Will Smith: I want to be soldier for peace

Hollywood star visits Yitzhak Rabin Center, says former PM's story inspired him

Ynetnews

Man in black in holy land: Hollywood actor Will Smith arrived in Israel for a speedy 48-hours visit accompanied by his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. The visit was organized by the Israeli Consul General in Los Angeles, Ehud Danoch.

Upon his arrival in the country, Smith requested a meeting with former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's daughter, Dalia Rabin, after hearing so much about her father.

The couple visited the Yitzhak Rabin Center in Tel Aviv, and watched a movie depicting Rabin's life and leadership. Both Jada and Will were moved by the film, which even caused Jada to shed a tear.

At the end of the screening, Smith stated: "I am inspired beyond my ability to articulate… and now I know what and who I want to be… a soldier for peace." Dalia Rabin granted the couple two copies of the Noble Peace Prize medal that was awarded to Yitzhak Rabin.

Smith, on his part, expressed interest in attending the event to mark the opening of the Center's museum later this year, and pledged to make a donation to the institute.

After the visit to the Rabin Center, the couple dined at the Rafael restaurant in Tel Aviv with American Ambassador to Israel Richard Jones and his wife, Consul General Danoch, Dalia Rabin, Knesset Member Silvan Shalom and his wife, media advisor Moshe Debby, who was behind the gathering, and Yitzha Rabin's granddaughter Noa Ben Artzi with her spouse.

During the meal, which lasted about four hours, Smith said that he and his wife were not afraid to come to Israel and noted terror exists all around the world.

Will has quickly come the closest thing to a "hero" that I have as far as celebs go with his inspirational speeches and stuff.

I have the audio from him on Angie Martinez show promoting Hitch if anyone is interested. He has some deep stuff there, and that's where he was joking that he was gonna suckerpunch someone on the news to get on the Hot97 playlist. lol

Thanks for this, those haters that think that Will's a sellout celebrity who doesn't give back needs to read this...

Interesting to read! FP is doing a good thing! A true hero and legend!

I'm very interested in the whole middle-east conflict and Rabin was one of few Israeli leaders I liked, so it's nice hearing Will respects leaders that should be respected!
