Friday July 23, 12:37 pm ET

GLENDALE, Calif., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Three unprecedented premieres, spanning two continents, three countries and two major film festivals will lead into the October 1 release of DreamWorks' computer-animated comedy "Shark Tale." Members of the film's all-star voice cast and soundtrack talent will be attending all of the premieres.

The historic Piazza San Marco in Venice will be the site of the first "Shark Tale" premiere when, for the first time ever, the square will be closed for the premiere of a feature film. The screening will be held on September 10 as part of the Venice Film Festival, making "Shark Tale" the first animated feature ever to be screened at the festival. A special 100-foot wide inflatable screen is being made for the event, which is expected to draw thousands of people.

Crossing the Atlantic, "Shark Tale" will have its North American premiere on September 12, as part of the Toronto International Film Festival. The animated comedy will be showcased in the first-ever daytime gala screening, which is anticipated to become a new tradition for the festival. The special family screening will be attended by more than 2,500 at Toronto's Roy Thompson Hall.

The cast and filmmakers then return to the United States for the September 27 New York premiere of "Shark Tale," which has been dubbed "Sharkspeare in the Park." In another unprecedented move, the premiere will be held outdoors at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, marking the first time ever that a movie has been screened at the landmark theatre, which is the traditional site of the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park plays. More than 1,800 guests are anticipated to attend.

Opening nationwide on October 1, 2004, "Shark Tale" tells the story of Oscar, a fast-talking little fish who dreams big. But his big dreams land him in hot water when a great white lie turns him into an unlikely hero. The film stars the voices of Academy Award® nominee Will Smith ("Ali") as Oscar, a hustler, who has always been able to fin-agle his way out of trouble, until now; two-time Academy Award® winner RobertDe Niro ("Raging Bull," "The Godfather, Part II") as Don Lino, a great white shark at the top of the Reef's food chain; Oscar® winner Renee Zellweger ("Cold Mountain") as Angie, a beautiful angel fish who harbors a secret crush on Oscar; Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie ("Girl, Interrupted") as Lola, the femme fatale, a dragon fish who uses her feminine wiles to get what she wants; Jack Black ("School of Rock") as Don Lino's son Lenny, a great white shark who is a closet vegetarian; and multiple Oscar®-nominated director Martin Scorsese ("Gangs of New York," "Goodfellas") as Sykes, a puffer fish who is full of hot air and never misses an opportunity to make a few extra clams.

Rounding out the main cast are: veteran actor Peter Falk ("Columbo") as Ira Feinberg, a shark who is long in the tooth, but still has plenty of bite left; Michael Imperioli ("The Sopranos") as Lino's oldest son Frankie, a chip off the old shark; Vincent Pastore ("The Sopranos") as Luca, an oily octopus, which makes him the perfect right-hand man; and Doug E. Doug and Ziggy Marley as Bernie and Ernie, two Rastafarian jelly fish with a stinging sense of humor.

"Shark Tale" is directed by Vicky Jenson, Bibo Bergeron and Rob Letterman, with Bill Damaschke, Janet Healy and Allison Lyon Segan producing.

The Shark Tale Soundtrack will feature such multi-platinum and Grammy-winning artists as Christina Aguilera & Missy Elliott, performing a new version of the disco classic "Car Wash"; Mary J. Blige doing "To Be Real"; and the film's Ziggy Marley partnered with Sean Paul on "3 Little Birds." The soundtrack will also feature "Shark Tale" star Will Smith, with many more artists to be announced shortly. The album cover art will feature "fishified" animations of the featured musical talent. The Shark Tale Soundtrack is set to be released September 28 on DreamWorks/Geffen Records.

DreamWorks SKG was formed in October, 1994, by its three principal partners-Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen-to produce live-action motion pictures; animated feature films; network and cable television programming; home video entertainment; books; toys; and consumer products.
