  1. Here he is talking about it in an interview. Here's an article from Billboard: https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/hip-hop/9358649/dj-jazzy-jeff-coronavirus-interviews DJ Jazzy Jeff Says Having Coronavirus 'Terrified Me To Death' 4/15/2020 by Glenn Rowley Erika Goldring/WireImage DJ Jazzy Jeff performs during the 2017 Hangout Music Festival Kick-Off on May 18, 2017 in Gulf Shores, Ala. On Tuesday (April 14), DJ Jazzy Jeff opened up on Tamron Hall about his scary experience with COVID-19. According to the DJ, he came down with the virus after performing at the annual Black Summit of the National Brotherhood of Skiers in Ketchum, Idaho in early March. (Following the event, over 100 attendees reportedly fell ill with COVID-19, bringing the virus home with them.) "I didn't even realize the severity of it," DJ Jazzy Jeff told host Tamron Hall over video chat. "When my wife and I were at the store, I looked at her and told her I didn’t feel well. And she was asking what was wrong, and I said ‘I feel a little achy, like I’m coming down with something.’ I literally went home and got into bed and almost don’t remember the next 11 days after that..." "When we finally were able to go to the doctor, they wouldn’t test me for COVID-19," he continued. "They gave me a flu test and then gave me an x-ray on my lungs and said I had pneumonia in both of my lungs, which terrified me to death." The DJ also called into Will Smith's Snapchat series, Will From Home, to detail his symptoms. "I had a temperature that reached 103. I had the chills. I lost sense of smell. I lost sense of taste," he told his longtime collaborator, before adding that he doesn't see the health crisis ebbing any time soon. "Unfortunately, people think we’re at the end [of the pandemic], and I think we’re really at the beginning." Watch both of DJ Jazzy Jeff's interviews for more about his "Keep Yo A** In Da House" social distancing campaign below.
  2. This was fun! The 80's vibe really took me back. I liked hearing him talk about the transition from an independent label to Jive. I've never heard him address it before. It was also cool to hear him talk about the "Nightmare On My Street" music video before it got pulled. I really wanna know what that new jack swing song was that was in the middle of the video. I don't recall every hearing it and I love it. I couldn't find it by Googling the lyrics.
  3. I never thought of Smooth B fro Nice & Smooth as a solo artist. Greg Nice was always the more lyrical one with a stronger presence...but I was wrong. Smooth B just dropped a solo song and I love it! SMOOTH B - Before (2020)
  4. PETE ROCK + C.L. SMOOTH - Straighten It Out Mecca & The Soul Brother (1992)
  5. Nice! I've never seen this clip before!
  6. We got new Dru Hill, too! I miss the original lineup, but good music is good music. DRU HILL - What You Need (2020)
  7. Jo Jo just released a solo single. The urban AC sound is a little boring and the auto-tune touches are unnecessary, but it's good to hear something new from him. He excels better in a group, but it's good to hear something new from him. JO JO - Special (2020)
  8. Man, I couldn't just leave this as what I was listening to. This deserved a post of its own. Check out Rakim's Tiny Desk Concert. After this, I'd love to hear him do an album with all live instruments.
  9. Chico did well in the late 90's, but I never really listened to him. I'm revisiting it, really listening to it for the first time, and I'm liking what I'm hearing. CHICO DEBARGE - The Game The Game (1999)
  10. Why aren't more of y'all into this album? They just dropped a remix of "Bad Name" featuring Method Man and Redman! http://premierwuzhere.com/videos/gang-starr-feat-method-man-redman-bad-name-remix/?fbclid=IwAR1StuxPZ3H98vOqOAFm4TIyFRiJy4Tg_jouM01QC0k217eFSI2OCWK51hA
  11. I can't remember the last time I genuinely loved a hardcore Hip-Hop track this much. LORDS OF THE UNDERGROUNG w/ ONYX - What's Up (2020)
  12. I wasn't much of a Biggie fan, but I did love this song on first listen! I never saw the movie Phat Beach, but I recently got the soundtrack. I instantly fall in love with this song. DEF JEF - 80 Ways Phat Beach soundtrack (1995)
  13. I'm not into sports, so I didn't follow Kobe, but I remember when he was working on an album in the late 90's/early 2000's that never came out. Rest easy. Prayers for his family. KOBE BRYANT w/ TYRA BANKS - K.O.B.E. (2000)
  14. If Heavy D isn't in your top, I don't really care about your Hip-Hop related opinions. HEAVY D & THE BOYZ - Who's The Man Blue Funk (1992)
  15. I was digging through a used music store yesterday and someone unloaded their D'Angelo CD singles and a live EP. These remixes and live cuts are reintroducing me to one of my favorite albums in a new way. D'ANGELO - Brown Sugar Brown Sugar (1995)
  16. Man, maybe I need to see it again. I thought it was alright. Just alright. It didn't feel like a Bad Boys movie to me. I thought some of the dialogue and comedy was weak and forced. The beginning of it felt very rushed. Dipping into the super natural was just weird. Poorly singing "Bad Boys" is only funny for so long. I don't see a lot of Michael Bay films, but I feel that the Bad Boys movies were where he excelled and I miss his directing style and use of color lighting. I really hate that one bold decision they made. Since I no longer have expectations for it, maybe I'll enjoy it more if I see it again...but I don't really have a desire to see it in theaters again.
  17. I love his flow on "Godzilla". He seriously races the rhyme as you get into the song. I just find the beat hard to swallow. The guy on the hook does nothing for me. He sounds like everyone on urban radio.
  18. I've previewed it. It didn't grab me as much as his first few albums, but I did at least generally like what I heard. I haven't gotten into the lyrics yet. Like most of his recent projects, the production goes from bad to good. I do love "Darkness".
  19. Now I'm falling down the Freestyle hole... PAJAMA PARTY - Yo No Se Up All Night (1989)
  20. I was just introduced to this song. I'm pretty sure I never heard it before as a kid. I'm a big fan of Freestyle music and always want to explore, but never seem to have the time. This just dropped in my lap. Strangely, this particular song isn't sung by the actual artist (though he did perform it live). It's actually sung by Elan Lanier. NOLAN THOMAS - Yo, Little Brother Yo, Little Brother (1984)
  21. Yes, it's from Word 2. The song was done before He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper. The verse from it made it into the live version of "Brand New Funk." https://www.discogs.com/Various-Word-2/release/1540930
  22. House Party is a classic. I wouldn't want it any other way, but there's no denying that a JJ+FP version would have been just as good.
  23. If he doesn't want to commit to an album yet, he should just drop singles on a regular basis. All the songs we've heard on his social media that hasn't released are a missed opportunity.
