  1. Aahh Visqo man, can't get my hopes up like that. I thought this was official when I read the title and jumped on it lol.

I really don't believe this, not even 0,1%. Will don't post on the internet, not like that anyway. I wish though, I wish this was true. Him and Jeff need to make another album. And Will has the power and money to collab with whoever he wants. I'd love for him to have Mos, Common etc. on it.

  2. The song sucks, Ems hook on this is repetitive and his voice is annoying (I hate when he sings in that weird witty voice, IMO he's at his greatest when he gets rough and controls his voice in a natural unforced way like Toy Soldiers, COMC, When I'm gone or rough like Till I collapse ) and 50 is just...well beyond horrible that I won't even bother.

The only great thing about this song is DRE. Shame he took that break and went producing, I seriously can't wait for his new album Detox. 2009 is gonna be great, Outkast, MOS, Dre...and many more.

  3. Although this does not justify it, I heard from an interview that he has childhood memories of his father beating his mother, and that he's sometimes still traumatized by this.

Yeah according to Chris his stepfather beat his mother. Which to me is all the more reason to never raise your hand to a woman yourself.

Yeah Big Will is right, that doesn't make sense to me. Shouldn't it be the other way around ?

My father beat my mother too but I'd rather kill myself than beat a woman or a kid, that's seriously pathetic what Chris did, the worst thing he could do IMO.

  4. Question, I might be wrong but I seem to remember (years ago) from watching the final FP episode backstage, where Will rapped Summertime. From the bloopers I've seen so far it only shows like the intro (couple seconds) and it ends there. Will says something like see ya in 2 minutes. Am I seeing things ? Or did he really sing a full song for the crowd ?

That's what pisses me off too. Such a great show and they force you to buy the 4 seasons and then leave out the final 2 ones. This is one of the greatest tv-shows ever, it deserves the respect. It made them sooo much money now they want to cut it because it's expensive ? I don't buy that, they release the crappiest stuff surely they can release the FP. Maybe that final scene where he performs Summertime is on the season 6 DVD.

  5. Hi guys, I am a Will Smith Fan from Hong Kong (a city of China). Glad to find this site.

Reading this post, I think some of you are seriously under estimating Will's ability as an actor. Yes, it is easy to list many actors who are considered better actors than Will (Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Johnny Depp, Russel Crowe etc. etc... to name a few). However, please remember that all these actors have played many great roles in great movies, while Will has NEVER been in a great movie. Will's best role to date is his role in the Pursuit of Happyness in my opinion. That said, even this movie is only a decent one, far from a great one, and the script and his charactor lacked depth. However, given such limited material, Will was able to give a fine and nuanced performance which is very touching and memorable. This demonstrates that he is a very good actor and has much potential that has not yet been explored.

As already said by many of you in this forum, what Will lacks is a great movie with a great director and great script. As regards the possibility of being outshined by other members of the cast, I am confident that if the script is great and Will plays a well written and compelling main character, he would not be outshined.

As a side note, just want to share what I think about comments on Will on the Internet. While Will's older movies such as Independence Day, MIB were very popular in Hong Kong, he was not really popular here then (I think it is mostly due to the difficulty for black actors to break out in Asia). However, starting with the Pursuit of Happyness and I am Legend, audience here began to really like and appreciate Will, and he is now a box office draw here. May be because audience here started to get familiar with Will more recently when he has matured as an actor, most of us here see Will as a very good actor. Therefore, when I started to search for information about Will on the Internet, I was really shocked to find that so many people (especially the so called movie buffs) think that Will is not that good an actor (although it seems that many among the general movie going public have a different opinion and they like Will as an actor). One reason is probably Will's lack of good movies as mentioned above, but I think another reason is that Will's early comedic image in Fresh Prince, Bad Boys, MIB etc makes it difficult for some to accept that Will has given a good dramatic performance even when he has indeed give one.

Hope Will can soon find his great role.

Hi there, welcome to the boards.

That's one of the best posts I've ever read regarding this subject. And your English is excellent too.

  6. Well I didn't see any performance that deserved an oscar... If you set out to try and win an oscar you never will.. It's really a by-product of good work.. Will needs to start thinking, I need to work with great producers, great script writers and assemble a really good cast and a great director.. That should be his focus.

a great cast would probably outshine him tho

Yes, just like he was outshined in Hancock by Theron, or in Ali, Enemy of the state, MIB or Six degrees.

Will is one of the best actors of his generation. The reason he's being downplayed a lot and underrated by many as an actor is (just like Tim mentioned) cause he surrounds himself with mediocre people which produce mediocre movies. How many actors are there that have the ability to play in almost ANY genre and deliver like he does ? The only ones that come to my mind are Johnny Depp...and even he doesn't have the same versatility as Will. His biggest problem as mentioned before is his lack of picking the right script or picking the right people to work on his projects.

    :yeahthat:

  8. The day Will stops making movies mainly for the 20M or for the oscar run is the day Will will reach his peak. I felt like I was watching a movie that was a vehicle for Smith to run for the Oscars and to make the viewer as sentimental and teary as possible and it made no sense to me (All of my friends knew the ending after like 10 mins, the jellyfish thing was absurd). I mean when you're a scriptwriter for so long and all you've done is write for Sabrina and some other silly sitcom how smart would it be for Will to work with this guy ? I had my prejudices about this situation and I was kinda hoping for a miracle that the scriptwriter would've come up with something good. I don't blame Muccino a lot even though I don't like him that much, this movie comes down to the script, as simple as that. It's beyond horrible that it just doesn't work on that level. This is one flop that could've been prevented by Will himself. He is one of Hollywoods WORST actors when it comes to script selection. He is so huge and powerful as an actor in Hollywood that he can work with whoever he wants.

I'm gonna wait and see what his next move is going to be, he has a couple years to bounce back and to live up to his own potential and peak. If this is Wills peak, I'm not too optimistic about the next 10 years.

Sorry for the harsh words, I'm just a bit furious at Will.

  9. Music or movies I love Will, no matter what. It would be hard for me to pick a side since he is so talented at both.

So if he quits music I can live with that. If he quits acting I can live with that too. But not if he quits at both.

Obviously music is what most of us connected to Will 20 years ago. Not only is it Wills true love (rapper actor not the other way around, no matter what Will says) deep down it's also what the majority of the fans prefer about him. If I really REALLY had to pick a side it would be music no doubt. At least the quality of his music isn't dependant on others. His acting career is limited because of the (lack of) talent working WITH him. Seven Pounds along with his recent and most movies aren't on the same quality as Wills acting talent because it's about teamwork, having a great actor isn't enough, you need good writers, directors etc. to lift your career to its potential. So far it's a failure no doubt. What pisses me off is the fact that he still isn't aware of this.

Another thing that bugs me a lot lately is that I'm not feeling Will as much as I would like to. I feel like disconnected to him. I used to care a lot about his work...lately when a movie comes out I don't have the same old excitement anymore. I watch it because I feel obligated to support him and I wish the very best for him but I'm not having a great time while watching one of his movies, especially lately. I Robot, Bad Boys 2 didn't do well critically but at least I enjoyed those movies a lot, the entertainment factor was there.

When he talks serious it really turns me off...sometimes he makes sense but often it feels awkward. I keep asking myself is this the same Prince from a couple of years ago ? Not serious in the ''keeping it real'' style, but weird serious a la Tom.

It's like his Hollywood pals are having a different influence on him. I used to love it when he was surrounded with his Philly friends, especially Jeff. More Jeff less Tom please. Sure the media are hyping things up and are waiting to attack Will and bring him down. But it bugs me a lot when Will isn't aware of that and makes ignorant comments about Scientology and compare it with the Bible and say it's 99% the same. He made a lot of ignorant comments like that in the past couple years. He can say what he wants I really don't care about his personal beliefs, but I'd hate it if those comments would end up killing his career.

He keeps saying he's in his prime now, as an actor. If he keeps making mediocre movies like Hancock, SP etc. he might as well give up on his acting career and focus on his music career. That's what really bugs me. I really wish the best for him and I hope he keeps making movies worthy of his talent. If that happens I can live with him quitting on his music career. But if that doesn't happen it'll really piss me off.
