  1. The theater where I worked at got it's update film bookings sheet, and Hancock is only 92 minutes long! That's pretty damn short, espically with the reshoots they were doing!

In more postive news, Seven Pounds will have it's first trailer coming out before Mamma Mia on July 18th.

  2. Another pretty bad review... Not that the film is bad, just the review...

"Was a little hesitant when I read the Press Release for this one I really thought Will Smith was really reaching on this one especially after an Oscar Worthy Performance in I am Legend. When I read the backstory of Hancock I was thinking to myself this is one of the most ridicoulous Superhero themes I've ever heard in my life and not even Will Smith with the beautiful Charlize Theron could save this one, The outlandish storyline and poor background. WIth all this going against Hancock, I have to say that it was a pretty entertanining fun ride that I was entertained from beginning to end I was truly riveted and for the first time I think you see the real story of the Super Natural super-hero's and see that Super Powers aren't really cracked up to what they claim to be because the average person if they were special in a normal world most would do more bad than good and make the world revolve around them. Hancock is the true symbol of that he truly does what he wants when he wants. Will Smith is the best actor that could have portrayed the role and you really gain a love for the charismatic, jerk hole Super Hero who turns his powers for good and also deals with the celebrity worshipped world we currently live in. This is one that is pretty great it's not one of the best of the summer but it is definitely going to be one of them. Will Smith is going to have another definite hit for the collection."

do you have a link for this review?

  3. No too much Hancock stuff though. Showed one clip and it wasn't too much. If you're movie is about a superhero, maybe show him doing something superheroic? I'm finally starting to think Hancock will disappoint in quality and at the box office.

  4. They are defiently trying to mismarket this to people as a comedy and family friendly. Saw a trailer in front of the new Narnia movie and it was the trailer from before, but it had none of the going to prison scenes including the joke about shoving a head up another guy's ass. Also the part where he yells at the lady that he's been drinking was missing.

  5. This upsets me, I liked the sound of the movie from the reviews, even from the negative ones. It seemed really differant and unique. Dark, unPC comedy with shift in tone seems like movie wanting to do something more that just broadly entertain people. I love all kinds of film but really appreciate ones trying to do something different. That's what Will has been talking about, but now it looks he and the filmmakers are trying to please the masses with the reshoots.

That's the problem with test screenings. They pick the widest demographic with soccer moms, little kids, punk teenages, and people with just general "safe" taste in movies. General public want explosions, broad jokes, and easy to follow plot lines. They should just stick to what they have. A orginal different superhero movie with the ultimate anti-hero, a summer movie that changes tone and has some dramatics in it to go with the special effects and comedy. Really do something orginal. You do that and the movie will have people who champion it. There may be people in the general public who dislike it, who are conditioned to what a summer movie is and not like it when they see something different.

You may have a movie that underperforms at the box office, but is remembered years later as something that is truely good and orginal. Something that, frankly, Will's movies don't usually do. Now they're gonna stick a happy ending and round off the dark comedy and drama edges for more broad appeal. It may help at the box office a little, but you get a nothing movie. One that no one, even general public, really remembers or cares about more than 5 minutes after they watch it. Sorry for rambling on and on, but this looks like what they are doing, and it pisses me off.

  6. I'm afraid this one is going to turn out to be a WWW type of movie, I was sure it wouldn't be, with the people working on it, but too many reviews point out the same thing. I so wanted this to be Iron Man, 90+% on RT, 100M+ OW....the ultimate success. But so far it looks like a giant mess :shakehead: . I'll be attending this movie with the lowest expectations, I used to be hyped but with all the extremely negative reviews coming in... :paperbag:

Opinion seems to be very mixed. Yes, there's some real negative ones, but there's been some pretty postive ones too! here's another postive review http://dellagoodpinarich.blogspot.com/2008/05/i-love-la.html

  7. There's been some really positve reviews on other sites like imdb, but since AICN reviews have been negative, people think the word on the film is bad. I hate that. So far most of the other reviews have been postive, a couple mixed postive, but still have alot of good to say. Most of the reviews of AICN are idiotic to read, with the reviewer trying to sound cool and hip instead of writing an informative review.

  8. Message board post from early Hancock screening article

"I was there last night as well and this review is basically wrong. The movie does not break its own rules, you were just not paying attention. They lose their powers when they grow together. Guess you missed the last half hour of the film while you were thinking about writing on this site. I will say the last half hour of the movie dragged for me a bit but this is a case of editing more than anything else. The film is funny and has plenty of action. This is a superhero movie for intelligent adults and not your typical comicbook plot and characters. As soon as I was getting tired of the frenetic pace and plot of the first half of the movie it shifted into something else equally as enjoyable. Do not let this idiotic review put you off. The movie rocks. Charlize Theron is amazing in the film and provides the type of emotional depth you don't normally see in a summer blockbuster release."

  9. Better than "Men in Black II", "Wild Wild West", and "I, Robot"? That's not very complicated. Better than "I am Legend"? I have my doubts. Although I am Legend wasn't an excellent movie, Will's performance was excellent, and I'd say it is at the same level as 'Ali' or Chris Gardner in 'Pursuit of Happyness'. So do you really think Will's performance as John Hancock is going to be better than his performance as Robert Neville? I really don't think so. Just my opinion.
Will's performance was great, the last half of the movie though left alot to be desired. Trailers are ment to get people in seats, so of course they are gonna highlight action and comedy. Peter Berg is good director, and Michael Mann is onboard with this. He's been attached to it for awhile. He doesn't associate with crap, he's one of Hollywood's best.
