MC Hammer - Too Tight

Recommended Posts

I've been on an MC Hammer trip the past week. I know there are a handful of other Hammer fans here i figured i'd share this. For those that don't know, MC Hammer was working with Deathrow in 1996 after he got off Giant Records. He was good friends with 2Pac and Suge so he went 2 Deathrow 2 pick up the unpromoted pieces of his previous album (my favorite "V: Inside Out"). I never knew any of the songs from the album, titled "Too Tight" got leaked...but they did. And here is the trax i've found on YouTube. 2Pac and Big Daddy Kane are on the 1st track i listed. 2Pac wrote "Unconditional Love" (one of my favorite 2Pac songs) with MC Hammer in mind and Hammer actually recorded it himself, tweeking a few of the lyrics. The last link has 2Pac in the studio during one of the sessions for the album. For those that care, enjoy.

Ha ha...i'm glad another Hammer fan jumped on this post...ha ha. I waz feeling pretty lonely for a minute. Jim is the only other MC Hammer fan that i really remembered being on this board and waz waiting for his opinion. Deathrow sucks as a label. I mean, they only released like 15 albums...out of the 100 plus they intended 2. Even though MC Hammer represented a whole nother vibe then the rest of the roster, they all supported him for what he did without trying 2 change him. MC Hammer released an all gospel Hip-Hop record in 1998 so i'm not sure what happened between the 2 albums. I bet 2Pac's death waz the main reason he left. The Family Affair album is crazy rare (i think i saw it on ebay for $600 recently). I found a copy and i'm praying it's not a bootleg or CD-R cuz i spend a bit of money for it. I found a leaked version of Too Tight as well and should receive both in the mail this week. I really wish he'd put another album 2gether for an organized label soon. He has some decent trax up on his myspace right now.

Thanks for this AJ. I def. didnt know Hammer was signed to Death Row. Hammer is a smart dude and def fits that whole Death Row/2pac mid 90s sound. I love all that producing - I think the majority of 2pac's beats are timeless (more so the Me Against the World to the later Death Row material and unreleased trax). Damn shame this album was never released! Hammer isn't the best rapper but hes def a fun rapper to listen too even tho I def wouldn't put him in my top 10 but dude has got talent.

Yeah, just has a the vibe of the time. Having MC Hammer, Big Daddy Kane, and 2Pac all on the same track is an unpredictable mix but i like the way they sound 2gether.

I got "Too Tight" for less than $20 before shipping. I don't know how rare the promos or leaked copies are but i've never seen one before. The album cover was obviously doctored unless Deathrow created it just 2 serve as a working cover (it waz a pic of him in a suit with the Deathrow chain on. The CD itself looked 100% real in the pic with the tracklisting and the Deathrow logo. It wasn't like a label or anything. I have heard of mixtape versions of the album that have mix DJ's shouting crap all over it but the one i'm getting is supposed 2 be the real deal. I'll post a full album review with i get it.

hey AJ don't forget that I like MC Hammer too, i think less people should hate and appreciate what he brings 'cause he's definately real hip hop, i enjoy his energy, thanks for posting this stuff, definately a different sound but effective, too bad it wasn't offically released

Yeah, he'll always be one of my favs. Unfortunately some of his newer stuff is a bit off since he's always trying 2 find it place. I've always admired that he's stayed true 2 himself and not sold out, reguardless of what anyone else is doing. He just doing what he can 2 adapt 2 the times without selling his soul. I feel that if he got a deal with a major label again, he'd be doing things that he can't do under his own control or the people that he works with.
