  1. Yeah, i don't wanna claim to be a know-it-all or anything but "Summertime" is straight Fresh Prince. His lyrics, style, and writing parttern of each era are so strong that u can tell when it's all him...and Homebase is all him. I was listening 2 it on the way home from work 2day and just being sucked back in 1991. Classic FP.

As I posted before Rakim himself denies that he wrote Summertime! The whole gost-writing crap started with Big Willie Style, when Will had his breakthrough. In an old interview Nas said he was just helping out with the hook, he didn't write the whole album or song. And if really someone did ghostwrite that its been kinda late, cause its a classic since almost 20 years and rumors would have popped earlier!

  2. In my opinion, no.

You ask a teenager with no Hip Hop knowledge who is Rakim and he doesn't know. You ask that teenager who is Eminem and he knows it, or maybe the only Rap album he owns is the '8 Mile' soundtrack. That teenager will say that Eminem is the best rapper ever, without even being able to name more than 5 rappers.

Now change that teenager for millions, and you'll see the impact Em has made.

Eminem is a showman. Why would I take him seriously?

Ok, fair enough. But, apply the same situation to football. Ask a young teenage kid who George Best (Zidane for some of them probably as well) is an he probably wouldnt know, ask him who C.Ronaldo is and he'd know, and would probably think he is the best player. Does that make CR7 overrated?

I think with Eminem its more, some peoples lack of knowledge means they are ignorant to other artists, as opposed to overrating Em. Because for all we know, even if they had the full knowledge, they could still rank Em as the best ever. Just as a friend of mine (a rapper called Preest) who has a bigger knowledge of hip hop than me, but still ranks Em in his top 5 lyricists of all time. So I personally think its more about ignorance than overrating.

Eminem is definately a talented MC, but Top 5 and especially for lyricism is absolutely bull****. He has a crazy flow and is talented battle rapper (top 10)

Are you or your friend seriously telling me that he is better lyricist than Rakim, Andre 3000, Slick Rick, Common and Nas?

  3. It took Mariah Carey to make Eminem do a track with a good delivery. In Em's favor, this is the flow i wanna hear (closer to his original style once he found his nitch). Lyrically it's funny. However, let's look at this realistically. Eminem is dissing Mariah Carey. Once again, he's not taking on a fellow emcee, he's taking on someone in a form that they victim cannot fight back. I mean, how many R-N-B diss tracks are there?!? Eminem's weakness has always been how heavily relied on POP CULTURE to make HIP-HOP and RAP records. He started the mess by making a crap song. It's easily the worst song on the album. What is the point of it? He devotes a whole song on his 2009 album to a relationship that happened (or didn't happen) YEEEEARS ago. I mean, what respectable man insults a marraige (like he has room 2 judge any healthy relationship?!) Then when Mariah repsponded, he wants 2 go in2 cry baby mode again. Let me say that i think Mariah's song is okay and i like how she had the confidense 2 make fun of him back (because he asked for it) but "Obsessed" is Mariah's weakest opening single...or at least tied with "Loverboy." I viewed it as a playful way 2 respond 2 a stupid song that no ones knows just how playful he wanted it 2 be...how serious was he when he wrote it. Props 2 Em for flowing like he has some sense. Props for getting funny in the lyrics department. Props for choosing a dope beat. NO PROPS for poking fun at a marriage, taking on Mariah as if it were necessary.

    100% co-sign!

  4. This post is going to get a lot of people angry, but I'm going to put it up anyway just because it's the way I feel. Will Smith does not deserve this at all. In my view Will Smith is not a real rapper whatsoever, however he is a tremendous actor and he should stick to that. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince failed to keep their clean style of rap alive in the 90's when gangsta rap destroyed everything in it's path. And now the mean is what 40 years old? It's over for Will Smith in the rap game. More power to Will, but the real legends who deserve this title are people like Biggie Smalls, Tupac, and Dr. Dre.

 This is one of the funniest posts ever. Yeah and Dre keeps it real..check world class wrecking crew and NWA! Tupac and Biggie are just mentioned in the GOAT discussion, because they had a tragic death!

  5. There were a lot of great battles in rap...i don't think there is such thing as best battle or GOAT.

    LL Cool J vs. Canibus

    Nas vs. Jay-Z

    Westside Connection vs. Common

    NWA vs. Ice Cube

LL Cool J vs. Ice-T, Kool Moe Dee and MC Hammer

And back to LL vs. Canibus...i also think LL started it, because he misinterpreted Canibus verse, who was actually an LL fan. Canibus won the battle, but lost the war!

  6. Eminem sucks...i liked him at the beginning of his career, but after SSLP he started to fall off. Skillz was right, it was wrong from Em to diss Will. What is more frustrating is that now Em's career is falling off, Jeff shares the stage with him and SUPPORTS him instead of Will in 2000, when the "beef" started! JJFP is dead!

  7. That LL Cool J interview came out around the time "10" dropped back in the fall of '02, I remember posting it here on this forum a couple years ago, yahoo.com seemed to have deleted a lot of their old stuff I tried looking for it today and couldn't find it, that sucks for real

I also remember that Kool Moe Dee listed Will at #23 in his list of the 50 Greatest MCs and there was an interview posted here with Ice Cube saying that he and Will are very supportive of each others careers

Now when it comes to Eminem yeah I posted that interview from Vibe Magazine a couple years ago with that ATOJ producer C. Haggins(He co-produced 'It's All Good' on "Big Willie Style"), Em got great taste in hip hop music it's just funny how he could put out wack material, lol

Ice Cube mentioned Will in an Hot 97 interview with Angie Martinez...that he has been always the best in everything he does!

The only people who talked **** about him were Eminem and Dr. Dre!

  8. It's time to put all the chips on the table. Who has the best lyrics? The flyest style? The dopest hooks? You decide.

Last year, you told the world who The Best Rapper Alive was. Looking back, it's no surprise that Eminem won the whole shebang. Now we're thinking even bigger. Starting May 18, 2009 VIBE will open up voting for hip hop's best MC ever, including legendary voices from the Golden Age, crucial stars from the Platinum Era as well as today's Twittering titans. Until then, let the barbershop debates begin!
