  11. Another week, another unannounced party visit? Will Smith surprised organizers at an exhibit put on by Five Four Clothing and Cyrcle, an L.A.-based art group. "His visit was so unexpected," a source says. "He just walked around eating ice cream sandwiches and taking pictures." The actor, who arrived with a female friend, was in a "joking mood," the source says, and even teased one of the designers about their work. He also tried to buy one of the pieces, but it had already been sold, so Smith made plans to visit Cyrcle's studios and commission a work. http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20524232,00.html
  12. DJ Jazzy Jeff Talks Touring with Jill Scott's Block Party Tour; Gives Update on Working with Will Smith (AllHipHop News) AllHipHop touched base with Grammy Award winning hip-hop legend DJ Jazzy Jeff last weekend to talk about his recent appearances on tour with Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Mint Condition and MC/Host Doug E Fresh. In addition Jazzy Jeff gave fans an update about Will Smith also known as The Fresh Prince and his looming return back to the hip-hop spotlight. "Its crazy because Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Mint Condition, myself and Doug E [Fresh], its kind of like the first time we've done it and its kind of like me and Doug E try to make the transitions seamless. Its crazy because I don't think I've ever seen a tour that had an arena or amphitheater full of people that got up and and were dancing like it was a party, and that's every arena, so its been a good time," Jazzy Jeff told AllHipHop.com about his role on the tour. Throughout the tour, in between performances Doug E Fresh and Jazzy Jeff entertain the crowd with a set that features classic Hip-Hop and R&B songs to keep the crowd energized as the artists prepare to perform their set for the crowd. During the Dallas show at the Gexa Energy Pavillion, veteran Doug E Fresh taught the crowd how to "Dougie" the original way, teaching fans how to "Dougie" when they took a basketball shot, when they shot a hole in one on the golf course, coming up with several other creative ways to do the dance made famous by Dallas rapper Lil' Will and then the Cali Swag District. "Shout out to Lil' Will and the Cali Swag District, but I'm going to teach you the original way to dougie," Doug E Fresh told the crowd. "We take a little bit of everything from Micheal Jackson to the whole New Jack Swing era, and then jump on to classic hip-hop, and its funny because there is so much stuff that we could do, but its been a lot of fun, its like taking people on a trip through memory lane," Jazzy Jeff described to AllHipHop.com. "You know its a little bit of an older and grown and sexy crowd, so its almost like we started off playing slow jams mixtape, and then we come back out and go to the classics and get them going and come back out and you see people singing the songs and then we come back and take them through to modern classics, house party and bass party classics." In other news, Jazzy told AllHipHop about his work with WIll Smith and explained Will's recent appearance at pioneering Philly hip-hop DJ Lady B's 30th Anniversary concert. With rumors swirling about working with Game's producer named Mars, and a recent AllHipHop interview where Jazzy explained the potential for a comeback, Will Smith has the internet buzzing about the potential for a return to hip-hop. "You know I mean the creative juices are going. He was actually supposed to pop up with me at a few tour dates and I know he's prepping for a new movie, but he showed up at Lady B's show in Philly, he showed up and got up and rocked and I was really disappointed I couldn't be there. It was kind of like me and Doug E got a fast food job and only one of us could call out and Doug E called out before I did, and it hurt because it was in my hometown, but will did "Brand New Funk", "Summertime", "La Di Da Di" so we chipping away, he wants to do it." In the celebration of Lady B's 30 years in radio Will Smith performed along side Doug E Fresh, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, Salt-N-Pepa, and Schoolly D to celebrate the female DJ's achievements. Lady B was the first DJ to play DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's first single, "Girls Ain't Nothing but Trouble." and was thus crucial in helping get the group it's first record deal. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince also known as Will Smith later went on to win the first rap Grammy Award taking home an award for their song, "Parents Just Dont Understand". http://allhiphop.com...0/22873428.aspx

  15. Josh Brolin To Star In Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’ Redo For Mandate BREAKING: Josh Brolin was rumored to be on the short list to star in Spike Lee’s Oldboy, a remake of the cult 2003 Korean revenge thriller from Park Chan-wook. Now it’s official: Brolin will topline the Mandate Pictures redo, which begins production in March. Brolin, who just wrapped Men in Black 3 with Will Smith, next begins work on Warner Bros’ Gangster Squad. It looks like he’ll squeeze in Oldboy before shooting Jason Reitman’s Labor Day opposite Kate Winslet; that movie is set to begin production in June. The new Oldboy has script adapted by Mark Protosevich, who will co-produce. Roy Lee and Doug Davison will produce via Vertigo Entertainment with Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule. Mandate president Nathan Kahane will executive produce. Originally, DreamWorks was looking to pick up remake rights in 2008, with the idea that Steven Spielberg would direct Smith. The story centers on a man who is kidnapped on his daughter’s birthday and held for 15 years in solitary confinement without explanation. He is eventually released and sets out on a path to take revenge on those who destroyed his life. http://www.deadline.com/2011/08/josh-brolin-to-star-in-spike-lees-oldboy-redo-for-mandate/
  16. I wanted to share this article, it was a nice read.. ----- Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down. And I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how I became obsessed with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Really, seriously obsessed. And, strangely enough, not until recently. Sure, I caught the show every once in awhile in the 1990s. But I never fully appreciated it until I was much older — and aware about Will Smith’s status as a superstar. Prior to revisiting Fresh Prince a few years back, thanks to those TBS reruns, I never could call myself a fan of the multi-camera sitcom. Most series in the genre were dated, predictable, and less funny than Hillary’s boyfriend Trevor. So when I flipped on a rerun of Fresh Prince a few years back, I was surprised how much Fresh Prince distanced itself from other sitcoms of its era. The wardrobe might have represented the worst of the ’90s, but the series still felt, well, fresh. The show took risks, going bluer than most sitcoms aimed at a family-friendly audience. And, most importantly, it was knock-down, drag-out funny. Of course, most of the credit can be given to its star, Will Smith. Even in his early days as an actor, the multi-hyphenate lit up the screen, commanding it better than co-stars with years more experience. Tuning into Fresh Prince, it was clear the young actor would soon be inviting cheers at your local theater punching aliens. But part of what made Smith so impressive — and so darn likable — was his ability to share the wealth on-screen. Yes, he stole every single Fresh Prince episode. And, yes, the series would be lost without him. But Smith allowed Fresh Prince to be an ensemble show, even when it was clear he was its true star. The show wouldn’t be complete without James Avery’s Philip Banks, a foil who showed us exasperation at its finest. Or Janet Hubert and Daphne Reid’s Vivian Banks (Hubert left the show after three years), the straight woman who could still keep up with her wise-guy nephew; Karyn Parsons’ Hilary Banks, the Veruca Salt-esque spoiled cousin with a heart of gold — because that’s all she loved; Tatyana Ali’s Ashley Banks, the adolescent cousin who adored Will and served as proof that Smith could cater towards a family-friendly demographic; Joseph Marcell’s Geoffrey, the hospitable butler who evened out Will’s manic ways with quiet hostility; and, of course, Alfonso Ribeiro’s Carlton Banks, a character so outlandish, everyone could mimic “The Carlton Dance” to this day. The series was so fresh and so smart, it’s no wonder several high-profile guest stars stopped by the Banks mansion throughout its run: Fresh Prince boasted appearances from the likes of Tyra Banks, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Queen Latifah, and Dick Clark. But the series hardly needed big names to succeed. Actually, I always preferred the episodes that would focus squarely on the Banks family and Will’s hijinks. Think “Talking Turkey” (the first Thanksgiving episode), “Burnin’ Down the House” (in which Will accidentally destroys the Banks kitchen), and “Strip-Tease For Two,” when Carlton and Will unintentionally become the dancers for a party involving Aunt Vivian. The Banks were a glamorous family with big hearts and hearty humor — who wouldn’t want to join in with their shenanigans? And give Smith millions and millions of dollars to headline Hollywood’s most profitable films? But now I turn things over to you, PopWatchers. What are you favorite memories involving the Banks family? And, with the exception of Will, who was your favorite Fresh Prince character? http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/08/29/fresh-prince-of-bel-air-tribute/

  19. Will Smith's son's Twitter account suspended It turns out that one of the first responses to the Will-n-Jada breakup news this week wasn't on the up-and-up. When In Touch Weekly said the two superstars were breaking up, Will's son, Trey, put out the fire on Twitter saying the news was "NOT TRUE AT ALL." Now it turns out that wasn't true at all. It was a fake, according to InTouch and Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson. And the account has been suspended from Twitter. Of course, Will and Jada wound up addressing the report themselves, issuing a formal statement saying their marriage was "intact." http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2011/08/will-smiths-sons-twitter-account-not-real--/1
