Adam McKay Signing On To Direct ‘Uptown Saturday Night’ Remake; Will Smith, Denzel Washington Eyed To Star EXCLUSIVE: Adam McKay is in negotiations to develop to direct Uptown Saturday Night, the Warner Bros remake that the studio hopes will star Will Smith and Denzel Washington. Smith and James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment has been developing the project. Tim Dowling wrote the most recent draft. The idea is for McKay to helm the film after he completes a sequel to Anchorman, the Will Ferrell-starrer that Paramount has set for an early 2013 start and 2014 release. McKay and Ferrell wrote that script and Judd Apatow is producing. McKay most recently helmed The Other Guys, and before that Talladega Nights. He’s repped by WME. The 1974 comedy starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier as pals who visit an illegal nightclub, and are forced to hand over their wallets to thieves. Turns out one of them contains a winning lottery ticket, emboldening the duo to bump up against the criminal element to get back the wallet. There are plenty of remakes that elicit groans. If this package comes together (Smith and Washington have long wanted to work together), with McKay’s comic sensibility, this redo could be exceptional. Hey, another Spanish over here! Welcome. I'm sure he'll come to Spain to promote the movie next month. But, is it possible to know which day will be in Madrid? I don't know about that yet, I just know he'll be in Paris on May 11th, in Berlin on May 14th and in New York on May 23rd. And he'll probably be in UK on May 16th. But I don't know which day he'll be promoting the movie in Madrid. We'll know it soon though! :)

Young adult novel revolves around teenage assassin Sony Pictures is in early talks to acquire pic rights to Allen Zadoff's novel "Boy Nobody," with plans to develop it as a starring vehicle for Jaden Smith. Sony had no comment. Sources tell Variety that the studio beat out 20th Century Fox for the property and has begun negotiations, although they caution that a deal has not yet closed. "Boy Nobody" is the first in a planned young adult trilogy about a brainwashed teenage assassin who starts to regain his emotions. Little, Brown will publish the novel next spring. The book's main character is reminiscent of a teenage Jason Bourne, with Zadoff describing the young protag as a "young soldier trained not to feel; who could function in every situation without fear, sympathy or anger; who could assassinate strangers and then walk away emotionally unscathed." Stuart Krichevsky negotiated the book deal and CAA shopped the film rights to Zadoff's tome, which grew out of the author coping with the death of his mother in 2010. Title attracted plenty of interest when it was recently shopped at the Bologna Children's Book Fair. Zadoff's most recent book is "My Life, the Theater, and Other Tragedies." Smith, who previously starred in Sony's "The Karate Kid" reboot" and "The Pursuit of Happyness," as well as 20th Century Fox's remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still." He's now filming M.
