The ABC Family game show, a new take on the spelling bee, premieres July 24.
Alfonso Ribeiro's next role will be as himself.
Ribeiro, who starred in the 1990s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has been named host of ABC Family's Spell-Mageddon, a one-hour game show that offers a fresh take on the traditional spelling bee. In the show, contestants must face distractions as they try to spell increasingly difficult words.
The series, part of ABC Family's biggest programming slate to date, starts production Monday in California. It will premiere July 24 (9 p.m. ET/PT) after the comedy block of Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy.
Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on Fresh Prince, recently reunited with Fresh Prince star Will Smith on Britain's The Graham Norton Show.
Thinkfactory Media (History's Hatfields & McCoy's, Lifetime's Preachers' Daughters) is producing Spell-Mageddon.
