  1. XSCAPE - Keep It On The Real Off The Hook (1995) Xscape's best project. This album has always been a summer staple for me.
  2. Wow, I didn't think this would ever happen. All these years there was speculation of it being the work of Randy Allen (Rusty Waters) and that appears to be false. The fact that it was related to drugs is a little discouraging, but it was always known the Jay was the one in the streets, and in later years, dealing with a lot of debt. I'm glad that it looks like justice will be served. https://abc7ny.com/arrests-in-unsolved-murder-of-run-dmcs-jam-master-jay/6374271/?fbclid=IwAR307rMK3XFOo59UATt2JRueYpNsZ5LGq84zbuLMTIgOOXmU_NFuO-8DV28 Arrests in unsolved murder of Run-DMC's Jam Master Jay Tuesday, August 18, 2020 12:07AM Ad Duration00:28 - More Info PauseCurrent time00:01Seek 00:00 Duration02:37Toggle MuteVolume Settings Toggle Fullscreen EMBED <>MORE VIDEOS Two men have been indicted in the 2002 unsolved murder of Jam Master Jay, the D.J. for the rap group Run-DMC, federal prosecutors in New York City have announced. NEW YORK (WABC) -- Two men have been indicted in the 2002 unsolved murder of Jam Master Jay, the D.J. for the rap group Run-DMC, federal prosecutors in New York City have announced. Jason Mizell was murdered in Hollis, Queens on October 30, 2002 -- shot at point-blank range with a .40-caliber handgun. "The defendants allegedly carried out the cold-blooded murder of Jason Mizell, a brazen act that has finally caught up with them thanks to the dedicated detectives, agents and prosecutors who never gave up on this case," stated Acting United States Attorney DuCharme. "The charges announced today begin to provide a measure of justice to the family and friends of the victim, and make clear that the rule of law will be upheld, whether that takes days, months or decades." RELATED: Brooklyn street renamed in honor of The Notorious B.I.G. Mizell, known professionally as Jam Master Jay, was a member of 1980s hip-hop sensation Run-DMC, behind hits such as "It's Tricky" and the Aerosmith remake collaboration "Walk This Way." The 37-year-old Jay was shot once in the head by a masked assailant, police said at the time. He left behind a wife and three children. Officials announce charges against two men in the murder of Run-DMC legend Jam Master Jay. NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison, a Queens native and self-described Run-DMC fan, said "this arrest was very important to me." NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison, a Queens native and self-described Run-DMC fan, said "this arrest was very important to me." RELATED Letter written by Tupac Shakur to Madonna to hit the auction block Karl Jordan and Ronald Washington, both of Queens, have been charged with the murder of Jam Master Jay while engaged in cocaine trafficking, according to an indictment unsealed in the Eastern District of New York that also charged the two with drug offenses. The murder of Jam Master Jay stemmed from a dispute over drug trafficking, according to the indictment. According to investigators, Mizell sought to exclude Washington from a large multi-state drug deal. In retaliation, Washington and Jordan conspired to murder, and ultimately executed Mizell. As alleged in court filings, on October 30, 2002, Mizell was present at his recording studio, 24/7 Studio, located on Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens. Washington and Jordan, armed with firearms, entered the studio at approximately 7:30 p.m. Washington then allegedly pointed his firearm at an individual located inside the studio and demanded that the person lie on the floor. Jordan was said to have approached Mizell and pointed his firearm at him, firing two shots at close range, striking the victim once in the head and killing him. The second shot struck another individual in the leg. "Mr. Jordan and Mr. Washington walked into a music studio in Queens, where Mr. Mizell and others were working essentially hanging out, and they walked in and they murdered them in cold blood," DuCharme said. The investigation revealed that the motive for the killing resulted from Mizell's previous acquisition of approximately 10 kilograms of cocaine from a narcotics supplier in the Midwest. The cocaine was allegedly intended to be distributed in Maryland by Washington, Jordan and other co-conspirators. Mizell had recently informed Washington that the defendant would not be involved in distributing the narcotics in Maryland, which precipitated the murder conspiracy. The ATF New York Field Division said they never believed this case was unsolvable. "Working tirelessly alongside the NYPD Cold Case Squad, we were determined to bring justice for the Mizell family and see these killers held accountable," ATF Acting Special Agent-in-Charge McCormick said. "For nearly eighteen years, one of these alleged perpetrators walked freely, thinking he'd gotten away with murder. But today, thanks to the unwavering efforts of the investigators and prosecutors, two individuals will answer for their crimes." NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea also commented on the indictment. "The gunshots that rang out in a recording studio in Queens nearly 18 years ago, taking this pioneering rap artist's life, have been answered," Shea said. "Today's indictment shows that no amount of time passed can erase the commitment of our NYPD detectives, federal law enforcement partners and prosecutors in the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District, to the pursuit of justice." The 36-year-old Jordan was taken into custody on Sunday. Washington, 56, was already in prison on a prior robbery case. Jordan was arraigned Monday, pleading not guilty and was ordered held pending trial. In addition to the murder, Jordan is also charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and seven counts of cocaine distribution. Federal prosecutors said this case carries the possibility of the death penalty. The return date is September 17.
  3. Yeah, I miss this sound. Rakim's output since the mid-90's has been complicated. I lost all of his solo stuff in the house flood almost two years ago. I was about to start replacing it.
  4. I'm not gonna lie. I don't understand the appeal of the classic film. Perhaps I should watch it again. I'd like to see Will and Kevin team up, though. It'll be a new dynamic.
  5. I just put on this on for the first time in a while. I'm curious if there's anyone who loves this album as much as I do. To me, this 1995 release is darn near perfect. Skee-Lo has lyrics, stories, and jokes. You could say that it generally has a west coast g-funk sound, but the sound is definitely broader than that. The title track was actually a huge smash. "Top of the Stairs" was a respectable follow-up single, which was also used on the Money Train soundtrack. "Superman" didn't generate the same attention. I know "Holdin' On" was released overseas with a more radio-ready remix, but I don't remember seeing the video in the US. I've always held this album close to my heart. When I put it on, it takes me right back to the summer of 1995. Anyone love this album or any of these songs?
  6. Let me start off by saying we don't know the full story. We don't have a place to judge. Who cares what any of us thinks on the matter? lol That being said, my thoughts are totally mixed on pretty much everything. If they were separated, whatever happens can happen. I've been in relationships where we take a break and one person takes advantage of that and the other does not. In the end, it never worked out. Jealousy and/or hurt exists, and eventually comes out. Very few relationships come out of something like that are as good as they were before. If they can do it, power to them. I always felt like if they broke up, Will would be the one to find someone new faster. It being Jada kind of surprised me. The whole thing about Will giving his blessing is weird to me, though. I find it hard to see him or any man doing that. Part of the male ego naturally isn't cool with that, even when separated. Jada dating younger during their separation isn't something I'm mad at. She's healthy and young in spirit. These days I tend to click with women that are much younger than I do ones that are about the same age. When they are the same age, their are either in a relationship, or often beat down from life to the point that I feel like we're on different plains. Will and Jada are always kind of cryptic when they talk about their relationship. If they were just transparent, it wouldn't leave room for people to paint their own vision of their relationship. The whole "life partner" role replacing "marriage partners" is a muddy description. May that works and maybe it doesn't. One thing I've noticed is that Will is kind of different when he's with Jada and family than like how he is in that video with Jeff and Charlie. I feel like I knew Will better when he was pumping out music and blockbuster films. I like what he's doing with his social media, but I feel like I don't him as well. If their relationship isn't good and they ended their partnership, I feel like we'd get more of the old Will. The video is tough to watch. Part of me thinks it was totally unnecessary. I don't know anything about August Alsina. Just based on his content and interviews, he seems kinda corny. He's trying to stir things up. At the same time, it's his life. He can do what he wants. Does his music and interviews require this video as a response? Jada actually comes off unapologetic and and annoying. The video isn't polished to look a certain way, because they only seem to be on the same page at certain parts of the video. Will clearly looks unhappy talking about stuff that is old. I want them to be happy. Hopefully their marriage only gets better. Will often says his first marriage ending was his worst failure. I'm just worried he is holding on to that and using it to keep himself in a marriage that shouldn't be in any more. I hope everyone gets the healing and resolution they need. p.s. I typed this really fast and didn't proof read it, so forgive me if it's full of errors. lol
  7. RALPH TRESVANT feat. JOHNNY GILL - All Mine (2020)
  8. This has always been one of my favorite MJ remixes. MICHAEL JACKSON - They Don't Care About Us (Love To Infinity's Walk In The Park Mix) They Don't Care About Us (Single) 1995
  9. Man, I finally got to watch the whole thing. This was so good. I wanted to hear Jeff talk more, but his reactions kept me cracking up. Will definitely dominated the conversation. I love when they went into talking about their chemistry, the gun story, the times Charlie should have been fired, and why Will used his lower register on "Summertime". They should do these more often on Will's social media.
  10. My man Speech from Arrested Development is using quarantine to start a podcast. This video has him, his wife, his daughter, actress Zoe Renee, and his sister in law talking about the recent Red Table Talk video.
  11. NORAH JONES - To Live Pick Me Up Off The Floor (2020)
  12. Man, I saw this when he dropped it on Rock The Bell's Facebook. I love the message and I love the fire in him. He needs to put this over a beat.
  13. DMC will never get rid of that old school flow, and I'm okay with that. I wish the bass hit harder on this, but overall I like it. It's nothing ground breaking, but it's good to hear something new from him. His voice seems a bit stronger on this!
  14. This is kind of funny. Singer/songwriter Stefan Murphy of the Mighty Stef posted this video on his Facebook, asking an important question I'm sure we've all wondered at some point in our lives: what would the Fresh Prince theme song sound like if it were a sad folk lament as heard in an Irish pub? https://boingboing.net/2020/07/03/the-fresh-prince-theme-song-as.html?fbclid=IwAR1cqywVZWdz8RR9byizuy8NAhTi13mYJqtlQnJVqNfh1syXwbc06YMnACE
  15. SPEECH - Ask Somebody Who Ain't (If You Think The System's Workin') (self titled) 1996
  16. The whole battle idea is corny to me. If it's not rooted in reality, it just isn't interesting. They are talking about battling as presentation or a setup. The Fresh Prince and LL Cool J have been my two favorite emcees for about 30 years. I'd rather just hear them do some songs together. It's long overdue. Shoot, with their history, I"d just like to hear them talk for an hour about their music and history together.
  17. ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT - Trauma This Was Never Home (2016)
  18. Thank you for sharing. Big Daddy Kane doesn't miss a step. That band, too!
  19. This recent video does a great job looking at his music career from a pop culture stand point.
  20. I saw Bad Boys For Life when it was still in theaters. I'm not gonna lie, I was underwhelmed. Some of the jokes and references to the past were too forced. Doing the Bad Boys/Cops theme song twice was too much. The villain was kind of weird and ill fitting for the Bad Boys franchise. Most of all, I absolutely hate what they did to Captain Howard. It's the only Bad Boys film that saw once in theaters. The others I had seen many times in theaters. I stewed in this underwhelmed state for while. I've been staying out of stores for the most part with everything that's going on, but I did go into a store to pick up BBFL on blu-ray. I will say that I enjoyed it more the second time around. Perhaps it's because my expectations had been lowered. There were still a few moments that I didn't like that much, but overall I enjoyed it much more the second time around. If they round it out with fourth, I hope they take it closer to its roots.
  21. I'm late on dropping a comment. Tim sent me a link to the video when this dropped. It was four in the morning when I saw it. I'm definitely love this. I had only ever heard of Joyner Lucas, but never listened to him before. I'm going to be a big repetitive in what I have to say, but I love how the lyrics are a humble balance of highlighting some of his accomplishment and giving props to those who influence and supported him. It's not just braggadocios, it's classy. At first I wasn't crazy about the modern choppy flow, though he puts more life into it than the 1,000 other modern rappers who sound tired and sloppy when they do it. I like that his vocally lets it build and shift to a more classic flow. Most of all, it's the first verse he's put out since 2005 where every single line counts. That was the great thing about Lost + Found. Not a single line was wasted. The same can be said for this. I also like that it doesn't have standard cookie cutter style, like verse, hook. verse, hook, verse, hook, fade. He just goes one. The crazy thing is that people wanna talk about how EVERYBODY things FP is corny in his music, but every time he does something, everybody reacts like in this reaction videos. Additionally, so many people say rap is a young boy's game, but virtually everyone is excited when the Prince does something like this. I'm not just being a cry baby fan when I say this, but he truly needs to put some focus into his music. Nobody thinks he's corny. Nobody things a dope artist is "too old" to be recording. He'd be breaking down barriers if his hit us with a full album and is properly distributed and promoted. As much as we have hated it, it might be good that he made us wait so long for a substantial body of work. The time seems more right than ever.
  22. LL COOL J - 6 Minutes of Pleasure Mama Said Knock You Out (1990)
  23. This was fun. I feel like if they aren't going to be doing proper shows, they should do this from time to time. I love the graffiti in his garage! Their chemistry and banter is one of a kind.
