    SKEE-LO - I WISH

I just put on this on for the first time in a while. I'm curious if there's anyone who loves this album as much as I do. To me, this 1995 release is darn near perfect. Skee-Lo has lyrics, stories, and jokes. You could say that it generally has a west coast g-funk sound, but the sound is definitely broader than that. The title track was actually a huge smash. "Top of the Stairs" was a respectable follow-up single, which was also used on the Money Train soundtrack. "Superman" didn't generate the same attention. I know "Holdin' On" was released overseas with a more radio-ready remix, but I don't remember seeing the video in the US. I've always held this album close to my heart. When I put it on, it takes me right back to the summer of 1995. Anyone love this album or any of these songs?

    Jada's entanglement...

Let me start off by saying we don't know the full story. We don't have a place to judge. Who cares what any of us thinks on the matter? lol That being said, my thoughts are totally mixed on pretty much everything. If they were separated, whatever happens can happen. I've been in relationships where we take a break and one person takes advantage of that and the other does not. In the end, it never worked out. Jealousy and/or hurt exists, and eventually comes out. Very few relationships come out of something like that are as good as they were before. If they can do it, power to them. I always felt like if they broke up, Will would be the one to find someone new faster. It being Jada kind of surprised me. The whole thing about Will giving his blessing is weird to me, though. I find it hard to see him or any man doing that. Part of the male ego naturally isn't cool with that, even when separated. Jada dating younger during their separation isn't something I'm mad at. She's healthy and young in spirit. These days I tend to click with women that are much younger than I do ones that are about the same age. When they are the same age, their are either in a relationship, or often beat down from life to the point that I feel like we're on different plains. Will and Jada are always kind of cryptic when they talk about their relationship. If they were just transparent, it wouldn't leave room for people to paint their own vision of their relationship. The whole "life partner" role replacing "marriage partners" is a muddy description. May that works and maybe it doesn't. One thing I've noticed is that Will is kind of different when he's with Jada and family than like how he is in that video with Jeff and Charlie. I feel like I knew Will better when he was pumping out music and blockbuster films. I like what he's doing with his social media, but I feel like I don't him as well. If their relationship isn't good and they ended their partnership, I feel like we'd get more of the old Will. The video is tough to watch. Part of me thinks it was totally unnecessary. I don't know anything about August Alsina. Just based on his content and interviews, he seems kinda corny. He's trying to stir things up. At the same time, it's his life. He can do what he wants. Does his music and interviews require this video as a response? Jada actually comes off unapologetic and and annoying. The video isn't polished to look a certain way, because they only seem to be on the same page at certain parts of the video. Will clearly looks unhappy talking about stuff that is old. I want them to be happy. Hopefully their marriage only gets better. Will often says his first marriage ending was his worst failure. I'm just worried he is holding on to that and using it to keep himself in a marriage that shouldn't be in any more. I hope everyone gets the healing and resolution they need. p.s. I typed this really fast and didn't proof read it, so forgive me if it's full of errors. lol

JJFP on Instagram Live Wed 8PM EST

Man, I finally got to watch the whole thing. This was so good. I wanted to hear Jeff talk more, but his reactions kept me cracking up. Will definitely dominated the conversation. I love when they went into talking about their chemistry, the gun story, the times Charlie should have been fired, and why Will used his lower register on "Summertime". They should do these more often on Will's social media.

    DMC - Fight (new song)

DMC will never get rid of that old school flow, and I'm okay with that. I wish the bass hit harder on this, but overall I like it. It's nothing ground breaking, but it's good to hear something new from him. His voice seems a bit stronger on this!
  11. This is kind of funny. Singer/songwriter Stefan Murphy of the Mighty Stef posted this video on his Facebook, asking an important question I'm sure we've all wondered at some point in our lives: what would the Fresh Prince theme song sound like if it were a sad folk lament as heard in an Irish pub? https://boingboing.net/2020/07/03/the-fresh-prince-theme-song-as.html?fbclid=IwAR1cqywVZWdz8RR9byizuy8NAhTi13mYJqtlQnJVqNfh1syXwbc06YMnACE

    JJFP.COM FORUM REVIVAL

What's up, friends. Tim has been kind enough to keep this forum active in a time when message boards just aren't that popular anymore. Adult life can suck and take up some time, but I'm wondering if some of us could make it a point to use the forum more frequently. As we closed out another year, I was thinking about times happier and more carefree. Those times involved good music, good people, and socializing here (and elsewhere on the internet). I'm wondering who else might commit to checking the forum and posting more frequently. It's almost a slap in the face for Tim to keep the forum up and us not use it.

LL Cool J vs. Will Smith?

The whole battle idea is corny to me. If it's not rooted in reality, it just isn't interesting. They are talking about battling as presentation or a setup. The Fresh Prince and LL Cool J have been my two favorite emcees for about 30 years. I'd rather just hear them do some songs together. It's long overdue. Shoot, with their history, I"d just like to hear them talk for an hour about their music and history together.

    Movement on Bad Boys III

I saw Bad Boys For Life when it was still in theaters. I'm not gonna lie, I was underwhelmed. Some of the jokes and references to the past were too forced. Doing the Bad Boys/Cops theme song twice was too much. The villain was kind of weird and ill fitting for the Bad Boys franchise. Most of all, I absolutely hate what they did to Captain Howard. It's the only Bad Boys film that saw once in theaters. The others I had seen many times in theaters. I stewed in this underwhelmed state for while. I've been staying out of stores for the most part with everything that's going on, but I did go into a store to pick up BBFL on blu-ray. I will say that I enjoyed it more the second time around. Perhaps it's because my expectations had been lowered. There were still a few moments that I didn't like that much, but overall I enjoyed it much more the second time around. If they round it out with fourth, I hope they take it closer to its roots.

Will Smith & Joyner Lucas - Will (Remix)

I'm late on dropping a comment. Tim sent me a link to the video when this dropped. It was four in the morning when I saw it. I'm definitely love this. I had only ever heard of Joyner Lucas, but never listened to him before. I'm going to be a big repetitive in what I have to say, but I love how the lyrics are a humble balance of highlighting some of his accomplishment and giving props to those who influence and supported him. It's not just braggadocios, it's classy. At first I wasn't crazy about the modern choppy flow, though he puts more life into it than the 1,000 other modern rappers who sound tired and sloppy when they do it. I like that his vocally lets it build and shift to a more classic flow. Most of all, it's the first verse he's put out since 2005 where every single line counts. That was the great thing about Lost + Found. Not a single line was wasted. The same can be said for this. I also like that it doesn't have standard cookie cutter style, like verse, hook. verse, hook, verse, hook, fade. He just goes one. The crazy thing is that people wanna talk about how EVERYBODY things FP is corny in his music, but every time he does something, everybody reacts like in this reaction videos. Additionally, so many people say rap is a young boy's game, but virtually everyone is excited when the Prince does something like this. I'm not just being a cry baby fan when I say this, but he truly needs to put some focus into his music. Nobody thinks he's corny. Nobody things a dope artist is "too old" to be recording. He'd be breaking down barriers if his hit us with a full album and is properly distributed and promoted. As much as we have hated it, it might be good that he made us wait so long for a substantial body of work. The time seems more right than ever.

    JJFP.COM FORUM REVIVAL

It's funny that Facebook shut down the group page, but kept the Will Smith Music page up since it was branching off of the jjfp.com FB group. I was thinking maybe you could convert the Will Smith Music page to the new JJFP.com page. The sad thing is that there were hundreds of pictures, some of the very rare, that were in that group. :(

    DJ JAZZY JEFF ON COVID-19

Here he is talking about it in an interview. Here's an article from Billboard: https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/9358649/dj-jazzy-jeff-coronavirus-interviews DJ Jazzy Jeff Says Having Coronavirus 'Terrified Me To Death' 4/15/2020 by Glenn Rowley Erika Goldring/WireImage DJ Jazzy Jeff performs during the 2017 Hangout Music Festival Kick-Off on May 18, 2017 in Gulf Shores, Ala. On Tuesday (April 14), DJ Jazzy Jeff opened up on Tamron Hall about his scary experience with COVID-19. According to the DJ, he came down with the virus after performing at the annual Black Summit of the National Brotherhood of Skiers in Ketchum, Idaho in early March. (Following the event, over 100 attendees reportedly fell ill with COVID-19, bringing the virus home with them.) "I didn't even realize the severity of it," DJ Jazzy Jeff told host Tamron Hall over video chat. "When my wife and I were at the store, I looked at her and told her I didn’t feel well. And she was asking what was wrong, and I said ‘I feel a little achy, like I’m coming down with something.’ I literally went home and got into bed and almost don’t remember the next 11 days after that..." "When we finally were able to go to the doctor, they wouldn’t test me for COVID-19," he continued. "They gave me a flu test and then gave me an x-ray on my lungs and said I had pneumonia in both of my lungs, which terrified me to death." The DJ also called into Will Smith's Snapchat series, Will From Home, to detail his symptoms. "I had a temperature that reached 103. I had the chills. I lost sense of smell. I lost sense of taste," he told his longtime collaborator, before adding that he doesn't see the health crisis ebbing any time soon. "Unfortunately, people think we’re at the end [of the pandemic], and I think we’re really at the beginning."
