HOLLYWOOD star Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett are on vacation in Tanzania and on Tuesday the pair visited the branch of Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) in Bagamoyo before heading to Zanzibar.

Details about their visit were scanty but a source confirmed yesterday that the duo decided to spare a few hours of their leisure time to witness efforts taken by African scientists in the fight against Malaria.

The American actor and rapper is the Goodwill Ambassador for Malaria No More, a US-based Non-Governmental Organisation which is among institutions that recognize the contribution of IHI in public health research. In Bagamoyo IHI is conducting clinical trial research activities aimed at finding a vaccine for malaria.

A number of celebrities have been visiting the country to enjoy its tourist attractions such as Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater and the Islands of Unguja and Pemba. But most of them prefer their visits to be low key and kept secret.

Willard Christopher “Will” Smith, Jr (born September 25, 1968) is one of a small group of people who have enjoyed success in three major entertainment media in the United States. The respected Newsweek once called him the most powerful actor on the planet. Smith has been nominated for a Golden Globe, two Academy Awards, and has won multiple Grammys.
