  1. I forget where it is, but I remember in Revelation that earthly government will eventually turn on religion. And considering the noise that was going on in the media about the word "Christmas" last year, this is just a sign of things to come. Mistake? Maybe...or maybe not.

I thought the title of this thread was referencing a song title...haha. Actually it could be...the song could be about all the money being made by the music business by what they're promoting:

"Godless dollars being made...by BET and the images displayed...by fake MC's obsessed with gettin laid..."

  2. :werd:

Also remember that when it comes to commercial rap, popular artists and trends die out. Hammer was all pop and dance and hype, no real skills even when he tried to be "gangsta". He was leading the "dance rap" craze until gangsta rap took over, then everyone started copying Dre and Snoop Dogg. The south may be on top now, but the public will get tired of it and move on and Wayne will be gone.

  3. And LL ain't even first on the track from his own album! Weak. Old school rappers need to stand on their own and not ride someone else. He's just doin it to get himself attention, like "look at who I'm rollin with!" Respect is earned, not because you're down with a trendy clique. Just like Run on "Crown Royal" with Third Eye Blind, Fred Durst, Kid Rock, and Sugar Ray...trying to be trendy with bad results.

  4. True dat...or that there is more to rap/hip-hop then the materialistic, violent and sexual content that is promoted in both music and in videos. I'm hesitant to say I like hip-hop to some people because I don't want to be judged by what they see/hear about it. I was proud to wear my rap t-shirts back in the day, now I don't want to be associated with what "hip-hop" is associated with.

Another reason to "bring `88 back".

  5. I agree with it all except for one thing:

"We need to bring it back to 88!". NO WE DON'T! Ultramagnetic didn't say 'we gonna bring it back to '74' "

We all say that we want fun back in rap...well 1988 was during the time when rap WAS fun! JJ+FP, Biz, The Fat Boys, etc. were making us laugh while displaying good skills on the mic. I say we DO need to take it back to 88 because that's when the best selling rappers were unique and did not copy each other or follow trends. Almost everything in that "speech" was not happening in the 80's, and it sounds like we think the rap industry would be better if it did go back in time.

Ultramagnetic didn't say 'we gonna bring it back to '74' because, as KRS-ONE put it at the time, "rap is still a brand new tool". Now we have a reference point to judge the current music with, and we see how the quality of rap (and music in general) has degraded.

  6. Gotta bring it back:

Lots of little knots that need to be tied

A pair of knuckleheads walkin side by side

down the altar, you say to yourself, "I will not falter"

But you're thinkin it -- how did I get myself in this predicament?

Saw the def cutie that made your heart sing

You hopped to the shop and got a ring

Felt left out cause all your friends are hooked

But now you're at the altar, your goose is cooked

You say a prayer, "Lord please give me strength to make it through"

Opened up your nervous mouth, slipped and said, "I do"

    (thinking) "I don't, IdoIdoIdo, I don't I don't, IdoIdo, I don't, I don't"

Look you do son, now hurry up and kiss the brizide

Peace said the father, cause now the knot is tied

-- Digital Underground: "Tie The Knot" 1991

    Congrats.
