We got new Dru Hill, too! I miss the original lineup, but good music is good music. DRU HILL - What You Need (2020)

Jo Jo just released a solo single. The urban AC sound is a little boring and the auto-tune touches are unnecessary, but it's good to hear something new from him. He excels better in a group, but it's good to hear something new from him. JO JO - Special (2020)

Man, I couldn't just leave this as what I was listening to. This deserved a post of its own. Check out Rakim's Tiny Desk Concert. After this, I'd love to hear him do an album with all live instruments.

Chico did well in the late 90's, but I never really listened to him. I'm revisiting it, really listening to it for the first time, and I'm liking what I'm hearing. CHICO DEBARGE - The Game The Game (1999)

New GANG STARR Album / Single with J. Cole

Why aren't more of y'all into this album? They just dropped a remix of "Bad Name" featuring Method Man and Redman! http://premierwuzhere.com/videos/gang-starr-feat-method-man-redman-bad-name-remix/?fbclid=IwAR1StuxPZ3H98vOqOAFm4TIyFRiJy4Tg_jouM01QC0k217eFSI2OCWK51hA

I wasn't much of a Biggie fan, but I did love this song on first listen! I never saw the movie Phat Beach, but I recently got the soundtrack. I instantly fall in love with this song. DEF JEF - 80 Ways Phat Beach soundtrack (1995)

I'm not into sports, so I didn't follow Kobe, but I remember when he was working on an album in the late 90's/early 2000's that never came out. Rest easy. Prayers for his family. KOBE BRYANT w/ TYRA BANKS - K.O.B.E. (2000)

I was digging through a used music store yesterday and someone unloaded their D'Angelo CD singles and a live EP. These remixes and live cuts are reintroducing me to one of my favorite albums in a new way. D'ANGELO - Brown Sugar Brown Sugar (1995)

    Movement on Bad Boys III

Man, maybe I need to see it again. I thought it was alright. Just alright. It didn't feel like a Bad Boys movie to me. I thought some of the dialogue and comedy was weak and forced. The beginning of it felt very rushed. Dipping into the super natural was just weird. Poorly singing "Bad Boys" is only funny for so long. I don't see a lot of Michael Bay films, but I feel that the Bad Boys movies were where he excelled and I miss his directing style and use of color lighting. I really hate that one bold decision they made. Since I no longer have expectations for it, maybe I'll enjoy it more if I see it again...but I don't really have a desire to see it in theaters again.

New Eminem album - Music to Be Murdered By

I love his flow on "Godzilla". He seriously races the rhyme as you get into the song. I just find the beat hard to swallow. The guy on the hook does nothing for me. He sounds like everyone on urban radio.

New Eminem album - Music to Be Murdered By

I've previewed it. It didn't grab me as much as his first few albums, but I did at least generally like what I heard. I haven't gotten into the lyrics yet. Like most of his recent projects, the production goes from bad to good. I do love "Darkness".

What Are You Listening To? XXII

I was just introduced to this song. I'm pretty sure I never heard it before as a kid. I'm a big fan of Freestyle music and always want to explore, but never seem to have the time. This just dropped in my lap. Strangely, this particular song isn't sung by the actual artist (though he did perform it live). It's actually sung by Elan Lanier. NOLAN THOMAS - Yo, Little Brother Yo, Little Brother (1984)
  16. Yes, it's from Word 2. The song was done before He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper. The verse from it made it into the live version of "Brand New Funk." https://www.discogs.com/Various-Word-2/release/1540930

    House Party

House Party is a classic. I wouldn't want it any other way, but there's no denying that a JJ+FP version would have been just as good.

What's up, friends. Tim has been kind enough to keep this forum active in a time when message boards just aren't that popular anymore. Adult life can suck and take up some time, but I'm wondering if some of us could make it a point to use the forum more frequently. As we closed out another year, I was thinking about times happier and more carefree. Those times involved good music, good people, and socializing here (and elsewhere on the internet). I'm wondering who else might commit to checking the forum and posting more frequently. It's almost a slap in the face for Tim to keep the forum up and us not use it.

    A decade of music

If he doesn't want to commit to an album yet, he should just drop singles on a regular basis. All the songs we've heard on his social media that hasn't released are a missed opportunity.
  21. I really loved this movie. I can't believe it didn't grab more hype. I also can't believe that anyone pays any attention to critics anymore. With the internet anybody can be a critic. The Blu-Ray/DVD release is January 14th, so I can't wait to pick it up. Buying it is the best way to give the film some extended life.

I recently got Camila's album. I'm digging this pop/R&B release. CAMILA CABELLO - Liar Romance (2019)
  23. I lost interest in Kanye West over 10 years ago. While I'll give anything an honest listen, I can't muster the energy to go out of my way and give the album a listen. Unless he's collaborating with an artist I love, I just don't care.
  24. I was going back thru' my old Facebook messages and doing some deleting and realized that someone sent me this article back in March. I'm not sure if it's been posted yet. I really hope this doesn't happen. I just can't imagine any good coming of this. -------------------------------------------------- Back-to-Back Independence Day Sequels, Will Smith Locked? March 29, 2010 Source: IESB by Alex Billington Independence Day Remember in November when we reported that there wasn't just one, but supposedly two, Independence Day sequels in the works? Well, apparently that's true. IESB has a big update from one of their sources who claims that 20th Century Fox has those two Independence Day sequels aiming shoot back-to-back with Will Smith. One of the big snags holding this sequel back over the last fourteen years has been that Will Smith wants more and more money. Word is he will now get $20 million up front as well as part of the gross to star in this, mainly because Fox is now floating in all kinds of cash thanks to Avatar's mega (financial) success. Apparently they're using that "extra" Avatar cash to put some big new franchises in the works, including Independence Day 2 and 3. According to IESB, who is still only reporting all of this as a rumor, Will Smith is "now locked" for both movies, which could start shooting as early as 2011. This might also be Roland Emmerich's next feature after he finishes his William Shakespeare film Anonymous, therefore also delaying the Foundation Trilogy even more. Smith will also have time to still shoot Men in Black 3 (or The City That Sailed) before the sequels, so it could line-up nicely in his schedule. Fox must have some very grand ideas! Again, since this isn't confirmed, I'm not going to go around hooting and hollering about finally getting an Independence Day sequel (two of them!), but I am going to say I'm pretty excited for this to happen. After seeing Roland Emmerich destroy the world so many times recently, I'm glad to see him getting back to his "roots" (so to say) and deliver a sequel to one of my favorite Emmerich movies ever, not to mention one of my favorite Will Smith movies ever. Plus, I can only imagine where they'll be taking the story this time and how they'll up the ante. It'll be very tough to top the original, but I'm looking forward to seeing them try! Update: I have no clue whether to believe this or not, but Gossip Cop (ugh) says that they contacted one of Will Smith's reps who apparently told them that all of this is "not true at this time." To me that sounds like they're just denying it temporarily for the time being (and it is true), plus I don't trust a gossip site over our fellow movie blog brethren. Just wanted to let you know this "update" claiming it's false is out there, at least.
  25. Most of us know about this elusive remix. It popped up on a few mixtapes (on actual cassettes) back in 1997/1998. It often had the mixtape host screaming over it. It was never released, not even on a proper promotional CD, cassette, or 12". However, nearly 10 years ago, it was briefly available on Amazon digitally. I'm not sure about other digital platforms. The remix then disappeared. Since FP didn't have music coming out, I haven't been looking for it. However, I just noticed that it's back. For those of you who didn't get to buy/download it, and for those that are new to this remix, here it is. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073J35F29/ref=dm_ws_sp_ps_dp Interestingly, the So So Def remix that was released on singles overseas was much smoother and featured LaTocha from Xscape on the hook. Here's a version of it that a DJ tweaked. The strange thing about the credits for this remix is that is says there's a rap performed by R.O.C. and that Lord Tariq + Peter Gunz provided additional vocals. Perhaps there's another version of it featuring R.O.C. (one of the dopest late 90's/early 00's emcees who never had his label released) and LT+PG on the hook.
