  1. The trailer is just what I expected. Looks like this will be a great movie for kids. If you're over 15 and you're excited about this, something is wrong with you

kinda difficult to say that to people (inlcuding yourself i supose) who are listening to songs like parents just dont understand

i think it looks nice, i'll go and see it with my girl, should be fun

Unfortunately, I haven't listened to parents just don't understand in quite some time. Though if I did listen to it, it would be more a means to reminisce about old school hip hop, not to necessarily relate to the message of the song... a fact which is likely true for many of us (including yourself I suppose).

  2. Wow MaxFly that was a good review,, I think that if you have a god netbook and an iphone 3g u dont need the ipad.. we are in a reccesion people!

    Thanks...

I agree 100%. Right now, I'm loading Turbo Tax 2009 onto my girlfriend's net book. I'm almost certain there's no app for than on the iPad, lol. I think if you have an iPhone 3G and a net book, you'll be fine. You have mobile e-mail, internet and GPS with the iPhone as well as all the apps, and you have a more powerful machine for word processing, but also a large screen for watching movies, more space to store media, and a camera for video conferencing over Skype in a netbook.

The iPad is cool, I'm not going to lie... I like the idea, but it's not practical enough to replace a notebook or a net book. Right now, it's more of a media device, and since that's the case, it needs to be cheaper.

You know what I really like... The rumored Courier from Microsoft... That tablet will be all kinds of awesome if Microsoft can pull it off...

  3. I really don't have much to say about Will's aspirations about being President. I think that this is simply a phase. He's become so enamored of the current President that he's in this haze that I'm sure he will snap out of as soon as he starts production of his next movie.

he clearly doesn't realize that you don't change anything in Politics..you don't leave a great imprint on society..all you do is become good at being a politician.

Don't know about this.... Who the President is and what his ideology is is paramount in the direction the US heads. Had we had a President who was more sensible in 2002 and 2003, the US almost certainly wouldn't have wasted billions of dollars on regime change in Iraq. That's money that wouldn't have been added to this huge deficit we currently have, and some of which could have gone to reinvesting in education, infrastructure and health care in this country. I challenge anyone to tell someone who's lost a loved in Iraq that politics and politicians don't leave a great impact on society.

Government has it's benefits... Millions of Americans have health care today who wouldn't have it otherwise had politicians not required big employers to offer their workers insurance at discount rates. The big employers would not have done it otherwise. Millions of Americans have homes because politicians passed laws to offer banks incentives to give people cheaper loans so that they can afford mortgages. The banks would not have done it otherwise. Millions of Americans have safer working conditions today because politicians passed laws that required standard safety measures and precautions to be in place. Businesses have fought regulation at every turn for centuries.

A politician issued the Emancipation Proclamation and freed a generation of slaves, risking the fracturing of the US and the dissolution of the Union. A politician of a different ideology would have almost certainly delayed such progress. That politician ended up paying the ultimate price for his ideology as did thousands of Americans. A generation of Africans Americans have the opportunity to go to good schools, and good colleges and find good jobs without much fear of discrimination due primarily to the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s, but also due to politicians who, as a result of the Movement, put laws in place to outlaw discrimination and end Jim Crow.

I understand why people have become increasingly disillusioned with politicians. It often seems that change takes place far too slowly and that many of them sell out to special interests. But I'd made the point that even when they do their jobs poorly, they affect millions of Americans and people all around the world who desperately need them to do their jobs well. Tell those affected by the decisions of Woodrow Wilson, FDR, Harry Truman and George W. Bush that those men didn't leave a sizeable impact on society. Even politicians of lesser stature like Ted Kennedy and Joseph McCarthy have had great impacts. It all depends on how seriously you take the duty you've been entrusted with and what you do with it.

  4. Yeah... this is exactly what I was talking about a few years ago when I noted that portable media devices, especially devices that can play video and allow for web access, would be big going forward. People will always find ways to incorporate these devices into their lives and they can be really useful.

Unfortunately, I'm not particularly impressed with the iPad. I think Apple could have created a much better product since they have done an outstanding and innovative job on past products.

By and large, this is a big iPod touch (that's both good and bad). It's good for watching video and listening to music on a larger screen, as well as playing games and running the thousands of apps from the app store. Unfortunately, Steve Jobs said that this is the best web browsing experience that we've ever had, but I don't see how that can be the case. The iPad lacks support for Adobe Flash, and with so many websites employing flash to make their sites more interactive, the iPad will force users to miss out on a big and important part of the web experience. During the iPad unveiling, Steve himself had trouble loading content from the New York Times website on the iPad because that content was created in Flash. Services like Hulu and Fancast (which both allow you to watch tv shows on their sites), and the video and some of the content on websites of the big networks like NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and MSNBC will be impaired as well.

The iPad is also a device that generates continued revenue. By that, I mean that people who want to use it to it's fullest capabilities will continue to spend money on it long after they've bought it as they buy apps and accessories. The iPad lacks a USB port for connecting cameras, printers, external hard drives (needed since the standard sizes are small - 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB), or other peripheral devices... But there will be an accessory for that. The touch screen keyboard is great, but Apple will be selling a physical keyboard as well since the touch screen keyboard will be difficult for prolonged typing. The iPad lacks a camera (something even some of the most basic netbooks have) for video conferencing on Skype and such... but there's an accessory for that. You can also buy a more expensive version of the iPad that has 3G for an uninterrupted internet connection via a cell phone carrier, but that will cost you about $130 more on the base price of the model you get and an additional monthly fee for the data rate based on the carrier you get. Overall, the continued revenue model is a smart strategy on Apple's part, but it's a little tougher on the consumer than it should be. (I don't count the 3G component as continued revenue though... that's a great feature for those who want it)

The lack of multitasking is also a hindrance. Lets say a friend sends you an e-mail with a few links... You can't check your e-mail and view those links at the same time while toggling between the mail client and safari. Or you can't use AIM while surfing the web. You can't toggle back and forth between Google Maps and safari...

I think the iPad is a good product for what it is. You can read books, surf the web, play games, listen to music, watch videos and run a ridiculous number of apps... but the web experience won't be what it should be, the small storage space means that if you're traveling and you're doing any work, you're probably going to have to take your laptop with you, and the fact that you'll likely have to buy more accessories means that it may not be as portable as it should be. The iPad is good, but it could have been better.

  5. 'The Karate Kid' redo: testing through the roof

Generation Xers may have bemoaned the redo of their 1984 childhood favorite The Karate Kid (I know I did) with none other than silver spooner Jaden Smith taking on the Ralph Macchio role. But, perhaps the results from Sony’s early test screening of the movie from director Harold Zwart (The Pink Panther) will win converts to rejiggering Mr. Miyagi’s karate-lessons-hidden-in-manual labor. (Jackie Chan takes on the Wax on, Wax off mentor role.)

The studio tells EW that the film scored just below Sony’s highest research screening ever, 2005’s Hitch, which ironically starred Jaden Smith’s dad Will, the last reigning movie star. With positive scores in the 97th percentile, the movie, which doesn’t open until June 11, might be one of those films that outdoes everyone’s expectations. Not that it’s likely to match Hitch’s gross, but that film did earn close to $370 million worldwide. The movie’s biggest challenge now will be going up with another ’80s classic: The A-Team, starring Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson, which makes June 11 one fat nostalgia fest.

Lol, I know people are going to be mad... but kids are going to like it. :wave2:

  6. Flowers for Algernon is an excellent story, and it's a great idea for Will to do a film adaptation. Cliff Robertson won his Oscar in 1969... it is now 2009. That's 40 years, and 2 generations that likely aren't familiar with Robertson's depiction, which, unfortunately, is rather obscure anyway. I see no problem with Will making this film and I trust that he's not doing it, as the article suggests, to chase an Oscar, but rather because he loves the story and believes it can use a modern take.

R&B star Usher is ready to be done with his soon-to-be ex-wife Tameka Foster-Raymond and the singer puts the ordeal to a beat with the release of his latest song 'Papers.' Just as expected the lyrics of the song are as juicy as they are candid. "Who the hell argues and fights like dogs at 6 in the morning?/ I know its gonna' be some more s--- tonight," he sings. "Our pastor's calling telling me I done went too far and/ I'm seen around town and my friends can't recognize me, 'cuz I took a chance on love."

Clearly addressing what some saw as erratic behavior in defense of his two-year marriage to Foster-Raymond, Usher is now singing a different tune. "I done damn near lost my mama/I done been through so much drama/ I done turned into the man I never thought I'd never be/I'm ready to sign them papers."

Usher also states that his relationship with Foster-Raymond was opportunistic on her part. "I ain't afraid to say I have needs/the only time you here for me is when the bottles poppin' and everything is sweet/but I'm tired of sleeping in the other room/spending them long nights trying to figure out what in the hell in my heart I ain't do right."

Since announcing the split in June, the Grammy winner has remained mum on the details surrounding the dissolution of marriage. Our guess is that he's saving a good portion of those stories for his upcoming release tentatively titled 'Raymond vs. Raymond.'

The couple tied the knot in 2007 amid reports that their union caused a rift between Usher and his mother Jonetta Patton, who did not attend the ceremony. Following his nuptials Usher dropped his fifth album 'Here I Stand.' The record failed to come close to the colossal success of his previous release 'Confessions' which spawned several hits and sold over 1 million units in its first week.

His latest album is said to feature production from Jermaine Dupri, Ne-Yo and The Neptunes.

I'm sorry for his troubles... but this is going to make for a hot album.

  8. I'm in!! you got nba 2k10? That game is off the chain

I've heard man... I'm thinking about getting a 360 just to get it... I've seen some of the commercials and watched some of the feature videos... The game looks ridiculous...

I forgot to mention in my origial post that I'm gonna need people's e-mails in order to send out the invites. Sorry about that.

  9. Hi everyone... As you know, the NBA season will be starting up soon and I'm thinking about creating an ESPN NBA Fantasy League for JJFP. In the past, we've done Yahoo Fantasy Leagues, but ESPN's system seems a lot smoother and easier to use. If you'd like to join, post here and post your e-mail address or PM it to me and I'll send out invites... I'm trying to limit it to 8 or 10, but if we get more people, we could very well go with that, or do multiple leagues.

    Let me know!
