Pretty Girls is Pretty Awful

This is seriously one of the worst tracks Will has ever released. What was he thinking? Bad beat, horrible lyrics and horrible concept. I feel like he has killed his musical comeback with this rubbish. Very disappointing. How did no one near him not tell him this song is awful.

I get what he's trying to do. It's a song made for TikTok and social media. He's trying to stay relevant, he's riding trends. It doesn't appeal to the old skool Hip Hop heads like most of us. We're all hoping he will get back in the lab with Jeff but he's just having fun and trying things.

I could see this blow up on TikTok and other social media. It's got a catchy hook and a fun beat. Lyrics are basic club rap, it's better than First Love in my opinion.

Yep, this is going to get destroyed.

And it's a total 180 from BOATS. I can only imagine the lack of sales and streams has pushed him into thinking he needs to be more commercial.

It’s a cynical play for dumb tik tokkers- I don’t mind Will doing some fun rap but this is not it. I mean he is capable of making something like Summertime - this has no substance and just straight bad. I always defend Will but I can’t defend this record.

Will Smith is officially back in the music game — and he’s bringing the sunshine. After a long hiatus from the music scene, the global star drops a fun, carefree new track titled “Pretty Girls”, featuring up-and-coming rapper OBanga.

Blending nostalgic ’90s energy with a fresh 2025 urban twist, “Pretty Girls” is exactly what its title promises: a breezy, danceable tribute to summer, fun, and — of course — the girls who light up the season. With a rhythmic beat laced with dancehall influences and smooth, catchy hooks, the track is tailor-made for beach parties, car rides with the windows down, and TikTok dance clips.

Will Smith keeps things light and playful, sticking to his signature clean style: positive vibes, cheeky humor, and effortlessly likable charisma. There’s no need for bravado here — just feel-good rhymes and a groove you can’t help but move to.

Meanwhile, OBanga injects the song with modern street flavor and energetic flow, offering a cool contrast that keeps the track dynamic and relevant. His presence adds that necessary edge, helping “Pretty Girls” land comfortably between throwback charm and contemporary heat.

Though not meant to be deep or groundbreaking, “Pretty Girls” succeeds as a sunny, feel-good soundtrack to summer 2025 — and marks a confident step in Will Smith’s musical reawakening. Expect buzz, smiles, and replay buttons getting worn out.

I think one of the reasons for lack of sales is the fact that Will hasn't put out any new music for the last 20 years. Because he's gone so long without releasing new music then people are going to forget/lose interest about his music career and there are now people who don't even know he's a rapper.

If he had just kept the music alive even if it was just releasing one new song a year on Spotify/iTunes then maybe things would be different now.

The lack of sales are mainly due to the music being garbage and everyone realizing that Will is just an insecure man looking for validation from tik tokers and his wife's boyfriends, but I get your point...

OK, I don't like the song, BUT...

There seems to be a real anti Will agenda right now online. It started with the Lyrical Lemonade freestyle and it's continuing here.

WHY ARE NEW ACCOUNTS JOINING THE BOARD TO POST THE SAME HATE POSTS IN MULTIPLE TOPICS?

Is it AI? Are these even real people? What's going on?

I'm not gonna lie. I'm struggling with it. I knew I would when I first saw the teaser.  Those opening notes told me I wasn't going to love the sound.  When the beat drops in, it's not so bad, but it sounds like something from the 2010's... a low point for music, generally speaking. If he was going to do a house-inspired song, maybe have Jeff and Masters At Work get on the beat.

There are a few Fresh Prince style lyrics here, but some of this lyrics are quite dumb, which prevents them for making up for the beat. There is an audience for this, but it's not for me. The music video continues the struggle. There are some fun moments in it, but it's also a bit hard to swallow.

As I type this, I'm realizing my own hypocrisy. One of the things about Rave In The Wasteland that has had me listening to it less than I have his other albums, or at least skipping through it more, is that so much of it serious. There's a time and place for that, but I'm not always in a serious mood.  "Pretty Girls" provides a contrast. Maybe just not the contrast I prefer. I'm also still struggling with some of the language. Like, why drop the f word in a song like this?  At this point, he's just doing it as carelessly as other rappers.

Why a music video for this? I feel like if he did a video for "Hard Times (Smile)", it would have been a better investment and generally loved.  This song is polarizing, as seen in the comments everywhere.  As few music videos as we get, I kind of hate that it was wasted on this song.

As for these weird posts, I don't know.  They've been happening for months. The ones that are clearly spam get deleted, but the ones that are weird, but possibly made by real people have stayed. As one of the moderators, I struggle with whether they are bots and should be deleted/banned.

Not random bots. I've been a fan since Big Willie Style. Just couldn't recover my account and created a new one. It's not hate, it's just facts, as hard as they are to accept!

Ask yourself, why would there be an "anti Will agenda", that makes no sense whatsoever. The reality is Will Smith USED to be one of the most beloved entertainers in THE WORLD and now nobody can't stand him or his messed up life. Deal with it!
