Timbaland Says He's Done With Hip Hop

Timbaland is very clear about his intentions. "If this album does as semi-well as the last one, I'm done," Timbaland says. "I'm not going through the stress no more. I will do it for my fans and give it away for free." Timbaland says he is tired of politics in the music biz and he's losing his desire to sell albums although Timbo's new "Shock Value II" album just came out, which features Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus. "After my last album, I know where my bread and butter is at," Tim explained. "I know 75 percent [of the people who buy my album] are women who love Timbaland and most are the women who watch 'Desperate Housewives' and all those others. I did this research. It's the women who watch 'Sex and the City,' 'Desperate Housewives' — all the real go-to-the-bar women like Timbaland, and mostly European women. It lets me know that my fanbase is mostly women and they are from all cultures. So it's not a person who loves mostly hip-hop. It's a person who loves everything besides hip-hop."

Timbaland finished by adding... "I was done with hip-hop a long time ago," he said. "Once my generation left, I left. I do it, but there's nobody from my generation besides Jay who's doing it. I look at Lil Wayne as being from my generation. Some people are still acceptable. Kanye is acceptable from my generation." [Timbaland Explains His Audience - Watch Here

I was actually just wondering about how he feels about continuing to make albums in the face of low sales. The reason mostly women buy his albums is that he puts out singles that appeal to women, not that they're bad.

That said, damn near every person in this industry is afraid of Lil' Wayne hype. The article flowed very smoothly until all of a sudden Timbaland backs up on his own words to make sure he doesn't get run over by the Lil' Wayne hype train. Wayne's music is nothing like the music from Timbaland's "generation."

Ahhh...business wise and commercially, this is a good idea. What's is the popular face of Rap and Hip-Hop...it's certainly not real Hip-Hop. It's easy 2 see why so many legends are recording less. I got Timbaland's new album and I like it alot better than his last. Though none of his 2005-plus stuff has ever been as dope as his stuff from the 90's and early 2000's. I don't think alot of Hip-Hop heads or commercial Rap fans gave him much of a chance. I love all of the Timbaland + Magoo albums plus his 1st solo album. They are amoungst my favs. His old school sensibility in his lyrics and subject matter is also something I loved. I see where he's coming from. Commercial Rap (the mainstream face of Hip-Hop music) is trash. The artists are trash. And not many people from any specturm of the Hip-Hop fanbase ever gave him love (only as a producer...not an emcee or artist). These days music is all about trends and what's going 2 sell 2 people who don't demand much from artists. The females who are loving music for the good-time vibe are supporting his stuff so he's going 2 cater 2 the people who are appriciateing him.

I only listened 2 the new album all the way thru' once but I do like it. I hate missing the old sound and the old formula of music. I'd like 2 have him team up with Magoo again for Hip-Hop albums and then do these mainstream albums for his solo ones. We'll see what happens.

This is not the first time that Timbo said he's done with hip hop... You know what, I don't get it either how these legendary hip hop artists could say the game's messed up and praise rappers like Lil' Wayne and 50 Cent in the same sentence when it's obvious they're the main ones fouling the game up

50 has made some dope stuff that a lof of people reespect him for.. And Lil Wayne, as much as I hate his stuff, can spit some complex lyrics with various flows, if he wants too.. I mean, if you wanna put the blame on somebody, it should be acts like Gucci Mane and so on lol

Timbaland said he was only gonna make beats for his personal friends in the industry a few years back (2002ish). He said he loves music but he was sick of the commercialism and sick of wishing he gave some of his best beats 2 artists who were his close friends. WIthin years that turned arouond and his popularity was in fire again after a short dry spell. He's not a singer so he's always going to rap. I guess he's just saying he's not gonna make straight Hip-Hop music. I remember when Under Construction II came out, I was surprised because I didn't even know he's was working on another Timbaland + Magoo album. I was surprised that Magoo wasn't on this new album at all. Music isn't going to stay like this. It's always evolving and Timbaland has always adjusted 2 the times which is why he's still around and going strong. It's only a mater of time until he comes full circle.

And the dirty south's hold on commercial Rap is a main factor in everything sucking. Generally speaking, dirty south/crunk commercial Rap is ridiculous. The production is usually minimalistic trash. The quality lyrics and subject matter are non-existant. You can't even take them seriously as people because half of them dress and carry themselves as total fools. And lastly, they go out of their way to speak in a way that makes it sound like they never took and english class in their life. I mean, can any understand what Lil' Wayne, The Ying Yang Twins, etc are actually saying? They sound like they have a speech impediment.
