until January and they dropped a single from the soundtrack. I prefer B.E.P. classic Hip-Hop (check their last album, if you haven't), but I still really like this. I love the color in the video, too.
  3. GANG STARR + J. COLE - Family and Loyalty (2019)
  4. Classic Hip-Hop fans, in case you didn't know, Skyzoo + Pete Rock just dropped an album called Retropolitan. I ordered what I assume is a limited pressing of the CD and I'm vibing to it right now. I'm sure a handful of you will love it.
  5. I saw this on his Facebook. It looks like they got a lot of things right. There's a few "recreation" shots in there. :)
  6. I'm falling in love with this woman all over again... TORI KELLY - Coffee Inspired by True Events (2019)
  7. It looks like Scarface is hanging up the mic. It was strange, because I saw a Geto Boys farewell tour announced shortly after Bushwick Bill announced that he was battling cancer. I almost got tickets, but then Bill went to the hospital. The shows were canceled. Bill passed away shortly after, seemingly sooner than he led on. I didn't even see this news, which was apparently announced the same day Bill passed away. If you remember, there was news that he passed away in the morning, but then his family confirmed that he was fighting for his life. He passed away that evening. Scarface must have made the announcement in the middle of the day. He seems to have his focus on the right things, so I wish him success, but I still think he had another decade worth of music in him. Here's the article: https://beta.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2019/06/11/scarface-is-dead-geto-boys-rapper-says-hes-focused-running-houston-city-council/?noredirect=on ‘Scarface is dead’: The Geto Boys rapper says he’s focused on running for Houston City Council Brad Jordan, a.k.a. Scarface, at a benefit in Hollywood in 2014. (Allen Berezovsky/Getty Images for I.Am.Angel Foundation) By Orion Donovan-Smith June 11, 2019 “Scarface is dead,” said Brad Jordan. He may be better known by the alias he used in his hip-hop career as a member of the Geto Boys, the provocative trio that helped put Southern rap on the map in the late 1980s, but after announcing a run for Houston City Council, Jordan said in an interview Tuesday he wants to be remembered for a life in public service. “I’m not going to be a 75-year-old rapper,” he said with a laugh. "I’m going to be finishing my last term in office as president when I’m 75.” The Houston native, 48, announced his candidacy to represent District D, which covers much of the southern part of the city where he grew up, in an Instagram post Sunday. Four days earlier, current District D council member Dwight Boykins, whom Jordan calls a good friend, announced plans to vacate the seat to run for mayor. City officials confirmed that Jordan had filed his appointment of a campaign treasurer, although he has until Aug. 19 to file as a candidate on the Nov. 5 ballot, when all 16 council seats will be contested. Jordan said he had already set his sights on the council seat, which he sees as an opportunity to address the issues affecting the community where he lives, but didn’t expect Boykins to leave the seat for another four years. “But four years came in a matter of 24 hours,” he said. “When he vacated that seat, it was my time to go ahead and move toward that seat, because I grew up there, I know a lot of people there, I know what the issues are.” Jordan’s announcement came just hours before a fellow Geto Boy, Bushwick Bill, died Sunday at age 52, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. In his first Instagram post after announcing his run for office, the man formerly known as Scarface posted a photo of a smiling Bill. The Geto Boys rose to prominence amid controversy around the violent and sexually explicit lyrics they said reflected the reality they saw in their Houston neighborhood. In 1991, Jordan told The Washington Post that “Scarface is just a character.” But it was 1991′s “Mind Playing Tricks on Me,” a more vulnerable song exploring the psychic impact of that hard reality, that was their biggest hit. Jordan also released several solo albums as Scarface on the way to earning a reputation as an elder statesman of hip-hop. After the height of the Geto Boys’ fame, Jordan helped launch the careers of rappers such as Ludacris as head of Def Jam South in the early 2000s. His campaign announcement was met with expressions of support on Instagram from hip-hop artists including MC Lyte, 2 Chainz, Bun B and Slim Thug. But in recent years, Jordan has sought to move beyond his identity as an MC. “I don’t even want to be that guy no more,” he told Fox 26′s Isiah Carey in 2017. Jordan would be the most prominent rapper to win elected office, but he isn’t the first to try. The Fugees’ Wyclef Jean was disqualified when he sought the presidency of his native Haiti in 2010, and last year Dupré “DoItAll” Kelly, of the Lords of the Underground, got fewer than 5 percent of the votes when ran for an at-large city council seat in Newark. Jordan said his priorities include education and job training, reentry programs for formerly incarcerated people, and addressing the city’s infrastructure and vulnerability to flooding. He has already focused on those issues through his nonprofit group, the Positive Purpose Movement, organizing backpack drives for schools and employing locals as debris monitors when Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in 2017. “I’m super-passionate when it comes to the people,” he said. “This is the district that I’m from, and I recognize the problems. But I don’t want to point the finger at the problems. I just want to be responsible for the solutions.” A year ago, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner declared June 26 “Scarface Day.” After thanking the mayor — and his mother — Jordan seemed to use the occasion to mark a transition. “You know me as Scarface,” he told the council, “but now you get the opportunity to meet Brad Jordan. … I really want to let you all know that I’m getting ready to make a super impact in the community because that’s the most important thing to me right now.” Also see: Bushwick Bill, grim rapper of hip-hop’s Geto Boys, dies at 52
  8. That is my favorite version of "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)"...always has been. JOHNNY GILL - Soul of A Woman Game Changer II (2019) Here's a brief article on the new album: https://urbanbridgez.com/2019/08/03/johnny-gills-game-changer-ii-to-feature-sheila-e-and-duet-with-ralph-tresvant/?fbclid=IwAR2rt1x2_86aQTAeRnl7UPDlv3rmclQ15EnSuQZsR2fYggLtxPYA2UNm2FI
  9. Can you imagine how many hundreds of songs he has probably recorded since Lost + Found that we have yet to hear? The people he collaborates with either know the song will never come out, or that aren't sure if it will, so they just don't talk about it.
  10. SHANICE - Saving Forever For You Beverly Hills 90210 Soundtrack (1992)
  11. Big Ted sent this to me on Facebook messenger. I makes me wish they shared all of these videos. I'm surprised "From Da South" was a song he remembered all the lyrics for. So dope. Now millions of people are going to learn about it for the first time.
  12. Man, she is dope. I love the vibe she's on. Thanks for sharing. PRINCE - Gett off Diamonds & Pearls (1991)
  13. DJ Jazzy Jeff has been posting unused beats on a weekly basis. I think Big Ted mentioned them being on Jeff's Soundcloud. I've been buying them from his Bandcamp. https://djjazzyjeff215.bandcamp.com/
  14. No fronting here. Hip-Hop is only a portion of what I listen to, especially since the 2000's. I also don't believe in "guilty pleasures." Only the weak feel guilty for liking something. Hey, BEP dropped a new song, which isn't on their latest album....It's not as good as the songs on the album, but it's fun. BLACK EYED PEAS w/ SNOOP DOGG - Be Nice (2019)
  15. This may not be everyone's taste, but I think this song is dope as hell. MILEY CYRUS - Mother's Daughter She Is Coming (2019)
  16. Most of us know about this elusive remix. It popped up on a few mixtapes (on actual cassettes) back in 1997/1998. It often had the mixtape host screaming over it. It was never released, not even on a proper promotional CD, cassette, or 12". However, nearly 10 years ago, it was briefly available on Amazon digitally. I'm not sure about other digital platforms. The remix then disappeared. Since FP didn't have music coming out, I haven't been looking for it. However, I just noticed that it's back. For those of you who didn't get to buy/download it, and for those that are new to this remix, here it is. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073J35F29/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp Interestingly, the So So Def remix that was released on singles overseas was much smoother and featured LaTocha from Xscape on the hook. Here's a version of it that a DJ tweaked. The strange thing about the credits for this remix is that is says there's a rap performed by R.O.C. and that Lord Tariq + Peter Gunz provided additional vocals. Perhaps there's another version of it featuring R.O.C. (one of the dopest late 90's/early 00's emcees who never had his label released) and LT+PG on the hook.
  17. Remember when JJ+FP performed "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It", "Switch" and "Yo Home To Bel-Air/FPOBA theme" at Live 8 in 2005? The event was huge and featured performances from dozens of other artists. Well, they just recently released the audio. You can check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SG79DTZ/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp
  18. ARRESTED DEVELPMENT - Vacant Craft and Optics (2018)
  19. This is the silliest post ever. I purchased a few shirts and the key chain. I love that they are pretty old school and music-related.
  20. It's my first time on the board since this dropped. I'm really happy with this song. It'll hold me over for a minute. The early 90's feel is great, and the message-lite lyrics suits it. This is one of those things where FP went out on a limb and the results are glorious.
  21. I'm so glad they played "Switch" instead of one of the more common "go-to"s like "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" or "Yo, Home To Bel-Air."
  22. Yes! This is perfect for the end credits. DJ Khaled is mad annoying, so I'm glad that he definitely took a back seat on this. The music definitely has a late 90's/early 2000's feel to it. The way he says "never had a friend like me" feels like he borrowed from 2Pac's "Never Had A Friend Like Me." I get the feeling his going to let Aladdin be a vehicle to finally get his own music out.
  23. I can't believe this day has come. Like, I'm speechless. Honestly. I love the video. It's strange, but I feel like a lot of the things I always imagined about it were actually in the video. Can you imagine how HUGE this would have been in 1988!? Nancy, who on earth are you, other than an angel that has played a role in answering our prayers? This appears to be from a promo tape. I've heard that the video never aired, but I've also hear that it aired once. Based on the beginning of the video, this definitely looks like it was off of a promo VHS tape? Were you with Jive or part of the team that worked on the video? Man, I wish there was a master copy that wasn't victim to VCR tracking and deteriorated tape. The lighting in this looks incredible. The reactions and expressions in this video that are blurred are likely comedic gold.
  24. I previewed the album the night it dropped. The beats he's using are pretty weak. There's only one or two songs that really grabbed me. I'll get back to the album later, but it's not a classic.
