  1. I don't know how all that works. All I know is that I don't know of any one who just decides to be a pastor and is one without any schooling and serious dedication. I've seen MC Hammer speak (on TV) and I know he's the real deal. Montell has always shown a serious dedication to his faith. So I can see that being legit to. I've also seen Rev Run speak on TV. But when it comes to Mase, it's hard for me to see that being legit. So much of his music reflected a lifestyle that had NOTHING to do with the church. Plus, after he did that album with Bad Boy where he didn't cuss, he turned right around and went "gangsta" again. I'm not a fan so I haven't heard anything since.
  2. This article goes a little deeper. ---------------------------------------------- Calling it Quits: Montell Jordan Leaving R&B Music for Ministry By Jawn Murray on Nov 30th 2010 10:10AM Singer Montell Jordan is giving up mainstream music to work in music ministry. Best known for his R&B smash 'This is How We Do It,' the 41-year-old vocalist recently announced he is retiring from R&B to become the Worship Pastor at the World Victory Church in Norcross, Ga. "It's just been an amazing career. And it has been great," Jordan posted on his Twitter page via @MontellJordan. "But it's a calling that's probably been with me all my life since I was a child. And I've known it. A lot of people in the business know it and have the same calling but that leap of faith is difficult." The Los Angeles-bred artist, who as a songwriter has penned tunes for Whitney Houston, Sisqo, Deborah Cox and Lil' Mo, also thanked a lot of people for contributing to his career. "I also would especially like to thank the countless fans I have met throughout the last 17 years all over the world for your support. I additionally would like to thank radio, retail, and the talented musicians, songwriters, producers. ... I want to thank the original Def Jam staff for our many great years and success we shared together," he wrote. Montell Jordan Jordan acknowledged that he's had a call to ministry for many years, but surrendering to what he believes is God's will for his life is "a leap" he finally had to take. "I often have spoken of my Christian belief and faith throughout my R&B career, yet this is my official retirement letter," he explained. "I have completely dedicated my life to the service of Christ Jesus, my Lord and Savior." Montel with wife KristinIn addition to working as the worship leader at World Victory Church, the singer and his wife, Kristin, will continue to work in the church's marriage ministry, teaching a course called "Making Your Marriage a Masterpiece," which the singer called "gratifying." Jordan, who starred in the movie 'The Fighting Temptations,' released seven CDs during his career, including 'Let it Rain' on Oct. 21, 2008. Earlier this year, he released a single called 'Friends, Liars & Haters' that was to be featured on a CD titled 'F.L.H (Friends, Liars & Haters).' It's unlikely that the CD will be released now. "It is my desire that my life and future music will reflect my Father in heaven and that those who have known me [through] R&B music will now be introduced to a great, loving and wonderful God," he concluded.
  3. I don't think that was ever in the cards for Montell. He's often done gospel songs on his albums. He was also in the movie Fighting Temptations with Beyonce and The O'Jays. Don't mix him up with the Lil' Waynes and T.I.'s....lol.
  4. I realized I forgot to include the title in the post above. It's titled "This Christmas." The album did pretty good back in it's time. They remastered it and re-released it just a few years later. The rest of the songs on the album are traditional covers yet the fellas breathe new life into the songs with their harmonies. 98 DEGREES - O Holy Night
  5. Just this week they released A Very Special Christmas Volumes 1, 2, plus a DVD in a set. It's specially price and u can even get it at Best Buy this week for just $9.99. Even tho' I had both volumes I bought it for the DVD since it was such a good price. Plus the copies I bought were used....now I can just give them 2 friends. Another Christmas album I've always loved it 98 Degrees' . Some people hear 98 Degrees and think "late 90's boyband. I even thought that until I gave them a listen. They are essentially on the level of Boyz II Men. They started out as an R-N-B group signed to Motown. They'd get booked at black clubs and the BET Soundstage because the venues hear their music and thought they were 4 black guys...lol. Then they'd show and confuse the venue. Anyways, there Christmas album is great in my opinion. I can't stand the song "Little Drummer Boy" and 98 Degrees are the ONLY group that make me think it's okay. 98 DEGREES - This Gift (This is a live version of the single that supported the album) 98 DEGREES - Christmas Wish
  6. MONTELL JORDAN - You Must Have Been (self-titled / Import) (2001) Ted, your post has me all worked up...lol.
  7. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Montell Jordan is one of the best to ever do it. His vocals, his style, his production, his lyrics. To me, Montell Jordan was the male Mary J. Blige. He was essentially and emcee who sung...and dropped a rhyme every now and then. I guess since he hasn't had much mainstream success in recent years, he figured it'd be a good time to make this move. I support it but I wish he'd bless the fans with an album every now and then. Even if he just made gospel music, I think he's been given a gift that he should be using. I wish I could catch him perform before he hangs up the mic.
  8. MARIAH CAREY - Oh Santa! Merry Christmas II You (2010)
  9. This list is funny and true at the same time....as things are often funny because they are true. One thing is for sure, I will still diss Soulja Boy because everything about him is garbage, I will diss Kanye as long as he acts like an idiot and I will say that I miss the golden age of Hip-Hop as long as the current mainstream look of things are half as bad as they are...lol.
  10. Love this! I don't think Jeff is EVER coming to Maryland. Next time he's in NJ, let me know. I'm going with you! lol
  11. In 2005 they released an album "Winter Reflections" overseas (only in Japan, I think). One disc is regular songs, the other disc is Christmas music. Unfortunately the 2 best tracks aren't on YouTube. Here's 2 of the songs off it. Oh Come Oh Come Emanuel The Christmas Song
  12. DO THEY KNOW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTgY4Tb0-Ok&feature=related In 1998 they appeared on Brian McKnight's "Let It Snow '98." I can't believe if, but nobody has it up on YouTube. It's the smoothest Christmas song I've ever heard.
  13. I've never been into Jimmy Eat World, but I kinda like that song. Boyz II Men's "Christmas Interpretations" is my favorite Christmas album of all time. I think it's flawless from start to finish. The sound is amazing and I love that songs (other than "Silent Night") are all original. "Let It Snow" is a classic. I remember when it 1st was aired on MTV. Their appearance on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air just hyped the album up even more. I think their 1st Christmas song was on A Very Special Christmas and this album followed a year or so later. WHY CHRISTMAS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qKTykQjaIM COLD DECEMBER NIGHTS
  14. Run-DMC's "Christmas In Hollis" is the 1st holiday record I throw on every year. I like that a few years later they came out with "Christmas Is." In my opinion, it's one of the best beats they ever rhymed over. I can't believe it wasn't more of a hit after what "Christmas In Hollis" did. I guess it's because at that point Hip-Hop wasn't as fun and innocent. It's a dope track... RUN-DMC - Christmas Is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erAWiT94or4 I'm gonna post more about Boyz II Men's Christmas album soon. It's my favorite Christmas album ever.
  15. Love that LL joint. BRUNO MARS - Grenade Doo Wops + Hooligans (2010) I've just really been feeling this song.
  16. Maybe one day I'll be a vegetarian again. One thing is for sure...TOFU is NAS-2-THE-TEE. lol. I tried it once and almost puked. There's plenty of Thanksgiving staples that don't include meat..which I like more than the turkey anyway.
  17. I had to get it started off with TLC's "Sleigh Ride." This came out in the winter of 1993 on the LaFace Family Christmas album and the Home Alone 2 soundtrack. I love that TLC did a song in their traditional style at that time. The colors, the fun, the dancing, and the production are traditional TLC, mixed with a holiday theme and lyrics. I remember this being in heavy rotation in it's time and it's shown up on countless compilations and soundtracks since. There's a smoothed out remix that can be found on promo CD's and vinyl. The whole LaFace Family Christmas album is good. Toni Braxton's now classic version of "The Christmas Song" is on there. Usher's take on "This Christmas" (on of my favorite versions of the song) is on there, as are 2 songs by the 90's male R-N-B group A Few Good Men. The only thing that's out of place OutKast's "Playa's Ball" (why is it on a Christmas album) and the forgotten artist McArther (I don't remember any songs or album buy this guy). 18. Well, Thanksgiving has passed and that means one thing...pretty much nobody can be annoyed by Christmas music...lol. I figured I'd create a post where we can spend the next month sharing Christmas music we loved growing up and new songs that have come out this year. Feel free to post videos as well. What are your favorite Christmas songs? What artists have done Christmas songs/albums you like?
  19. KATHARINE MCPHEE - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas Christmas Is The Time To Say i Love You (2010)
  20. Not everyone can be Whitney Houston. Janet and Mya are some of my favorite singers but they certainly don't have the strongest voices. As long as you do have a voice and "stylize" your singing...and back it up with solid production and good song writing, I'm usually satisfied. I like some of Ashanti's stuff but I think I'd put her at the bottom the list. I am going to go back and listen 2 her Christmas album tho.' I almost popped it in yesterday. I remember getting my hands on an Ashanti song a couple years ago that was supposed to be on her latest album and thought it was a better song then most of the ones that made the cut.
  21. I've always liked her music. She doesn't have a voice like Christina Aguilera (but not many do). I think she definitely holds her own. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Christina Milian Receives $4 Million Divorce Settlement * Posted Nov 23rd 2010 2:00PM by Latifah Muhammad Earlier this month it was revealed that Christina Milian and The-Dream reached an undisclosed divorce settlement, and now word has it that the amount is $4 million. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Milian, 28, will receive the lump sum plus $5,000 a month in child support, for the former couple's young daughter, Violet. "Ms. Milian strongly believes that peaceful resolution is better for their child and that she is very pleased with the settlement and that it was accomplished out of court," said Milian's lawyer, Randy Kessler. The divorce looked as if it may get ugly, after photos of Dream canoodling in Hawaii with his assistant, Melissa Santiago, hit the 'Net. Amid Milian's claims of his infidelity, Dream later released a letter on his website accepting blame for the split. Milian has since moved on, is focusing on raising her daughter and recently began working on a new album. "I've been regrouping with my life and everything that was going on," Milian told The BoomBox. "I feel very confident, very sexy, alive. I feel responsible for a lot of things. I'm very thankful for being able to see the light and move forward in my life. Sometimes big things have to happen in your life to push forward and I've had a lot of big things."
  22. That's dope! Feels good 2 know he's recording with a purpose even tho' he's not talking about an album.
