1. Maybe FP wanted 2 re-work the whole album. Maybe something about the retro-Hip-Hop thing wazn't working out. Pink started working on her last album as a death-metal type vibe and realized that it wazn't working....so she took it back 2 square one.

However, maybe retro-Hip-Hop is still the vibe. Just cuz he's got a reggae artist on the album or a Korean producer dosen't mean it can't still be retro-Hip-Hop. It would also be silly 2 have every song sound really similar so i think experimenting is important. He dosen't wanna do the same thing over and over again. The only newz that i havn't liked about this new album is the 4 trax he did with Petey Pablo. Petey is trash and i can't imagin him not ruining whatever song he's on.

Keep in mind that the source up there said May of next year may be the release date. That's plenty of time 2 work on new music and plenty of time 2 deside what he wants 2 do.
2. Very interesting. Will is just going worldwide on this album. He's got people from all around the country and world having input on the album. Elephant Man is alright. I like reggae, but mostly the kind that is heavily R-N-B or Hip-Hop influenced. Snow, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Supercat, Wayne Wonder, etc. Elephant Man isn't my fav...but witht the right track, i'd be happy. He did a track on Biz Markie's latest album. He's best known 4 his current hit "Jook Gal" w/ the remix featuring Twista. His voice is kinda like Ja-Rule's if it waz a little higher and not rapping...ha ha.

May of next year is a bit of a wait, but i think that the timing sounds good. Think about it...lots of good things come out in that month (albums, TV shows, movies, etc)> Having an FP album out in late-spring/early summer would be great. Hopefully we'll hear something on the Sharktale soundtrack from him 2 hold us over. Also, hopefully there won't be any movies 2 steal attention from the album at all during that time.

Over 2 years of recording 2 drop an album...sounds like a good album me...with 10 months 2 go, he still has time 2 do more music.
3. Yeah, i just think the JJ+FP chemistry is untouchable and with him being in Philly 4 most of the album's recoding process...it just brought back everything that made JJ+FP great. None of that was used 2 promote the album (tho' Jazzy Jeff did get in2 every Willennium video since he scratched on those trax). If they used JJ and ATOJ's work as promotion, i think it would have been huge and fix the image Columbia waz busy tweaking 4 the worse.
4. I agree with pretty much everything u said TopDawg. I guess i'm just happy 2 hear something new. However, i do have faith that Mase will keep his new outlook on music more postive and tastefull. Only time will tell tho.'

Prince, i'm not dissing lambert at all...when i talk down on music i don't like, it's cuz i think they trash....not 2 insult somebody who dose like them. If that waz the case, i'd take alot of things personal cuz there's definitly some people here who don't like half of the stuff i listen 2.
5. I actually have a JJ+FP "Summertime" CD...one of nothing but every version of "Summertime" and another with all their summertime and feel-good trax. I'm actually making a new version of it cuz "Summatime" off Jazzy Jeff + A Touch of Jazz's "Rimz" EP needs 2 be put on there. The album is perfect tho'...2 me trax like "The Rain" and "Afro Angel" totally fit the autumn and winter time so while they are very good songs, they don't fit on the CD i'm talking about. When i make my new version of this CD, i'll post the tracklisting.
6. Put on "Summertime"...that's what's it's like here in H-town Maryland. The weather is gorgous....it's just unreal. And it's not one of those summers where u are so blazing hot that u are uncomfortable. Most of the weather is just perfect, sunny skys, warm days, comfortable nites.
7. Born To Reign is a summertime album tho'. I think it would have done worse in the winter. 95% of that album is so summery when it comes 2 sound and lyrics, it just wouldn't fit in the winter in my opinion. Men In Black 2 waz a hit after all, u think that would have helped the album out a lil' bit. "BSC" also got decent play in the beginning so it's not like that track waz totally ignored. Will also did a do a decent bit of promotion on TV and various morning shows. However, after that, the only musical promotion he did waz when he did "1,000 Kisses" live on BET when he put out the video (months 2 late).
8. I have a few summertime Hip-Hop mix CDs i've made. Either strictly about Summertime or they just have that feel-good Hip-Hop feel 2 them. Off the top of of my head...here's some trax.

FP "Just Cruisin'"
FP + Tra-Knox "Block Party"
JJ+FP "Lovely Daze"
L.L. Cool J "Summa Luv"
L.L. CooL J + Total "Loungin' (Who Do Ya Luv)"
L.L. Cool J "Luv U Better"
Biz Markie "Turn Back The Hands of Time"
Biz Markie "Friends"
Skee-Lo "Just Like That"
Ahmad "Back In The Day"
Ill Al Skratch "Summertime (It's All Good)"
Smooth "Summertime (Let It Get Into You)
Smooth "Jeepz N' Benzos"
M.C. Hammer "I Need That Number"
M.C. Hammer "Cali"
Nick Cannon "When You Need Me"
Nick Cannon "Attitude"
Doctor Dre + Ed Lover "For The Love of You"
T.W.D.Y. "Players Holiday"
Coolio "Show Me Love"
Coolio "Fantastic Voyage"
Coolio "All That Way Live"
Naughty By Nature "Feels Good"
Naughty By Nature "Feel Me Flow"
Kris Kross "Alright"

Check those songs...u can thank me later. :music:
9. Lyrically, "Freakin' It" wazn't weak...but the prouduction waz. Bottom line. That song has been sampled in Hip-Hop over 100 times, no lie. Nobody wanted 2 hear that beat again. That's okay tho'...cuz it never got played anyway.

The thing that happened with Willennium is classic 'album after smash success album' type stuff. After a 1st album which is huge, the label gives that artist alot more freedom and dosen't fight them on how the album is put 2gether. That's good 4 the artist but kinda un-inspiring. Sometimes artists ruin that, but Will did a great job with it.

I read a Pink interview where she talked about recording "Misundastood" which waz a smash, but the label fought her and fought her about how she recorded it (after her 1st album did well with her as and R-N-B artist). The album came out and waz huge 4 over an entire year. Then, with her current album, they let her do what she wanted...but the quality of music wazn't that good. They didn't fight her cuz the last waz a big success. Same with Will, he had BWS which waz huge, so he got 2 do what he wanted...which is why it's his best solo album. Even if u like another solo album better, u gotta admit that the quality of music is the best.
10. Born To Reign waz ruined from the start when it came 2 promotion. They used "Black Suits Comin'" as the leading single. With the past 2 albums, the soundtrack songs were on the album, ruining the flow, but they released the album and the soundtrack with a gap putting that soundtrack song with the soundtrack, and a real song as the 1st single 4 the album. With Born To Reign, they dropped the soundtrack (which sucked) and Will's album 2gether. MONTHS later they dropped "1,000 Kisses" (good single...very very bad timing).

Here's my line-up for Born To Reign...

June/July - "HOW DA BEAT GOES" - Great production, fun lyrics...this is exactly what u'd expect from Will Smith on Columbia. Fun party joint, but not made radio friendly like "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It." This waz the perfect 1st single.

Then, late July, they should have released "Block Party" to radio. That would be the perfect double threat single 2 radio. That's what Usher usually does, release the songs 2 radio b4 the videos and while the past single is still hot (a week or 2 ago he had Yeah!, Burn, and Confessions all in Billboard's Top 10). While "How Da Beat Goes" waz blazing, "Block Party" would have been the perfect, laid-back summertime joint 2 counter it on radio.

Then, in September / October, hit 'em with "Act Like You Know"...the perfect club banger and perfect 4 the fall time of year.

If the album is still going strong...hit 'em with "1,000 Kisses" 2 take it back 2 some radio friendly stuff...but "Give Me Tonite" is a better song. Fly, thick production and lyrics that all the fellas could relate 2.

It wazn't that hard!!! Man, Columbia is just ignorant. Oh well, some things happen 4 a reason. Now Will is off Columbia with a chance of releasing real music and Born To Reign has been 4gotten by the mainstream audience. FP's tyme is now...we just gotta wait 4 him.
11. I wouldn't want Trey seriously doing music until he's like 16. That's the youngest i think a new Hip-Hop artists should come out. If they come out b4 that age, u can't take them seriously and they have a really hard time shaking off the kiddie-emcee rap even when they grow up.
12. Exactly. The difference is...what makes me mad is when somebody who dosen't know about real Hip-Hop or isn't knowlegble on old skool gets 2 make a list like this. I don't care about agreeing with a list...i only care about who actually make it on the list. For instance, somebody who got in2 Hip-Hop during the mid or late 90's can't put a decent list 2gether if they havn't educated themselves on old skool Hip-Hop.

Here's another thing i go by. If Rakim isn't in the top 3...then the list is crap. Also, if any rapper/emcee who came out in the last 8-10 years or so is in the top 10...it's crap.
13. I have an external CD burner and It has nothing 2 do with computers. I just hook my turntable 2 the burner and do it manually. The sound is perfect...some people on this board may have gotten a mix-CD off me thru' a trade or something and they can back me up...the sound it amazing. The only thing that can take away from it is if the vinyl waz pre-owned and makes the kinda noise that used vinyl makes when being played. Much of the early JJ+FP stuff is ONLY on vinyl so this kinda CD burner is a real blessing. Crystal clear old skool vinyl on CD.
14. There is a difference between rap artists who are mindless, uncreative fools who make music just 2 make money, get fame, and get STDs from the nasty ho's that go 2 their trashy shows AND Hip-Hop musicians who make music cuz they love it and happen 2 get fame and success thru' it.

In other words, look at it this way...FP makes music cuz he loves it, and while it wazn't accepted so well, he took some risks by experimenting with Born To Reign. Then look at Ja-Rule...he dosen't have a talented bone in his body and dosen't care about being creative or a real artists...he just cares about getting money, slutty young girls, and a famous status. Let's just say there are some Fresh Princes in this world...but there is alot more Ja-Rules.

p.s. U sure it's not G-ay Unit?!?
15. Willennium wazn't Big Willie Style, but it wazn't a flop. "Wild Wild West" waz a huge success (tho' it waz also a part the WWW soundtrack). "Will 2K" waz a big hit 2...but it waz way 2 time senstive. Will promoted the album himself and Columbia handled the posters and magazine ads (which were good in the beginning). After that, things fell apart. Columbia turned their back on "So Fresh" and pushed "Freakin' It"...one of the weakest tracx on the album. The only CD single released waz "Freakin' It" which waz backed with "Pump Me Up"...but the House Mix and Instrumentals were weak trax 2 put on it. The album did get decent attention, good sales, and musically saved some people's opinions of him after BWS (which waz very mainstream).

The great thing about Willennium is obviously the quality of music. Who cares about multi-platnium sales when u have an album that good.
16. It's not the recording part that will suck, it's about being precise about it all. I want the music 2 start within the first 2 seconds of the track playing and ending when the music has totally faded. Since u have 2 go by ear when burning stuff from vinyl 2 CD, my picky standards will probably have me recording many of them multiple times.

I STILL havn't gotten the instrumental version of The Magnificent on CD becuz the trax pick up right where the last left off...so there's no really good way 2 set when the trax start and stop.
17.
if Will and Jeff will come back toghether 4 a full disc they will just look like 2 old guys that try 2 remake they great career and i'm not sure it will work... I think that just 3 or 4 tracks from all the disc need 2 b with Jeff not more...
U could only say something like that if u weren't down with JJ+FP when they were doin' their thing. JJ+FP would be welcomed back by alot of people. They don't need 2 come back and try 2 re-create what they once have. When u are the kinda group who made the kinda impact they did, people are just happy 2 have u back and don't expect u 2 do the same things...they just expect the same quality in new skool/old skool fashion. If JJ+FP came back, i highly doubt they'd be trying 2 do totally mainstream stuff at all. It would be JJ+FP for the current times and 4 the fans, not 4 the charts. I think that they'd still get mainstream success tho' without really trying. Limiting the trax Jeff dose is a stupid idea 2 me...think about the best songs on BWS and Willennium. It's All Good, Potnas, So Fresh, Pump Me Up, etc were the best trax on the album....Jeff only brings those albums 2 higher levels.
18. I havn't even gotten the track on CD yet...i'm crazy busy. I need 2 go out and get more blank CDs in the 1st place. What i wanna do is properly clean all my vinyl and put it all on CD once and for all, non-album trax, back 2 back, and in order. This is the summer 4 it 2 happen. From there i might make a snippet CD featuring 40 seconds to and minute of each b-side, remix, instrumental, etc and send it 2 Tim just so he can steam them once in awhile so everyone can get a taste of 'em.
