Wyclef's Presidential Bid Confirmed by Source

According to reports, Wyclef Jean has confirmed that he will run for president of Haiti in this year's election.

The 37-year-old rapper/activist was integral in the fund-raising after his home country's tragic earthquake earlier this year, raising over $10 million via his Yele Haiti foundation, and inspiring countless artists to support the country's cause.

Wyclef was rumored to be running for office earlier this week, but sources close to him claim that he will be making his official announcement on August 5.

The former Fugees member was born in Haiti in 1972, and immigrated to Brooklyn at the age of 9, before settling in northern New Jersey, where he formed his revered group with Lauryn Hill and Praz. He has sold millions of records, both as a solo artist and with his former group, and has collaborated with everyone from Shakira and Santana to Pharoahe Monch.

The Haitian election will take place on November 28, and it is predicted that 'Clef will win voting by a landslide, due to his wild popularity and influence in his home country.

"I think if Wyclef is allowed to run he will have a straight victory," former presidential candidate Himmler Rebu told Reuters.

Wyclef also has support from his uncle, Raymond Alcide Joseph, who has been Haiti's ambassador to the U.S. since 2005, and worked with his nephew to raise funds for victims of the earthquake.

At least he seems to care.. Most of the money given by the world to haiti just suddenly dissapeared and them hospitals have to close there because of lack of resources.. That country needs desperately of somebody who cares..

I'm really not into politics so I don't know what kind of opinion to have. He is very intelligent and has educated himself over the years. What kind of history does Haiti have when it comes to government? I don't know that he would do a bad job. It's a very interesting idea.

To resume it all: Im Dominican, I used to live near Haiti so Im really familiar with all the situation and history there.. Most presidents of Haiti, get the money, share it between them and then Jet out to another country to feel safe.. Thats one of the main reasons Haiti hasnt been able to come out of where it is.. Corruption.
