Will Smith is coming to St. Louis, Nov. 19 Exclusive to the Post-Dispatch: Will Smith, the most popular movie star in the world, will be in St. Louis on Wednesday, Nov. 19. Smith will headline a red-carpet event at the AMC Creve Coeur 12 cinema for the local premier of his new movie “Seven Pounds,” which opens nationwide Dec. 19. The event next Wednesday begins at 5:30 p.m.. Fans attending the free event are encouraged to donate food items, which will benefit the St. Louis Area Foodbank and Urban League in partnership with the St. Louis Rams. Donors will get a chance to win a ticket for the movie screening, which begins at 7:00 p.m. Smith, 40, is the rapper-turned-actor who has starred in such hits as “Independence Day” and “Men in Black.” Twice he has been nominated for an Academy Award as best actor, for “Ali” in 2001 and “The Pursuit of Happyness” in 2006. In “Seven Pounds,” Smith plays a troubled IRS agent who is compelled to help seven strangers. The project has been shrouded in mystery, but it was directed by Gabriele Muccino, who made “The Pursuit of Happyness,” so it’s likely to be a heart-tugger. The Creve Coeur cinema is at 10465 Olive Street Road, just west of Lindbergh Boulevard. Expect to see Rams players and other local luminaries, gathered around the fountain in the parking lot. This is big, St. Louis, so get there early. http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/joes-movi...t-louis-nov-19/

Columbia taps Chris Murphy to write script Columbia Pictures is back in the dojo with a new version of the 1984 hit "The Karate Kid," which has been refashioned as a star vehicle for Jaden Smith. The film will be produced by Jerry Weintraub (who launched the original franchise) and Overbrook Entertainment's James Lassiter, Will Smith and Ken Stovitz. Will Smith, who is the 10-year-old actor's father, co-starred alongside Jaden in his feature debut, "The Pursuit of Happyness," which Overbrook and Escape Artists produced for Columbia. The script is being written by Chris Murphy, and the film will shoot next year in Beijing and other cities. While the new film will be set in that exotic locale, it will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor. China Film Group Corp. will co-produce in China. The younger Smith, who next stars in "The Day the Earth Stood Still," is a martial arts practitioner. Columbia presidents Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach said they had been trying to find a way to bring back the series, which began with three films that featured Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. A subsequent film launched the career of Hilary Swank. http://www.variety.com/article/VR111799561...yid=13&cs=1

Come see "Seven Pounds" and meet Will Smith next week With most red-carpet premieres, ordinary people who don't have the right connections are usually not allowed anywhere near the theater. But when Will Smith and Rosario Dawson come to Miami next Monday, Nov. 17, for the red-carpet premiere of their new film Seven Pounds, everyone is invited. You don't even have to buy a ticket for the event, which will benefit the Marlins Community Foundation charity. All you have to do is bring any kind of canned or dried food item to donate - and, of course, be willing to line up early enough to actually snag a seat. What's more, the first seven people in line who bring seven pounds or more of food will get some one-on-one personal face time with Smith and Dawson before the show. Trey’s mom/Will’s ex-wife Sheree was there (in the black on the left). And so was Jada’s mom/Trey’s grandma (in the blue top). Fine blended family fun. http://theybf.com/index.php/2008/11/09/wee...will-smith-fam/

With so many celebrity stars cluttering the sky, it can be hard to pick just a few as favorites, but Parade and Entertainment Tonight have worked together to whittle the list down to ten, after asking fans to choose their top entertainers. Will Smith, who graces the cover of Parade's Nov. 9 issue, tops the list in the #1 slot, as voted by fans. He and the others on the lineup will also be featured in an ET weekend special, airing on both Nov. 15 and 16. “I think a large part of why I’ve been successful is that I have, essentially, a white-collar career with a blue-collar mentality,” he says. “I can never really relax. I’m always waiting to see what’s next. It’s always, ‘OK, something different is gonna happen here.’ ” Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and George Clooney all make appearances within the top 10 along with box-office king Will. Will Smith Wears His Serious Game Face Mon, 11/03/2008 Will Smith put on his cheering hat to hit the stands for his son Trey's high school football game in Agoura Hills on Friday. Looks like he wasn't feeling festive enough to don a costume, but maybe he took his kids out trick-or-treating after the game. Lately Will has been putting in plenty of doting dad time before he starts promoting Seven Pounds, but we all know that tomorrow he'll take time out from being an actor and family man to hit the voting booth with the rest of us. ACTRESS PINKETT SMITH GIVES UP ON GYM Fighting fit actress JADA PINKETT SMITH has put a halt to her rigorous exercise regime - because her extreme workouts are taking a toll on her ageing joints. The Matrix star, 37, admits she's had to stop pumping iron and take a more relaxing approach to ease her aches and pains. She says, "Right now I just do yoga maybe three times a week. As I've gotten older the gym's just not good on my joints anymore. I do a lot of activities outside. I do a lot of hiking, I love to run a little bit, I'm surfing now... I've got to keep up with my kids." But the actress, who is married to actor Will Smith, insists her action-star husband keeps her fit as well. She adds, "At home, with my husband - we like to wrestle a little bit." Source: http://www.pr-inside.com/achy-actress-pink...-up-r892522.htm
