I don't think people are being negative just realistic. This is a very tough category and probably the toughest category I've seen in years. Forrest Whitaker is the odds on favorite because he's won every Best Actor award so far. I'd go with Peter O'Toole second because he's a 7-time nominee without a win. Leo DiCaprio is the third choice because of his body of work(Titanic, Gangs of N.Y., Aviator, Blood Diamond, The Departed) and then Will is fourth. There is an outside chance Will could win if the voters buy into the heartwarming story of Chris Garderner. There were some very powerful scenes in that movie and it could sway the voters to vote for the feel-good story.

The latest Soundscan numbers are out and Dreamgirls remains at #1 with just 60K units moved. A very slow week for albums sales allows for Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Young Jeezy to re-enter the top 10. The pure surprise & joy is that Robin Thicke's sales shot up 38% and is now in the top 20. I think this decline in rap & R&B sales are for a number of reasons. 1. No one can deny the age of downloading. Albums are "leaked"(I believe by record labels) to the internet and are posted everywhere. You don't have to go far on the internet to find the latest album. 2. Legal download sites like ITunes and Napster have given people control to buy the music they want. You don't have to buy whole albums now. You get the freedom to choose what songs you want. 3. The hip-hop community is at a crossroads. Like the U.S. I believe that the hip-hop community is divided. There are those who think that rap is fine and it's more lucrative than ever. Then there are those who think that rap has sold its soul and the only thing that counts is money. 4. Not a lot of quality, just lots of quantity and that's never a good thing.

Thanks Tim for the international numbers. Update: The official numbers are in and TPOH finished #3 for the MLK holiday with $10.7 million. Domestic B.O.: $138.1 million Foreign B.O.: $12.7 million Total B.O.: $150.8 million

I was happy for Forrest Whitaker and I knew going in that Will had little or no chance of winning the Golden Globe last night. It's another year where he's nominated but in a field where he has absolutely no chance of winning. To stack Will up against the likes of Forrest Whitaker & Leo DiCaprio is a tall task even for Will. Another thing going against Will is the fact that Whitaker captured every single Critic's Choice award for Best Actor including the big ones(N.Y. Film Critics, L.A. Film Critics, Boston Film Critics, Critics' Choice, National Board of Review just to name a few). Leo might win the SAG award only because of his "body of work" and not necessarily for his current role. It's probably best to be happy for Will that he's a 3-time Golden Globe nominee and more than likely a 2-time Oscar nominee.

Update: Despite losing the Best Actor Golden Globe award to Forrest Whitaker, Will Smith still has plenty to cheer about. The Pursuit of Happyness continued its strong run with a 3rd place finish over the 4-day MLK holiday. The movie grossed $11 million to boost its total to $138.3 million. The actual 4-day weekend numbers will come out Tuesday evening while the first international box-office numbers should come in by week's end.
-
Box Office Update: After 3 consecutive weekends at #2, The Pursuit of Happyness finished third this weekend according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. The movie, starring SAG & Golden Globe nominee Will Smith, finished with $9.1 million to bring its total to $134.4 million. The movie is continuing to show strong legs as it lost only 29.4% of its box office total from last weekend. It is expected to cross the $135 million mark on Monday. The 4-day MLK Holiday estimates will be out Monday morning with the actual 4-day numbers expected by Tuesday afternoon. Most experts did not think TPOH could get to $100 million. At the pace it's on it looks to be a lock to surpass $150 million further cementing Will Smith's status as a bonafide all-around actor and star. The movie ranks #13 on the 2006 Yearly Box-Office list.

I'm downloading it now to my laptop. Judging by the responses on this thread I have a feeling I'm gonna like it.

Update: Apparently people are fascinated by Stomp The Yard as it crushed the competition in Friday's box office estimates. The movie based on fraternity steppers(and I should know something about that having graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta) pulled in $7.2 million for 1st place. The Pursuit of Happyness finished in 3rd place pulling in $2.5 million to raise its total to $129.9 million. The movie could cross the $135 million mark by the end of the weekend and certainly by Monday for the 4-day MLK Holiday weekend. Also, TPOH premieres in the U.K. so we should start to see international numbers coming in early next week.

Sting & The Police - Every Breath You Take

I saw it last night and I thought it was a great show. Jada's speech to Will was very touching. I got the feeling that if Will was single then Bridget Moynahan and Eva Mendes would really try to get at him. Jamie Foxx and Cedric The Entertainer were funny and Thandie Newton was sensational(both in speech and looks). It was a wonderful event and a great award for Will.

- People who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom - People who drive entirely too slow on the far left lane on the highway - Politicians who try to act like they care about people(that's both Democrats & Republicans) - People who keep blaming "the white man" for their troubles(sure, there's racism but ultimately you decide your course in life) - Women who constantly complain that there are no good men yet continue to date "players & ballers"

For the first time since Christmas day, The Pursuit of Happyness finished outside of the top 2 on Monday. Not to worry though as it regained the #2 position on Tuesday. In those 2 days, TPOH racked up another $1.6 million raising its overall total to $125.7 million. Its 2006 box-office ranking is now #15 while its worldwide ranking is #36. European fans of Will Smith will finally get a chance to see the critically-acclaimed movie as it will premiere in the U.K. on January 12th and Germany on January 18th.
-
The actual numbers from the weekend are in... and they came pretty close to the estimates. The Pursuit of Happyness raked in another $12.8 million over the weekend giving it a $124 million total. It was the movie's 3rd straight 2nd place finish after debuting at #1. This movie has had unexpectedly strong legs due to its strong word of mouth and favorable reviews. TPOH lost only 33.5% of its box office total from last weekend. Unless something really strange happens, TPOH will cross the $125 million mark on Monday and looks to finish around $150 million as the movie begins opening overseas in the coming weeks.

I heard the song last night. It's funny and he kinda of ripped it when he rhymed in Cantonese. I don't like Rosie O'Donnell either so the diss doesn't bother me. To me the person who ether-ed her was Donald Trump.
-
The weekend estimates are in and it's another second place finish for The Pursuit of Happyness. The movie, starring 3-time Golden Globe Nominee Will Smith, grossed $13 million over the weekend, just a 33% drop from last weekend. The movie has now grossed $124.1 million since its December 15th release. Some projections now have TPOH finishing somewhere near $150 million domestically, making it one of the highest grossing films of 2006. As of right now, TPOH ranks #16 on the 2006 Domestic Box Office list.
-
The Pursuit of Happyness continues its strong showing at the box office. Friday's estimates are in and TPOH is once again in 2nd place with $4.1 million raising its overall total to $115.2 million. The critically-acclaimed movie is expected to cross the $120 million mark on Saturday and possibly the $125 million mark on Sunday if estimates hold.

Top 10 Soundscan Album Sales - 1.3.07

I have always liked Lupe. I think his Food & Liquour album was the hip-hop album of the year. I just think people have different opinions about it. I try to listen to the lyrics real close nowadays and Lupe's lyrics are on point. -
